I think I prefer sticking to bandages, just to increase their importance rather than making everything suitable for fixing everything or at least avoiding that slippery slope. But can never have enough fashion statements! I think having those kinda options set up the potential for trading.. the more item types, the less abundant, the more desired.

physics of objects are totally broken atm - why not just disable it for the time being
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
I have to trust that they meet/discuss/decide and have reasons for the decisions that are made that we simply aren't privy to. Someone else's job always seems easier from the outside. I get it all the time "why don't you do it this way, why did he not do this, if I were you I would do it this way, etc etc" Unless you are working in/on it, you really don't know the factors leading into decisions, but it's probably safe to give the benefit of doubt and presume things aren't done to deliberately annoy you. Things are probably being compromised and sacrificed for the sake of research and future planning. -
I love that. Having to find a book for a specific recipe that gains you a unique advantage. And you need that book in order to activate that particular combination of food items to work properly. With all the seeds around, it would be nice to see them have s more special use... it seems that they aren't popular with respect to the amount of them spawning around. But if I knew that collecting them would be rewarding if I found a special book... things like this add depth without forcing me into that particular gameplay. It's like having a passive side goal, and would lessen the troll-y feeling of certain overspawn of some items.

I finally had my first "sick" for the first time. Character is very healthy, eats canned foods and rice. Sodas and water. I have no idea how I got sick, but I took a few swigs of bottle water, tried morphine and painkillers for the heck of it. Ate few bites of pristine food over the course of an hour while running to and around the next town, and it suddenly went back to bright green energized, hydrated and healthy. Was fun. B)

Anyone else playing as a hoarder currently?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
I'm not quite hoarding but I have this kinda thing with water bottles. And I like to stuff bomber jackets into each other's pockets for no reason. If I see a bomber jacket, I must have it. I need all of them. -
Accessibility, Userfriendliness and Quality of Life
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to flexy's topic in Suggestions
As much as I have something against needing to Google for the answers to life, I have to admit, finding things out from the forum and streams, has really added to the experience. I don't follow the game close enough to know that I could have been using a sharpened stick or make a stone knife all that time. Nor would I have figured out that if I searched stones, I would be able to even make a knife. But man it was very cool when I happened to find out! It's like learning from other survivors. That's how it would work anyways. You hear thru the grapevine, and you're like "DAMN!! REALLY?" And then the next round of exploration becomes that much more an adventure. There are a lot of things that I do not know. And I will not search those things out. Somehow I'll hear about it later somewhere in some random discussion. It's much more of a long term experience that way. -
What is your play style and goals?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
Honestly... being that I only have had the game for 5-6 months, I hang out on Krasno and the surrounding vicinities. I have some hiding places along the path, but I rarely see anyone round there. I feel like it's my neighborhood, and for what I do, which is really just try to constantly improve the gear I have, I find everything I need. Thinking about taking a walk north to Chernya Polana, as I hear I may be able to find higher tier items there, it seems like a short walk. I probably need to reset and find another nice area to call a second home so I don't get too stuck in my ways, and not learn other places. -
more diversity in citys and houses with simple tricks
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to jgbtl292's topic in Suggestions
I like the OPs ideas... but I agree that this is not something that they should focus on at this stage in development. But the idea of a large shopping mall is amazing. Especially if someday they will be able to categorize loot types and specify particular destinations for those items. Like shoe stores if you need boots, etc. Just so that more diversity doesn't mean randomizing colors, but actually developing functioning neighborhoods, and providing us specific reasons to visit a place. -
Get rid of inventory "tetris", its busy work and limiting.
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to franzuu's topic in Suggestions
DayZs is crude, but I like it the way it is. Some of these things are stuff I see as 'the charm of the game'. But I really do not want to have to calculate to that degree in game, I would rather grab my fav pack and know how many slots there are. Simple and efficient. Not interested in making a meta game out of inventory and maths. I do like that kind of system on ES games however. -
What do you think about realism in DayZ?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
I think that list is just alluding to a more detailed game. You can have less detail and still be authentic. Of course detail AND realism is a slippery slope that never ends. It always goes back to Space Bar + breathe. I think they are doing a good job with the balance, although there are some things that nag me. Like using brass knuckles to open a can, or a FireAx. Or carrying raw meat. I would prefer to make can openers a bit easier and do away with all melee being able to open cans. Or introducing salt or ice as a way to preserve. OTOH, I would not want the realism of limiting what I can actually carry. I still want to carry my campfire lol At the end of the day, these are the decisions where you just respect the developers intent and understand that its a game, and it has to be a limited interpretation of life in order to be playable and enjoyable. -
Think I found worst person to play Dayz
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
I have no cares to give at all, if someone doesn't talk to me in game. LOL, seriously? Catch feelings because someone did not have or use a mic? I'm not likely to kill anyways, but certainly not for that reason. I'm a little salty as I did not have a mic either when I started, and I am aware of how many people are hurt because someone didn't acknowledge their presence in the game. LOL tough guys -

