Apartments are very inconvenient places to loot.

I don't even bother looting apartment buildings. They're a complete waste of time.

    Community idea of Bandit

I consider a bandit to be someone who holds people up, takes people hostage, ect. People who KOS, I call murderers. I have way more respect for someone who robs me of my gear rather than shoots me in the head from a rooftop. I don't even get annoyed when someone robs me or takes me hostage, because at least they had the decency to not shoot me for no reason.

the reaction to mass amounts of zeds worry me

Yeah I agree when it comes to the type of zombies where they're just walking corpses. Those would be easy to stay away from. I'm talking more about an extreme case of rabies, where the people completely lose their minds but aren't dead. Then again though, the risk of being infected by this type of zombie kind of depends on how fast they're able to run. It also depends on how the virus could spread to the point of being out of the government's control. But basically, the zombie apocalypse I'm saying would be tricky to survive in is the type where about 3/4 of the world's population got turned into lunatics running around eating people. Any other scenario would be pretty easy to stay safe in, like you said. Really it depends on the type of zombie, and how the infection managed to spread to the point of a pandemic.

the reaction to mass amounts of zeds worry me

For one thing, zombies aren't fully developed yet. For another, DayZ isn't like other zombie games, where the player can go through hundreds of zombies without dying. It's meant to be a challenge. A real zombie apocalypse wouldn't be easy, and DayZ is meant to be a zombie apocalypse simulator.

V3S is now made of paper and a death trap

I'm just avoiding the trucks for now, until the devs can make them less buggy. Currently, there's no reason to ride them.

    4 hours in...

For now, we all have to deal with lack of zombies and quite a few bugs. But the game will improve as development progresses.

    First kill

My first combat experience was when I had about 2 hours of playtime. I was looting a house, when a guy with a baseball bat sprints in and starts attacking me. I ran out, and found his buddy waiting for me outside, also holding a baseball bat. I managed to take them both out with my fire extinguisher, but I ended up dying from blood loss 10 seconds later.

    Dragging

I also hope dragging dead bodies will be added/throwing dead bodies into trucks. It would be very helpful for the cannibals out there, who want to drag their victims into a shed or something and chow down. Putting the bodies into trucks would also be interesting for cannibals, because if you have a clan of cannibal buddies, you could drive the body to them and give them some of the meat. It's the same for unconscious people as well. It would be fun to knock someone out, handcuff them, put a burlap sack on their head, and drive them to whatever your destination is.

    Where is everyone?

Any of the coastal cities, and sometimes Novo and the area around it. I've headed into the northern parts of the map a few times, but I get a bit bored because of the isolation from other players. If I ever want to play the hermit though, I'll be in the forest up north.
  10. Kirby12352

Where to go when I first spawn...?

If you want to play the reclusive hermit, first stock up on basic supplies, such as a splitting axe and rope, and then head north into the woods. If you're into player interaction, run along the coast. Or you could just run in any random direction. While it can get tedious, it's fun to sometimes just run through the wilderness completely lost. If you're planning on staying near the coast, I've found Berezino to have quite a few friendly people. This varies from server to server, though.

    DayZ poem

Avoid the VS3 if you don't want to die. It will be less buggy later on, but for now just travel on foot, unless you're a newspawn and you come across a VS3, in which case you have nothing to lose.

    Oh boy..hard to find...

Houses in residential areas usually always have a bit of food. Also, just keep eating and drinking until you get Energized and Hydrated.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Logged in in Cherno. Ran around, spent some time looting. There was no sign of any people. No zombie corpses, no human corpses, no gunfire. After a while I was pretty confident I was the only person in Cherno. But as I was making my way out of the city towards Elektro, as I was hitting a zombie in the head with my sledgehammer, I heard a voice say, "Put your hands up and drop all your gear or you will die, I have an AKM." I turned around and saw a guy in a ghillie suit approaching me with his gun drawn. He said "Drop your gear now so my friend can check it." Another guy then came out from behind a fence and approached me. I figured that since there was two of them, both armed, it wasn't the best time to go Rambo on them. I put my sledgehammer on my back, put my hands up, and dropped my backback, my weapons, and all my clothes. Then my game crashed on me, which was super annoying because it's a rare experience to be robbed rather than shot in the head by a sniper. I logged back in, but the guys were gone. They had taken most of the items out of my backpack, but there was still some gear left. They left my weapons, but took all my ammo. I picked up my gear, but then I heard them talking. I figured that was a good time to haul my sorry butt out of Cherno. I stopped at a pond to drink some water, then I kept going. Eventually I made it to Elektro. I looted for a while, then logged out for the day.

