Things I wish were never introduced to DayZ

Bumping, almost everyone I've ever seen/talked to with an L85 agrees that it feels like you are hacking DayZ, even the most concealed players become giant glowing targets.

    1. Because they really do need batteries, so really are finite. same with NVGs by the way. 2. Because they are ultra rare for the individual player, but not for the clan loot farmers and hoarders, giving them access to an unrealistic level of map dominance. Exactly. While it might be ultra-rare technically. I've seen screenshots of groups with 3-4 L85AI's (thermal scopes) stored in a vehicle/tent ON TOP of the ones that the players were already using. I know multiple groups who turn their version back to 1.5 for special (quiet) servers where loot resets almost instantly when you remove it. In the course of a couple hours they get more fresh loot from the barracks than even a regular group could get in a week and an individual could hope for after multiple months. There are countless exploits and tricks that groups are using to stockpile NVG's, thermal scopes, and other high end weaponry. There's still plenty of ultra-rare loot with my post, just not the stuff that gives an enormous advantage to those who abuse loot tables.

Did you even read the post? Your ignorance is downright embarrassing. Well for starts the default temperature is 42 degrees celcius (106 degrees fahrenheit) so apparently it's a very warm summer in Chernarus. Second of all I'm talking about overheating in Ghillie suits, which IS very common. ' Quick quote from the Wiki on Ghillie suits: "Even in moderate climates, the temperature inside of the ghillie suit can reach over 50 °C (120 °F)." I'm out of touch with reality? You need to take your meds, calm down, and try again.

It takes guts not to shoot on sight

Ask them to pull out their secondary? You realize 1 shot from a 1911 will drop you instantly right? It's never worth the risk.
  5. There's a lot of broken stuff surrounding what happens when a large group of players rolls into a town together. I'll try and summarize the problem: 1 - Impossibly large groups will spawn on even the smallest of structures. This violates the game's goals of realism and encouraging co-operative play. I asked my squad to cover me as I checked out a deer stand, by the time I got up the deer stand there were more military zombies in the area than at a typical helicopter crash, it was ridiculous. The same will happen at even tiny sheds, barns, and other innocuous structures. 2 - Sometimes the size of spawns that we create from structures "dries out" nearby spawns. Case-in-point: We approach Starry Sobor from the West, every building on the West side has a horde wandering around it. We get to the military tents and what do we see? They are completely undefended, not a single zombie in sight. 3 - Vehicles + Groups = Chaos. For some reason zombies don't spawn while we sit in our truck, but we have learned the hard way that if we pull up to a gas station/building/etc. and all of us unload, within 30 seconds we are swarmed by 50+ zombies. Sure they won't spawn RIGHT on top of us like in 1.7.1 but I've still had zombies pop-in in front of my eyes merely 30 meters away. I agree that there should be some scaling in challenge for groups. But not so much that our group motto is "stay in the truck" for most encounters since anything more than 3-4 people leaving the truck turns any situation into chaos. Believe it or not, even 10+ players are not able to hold off 50+ zombies outdoors without serious casualties, friendly fire, and a massive waste of resources (ammo, medical supplies) that is never worth the risk for looting a few buildings. Part of this problem stems from zombie pathing, desync issues, lag, as well - but massive zombie spawns are the core of the issue.

    My first infiltration recorded.

Except it wasn't really an infiltration. It was more like "I was happy to roll around and play with this douchebag and be a douche to others but then he was a douche to me so I got mad and shot him".
  8. YES Currently there are no disincentives to killing someone and looting them, this would encourage more cooperation.
  9. Right now if you want to stealth ANYWHERE around zombies you are pretty much forced to go prone there. There are some ridiculous, unintuitive, and unrealistic differences between prones and crouch-walking that should be addressed. The sum of the problem is this: Crouch-walking is now insanely risky for pulling aggro, if you don't have an easy aggro breaker nearby then you might be forced to run a long time to shake aggro and if you don't have a weapon the experience can be doubly frustrating. When I would get aggro as a new player sometime's I'd just suicide because that was preferable to running down the coast for just so I could be right back where I started - in the middle of nowhere with no items. The disparity is extreme in both night and day. Day = Crouch walking is good at extreme ranges but even at 100m it becomes extremely risky due to small patches of ground that give different terrain bonuses. One of the most common pulling mistakes I've seen is when you're approaching an area from a good distance and suddenly there's a small patch of gravel you step in despite being surrounded by tall grass you will shoot up to 4 visibility bars from 2-3 and instantly pull anything that might have been looking in your direction. At night the sound difference is what makes it absurd. First off it's ridiculous that zombies gain "vision" upon hearing you at night, they should come investigate sound, not instantly gain awareness of your exact location and be able to track you even without line of sight. Perma-prone as the only safe stealth option is extremely tedious and there are dozens of reasons why crouching should be also be a viable stealth option. I was getting night aggro like crazy in a town earlier when I noticed that crouch-walking on gravel gave off 4-sound bars (almost guaranteed aggro to anything within 150m I might as well have fired a pistol). SLOW crouch-walking gave off 3 bars of sound. Prone? Apparently dragging my entire body through gravel is COMPLETELY SILENT with 0 sound bars but walking over it is equivalent to firing a pistol into the air. I've greatly improved my chances of survival since 1.7.1 but not by becoming a stealthier or better player. I've learned countless exploits against zombie AI and abused them, as does every veteran player I group with now. Nobody says "let's sneak in slowly", it becomes "Just run in, sneaking it pointless because there will be zombies inside to aggro us anyway because we have to stand up to get over the building entrance, so just run in let everything get stuck up on the entrance, then loot the place and scram". 90% of our zombie strategy involves running to 2-entrance buildings and abusing zombie AI there.
  10. I play late at night frequently but most of my daytime squad stops playing at around 7pm. I'd like to play more on other servers but I find lone wolf play to be very boring, but also very risky (10k blood knockouts, random bone breaking, nobody to watch your back, etc.) My steam name is ForcefulCJS and I have all the voicecom software (Skype:ForcefulCJS1). Just hit me up or reply in this thread, I'm looking for some night-time adventures!