What do you think about realism in DayZ?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
I would love to see more risk for those who organize their bags on the run. Get rid of it. Force us to have to stop and hide, take the bag off, and do your thing that way. If you get shot, you get shot. I have watched people play and complain about realism while they are sorting ammo and color organizing their inventory, while running. And if we can fill a bottle with rain, then certainly we should be able to fill empty cans, or even our hands. The thing is... realism works both ways, I guess. it can make things more difficult, or perhaps way too easy. it would be "realistic" to be able to pull a damn apple off the tree, if I can see them there. -
Average Lone Wolf Wouldnt Survive
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to pale1776's topic in General Discussion
I don't care what happens in real life. This is a game, and for my needs, it needs to be entertainment. I have no problem with the ultra simulation genre though, there are people that do enjoy it. But this game is not really that though, it is still a loot & shoot, or hide & thrive video game. So, I come home from a long day at my real life job, looking to unwind for an hour on DayZ, maybe run across Severo. Right now, the game is doing a good job of entertaining me. There are some things that are too easy, I agree... but please keep it in the realm of possibility for single players. Now Epoch, otoh... that is becoming not fun at all for the lone wolf lol. -
Yeah. I could even go for a Forest kind of thing, like walking back and forth gathering logs. I am down for the work it would take to make it happen. The balancing risk would be that one could look for a clearing in the forest and know that someone had been around. So it means I might have to go further and pick a distant spot for gathering. I am okay with that.

These things are supposed to happen in Cheno! You need to be up the hill in the woods doing intel before going near there! That's like strolling thru South Central... you don't! you go the side way or just walk around LOL
-
I am convinced that many many people want to be friendly if you give them a chance or show a little tact. Great stream last night, about 15 folks all in Cherno sponsoring boxing matches between fresh spawns. None of it would have happened if everyone KOS. They want to shoot at first, but a little humor or RP gets the guns down. Hilarious night, one of the best I've ever seen. And confirmed to me that most folks are just shooting/waving guns because they're scared. Just like IRL.

Can someone explain how loot spawn/respawn works?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to shokaloop's topic in General Discussion
Totally agree, it kinda organizes the piles of mess and exposes everything. But there is actually something I like about this risk of hanging around these explosions, it's kinda like robbing a store and trying to get in and out, I know that sounds criminal and horrible, but if you hadn't found a can of food in a few hours and you stumble across this sort of thing? It's like "damn should I even stop to eat? how much food should I take?" there are so many quick decisions, and you are always worried someone else is there, or on their way. I hope they learn something from these glitches and implement something to mimic that feeling, even if it's like a store in game at random locations, meant to be found and looted. -
I agree with your bolded part. An hour or two is far too easy imo. I watch a few survival shows and it can take days to weeks to get to the point where you can locate safe areas and forage enough to call yourself comfortably living. I like the idea, though. I still like the idea that there will be several camps out in the woods, and when you need stuff, you can run over and borrow things from fellow hermits. And work together to defend the area from bandits.

haha... It is always a little weird finding people in the forest. Just when you thought it was safe to get off the coast :D
-
It keeps the bandits away though ;)

Can someone explain how loot spawn/respawn works?
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to shokaloop's topic in General Discussion
It is this weird feeling man. I get a little anxiety, trying to move quickly but trying to be thorough making sure I get the best of what's available. Like which items are here, which ammo is available... a lot of back and forth, but trying to hurry UP! The worse, was that the building I was in had an improvised sack filled up with gear, no body around, like 'wth happened here' LOL Which led to an idea, which was to stuff the loose items into the bags and look thru everything that way. If someone came in, they wouldn't know exactly right away. But really curious to see how spawning will work going forward, for me it is the basis of the gam. -
A small christmas gift: 20 Survival tips
TheHermit (DayZ) replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Excellent list, I just picked up some tips there. :beans: -
Cattle Prod and Baton... to me this are ace melee to use a fresh spawn. They have saved my life and enabled me to move inland, and get fully geared up. And, it may take all the personal RP power that I have, but spending an hour picking apples really turns out to be my go-to method, if I am serious about surviving in peace. Once you get into a town and see all that sweet sweet food, it was all worth it. Be sure to keep an apple on you for luck.