Best tactic in dealing with zombies?

Just circle around it counter-clockwise, and keep on hitting him. Try to get some headshots if possible.

I killed a guy - my first in DayZ

Don't sweat what you do too much. Some people might like being the all-out heroes who never kill unless the person's a super obvious bandit, but in the end it's a survival game. The only thing that matters in the end is that you stay alive.

    How was your Day(Z)?

This all happened yesterday but I'll post it anyway. Logged in outside of Berezino. I walked down the coast for a while, not seeing any players. Then, as I was walking, I saw a player running down the road. I hid behind a tree, watching him. Suddenly he walked into a bush and didn't come out. I sat there for about 10 seconds, debating what I should do. I figured he had either logged out or was AFK, but I was also worried that he was a bandit waiting for someone to walk by so he could shoot them. Finally I got up and walked over to the bush. When I got there, he started moving and drew his weapon. I already had my pickaxe out, so I hit him a couple times and killed him. I took his military boots and some of his food, and then continued down the coast. I ended up in Elektro, where I ended up being shot several times. I somehow managed to survive, and ran into a house. I stayed there for a few minutes, waiting for my blood level to increase. After a while, I left the house, and ran into a couple guys. One offered me food and ammo, which I declined, having enough of both. Then out of nowhere, the one that offered me supplies drew his firefighter's axe and killed me. I heard the other guy say "Whoa whoa why did you do that?" and the guy who killed me was like "Back up, back up!". I heard a bit of a standoff happening between them before I hit Respawn. I respawned outside of Berezino. I headed over there, and got some supplies. I was on the third floor of a building when a guy walked in, put a green jacket on the ground, and left without saying anything. I was a bit weirded out, but I took the jacket because it was better than my shirt I was currently wearing. As I headed to the bottom level and grabbed some tuna off a shelf, a guy walked in and was like "Whoa whoa, umm hey." I said "Hey", and he was like "Hey man there's a robber in town that I just escaped from. Just letting you know." then he left the building. I headed up to the area of the city that's on the hill. As I was running down the street, I saw a guy run around a corner. I headed around the corner that he just went around, but I couldn't see him. Suddenly I hear, "Hey buddy". I turned around, and the guy was approaching me. He then asked, "What kind of gun is that? I might have ammo for it" I replied, "It's a blaze" He was like "Ohh yep I've got some ammo for that I think". Suddenly out of nowhere I got shot in the head by a sniper. The guy I was just talking to said "Holy s*** holy s***, f*** f*** f***" then he said, "Please don't shoot me". I respawned outside of Berezino again. I looked to my right and saw a guy approaching me. He came up to me and was like "Hey man where are you headed? Berezino?" I said "Yeah I just got sniped by someone in Berezino so I'm gonna try to find my body". He replied, "Oh okay well I'm heading there too cause my friend's there, want to come with?" I said "Sure", so we both ran to Berezino. When we got there, we parted ways. I found my body, although most of my supplies were taken by the guy who shot me. I headed down to the lower area of Berezino, where I heard gunfire. As I turned a corner, I saw a dead new spawn. I then turned around, and ran right into another player. He said to me, "Why you shooting players? Huh, huh? Why you shooting people?" I said "Umm I haven't been shooting anyone." He mumbled something I couldn't understand, then he ran into a building. I headed into a small house and logged out.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Logged in at the train station outside of what I think is Berezino (Not too sure about the city names yet). Right away I spotted a guy. I went prone, and he didn't see me. He started running along the coast in the direction I was heading, so I followed him but kept some distance between us. Suddenly he turned around and ran back the way he came. I hid behind a bush until he passed. Then I continued on my way, looting some houses here and there. I was running along the side of the road when I looked back and saw a new spawn running the same way I was going. He completely ignored me, so I just ran with him. Then after a while, I saw some movement a few hundred yards up the road. I ran off to the side of the road and started sneaking through the trees, but the new spawn just kept running. I got a decent view point lying prone under a pine tree, where I saw two bandits fighting another guy. The new spawn then joined the fight. I hid under my tree and watched it all go down. I saw someone go down and one of the bandits started punching him in the head. Then another new spawn with a white shirt came running down the road, and he got involved in the fight. Then after a while, the two bandits were the last guys standing. They made their way down the road, and after they got too far away to spot me, I ran up to the area the fight took place. All 3 dead guys had their clothes off and their loot spilled all over the ground. I took a few boxes of ammo, and then I started down the road, hoping I could catch up to the bandits and take them out. After a while, I heard a truck in the distance. I went prone under a pine tree, and saw the truck drive by. I waited until it was out of view, then I continued down the road. I ended up at a small village, where I saw a guy sprint across the road, but I didn't end up seeing him again. I ran until I ended up at a city which I don't know the name of. I looted a few buildings, until I came across a guy with a fire extinguisher, who slowly approached me. I took out my fire axe to scare him off, then I kept looting. I was in a building opening a can of beans, when I see a guy walk up to the store window and stare at me. After a few seconds, he typed "Friendly?" I said yeah, and he replied "Okay." I didn't see him for a bit after that. Suddenly I saw fire extinguisher guy run into the police station, this time with a sledgehammer. I looked into the window, and saw him standing there with the guy I had seen at the store earlier. He said "Hold up, I hear somebody." Then they both ran out, spotted me, and started attacking me. I got a few hits in with my damaged fire axe, but no headshots. We had a melee weapon 2v1 battle for a few minutes, but somehow the sledge hammer guy managed to break my leg. At that point I died of blood loss. I'm guessing me taking out my fire axe led the fire extinguisher/sledgehammer guy to think I was planning on killing him, and that's why he attacked me with the other guy. Either that or they were bandits who just decided to kill me.

