    Hey... You friendly?

hmm... I think it's just chance. Personally I would prefer to help, it never crosses my mind to kill anyone. I don't get pleasure from it, I actually get more enjoyment if I have gathered something and get to give it to someone else, even if it's just to 'show off' what I have. And I have met more friendlies than foes so far, in my limited experience. I think if you have defensive attitude, and the first thing anyone will get is a bullet in the face from you... well think about that for a sec. You have just joined the club! It's like in racing games, it you meet a 'crasher' and your response is to retaliate, well guess what? You just became another crasher.

    do I have any chance?

I could care less whether you use a mic or type.. it's just a game. I presume if someone isn't talking, they don't want to, it doesn't hurt my feelings or ruin my world. I have always felt that way in gaming including communication games like racing. It's entertainment, some folks take it way too far... and some in game mic folks talk WAY TOO much, I don't care about your life story right now buddy. Anyway, good luck Hope to see ya in game

    Medical equipment in the North

There is a medical clinic in Krasno that seems to always have everything I need. I usually trek there to find pristine items. The other day, on my server, Krasno had a loot-splosion... in the entire town. It was... crazy!

    Suicidal Loot

I was beautifully looted and suited as a medic pristine reds top to bottom, 2 first aid kits, a pistol, and any necc survival odds and ends. Ready to RP the heck outta dayz I stupidly decided to log off on a tower. Logged on next day, all is well. There was a new canteen (or did I not see it last time) on the top. I decided to go back up to get it. I tried to carry it in my hand going down as I was fully encumbered. Splat. (don't carry items and climb?) That was yesterday, and I am still a little gutted.

    Whats your gear run

Not knowing the map yet, I always go east to north keeping the coast in view, but far enough on the hill to be discreet. I keep moving until I am lined straight north, at that point I know that I will move directly west to a road that will hit Dobro, and north to Krasno. I like gearing at Krasno, and I can get to severo from there by shooting straight west past black mountain. I also have learned a few spots I'll keep to myself along the way! I'd say learn one path and stick to it, and slowly learn the surroundings, and continue to increase the travel radius. Thank goodness for apples.

    Sad Bambi is sad.

The 1st guy I ever met in DayZ, walked up inside the building I was looting. He was not very geared. Asked if I was friendly, I said "yeah, how are you doing"? He asked you friendly, me "yeah man" He stepped up to me, and one-punch knocked me out. I soon realized my mic was off LOL noob. I still thought it was wrong... he came into 'my' building! From there on, I always back straight away from everyone. If I'm unsure, I like to drop a food item and see how they respond. I can kinda gauge maturity level from what they say.

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

As it is, it is boring (to me) in exp currently. There are apples and berries. So I agree, add more options, make me go to special risky locations, add more variables such as sickness, or maybe I need salt to preserve meats for the road, I always thought it weird that we're carrying raw meat around... I like that there aren't working wells in stable, so I need canteens + soon water purification. -These are things that I hope to look forward to as the game matures. I want engagement, this is just survival, it is a GAME of survival. It's not quite simulation else we would have to pee and crap, so I still appreciate being in the middle to some degree, which means it can still be of gaming type entertainment, and not TOO serious. And lighten up guys.

He was quoting me, but I want to be clear that you aren't responding for me. Because I am not a part of your "too many" I can speak for myself just fine. What you have said does not echo my sentiments.

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

He's referring to my comment, on experimental branch, where in some cases there is absolutely NO processed food whatsoever. In my own experience, standing under trees and next to bushes for hours on end, isn't really that entertaining, whilst having options for hunting would deepen the experience. To me, no matter what, it has to be fun, that's where I draw the line on realism.

This game and trust go good together

I actually don't really mind that sort of role play, as long as it is during a game session interaction. I know that as long as my new 'buddy' is with me, anything can happen. If we log off alive, very cool. If he turns at the end of session, well darn it.. DayZ. But to come on the next day, like to actually attempt to schedule a meetup to play again. Or to meet again in game by chance several days later, resume the 'friendship' and then commit the backstab. That is a little bit overkill, it's just trying way too hard. I know it's fine for some folks, but personally I don't get along with that kind of person in or out of game.

    Dayz actually becoming DayZ

I actually wouldn't mind playing as a Zombie, if they had special loot items, perks and abilities. Would make for great stealth and voyeur play. Would be fun to trick people. But I'm against the grain when it comes to them in current game. I like them as are, no more no less, same damage, just a proper fixed version of the same is all I want. There are too many Zombie games out there, imho, I tire of button mashing zombies endlessly from my experience in DR3. I couldn't stop to think for a sec, with literally hundreds of them everywhere. It's like doing the same thing over and over and nothing else... that's not really fun to me, even if you can use a hot dog bun to kill them.

