I did a search and didn't see any threads about this, but if I missed one then I apologize. My suggestion is being able to gag bound players with rags or duct tape, so that they are unable to talk with either voice or text chat. The main purpose would be for roleplay scenarios or to prevent hostages from communicating with teammates. The gag would be put on people the same way as handcuffs. Nothing super game changing, but it would add a neat aspect to holding people hostage.
-
Yeah that's true, but I'm just saying that it doesn't make a world of difference whether the person can see or not. It wouldn't if the person were gagged either aside from the occasions when they were screaming like in your case, but the burlap sack is a cool feature, and gags would be too, even if a lot of people use TS. Besides, there are quite a number of annoying people who just hurl swear words at their captors, which can get irritating. I personally have had a few instances in game where I wished I could gag someone, which is what inspired me to make the thread in the first place.
-
True, which is why I said it's mainly for roleplay, or for the odd people who aren't using TS. It's basically an offshoot of using a burlap sack for blinding people, which is mainly used on roleplay servers, and is something I don't see used too often on non-roleplay servers.

Suggestion for putting a pistol in your pants as a holster...

Hmm good point, I didn't think of the waistband being too tight. Then again though, this is a game where you can magically pull an SMG out of your backpack in about 2 seconds. -
Suggestion for putting a pistol in your pants as a holster...
Kirby12352 replied to .joeys's topic in Suggestions
Bad situation for any sorry survivor that has a bubble butt. Seriously though, that would look pretty cool. But some clothing would have big enough pockets for carrying a pistol, so maybe there should be an option for carrying it in both your clothes and in the back of your pants? That way you'd have a second pistol to fall back on if you ran out of ammo. -
I think with the next update zombies are supposed to spawn in greater numbers. I haven't heard anything about hordes, though.

So after about a 6 month hiatus from the game, I'm thinking I might jump back in, even if the infected are temporarily removed. Whenever I played, I generally didn't rely on firearms too often, except for grabbing a Sporter 22 now and then. So I'm wanting to try robbing some people and to do that I'll need some guns, so what I'm wondering is: -Where do guns and ammo spawn the most, aside from the obvious air fields? If I look in towns, what buildings should I generally be searching? -What is usually considered the most efficient automatic weapon in game, and what is the most efficient rifle? Sorry if these questions seem noob-ish, I just have always used either simple guns or no guns at all.
-
I've had this issue before. I can't remember what exactly I did to fix this because it's only happened when I first bought the game, but have you tried killing yourself?

Big problem with game what i think is it now.

I hope when the zombies get re-added that they spawn in greater numbers. They've never been a threat because there was never more than 20 or so in each city, which is pretty ridiculous. The only times I was ever a bit wary of zombies was when I didn't have a weapon, because if you're spending too long punching zombies in the face, there's the possibility that someone's gonna shoot you. As soon as you pick up a half decent weapon, zombies are entirely out of the picture, and the only thing you have to worry about is players, seen as food and water is plentiful, and there's currently no hostile wildlife. What I'd like to see is large groups of them in medium sized towns and cities, small but still a bit worrisome numbers in the countryside and wilderness, and, every so often, huge hordes that could potentially be anywhere, even in the wilderness. That way, even the hermits out there would have to be on the lookout. Plus, it would encourage players to stick together if they wanted to survive. After all, any lone wolves in a real zombie apocalypse would be killed sooner or later if they didn't join a group eventually. The reason KOS is so rampant now is because people don't have to fear the environment because the zombies are just minor annoyance, and finding food and water is so easy that starvation and dehydration hardly ever happens. Venturing into large towns and cities by yourself should be something to think about before actually doing it in game, not only because of players, but because of the zombies. I'm not wanting so many zombies that it's impossible to survive, I just want them to actually be a danger, rather than the harmless things they have been for the past two years. -
More vegetation in city's, warning announcement, roads
Kirby12352 replied to aldink's topic in Suggestions
Some of the cars and crashed helicopters and such look much too old to have been abandoned for only a few weeks or months. Vehicles don't degrade that quickly if left unattended. If they did, people who don't have a garage or constantly do maintenance on their cars would have cars that look 60 years old after a few years. -
Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
Kirby12352 replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Guns are used at a distance, and the person firing is usually hidden, and the person who is being shot at is often clueless to the fact that they're in someone's crosshair. If people were more likely to use melee weapons, that levels the playing field a bit, and people might not be quite so anxious to kill each other. However, as you said, chances are if they're planning on killing someone, they'll do so, whether it be with an axe, bow and arrow, or gun. -

