Shrubs, before reading this episode of your adventures in Cherno, I never looked at books. I would get angry when there were nothing but books in a place. But last night I found myself STOPPING to at least look at the title of books. Not to read them, but to find a pristine copy of Alice in Wonderland just to have on me in case I run into you. At one point I had zombies on my tail but I still stopped to check a book out to see. Is that scary or what LOL!!!!!

Yes, please do elaborate. Is it serverside CPU strain or something? Or the player's computer capabilities?

At first I thought a pack of a-holes were running like idiots towards the NWAF where I was headed. But then I realized ... LOL!!!!! Poor bastard deer. I was gonna run down there and save it but figured nah.

Every single person in this thread is the kind of player I wish I could meet in the game lol.

Oh that's interesting. I have an SSD but I still save games onto traditional HDDs. Still, i think the bottleneck would be in the CPU (or GPU) rather than the storage.

Yup!!! Have that happen to me (now that I think about it) more so recently. But it wasn't triggerred by anything apparent. Just all of a sudden the scenery is spinning LOL. I had it happen to me one time while I was on a roof!! With good gear!!! I was thinking oh man if I fall off this roof from lag, I'm gonna be SO pissed lol. Luckily I didn't. (I did get shot about 5 min later though lol)

I'm currently running on a EVGA GTX 570 1280MB single card with an Intel i7 920 (D0) o/c'ed to 3.9. Although I can run the game in medium settings, I really need to crank everything down to have smooth gameplay. Anyone running this on SLI'ed 570s? Does the game run on SLI / Crossfire?

Ok so I've got my camo painted Mosin, scope, and stabilizer, enough nato rounds to last till Christmas and tons of food and water. What to do in Cherno?? Oh the KOS temptation ... revenge for ALL those times!!! The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak ... off to a high ground I go LOL. Very loooonnggg minutes pass by and nothing not a soul in site in Elektro. I'm popping errant zeds just to pass the time. Heck at one point I was shooting the air just hoping a nearby someone's curiosity gets the better of them ... NOTHING. Then ... something. Lone dude with a sledgehammer and a backpack. I've got him pegged in my crosshairs and I ... do not shoot. WTF!!!! I just stalk him like some peeping tom creeper crouched up at the top floor inside the fire station tower. Soon enough, he goes out of site and I do not see him again. AARRRGGGHHH. I am not a good bandit. I get out of my stoop and go outside to question my manhood. Then POP POP POP. GUNFIRE!!! I run up the hill or, more to the point, the exact opposite direction of the gunfire. Once I'm up pretty high and have myself stuffed into a bush, pull out the Mosin and start doing some recon. Right in front of the church I see 3 dead bodies. One of them the semi bambi I saw earlier. And I see two other dudes scavenging their bodies. Oh I could feel my blood curdle. I know what's like way too often to be one of those bodies. I'm running so hot right now that I can barely aim straight even though I've caught my breath and I'm full prone ... POW POW let off two shots ... that miss BY A MILE!!!! The bandits take cover in separate buildings and they do not come out - at least not the way they came in. DAMNIT!!!! Time to bug out. I find a new roost and start scoping again ... nothing. Then RATTATATAT ... had to be a short range weapon from the sound of it but it was CLOSE. I get up and run to find a new roost and the two bandits are ON MY TAIL!!!!!!!!!!!! RATTATATAT wtf is that gun??? It's not hitting me but damn it's annoying. Then they get close enough to me to talk ... "Why are you running man?? If you're friendly don't run!!! Cmon [explicative]!!! I'm gonna [explicative] you!!!" WOW!!! For real guys??? I know it's just a game but shoot you sound like real thugs WTF LOL!!!! So I did what any villain fighter would do ... I RAN LIKE THE FRIGGIN WIND!!! I ran and I ran and I ran ... "STOP RUNNING FOOL I'M GONNA [EXPLICATIVE] YOU UP!!!!" I looked back to make sure I got a good look of the bandits but I could really only see one that was sporting one of those clown masks - how friggin quaint LOL. And finally, the taunting stopped. So I went and found a new roost and reconned some more. After several minutes ... I spot something. A guy with what appeared to be a short rifle searching about. A guy ...with a CLOWN MASK. I did not engage the enemy. I stalked the little [explicative] until he seemed to be backtracking. And I stalked him some more. Then he made his first mistake, he stopped. Maybe to drink? Maybe to eat? Either way, I had my breath, I had his ridiculous clown mask in my sites and I had him dialed in - KAPOW!!!! DIRECT HIT!!!! TANGO DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited a bit to see if he was still alive but no movement. But I wanted to make sure he could still hear me if he was still there so I made my way to his dead, foresaken body, stared him in the clown face and said "YA LIKE APPLES? HOW LIKE THEM APPLES, BITCH?" Dude was decked out unfortunately a lot of his weapons were damaged from my shot. He did have a Mosin kitted with camo paint and a crafted sheath, a short looking rifle with scope, tons of ammo ... and that stupid clown mask Oh I never thought I could acheive such a sense of vindication from a friggin video game LOL. I felt bad ass. I felt invincible. And I was absolutely giddy in the fact that I'm about to strip this bastard of all his belongings that he likely stole from the masses of innocents. I HAVE AVENGED YOU BAMBIS!!!! I AM ... BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At that point, it struck me like a ton of bricks ... THERE WERE TWO OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH SH*TTTTTTTTTT ..... BANG!!! "You're dead."