This game and trust go good together

I find quite a few guys who want to help and move along. But yeah, the people that befriend you, talk, laugh, walk, seem cool, then turn on you later.... that's weird stuff, like something outside of gaming, disturbing sort of person. Trust factor is great in a game (win some lose some), but when you're building up over days to set someone up for a kill? hrmmm dunno about that... weirdos.

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

^^ Thanks guys, that is helpful :) Along the lines of what I had presumed. I think I will try one day to fill completely up (mountain pack) with apples and walk around looking for hungry folks.

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

I still have not figured out the risk ratio: standing picking apples and increasing hunger, fingers crossed.. or just moving to next location, risk starvation and death Right now I would rather die under an apple tree trying, than dying in the middle of a field right before I get to a town (get food or die trying :D) At least someone sees me and knew I tried!

Medic here. Everyone is starving to death

The problem is that on exp, the items you need to support a "hermit" (non processed food) lifestyle are too hard to find, so once again we're left with great idea, but I CAN'T find the items to enjoy the idea. I understand that things wouldn't be abundant IRL, but how many hours shall I play before I find a match? Where will that line be drawn? I can't wait to see how this works when it works, because it does make for a much deeper game. (or later mod at least)

    Diseases

I probably don't like to get that literal in games, but I would like to be able to have to treat food and water, take certain pills for "basic" conditions and status' (I actually already do a lot of stuff just for my own RP). As always with these things it all depends on how they decide to spawn/disperse this stuff. Anything is a great idea until you can't find it forever and die. Actually the entire game depends on those fine balances imo... like I wouldn't want to get sick every playthru. We'll see where the actual 'difficulty' lies when the loot is proper.

    I found a RangeFinder!

Yeah I can't quite remember where, but I only go to boring places, and even I found one :P Probably in a police house. But I had no use for it so I just left it.
  18. TheHermit (DayZ)

    Tents

Not found one, and I have looked in the tall apts. Probably the one item I would like to try out the most.
  19. I've seen it on streams quite a few times. In a weird kinda way (cuz I know it breaks the game, but) it really is cool for a noob such as myself to get to see all the various types of loot in one place. NWAF is ridiculous with this bug sometimes. I have not come across it in game myself, I would say actually the opposite lol

Killed by teleport hacker instantly after finished spawning!

Hmm.. I was wondering about this. So this is a thing? Happened to me once in Severo on s 3 person server. Someone right by me as I logged in. No big deal, I just quietly logged out (though I hate to do that, it was too much coincidence. Saturday, exp server, fairly full. Logged in to a guy hacking (edit: axing) me as my screen initialized. Now THAT made me mad. I had a ghille darn it :) He stole my ghille! It was inside of a backpack, so he must've felt SO good when he started looting me. Congrats dude, you know who you are.

    I suck at killing zombies

I have gotten up to a 85% no damage rate with the zombies, the 15% coming from some wall or proximity glitch. My issue is getting rid of them as fresh spawn. I've seen others run thru buildings and hop over fences and get rid of them. I find that difficult to do myself, so far.

    Water and food

I think his point is valid, a bottle of water and rice would enable people to move inland easier. It is still a game and should be entertaining. I am new and I have found that berry trees can save your life. After enough trial and error, I have learned to walk directly inland, stop at berry bushes or apple trees and spam them until my pockets are full. Admittedly I am not on full servers, I am developing my strategies and map directions to avoid people on new spawn.

    Best routes

I stay between Severo and Krasno, find mosins in piano homes, handguns in wood cabins, ammo in larger homes and police stations. I really have not had a problem with that yet, but I do think the variety of weaponry is limited by being a 'one town guy'. Severo seems to have a ton of Zombies, like triple and quadruple teaming families coming after ya LOL
  24. TheHermit (DayZ)

I'm old and I suck at it so I play on empty servers.

I logged onto a 2 person server Saturday morning. In the top floor of the apartments in Severo. My orientation was as I left it, mosin pointing towards window looking west direction to the street below. The first thing I saw (after the game does it's typical graphics initialization) was a zombie and a player walking towards my building. What are the chances of this? Unsure of this, I simply logged out. There is no way that was a coincidence. +38, also prefer playing with mature folks BTW.
  25. That is a little too close too the hot spots that I'd like to avoid at the moment, Novod and Svetlo. I will probably make the journey thru all northern towns up towards Sinistok. And I will probably avoid Fire Stations with this very well looted character LOL. I do want to check out the new base above Severo though.. if we're talking about building changes/adds. I saw the cave on a stream.
