    Classifying Bandits

Gear is easy, but I do hate when I get decked out in a green hoodie and matching cargo, matching backpack, matching hat, green willies.... or full pristine medic, red drybag, etc. I hate having to get groomed up again, and I hate to die without people seeing how damn good I look first. That's one reason to hate KOS... I wanted to walk the catwalk thru Berezino, and of course sniper and pet Bambi working together to pit me before I got to the edge of town >:(

Can someone explain how loot spawn/respawn works?

^ They were definitely not just at bases, I can tell you that! I had an entire town to myself for a long time in a private hive, everyone was off PVP at the base, and I was in town like a 11 year old at the mall on XMas Eve

    Cities

Oh that would be vicious! Rooftops everywhere, alleys, infinite windows to camp by. Rolling thru a big city would be asking for it! I don't know if it would segregate the game too much.

    Shot while drinking water

I did laugh a little. You just got a little annoyed. He was a little green, maybe. I have been there in other games. It's ok to be new, but pretend to know what you're talking about!! It's like at work where a new employee got hired and then tries to pretend they know what I know.... umm dude. I can tell that you're full of it LOL At least you tried to share a moment. I agree you may have took a deep breath and dealt with it differently, like a torture lesson..

Know your role, and stick to your words.

Everyone kinda groups all kids together and that's also not fair. I have seen nice kids and dumb adults! shout out to the guys who had to play at arcades! We were all kids but we learned how to communicate with other human beings in real life, where consequence (like getting punched in the face) happens. But maybe we are getting too political here. I don't think there is much the game can do... a large problem with many games is that you have to draw the line between alienating a % of the audience, which can grow into a negative rep overall. They do not want to limit the game, especially if it's going for consoles as well. If you play sim racing games, you know what I'm talking about.

DayZ has become empty and boring

Not sure why everyone is so snarky around here. Plenty of folks, including big (daily play) streamers on Twitch (who know and talk to the devs) have the exact same argument.

Adams You have to admit that is pretty bad. But yeah, everyone has different ideas on how to entertain themselves, or what makes them feel better about themselves. It may be a game, but the 'first impressions' rule still applies for me, whether that be a video game, or someone doing underhanded stuff under the table at a card game, or making a racial/homophobic slur during a basketball game. I don't find it interesting, but it would be boring indeed if everyone were perfect studious lads sitting in a circle "kumbaya" at the fire LOL

    Playing Cards

This is the best idea I have read so far! Poker in the woods. I am so down with this!

A few thoughts to mull over: incentives/skills/kos

Relax buddy, this is the suggestions area. Suggestions for the future. Calling ideas stupid? Tone it down. And please watch the insults on my intelligence as well as the F bomb.

    Different Ideas to Limit KOS

I actually like the idea, in the sense that a survivor, once adequately geared, doesn't need to be running around town to town. They could find a circle in the woods somewhere, hopefully (in future) be able to scavenge, forage and craft tools off the land in their near vicinity. So I may be penalized if I'm uselessly hoarding and running around, but if my goal is to set a base and fire, I need to be direct in my travels. If we could find more items from nature to use for crafting, maybe crafting tents from the land (tree branches) maybe hermit communities could develop. People that live on the outskirts. People who avoid stepping in to the gritty city. Of course there is no guarantee that hermits are nicer, but I would take my chances that I have something that person needs in order to live in the woods LOL Any KOSer that took the effort to walk way inland to find people in the woods off guard, well imo that person deserves the kill and gear!

I have watched some streams and have seen a few "getting carried away" moments as well. Just people, not even always young sounding, going way too far with the insults, and just being outright evil beyond the means of playing a video game. I've seen guys meet girls in game (whether real or just avatar) and heard some things being said that make me change game streams. In a sense, an open world game with no boundaries is a perfect place for a disturbed, socially inept person to get it all out of their system. I'd prefer they do it in a game though. Perhaps it is a good thing that they have a release. That said, again I watch a ton of streams, I watch more than I play. I don't know what it is about streamers, but their random interactions seem to end positive more often than not. Of course these are streamers that loot inland and avoid the 'hood. When on the coast, or especially bases, anything goes. I don't think it's all that bad overall, but I wish there were some incentive for 'nice' guys as well.

The rush of your first moments in Chernarus

I still get a little jittery at night when it's raining. The random sounds really keep me alert. First time in dark reminded me of the old Silent Hill.

    some ideas for hunting

I love these kind of in depth ideas, but I would rather see them on a mod or a complete separate focused game based on pure wilderness survival. As long as we have zombies, military bases, food and guns/ammo everywhere, all of the survival stuff becomes mere personal RP and pretense, if you choose to play that way... With the imitations of this game, stuff like Forest, etc... I think we are heading in the direction to have some excellent spin-offs and real simulation survival. I mean I would love to happen to find groups of people walking around seriously trying to stay alive, with very detailed options and real necessity involved. I want the feeling that I am actually dying, literally on my knees looking for bugs if I have to LOL

A few thoughts to mull over: incentives/skills/kos

If you can develop a contrary disadvantage if would be cool Ex. you gain weapon accuracy, you lose melee accuracy. Start a lot of fires, become more susceptible to catching a cold without fire. Become an experienced hunter. Become the hunted. Either by Zombies, or (hopefully in future) by animals. There should always be a trade off to keep any one player from becoming 'overpowered', and also provide a deliberated sacrifice or compromise for the player.