Yup, though I'm not playing a bandit yet so it's not quite the same PvP experience.

New update calls for new alliances

Steam: ForcefulCJS Skype: ForcefulCJS1 Add me and let's talk, hopefully I can survive with this stupid food/drink bug until this afternoon.
  13. I'm no way a 'hardcore' player, but I like the no starting gun gameplay. It's anecdotal, but I think it is making a difference with players shoot on sight mentality. Yea they won't shoot on sight now that they can't. Once they get a weapon though it's back to shoot on sight all over again.
  14. Run 7.1 was supposed to encourage greater use of stealth? Wrong Run As long as zeds spot crouch-walkers from 30m+ out, stealth-based exploration and scavenging is simply not that efficient for new players. Once you have enough gear/supplies built up that charging across the wasteland is risky, then you can start keeping your head down... but for those of you looking for your first weapons/supplies, just run. Spawn and then run to the nearest loot spot (barn, fire station, warehouse, anything with 2 doors, etc.) and sprint the whole way, lure every Zed into the 2-doored building, watch them all slow up because for some reason Zeds can't run indoors, and then enjoy your new bag/weapon/phat loot, walk out the back door scot free. Got aggro away from a cheese-building? Just run into the treeline and go around any curves/crests/big trees to break LOS and have the chasers lose interest. A fresh character went from an interesting management of limited resources as you explored zombie-infested towns to an USAIN BOLT SCAVENGER HUNT SIMULATOR 2012. Just run, nothing can hurt you if you just run. 1.7's attempt to encourage stealth just ruined it. 1.7 was supposed to cure fresh players from running into the nearest town Makarov blazing, but now it just encourages them to run to the nearest big building and sprint around like a madman. Pre-1.7 was more interesting for new characters, this is just silly. Did another run, I'm having trouble finding an inverted time server but I'm still a rookie at this, I'm sure a pro would have no problem abusing the hell out of this once they learn all the locations. Spawned outside a gas station/village that's gotten me killed a few times. First 4 times I had to start lying prone from the moment I spawned but would inevitably draw aggro when I shifted to crouching. This time I just booked it to the gas station, ran them through a building and Viola! Easy looting and an early weapon that would've been impossible to get through stealth.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update

