I have never killed anyone with a gun. I did shoot a guy twice in the ass when he came into the vybor military barracks. I didn't kill him, I made him a splint and fixed his broken leg since I ruined his pants and funnily enough, his morphine injector that was in them. We went off to the NW airfield together. I've only ever killed 4 people (axe). Two because they had broken legs and asked me to do it. Two others because they attacked me 5vs1, they had guns. It was my first time playing DayZ. I've never seen Balota or its Airfield.

Can only carry gun/tool on your baack if you have a pack
VermillionX replied to Karmaterror's topic in Suggestions
Perhaps adjust it to apply to certain equipments instead of any backpack. Most backpacks lack the clear ability to attach a weapon to. Of the current backpacks only the Hunter Backpack, Leather Sack, SPOSN Tortilla Backpack, Smerch Backpack and Mountain Backpacks are the only ones with the parts capable to sling a weapon from. In which case, Holsters and Vests are probably better for this purpose. With an Improvised Holster/Harness made from just a rope, it would make it possible to carry weapons early game, at least until you acquire a holster or vest later down the track. Since, well... rope is everywhere in every shed and garage. It does look unimaginably ridiculous to sheath a machete on your back as a freshspawn and see it just stick, edge-out, to your T-shirt. -
A new approach to the bandits and heros situation

It's better than people just falling off roofs and being immune to all sicknesses. Better yet, it's better than the DayZ mod magically generating scarves, full clothing and ghillie suits. -
A new approach to the bandits and heros situation
VermillionX replied to con_hathy (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Well, A Karma-esque system would be nice; better if there was no way to visibly keep track of Karma points except in your head. A Karma system I can envision for the Standalone would retain the original ranks: Bandit, Survivor and Hero. Hero and Bandit each having only a small visible change once achieved and an improvement in a minor stat. Bandits: Upon reaching the Bandit state, the only visible changes would be small scars on their face (Eyebrow, cheek primarily) and exposed skin (Arms and legs). Unless you're face-to-face with one, being able to identify a bandit as a bandit would be considerably difficult at range. Nearly impossible with face gear. Advantages of the Bandit status being a slight improvement in Night Vision, a small resistance to Cold temperatures and a slower cooling rate while hot. Standard ways of acquiring negative karma coming from killing Survivors or Heroes, Force-feeding Disinfectant Spray and eating human meat. Heroes: Upon reaching Hero state, the only visible changes would be military tattoos on the player's arm and neck. Like the bandits, it's hard to spot unless you're face-to-face with them. Somewhat easier since they're more likely to approach you. Advantages of the Hero status being an increased recovery rate while Energized/Hydrated, slightly slower bleed rate, a small resistance to Hot temperatures and heat exhaustion with a greater susceptibility to cold. Standard ways of acquiring positive karma coming from applying appropriate medical aid to other survivors, killing bandits and removing handcuffs. In this, the advantages and disadvantages of Hero and Bandit are roughly equal. Bandit being easier to achieve, but not quite as useful while fully geared due to a susceptibility to overheating. While the Hero will have a harder time earlier on without warm gear, during rainstorms or at night. When killed, a player's karma is reduced to just below their original status (so like... 5 karma points below Hero/Bandit) or reset to 0 if they were a survivor without a leaning much in either direction. -

carry more than one primary gun? why not
VermillionX replied to Sooden's topic in General Discussion
This isn't quake. If they want to carry more guns, they have to make the sacrifices required to do so. -
carry more than one primary gun? why not
VermillionX replied to Sooden's topic in General Discussion
You can carry 2 primary guns by having one on your back and one in your hands. It's what I do. -
One word for you: Splint. Funnily enough, it's basically that suggested recipe, only easier. A Bandage/Rags + Sticks = Splint.