I agree with this. DayZ seems to be having an identity crisis, where it doesn't know whether to be a zombie apocalypse survival game or just another shooter. If the main thing that keeps getting added is more guns, they might as well just do away with the whole survival aspect, because in it's current stage it's just a minor annoyance to have to search around for a few cans of peaches before the shooting begins. To the people who say the game was intended as a PvP game, yes, that was a mentioned aspect of the game, but the entire game wasn't supposed to be focused around it. It was supposed to be a PvP/survival game. The only reason it's looked at as a mainly PvP game now is because the survival part has been so neglected to the point that it's almost forgotten. -

You're exactly right about Rust. I went into it thinking it was more of a survival game than a PvP deathmatch, but I was very mistaken. Instead of it being a game about sharing resources with other players, building forts, and fighting off the occasional bandit like I'd been led to believe it was, it's actually just a bunch of naked men running around smashing each other's heads in with stones while the overlords of the servers sit in their castles laughing at the noobs fighting over crumbs. DayZ isn't quite that bad yet, but it's not far off, which is pretty disappointing. I wish something would be added to encourage cooperation between players, like zombies that are actually a threat. -

That's always the problem with these survival sims. They're supposed to be realistic, but most people wouldn't enjoy games that are that difficult, so in turn they wouldn't buy the games. As a result, the survival systems always have to be toned down to appeal to the masses. I understand though that a line has to be drawn somewhere in the difficulty so that people still buy the game. I would personally enjoy it if the survival and medical systems were made more difficult. Food isn't an issue, and neither is the medical system half the time when you have plenty of shirts and sticks around for bandages and splints. The zombies also aren't an issue, and they really never have been. Rarely am I ever killed by zombies, starvation, or any of the survival mechanics. My death is almost always caused by players, because when it's so easy to get gear and food and medical supplies, there's really no reason for people not to run around the coast gunning down new spawns. Not that I do that, I just understand why other people do. If people had to work harder to get their gear and their medical supplies, that would make them care more about staying alive, which would in turn make this game more of a true zombie apocalypse simulator, rather than just another deathmatch game with survival aspects sprinkled in. Plus, it would give people an incentive to form groups, which are always interesting. But groups rarely get formed because first of all, there's no real reason to when death is hardly a concern, and second of all, people don't even talk about teaming up in game because they're too busy shooting each other in the face. I'm not asking for this game to be so hardcore that you can't blow your nose without dying, I'm just saying it would be more enjoyable if it didn't take only half an hour to be fully geared, because then it turns into, as Whyhero123 said, a deathmatch with very long respawn times. -
I'm pretty sure Steam has a refund option now, so you could always buy the game and see if it runs, and if not, just get a refund. However, you can only get a refund if you've owned the game for less than two weeks, and if you've played for less than two hours. As for whether your PC can run it though, I can't say for sure, as I haven't played the game in a while and I'm not sure how laggy it is now. I never lagged, but my PC is pretty beefy.

A friend of mine messaged me about the DayZ mod on Skype, and I looked into it, but lost interest for a while. Then I heard there was a Standalone, so I looked it up, thought it looked interesting, and bought it.

Most people generally only sit on rooftops if they're planning on shooting somebody. Rarely have I seen someone on a roof who didn't take a shot at me, assuming they managed to spot me. And if you look closely at the slow motion part of the video, you can see that he has a gun out. So chances are he was waiting for someone to walk by so he could put a bullet in his head. If a guy is on a roof with his gun put away, or the guy is a new spawn, then chances are he's just scouting or something like that. But if he goes prone on a roof with his gun out, then I'll either kill him or avoid him, because a guy like that is just looking for trouble.
-
The guy he shot was just standing on the roof, so he was likely a bandit anyway.