I haven't noticed any change with the hotfix. If there wasn't such a big fuss about the hotfix I wouldn't have even noticed. A few examples: 1) Skirting around town, I accidentally step between grass in a narrow patch of gravel while crouch-walking. LOL 4 VISIBILITY I TROLL U. 3 zeds that were 90-120 yards out all lock onto me instantly and take my weaponless ass to the curb (the only place to break LOS was further in town, with 5 visibility while sprinting, you can guess how that would go). 2) With to the air control tower in the Southern airstrip. Only more random mags and non-necessary supplies scattered around. It's been 9 hours since I've fired a weapon while playing this game and I'm getting fed up. Some random survivor comes sprinting to the top from the stairs and hides in the corner without saying a word. I figure anything chasing him would stop due to line of sight, if he's hiding up here how would the zeds know to navigate 2 flights of stairs to check up here? Cue conga line of zeds into top of the tower. That idiot gets me killed after I had to crawl my ass over to the tower in prone for nearly 15 minutes to avoid random aggro from town (best visibility I could get was 3 while crouch walking, way too risky with foliage covering possible zeds all around me, I had died earlier with 3 bars when a Zed hidden a bush nearly 40 yards away popped out with aggro on me). 3) Spawn, take 5 steps, Zed sees me, ADIOS 4) Spawn on Elektro docks, my browser map says a nearby shed has possible loot in it. I look over and only see 1 prone Zed crawling down the docks. I get closer, behind the shed and I go from prone to crouch. I see a Zed come running OUT of the shed and make a b-line for me. I slide down the cliff to break LOS. By the time I climb back up I see my previous Zed and THREE MORE pouring out of the previously empty shed. I take forever to slowly slide around prone until I get past them all and into the side, but there's a lip on the door so I have to crouch-walk to get in. As soon as I raise myself up and step in a FIFTH zed is standing right in middle of the room, dead silent, that was until he turned around and started mauling my face. 5) See another survivor. He helps me out, notice that he is pretty well armed and NEVER stops sprinting. I ask how he got such nice weapons when he seems to aggro everything on our screen, he says he has a huge stash of weapons hidden away and that he or his friends can get hooked up if they ever die. He proceeds to sprint through a field and blow away anything that sees him, he makes more progress just by sprinting through the map and shooting anything that's on him while he loots than I do by "following the rules" and laying low. He kills more zeds by playing COWWADOOTY RUN N SHOOT in 30 seconds than I have by trying to play stealthily for the past 9 hours. TL;DR I hate the patch and can't tell if the hotfix actually FIXED anything. Still haven't seen a damn Makarov or found my own weapon yet.
  16. Crouch-walking is still suicide if you are in a town. You are forced to prone everywhere or risk sudden and instantaneous aggro. I haven't fired a weapon in nearly 8 hours of playing now since 1.7.1 and now 1.7.1.1 I started near the Komarovo shipping area, proned all the way in to be safe but had to crouch walk up a ramp to get in. The mere act of going up that ramp bumped my sound up to 2 and within a minute every zed within 100 yards was exploring the ground floor of that building and slowly homing in on the 1-2 bar sounds I had made while going up the stairs... these zeds have AMAZING memory. I managed to get out via ladder while they swarmed the stairs, I tried to crouch walk out since the path looked clear but even as I reached the grass my visibility remained at 3 and I quickly pulled multiple zeds from 50+ yards. I ran to the lighthouse West of Komarovo and tried to break line of sight there but when you've got Zeds 2 feet behind you at all times, sight breaking becomes insanely difficult. After losing over half my blood I finally ran up the lighthouse ladder and broke aggro that way. I climbed back down later and managed to prone past them and continue to Komarovo. At this point I had checked 15+ loot locations and barely found anything. When I got to Komarovo I decided to stick to the beach since it looked clear. I crouch walked toward the water's edge to scope the place out and suddenly my feet hit a patch between the grass *LOL 4 VISIBILITY BARS SON GET DUNKED NOOBLORD* yea, my bars blipped up to 4 for half a second WHILE CROUCH WALKING and I turn and see 3 zeds I hadn't even noticed charging at me from 100 yards out. I just sat there and whistled a tune while I let them finish me off, wasn't in the mood to drag out another chase with over half my blood missing and having only a hunting knife, an auto part, and some barbed wire to show for it. I don't understand, who in their right mind wants to be forced into prone within 100 yards of every town? I can understand needing it for close-range insertions but if I want to skirt around a town I shouldn't have to worry about crouch walking being equivalent to a L4D car alarm. 15th cumulative death without firing a weapon. I spawned near Balota, kept my face in the grass for 7 minutes to get to the airfield. Finally get inside and all I find are mags for high-end weapons, smoke grenades, and other non-essential supplies. Literally less than one minute later some chump runs upstairs. I should friendly and he just runs up and stands in a corner. I type in chat and hear zombies below. "Oh well, we're both quiet now and they don't have line of sight... they should wander off now". Nope They climb two flights of stairs and corner us.
  17. Finally found a friendly, I asked how he managed to find all those weapons with the insane aggro he was pulled (he never stopped sprinting anywhere). He said he just had a hidden stash with tons of weapons. Cool guy, but just reinforcing that this patch is a swift kick in the balls for new players. Veterans can just hit up their stash/friends/squad for stuff if they die and exclaim how "great" the new aggro is while they mow down zeds after sprinting through several open fields. Meanwhile Joe Newguy can slide his face in the dirt for an hour and he'll be lucky to find a Makarov.
  18. I have had 0 people help me since 1.7.1 at most they will ignore me and typically they will tell me to stop following since there's only 2 things other fresh respawns can do for you: 1) Accidentally pull Zeds to your position, kill you both 2) Jack the first weapon you find and leave you unarmed At least other friendlies had the POTENTIAL to help before, now they are just a second chance to be spotted by eagle-eye zombies. Only thing I've gotten from other people today is headshots from bandit snipers.