Simple enough, i've seen plenty of items in-world that we can pick up and eat or drink, but why does it only stop there? Even the flavor text on the items hints at further development. The first example is Rice: You should be able to put it in a cooking pot with water to properly cook it so it loses its dehydrative effect (Note: For those that don't know. Each time you eat rice, you lose water equal to 3+ sodas.) while instead increasing the food value (rice swells) and gaining a small amount of hydration. The second example item is potentially more important: Powdered Milk. Similar to Rice, consuming powdered milk recovers hunger and sacrifices hydration. I suggest the ability to craft it with a water bottle or canteen filled with water (as it suggests on the item's flavor text) to produce milk. Cumulatively adding the stats of the water and the milk. Alternatively, the ability to use a canteen or water bottle on a cow to gain milk, as long as you approach it from behind, crouched and it doesn't run away (maybe add a animal-sneak mechanic for that purpose... and hunting). Third Dry Food is of course Cereal. Well, you have milk now... Though it may help if there was a Bowl item for eating the above foods, or even an improvised bowl using a ballistic helmet (lol. It's been done before). With bowls being available from civilian kitchens and restaurants (Who'd have thought?). I'd guess 2 horizontal slots in size. Stacks while empty up to 5. Now aside from the bowl, another new item would be a Thermos: A glorified water bottle in the event that you have no use for hot liquids (4 uses). If you do have a cooking pot, the addition of Tea Bags and Instant Coffee in kitchens and supermarkets that can be easily brewed if you have water. Although somewhat unrealistic, either add some kind of bonus... mild painkilling for Tea and... something else for coffee (Temp knockout resistance?), or simply recover hunger. Coupled with the obvious bonus of being hot and raising the player's body temperature. Additionally, players can (obviously) just boil water in a cooking pot to purify it as opposed to using a water purification pill. Dragging the contents to a water bottle or canteen yield normal water, while doing the same to a thermos yields hot water that additionally raises body temp in cold environments (Or you can craft a tea bag with it for Hot Tea). Semi-Related, the ability to cook baked beans or spaghetti and store them in a hot state in a thermos could also be a viable tactic for increasing body temp. If only temperature was actually a threat...

Things would probably be worth it more if there were less food items around or were more damaged/rotten. (Seriously, I haven't seen anything but pristine items in weeks.) If things like fruit and canned goods were rarer it would encourage people to forage trees, farm, trade or pursue the cooking tree instead of Canned Peaches > Water Bottle > Military Base > Killing Spree. Things are just bad simply because there's too much loot everywhere.
-
Alas, some things get too complicated when the item requirements exceed the outputs. Sugar, Salt and Flour have no use as themselves and require at least 4-6 additional items each to produce a food output. Things like soup, stew, baked potatoes, chips and fried eggs are all fairly simple. But baking, battered fish and other multi-stage means of crafting food becomes too work intensive for minimal output. You have to take into account the rarity of each item as well as the space it takes up in a player's inventory. There's no point to an 8-item food whose ingredients take up 16 slots, that only has 4 uses when you can just eat 16 plain cooked porkchops and get back 4x more hunger with 1/6th of the work. Though the addition of naturally spawning mushrooms in fields would be nice. A respawnable food source that you have to go into the open to find.

Some form of preserved bread you can loot? Sure. Baking it yourself? Nope. Too many ingredients. Little nutritional value. Unless your goal from the beginning is to make bread (Not exactly a first choice among freshspawns); Yeast, Sugar and Flour are all one-use things with no other applications (You cannot eat them). To carry all the ingredients and cooking instruments you would need to fill an entire large backpack.

Objects and their impact on everything - effects detached from us players
VermillionX replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately, it wouldn't stop with player interactions on items. Time, Rain and Cold that are all part of the map that would also need to take effect on clothing and books left out in the open. Find a TTsKO vest in barracks shower room? Wet. Book at a bus stop? Ruined (and soggy) if it's been raining. Apple on a table that spawned a week ago? Rotten. -
Last Death? Suicide to see if it would fix my view bug. Stupidly enough, I had to jump from the roof of Electro hospital 3 times to finally die. As a result, i've discovered how to survive great falls with almost no damage. Prior to that, the last real death was against an unknown player as I was running my way down the road from Stary Sobor. 1 SKS round to the head. Never saw it coming.