It keeps it unpredictable, and there is something entertaining about it. Yesterday I met a friend, we traded a few items, had a small loot run, we wanted to find him some more ammo. I walked him up to a weapon, I remembered seeing. Soon as he loaded it and handled it, from there on, my mind kept going back and forth... "is this dude going to double cross me?" I had to keep moving behind walls and stuff, and the conversations became quite awkward. I think we were trying to feel each other out. It was an interesting 'real life' kinda moment.

    PVE Servers

Actually PVP is quite rare in Dayz in my experience, you have to go find it, usually forcing it. Anyway, there should be room for various gameplay for everyone. OP... PVE? Just play in a low pop server. That's how I started, it was a great experience being able to 'test' the crafting and uninterrupted foraging and hunting. I also agree with private shards, chances that folks don't want to be forever known by the 'club' as a bandit, will at least try conversation first. Especially private servers that recommends at least an attempt at RP.

    Zombie immunity upon spawning

In no way is it acceptable to be killed in a game by AI while you are logging in/game initializing in my opinion. +1 OP. It's like playing Madden and the defense gets to jump the line before you hike the ball.

Quick Suggestion - Slightly more realistic clothes! Yay!

It's not critical, but it is one of those things that after a few years... we will look at 2014 DayZ and not believe how clunky and undetailed the alpha was. The little things do matter. I was just thinking this yesterday watching a stream of a guy having a drink from a pond. Like, wow this is going to look so bad in 2017.

    poisioning items

The chance for this to be abused just isn't worth it. I don't see a valid tradeoff in entertainment value. It's a nice idea, perhaps as a serious role play device, but I can only see folks spending all day poisoning every item they see in game. In a survival scenario, I'm trying to figure if I would spend my time poisoning limited food resources, would I spend time trying to kill people that I have not come across. Why? to protect my territory? If we are role playing terrorists in game, well I guess... but it just isn't something I think I'll laugh about later "oh hahaha remember the time I ate that apple and died all alone in Dobro oh LOLOL"
  21. TheHermit (DayZ)

But it's alpha...A tale of magic and wonder (frustration)

The only weapon disappearance that I am aware of and can duplicate is when I'm trying to hold an additional weapon in my hand, and then want to switch to a different hand activity like have a drink or bandage. So I'd only offer -don't load the gun that you will put in your hands!- if you want to save that ammo :P Honestly, I just RP that type of loss in. If I were trying to hold something in my only free hand while my brain was focused on running 30 miles to find food and water, I would probably eventually lose focus on my secondary weapon.
  22. TheHermit (DayZ)

    Hey... You friendly?

The other day I was picking apples on the coast and this guy snuck up on me and started to axe me out. I gathered my bearings and ran off a bit to equip my baton (people sleep on the batons, screw that I save my battery and use the batons, they are effective and fun!).. anyway, I could have retaliated, but instead I played the naïve card "HEY man! Why u punching me??" Whats up with that man lol?", and just ran around in circles with my weapon. It calmed him down, he explained (probably lied) that he was scared, didn't mean it, accident, etc... We ended up chatting and laughing about it, I dropped him a few apples, and we went on our way minding our business. ... To some degree it is uncertainly, fear, and simple boredom. There is time and effort to gearing up, and to lose it in 5 seconds.... I can see how it is a drain on a lot of people, it is understandable.
  23. TheHermit (DayZ)

    Hey... You friendly?

I hear ya. Like I said, I have not that many hours under my belt to be sure, it's been so far so good. I have recently moved to a private shard so I'm not sure I'll ever get to experience the 'real world' so much. I can only compare to racing games where brake checking, ramming crashers are an epidemic. However, we are at least able to drive better, avoid and embarrass those guys. When people try to get revenge, it ends up being a sloppy mess of everyone crashing everyone else and there are no winners. If we ignore the crashers, they usually go away. In DayZ, there is no way to one up someone if they're taking a quick cheap shot, sending you back to the coast. It would be nice if guns had surprise misfires at times, so a KOS could stand to lose sometimes. I think there should be more players that actively try to be friendly. It would raise overall trust levels in the game, and help to negate the impression that every person in game is to be avoided. As long as everyone has a 'shoot first, trust no one' mentality, you are only helping to create more fear, uncertainty and less player interaction. I guess, sometimes, perhaps take the lumps, try to be the bigger man, and maybe you might help restore trust out there. It probably would work that way in real life.

Alcohol: Beer, Wine and Spirits. And craftable Distilleries.

sustained alcoholism and dependency could also be a feature here. Lets say that you would need to drink twice the amount of fresh water or fast run a certain distance to rid the dependency. Or just drink more and embrace the dependency, and accept the consequences. Fully drunk status = increased zombie agro/but much less zombie contact - could be an incentive to balance the drawbacks of being a drunk if the impairments are impactful enough. And also be a nice PVP moment for those in the area.

    Classifying Bandits

I like this kinda RP banditry. It would be my pleasure to be robbed by someone like you that at least tries to make it a memorable experience. I think .... maybe I may have a chance to tell a few jokes, or persuade you to leave me with a melee weapon, or anything, just try to negotiate something. You are the kinda guy I like to see in games! I have seen streams where the person being bandited, the banditee if you will, is having more fun being tortured than the bandit, and that is fun to watch.