I do notice that the ping on the server list can change pretty dramatically quickly. Especially for some reason after you highlight it with your mouse (clicking once on it not twice). Generally, I try to join if its lower than 70. I also check my desync on the players list once I am in game. But really, I'm not sure this is giving me any less lag. I do notice that sometimes when I just join a server, controls feel very clunky. But then after 20 min or so, same number of players, same desync, things all of a sudden run very very smooth. It's odd.

Oh man this just happened to me yesterday except I was going DOWN the stairs from a fire station lol. I had to crawl to the outside and luckily there was a tree nearby. Just left to go to the bathroom and by the time I got back, I was near the tree lol.

I'd be mad about this but so far I've been far too noob to even see a single tent. I did come across something on the interwebs suggesting where many of them can be found though so hoping to join the cool kids ranks of tent people. Good to know about this Wed reset cos man I would've lost it had I stored tons of loot on Tues only to find them all gone the next day LOL.

Ooohhh good points. The life of a bandit hunter indeed is plagued with moral complexities. I will need to give this some thought. I'd always thought maybe I wait to see the bandits commit a horrible act before I get all Judge Dredd on them.

I'm still trying to get my arms arund this persistence concept. Scenario A) From what I understand, the basics of it is that if I have an axe, leave the game, come back to it, I'll still have the axe. Great very cool. Scenario B ) Now if I leave the axe somewhere, say in the jail cell under the bed in a police station at some town, leave the game, come back to it, I don't think I should see that axe under the bed because it is not a "storage" mechanism, right? Scenario C) As an side, if I don't leave the game, go to say the piano house next door, come back to the police station, I should see the axe still under the bed, right? Of course unless someone took it. Scenario D) Now if I use a tent, set it up somewhere up in the mountains, leave my axe in it, leave the game and come back, that axe should be there right? Scenario E) Now let's say I messed up and left the axe OUTSIDE of the tent but very near it, it would NOT be subject to persistence, right? Thanks for any clarification.

Yea jukaga, definitely learned my lesson. But more importantly, I think I found my DayZ calling!!!! I am going to be an AVENGER. Well, ideally, I'd like to be a PROTECTOR but my shot is so piss poor, I may likely be too late to save a bambi's life. But I can be a serious annoyance to those that took a bambi's life LOL.

When I first read that "blacky" reference it kinda irked me too but it's pretty clear that English is not Shrubs first language and he obviously means no offense by it. Still, good that you clarrified Shrubs cos it is a VERY sensitive topic stateside. Keep on truckin my friend and I really hope I run into you one of these dayz.

Wow pilgrim if I could give you more beans, I would!! Thanks for the great explanation. It answered a LOT of my questions. Here's one last one though ... if I set up a tent does it just disappear as soon as I log off? And then reappear assuming I'm logging back on to the same server? I can see how this persistent concept can seem straight forward on the surface but is really a rabbit hole.

Ok I think I see where I am confused ... * Gear that is in your invetory on your person such that you can equip it in your hand DOES remain on your person if you switch servers so long as they are all on the same public hive and have persistence enabled. * Gear that you leave somewhere say like in a tent out in the woods and is NOT in your personal inventory does NOT stay there if you switch servers. Sorry for being such a dolt about this but have I got this right now? If so then the big takeaway is make sure you are on a server you like when you plan to do some off-person storage. [edit] So theoretically, I could set up my storage / camp on a server I like. But I can continue to play on other persistant servers and just go back to that server whenever I need to access my storage / camp?

GAH!!!!! You know how long I sat by a pond filling a water bottle, purifying it, rinse, repeat???? And it took even longer cos I had some psycho maniac with a carbine firing off like it was 4th of july very near me trying to hit a zed ... I think he hit everything BUT the zed lol. Luckily he didn't see or hear me drinking but with all the racket, I'm sure I could've been playing a boom box at full blast and he wouldn't have heard me.

I'm sorry to beat this to death but to be absolutely clear ... persistence applies only to a specific server that has persistence on. Is that right? I'm particularly concerned with this because often times the server I really like to play on is packed. So I'll go to another server in the meantime. [edit] Sorry wait now I'm confused ... I definitely keep all my gear whenever I go from one server to another server. I just have yet to try storing things for long term use.

It affected my gameplay a LOT. I relied on those wells to save me room in my packs. Now I'm carrying a water bottle and as many purification tablets I can find. Of course I try to find sodas and cantines (except cantines take up a lot of room) but they can be harder to find now it seems. Point of clarification - do you need to purify *all* water? I know you can still drink the water but does it increase the chance of getting sick?