Sitting next to fire and still hypothermic

Are you sure that you're cold and not hot? Hypothermia (Cold) can easily be mistaken for Hyperthermia (Hot). -
Results of killing (insanity, morality)
VermillionX replied to threedogification's topic in Suggestions
What? You've never met people in-game who yell "Friendly!" when you meet them? I was unaware that every single person who plays this game kills on sight without a second thought. Had this been a real event, people would band together simply because they know there's no respawn and shit hurts irl. Hell, if you survived a zombie apocalypse, it would be because you had no loved ones to lose and probaby lived alone and apart from people before it all happened. What you're asking for is not sanity or morals, it's for YOUR morals be applied to everyone else and with poor execution. Morals are part of the player, not part of the game. You choose whether to KoS for no reason (Basically griefing) or whether to go up and say "hi". The consequences of choosing either have an effect on both people involved. Your character feels the same thing whether he shoots a tree or shoots a player. Even as a legitimate suggestion, if you were going to suggest some kind of sanity effect. Crying, screaming and weird visual effects would be a terrible way to implement a sanity status effect. A far more effective means would be hearing non-existant gunshots, footsteps, mic sounds from random directions as paranoia sets in. In fact, paranoia would be a better status effect than "Insanity". -
It's disheartening to see so much military loot even in civilian towns. The SKS is a military semi-automatic rifle with no need for a mag unlike many other rifles, and should be one of the rarer/rarest guns. Instead, it's by far the most common weapon i've found. Considering that most locations are civilian, there should be less Mosins and SKSs and more limiting weapons like the Sporter, Repeater, CR527 Carbine, Crossbow, IZH-43, MP133 and the occasional Blaze Rifle. I've seen only a single sporter, 2 repeaters and a few crossbows (rare ammo), 1 MP133 and no izh43s in all my time. Meanwhile, I often find 5-6 SKS in a single small town. In most cases, the civilian weapons spawn in military barracks where they just plainly don't belong and there's always something better on hand or even in your inventory by the time you get there.

Quite often gunshots have no sound effects so it's possible you were headshot and just couldn't hear the shot. Alternatively, the Bow and Crossbow are silent and a headshot with either will kill you. Or it may just be a bug.

Whats the fastest time you got geared up in?
VermillionX replied to anddos's topic in General Discussion
15 minutes. Spawned near Electro, found Stanag double-clips in a house on the way, found an M4A1 upstairs in the first building in the town, on the way out I was passing sniper hill and found a backpack with some ruined stuff in it, along with an ACOG scope for the M4, a pristine Magnum with 16 rounds and a ballistic helmet. -
According to the wiki it can take 3 handgun rounds before being useless or 1 rifle round with a knockout. While the ballistic helmet can take 2 M4 Rounds and i'd guess more hits from smaller caliber rounds.

There's also rain.

I'd like to booby trap my back pack with a grenade so that if some boner head

Attach the grenade to an item instead of the backpack. If they try to take out the item or the grenade before removing the tie to the pin... -
Hey guys, So I log in today, no settings were changed and no matter what I do my view is completely screwed to the point that the game is almost unplayable. My screen in 3rd person no longer shows me a view of my character's back, it shows the back of his head. Indoors, my view is almost completely obscured by my character's head. In first-person view, my viewpoint is about 20cm forward of where it should be, i'm i'm only just barely able to see my chracter's knuckles and looks as though i'm zoomed in though i'm not, mouse movement is also sluggish and while running, my character has a tendency to snap his view upward for no reason. Now before some wag says "change your FOV", i've already tried that. The settings are the same as they were yesterday and changing the FOV just makes it all fishbowl-y. I've deleted and redownloaded the entire game and still have the same problem.
-
It doesn't. I tried all that long before I came here. It's not a resolution problem, it's a camera placement problem. My camera is either stuck behind my character's head or on top of his hands.
-
Tried all of the above. I can RMB-zoom while in that state. Though all I get is an astounding view of my character's receeding hairline.
