You need to extract the files with a program like WinRaR, the files should have .pbo extension once they are extracted. -
Not sure about the 'Connection Failed' issue. Rocket said something about a new patch being released today. Also from twitter: I suggest you wait and try again after some time. Servers are slowly melting because everyone wants to join at the same time.

You need Arma2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 2 to play DayZ. It won't work with just Arma2: Free -
Blue screen is most likely a hardware/driver failure. Make sure your computer isn't overheating and you have the latest drivers. Also note the blue-screen error code (BCcode) as it will help you identify the problem. Once you have the BCcode you can start from there (Google is your friend).

What is the exact error message at the end ? If it says 'You cannot play/edit this mission, it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.dayz_code, dayz_weapons, dayz_equip etc.' you installed the mod incorrectly. If it says "You can not play/edit this mission; it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.cherarus" make sure you launch the game as 'Combined Operations' and NOT 'Operation Arrowhead' when launching from STEAM. The size of the map has nothing to do with server lag, in fact I would like it to be even larger. I agree with increasing the number of zombies though.

Bandits vs Survivors (We should change our mindset..)

I would much more prefer an option of non-lethal weapons as a bandit, something like tranquilizer guns, pepper spray, caltrops, non-lethal ammo, tasers, flashbangs, teargas (+gasmasks), bear traps and more. Weapons that will knock other players unconscious while you go and rob their stuff and at the same time allow them to continue their (miserable) adventure. Not only it would make PvP more satisfying, but also more interesting and challenging than sniping from across the field. -
I'm pretty sure stat search is disabled. You can find your character if you are on the top of the leaderboard, but even then it doesn't tell you much more than you already know (Zombie kills, murders, how long you've been alive for.)

According to the official stats about 13% of alive characters are bandits, so I would assume most people are (more or less) friendly. Personally I teamed up with strangers many times, but never when I had good gear. Too much risk. -

View distance changes depending on the weather, if the day is clear you can see up to 1000m if I am correct.

If you are using STEAM make sure you follow these guidelines: 1. Create a folder in your ArmA II directory. DEFAULT: (C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2) and call it @dayz. 2. Inside that folder create another folder called Addons. 3. Use WinRar or similar program to unpack the rar files you downloaded. 4. Copy the files to your @dayz/Addons folder. 5. Open ArmA II shortcut and add "-nosplash -mod=@dayz;" (without quotes) in the target line.

I noticed some servers are bugged and stop spawning loot and zombies no matter where you are. Nothing you can do about it, just notify the admins and hope for a fix.

Same goes for Elektro and NW Airfield. Every time I see I in chat it brings a smile to my face.

I can confirm this bug, some servers seem stuck and stop respawning loot or zombies as intended.