    Taking on the bandit role.

Try making a video of a robbery/taking someone hostage. I've been taken hostage before, and it was much more interesting than being shot out of nowhere by a sniper. At least, it was interesting until the 3rd guy walked up and put a bullet in my head, even though I was following all their orders.

What's in your Zombie Survival Kit?

I don't believe a zombie apocalypse will ever happen. But if it did, I would probably bring a decently sized hammer, a few water bottles, some canned food, peroxide, bandages, a couple pocket knives, machete, a rifle, a pistol if I could find one, and if I had the room for it, my aluminum baseball bat. I didn't plan this list out because I don't plan for things like this that will never happen. I just listed everything off the top of my head.
  20. Kirby12352

    Your sworn enemy.

The majority of new spawns, because a lot of them are bandits who were recently killed, so they just start punching you for no reason.
  21. If I come across a newspawn, I'll usually pull out my melee weapon and start moving around while I have a quick chat with them and maybe drop them a bit of food. If they start punching me, I can take them out. Any times I've been knocked out by a newspawn is when I wasn't prepared and didn't have my weapon in my hands, and I'm not making that mistake again.

    Scariest Experience in DayZ

Probably the scariest moment was when it was my first day playing the game, and I was terrified of everything. There I was, in a house, picking up a can of beans, when a guy sprints through the door with a baseball bat and starts beating my face in with it. I was already super paranoid, and a jump scare like that did nothing to help calm my nerves.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Logged on in the apartment building area next to Cherno. Spent some time looting there. Picked up a mosin, various types of ammo, a sledgehammer, and food and other goodies. Didn't see any people, only a few zombies. Then I headed into Cherno, sticking close to the walls so I didn't get picked off by a sniper. So I was running alone the side of this stone fence, when I suddenly saw movement in a bush, and an orange drybag sticking out. A guy was sitting there with his gun out, looking all over the place. I assumed he was a bandit, so I stood there for about 20 seconds trying to find the best way to kill him. Suddenly he sits up, sticks his rifle under his chin, and kills himself. So I ran over, picked up an attachment for my mosin, food, bandages, a couple mags, ect ect. I also traded his drybag for my backpack. As I was finishing up looting his corpse, some newspawn runs over and starts punching me. Then he says "B**** you're the guy that killed me." I hadn't killed anyone, but the guy who I just looted must have been the bandit, and the newspawn probably saw his drybag on my back and assumed I was him. I swung a couple times but missed cause he was sprinting in zig-zags all over the area. Then he noticed the guys corpse, and ran over and started looting him. So I made use of that opportunity, and hit him in the head with my sledgehammer, killing him. I then made my way out of Cherno, looted a few houses, then walked into a shed and logged out. Fairly satisfying play session, although I would have liked to kill that bandit instead of him killing himself.

    DayZ Therapy Circle

Once a new-spawn walked into a building and was standing in the doorway with his back turned, picking something up off the ground. I walked up behind him, lifted my pickaxe, and waited for him to turn around. When he did, I hit him in the face with my pickaxe, killing him instantly. I then looted what little gear he had and went on my merry way. To be fair to myself, I was getting hungry and had no food.
  25. Kirby12352

    Dayz needs more mask.

Well, if I were in a zombie apocalypse, constantly fearing for my life and being wary of entering even a small town because of the zombies that surely had the town overrun, it wouldn't be my first instinct to put on a rubber unicorn mask while going on runs for supplies or moving from place to place. I assumed this was common sense to most people, but apparently it isn't.