Logged in for the first time in a couple months. I decided to head to Cherno. Found myself a bit of food and just as I entered a house, I saw a guy crouched on the ground facing away from me. Apparently he didn't notice me, because he got up, went out the door, and started picking berries. I left out the other door so he wouldn't see me, and continued down the coast. Found myself a child briefcase, a sledgehammer, and other goodies. I also found a tent, but sadly my briefcase wasn't big enough to carry it. So I continued down the coast, and headed towards a police station. I thought to myself, "There's probably somebody in there", and sure enough, a new spawn opened the door and ran out. As soon as he saw me, he ran back in, and he was yelling to his friends that "There's a guy out there". It sounded like there was 2 or 3 guys in there, and right when I was about to ask them not to shoot me, I got shot in the leg. I started to crawl away, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the guys in the police station shooting me, because I didn't see anyone on the roof and they were saying "Sounds like someone's getting shot up out there". After several misses, the guy finally managed to kill me. I respawned a few minutes away from that village, and started to head towards it. Along the way I ran into a newspawn, who asked me where I was headed. I told him I was heading to Cherno, and he said "Good luck man, Cherno's a long run from here." We were both heading in the same direction, so I ran beside him. He started singing some random song, but I was a bit too far away from him to hear the words clearly. We made it to the village, and ran into 2 other guys. After about a minute of small talk, we all went our separate ways. I headed back to my corpse and only picked up my sledgehammer, because everything else was ruined. I heard the guys in the police station talking, and it sounded like they were in a gun fight with someone, because I heard the one guy saying "I'm bleeding and don't have a bandage", and then there was a lot of gunfire. I hauled my butt out of there, and kept going towards Cherno. I ran into a guy, but we just said "Hey" and kept going. I made it to Cherno, and looted for a bit. I drank from a water pump, and went into a house and logged out for the day.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Kirby12352 replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I get pretty tired of these guys who act like such manly men saying that 3PP is for children who don't understand what a "scary" game is until you play DayZ in 1PP. I personally find 1PP clunky and extremely annoying for several things like melee combat. If you like it, then feel free to use it, just don't shove 1PP down my throat. -
This play-style is a lot more risky than the usual KOS murderer, but I find it to be way more rewarding. DayZ needs more heroes rather than more murderers. Keep it up.
-
I've never been to prison island because it's always camped by bandits. If the loot is worse there, maybe now is a good time for me to head over there and check it out.

A spiked baseball bat has been popularized by a lot of zombie games, but in a real situation it would have a lot of flaws. For one thing, the nails would bend fairly easily, and they would need to be pried up quite a bit. The nails would have a hard time penetrating a skull without bending, which is just a really big hassle. And like others said, the chances of it getting stuck are fairly high, and if you were in a life or death situation, getting the bat stuck would basically be digging your own grave, unless you were skilled at hand to hand combat, in which case you would have a better chance at survival. But if you were fighting off a group of 10 or so zombies and your bat got stuck, you would be left with no weapons. If that happened, you would certainly be wishing you didn't bother hammering nails into your bat.
-
I welcome the zombies being more difficult to kill. It encourages players to group together, rather than being a lone wolf. The lone wolf play-style does still work in the 0.55 update, but it's quite a bit more risky than it used to be, especially if you're in big cities.

I'm a blend of the Medic, the Neutral, and the Neutral Friendly. If I see someone bleeding out or being attacked by a bandit or murderer, I'll help them, but I still use extreme caution. If I enter a city, I'll sneak around and frequently look around in all directions. If I come across someone who needs help, I'll help them, but ultimately my survival is my main concern, and if someone seems hostile, I'll either avoid them or gun them down. In a nutshell, I help people, but I am very careful while doing it.
