Persistently boring empty servers.
VermillionX replied to ryanincalgary's topic in General Discussion
I play on a 40-player persistent server. It's great. Always has at least 25 players at any one time and you rarely get KoS'd. There's enough loot to be worth playing, but not enough that I actually need to look for it. All the complaints seem to be coming from lazy players who raid the coastal town they spawn in for some canned food, then sprint straight to the nearest military base, ignoring every town and house along the way, then rage when they find the military base empty (As is expected on a Persistent Server) and then blame it on persistence. The same people complain that they're dying of cold or their shoes are wearing out too fast or that they can't find common balaclavas. Wear some goddamn civilian clothes! Raid EVERY house you find. Ignore the military bases until you're fully geared in good quality civilian clothing or just happen to stumble across one. You find the best items in ordinary houses and people usually haven't emptied all of them. You can even sometimes find decent military clothing in civilian buildings. I've found plenty of military boots, gorka helms and ballistic helmets in coastal town barns. -
Santa Hat (maybe full suit) only as December loot
VermillionX replied to Karmaterror's topic in Suggestions
I'd rather see santa suit-wearing zombies. No loot implications, but plenty of christmas spirit to go around. -
Improvement Ideas: Amputation and Medicine
VermillionX replied to Rucki's topic in General Discussion
Of course amputation isn't a popular idea. In the course of amputating an arm or leg, you've just fucked yourself permanently, or at least until you die; which the amputation is meant to prevent. Better off to just die and go back and get your stuff. The same situation occurs if someone else amputates your arm/leg. Anyone in that situation would rather suicide than keep playing that permanently screwed character. -
I've never found one, or seen someone else with one.

I tried to suicide to fix a bug by jumping out a window in the Electro Hospital. Didn't work. Even though the window had no glass and went almost to the floor from the ceiling, I still couldn't jump out of it. Though surprisingly, I discovered by jumping off the hospital roof that if you do a sprint-jump from great height, you'll usually take little to no damage when you hit the ground. The game seems to think that it's still a jump instead of a fall.

There are a lot of large items that people irl hang or strap to their packs/belts that we have (Pots, Pans, Tents, Jerrycans, Canteens, etc). But until we have some kind of weight and/or stamina system it would just be an unfair way to carry large items without sacrificing carrying capacity.

so..... how do i fend myself against zombies when im empty handed?
VermillionX replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
It's not so much that the zombies are too hard for freshspawns, it's that they cheat. They see through walls, run through walls and are damn durable. It's best to just not fight them until you have something big and heavy to hit them with. So... if you don't have something that's an actual weapon, don't engage. It's advised to avoid standing in their line of sight. Treat them as you would a geared player with a mosin. If they start to chase, jump over fences and sprint like crazy for sheds and woodhouses. Those things always have a good weapons in them, usually a splitting axe. Although people never check them (stupid people...), always look under those green-blue trailers (they're everywhere, clean and out-of-place), there is almost always a good weapon under them (Fireaxe, Machete, Sporter 22, Blaze Rifle). -
Uhhh... why? To make a spear, you need a machete. A machete is more than double the damage of a pitchfork. A pitchfork is a three-pronged metal-tipped spear. Your spear is just pointy wood.

It's Kambiwobo. Everyone knows that! See here:

Nothing reduces PvP KoS like...I don't know...EATING PEOPLE!?!
VermillionX replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
I've found knives to be exceedingly rare. It probably won't cause much of a problem if people lack the tools to fillet a player. -
You shouldn't have drunk his soda...

If you have a truck, you can drive underwater to the outlying islands. ... Need lifejackets.

Problem with this merge is that I don't think the game is shit and want my money back.

Instead of crafting a specialized "Rain Catching stand", why not just use a bucket? Crafting not required. Multiple other applications.

Really? I've never encountered any dangerous temperatures or weather. When it's cold. Just jogging will warm you up to safe+ levels. When it's hot... doesn't happen. I've never seen it cold + rain. And afaik, wind doesn't actually exist. I've never heard it or seen evidence of it's effects. I've never used a fire or any means of generating heat... ever. I've never gone above "Hot". I've never gone below "Cold". DayZ is environmentally safe. The only time you'd ever risk hypothermia is from idiocy. Such as running through a river or the ocean, then standing still for 30 mins. I don't even know how you'd get Hyperthermia. Excessive sprinting, i'd guess.

Got sick from eating burnt bore steak
VermillionX replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
We'll probably be able to boil water in future. I don't think it's possible atm. Pans and Cooking Pots can be crafted with a Portable Gas Stove so you can cook with them. Afaik, it's takes longer to go from cooked to burned when using a pot/pan. -
Got sick from eating burnt bore steak
VermillionX replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Probably Medium Food Poisoning. It happens when you eat burned meat. To prevent it in future, learn to cook properly. Otherwise, the oh-so-rare Charcoal Tabs will fix food poisoning. Boar = Pig. Bore = Hole. -
It'll be ignored.

Flat Packs.

Instead of just transferring automatically, i'd recommend something like holding Ctrl while clicking an item in your inventory selects 2x2 slots and lets you drag whatever items are in them at once. Something realistically akin to grabbing a double handful of cans.

The sheer quantity of mags and ammo is suspicious. That, and all the food in them is all the same.

Does anyone know the name of Dean Hall In-Game?
VermillionX replied to EHNR's topic in General Discussion
According to his steam profile Dean hasn't played DayZ in quite a while. Seems to be spending all his time in Space Engineers. He's played it for 114.7 hours in the last two weeks and has released some decent mods for it. -
I only check notes if they're in suspicious places. They're always blank. Now I don't bother.

Walked through an open field. We've all done it...

Rider's jacket. 'nuff said. Until I get a good military jacket with camo and lots of storage, I go full black. Sometime I stick with my Rider's Jacket. Swat style: Black Cargo Pants, Black Boots, Black Gloves, Black SKS, Black Helmet and ofc, my Black Rider's jacket. If I can find a Balaclava, even better.
