How do you interact with others in this game?
cheeseburger8 replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
You're not gay. Just ignore them. :D -
Before I begin, let me just say, I have never played the DayZ Mod, or any mods based off the mod, like Epoch, OverWatch, and OverPoch. However, I have done a LOT of reading on Epoch, and it sounds like fun, w/ the trading, money, etc. I've heard the StandAlone is already based off of Epoch's system (which is totally wrong, whoever told me that, I mean, there's no money in StandAlone!). I wonder if there'll ever be something for StandAlone like Epoch, b/c it sounds like fun, and I've never played it. But also have Normal servers, and Epoch. Ex: DAYZNOTEPOCHSERVER.... Join DAYZEPOCHSERVER....Join Will there ever be an Epoch mode for DayZ StandAlone?

What in the hell is this booming sound in the distance? (video inside)

SLENDERMAN Just kidding, it's the gas station being blown up. Someone blew it up earlier, and whenever people join, it blows up again. -
Yeah, I did. Crap.

I don't get it either, one time I was LAYING on top of a fire while hypothermic, for 5 minutes (really), and I still could not warm up.

Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.
cheeseburger8 replied to Ham_Sandwich27's topic in General Discussion
This is a hard topic to comment on. I'm on both sides of the argument, because having to eat constantly is a pain, and if the game were as realistic as it claims to be, then you wouldn't get hungry every 30 minutes. However, running into other players in DayZ is kind of rare, and killing zombies gets old after a while, so they need to add some other obstacle to make the game less bland. So that's why I'm on both sides, anyone agree? Funny picture, by the way, :D -
As BigMike said, diseases have been confirmed, and among those are Cholera and Dysentery, and I have also heard that you can get these from wearing other player's clothes. As for moving players, that's a good idea. I definitely hope that they do that at some point. Excellent ransom example too, it would make for more intense gameplay as you could ambush said bandits, or you could go through with the ransom and get your guy back, or even better, they give the backpack, and the guy still gets killed.

Why does my screen flash a light shade of blue when getting shot at? (Not trolling, I'm legitimately curious)
cheeseburger8 posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Hey, DayZ Forums, I'm new to the forums and apologize if this is the wrong area to be posting this question in. My question was, whenever I get shot at, if the bullet is relatively close to my head, the screen flashes blue for a second. What is this and what does it mean? I asked my friend Gabe, and he said it's something called "Supression", which I looked up, and only found one forum post about how BF3 doesn't pull off supression well. Does it mean your character is getting scared? Thanks in advance for all replies. :D P.S, if you wanna meet up in DayZ Standalone, message me. I'm a hero, and I have too much food and am looking to give some to people. I'm in Svetlojarsk. :D -
How do I not panic/shake when I get in a gunfight?
cheeseburger8 replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
Now that I'm getting in more and more gunfights, I'm starting to calm down. My very first gunfight, about 5 minutes after I died, I was non-stop shaking, and when I got up I almost fell over b/c my legs were shaking. Today, I was told to put my hands up in Elektro (keep in mind, I had my two buddies Gabe and Red with me), I sprinted away, magnum in hand, fuzzyness going down my legs. After Red sprinted past me (I was going one way, away from the bandit, and he was going torwards the bandit), I had decided to turn around and face the bandit with Red. However, as soon as I turned around, I heard the sound of a shotgun blast and Red fall. The bandit sprinted into some bushes, and this is where I realize that I have never been this calm in a gunfight, I fire 3 magnum shots into the bushes blindly. Evidently, it knocked him unconscious, and Gabe finished him off. Technically, the kill was mine, and Gabe just finished him off (Gabe even said this himself, I'm not selfish or anything). I'm glad I was able to ACTUALLY kill someone who told me to put my hands up. Tip: Never put your hands up, RUN... wait 'till they're distracted!!! -

Thanks everyone for all the replies, they were all helpful. Pilgrim, thank you so much for the awesome reply. Now that I think about it, dying isn't so bad! As a matter of fact, being decked out gets boring after a while (not saying I'm gonna jump off the clock-tower in Novo or anything), but even if I do die, like you said, it's the fun all over again. I find that Pilgrim's post was very helpful (everyone else's was too, but his was very informational and longer), and I really appreciate it. I want to emphasize that EVERYONE ELSE'S POSTS were EXTREMELY helpful, but Pilgrim's was the best reply on a forum that I've gotten, ever. Thank you. :D -

Thanks all for the helpful responses, I'll just remind myself that even if I do die, I get to start over and have fun again. Once again, thanks everyone for all the responses. :D -
I feel like this is a good opportunity for people who have PS4 and don't like/want to put 100's/1000's of dollars into their PC. At the same time however, the game isn't even in Beta, and they're talking about moving it to console?

Oh, wow! Thanks for making a gif to show this! :D That's what I'm talking about, though. When he got shot at, it flashed a grayish-blue. As far as I know, whenever I get shot at, it does the same thing, I think it's the guy getting scared, but it doesn't have any negative effects, like the gun shaking, or excessive breathing, etc. Thanks again for the gif. :D -

I understand that, it's just, it's an effect of the game, and can be seen by anyone if they look hard enough. P.S, Intresting article. :) -

It happens just before you hear the "ptchooo" ricochet noise, like it's whizzing by your head. It's also when Brad is hiding behind the supermarket's left wall, bullets from the apartment's behind are being shot at Brad. It's the most subtle thing though. Make sure to watch in HD to see it clearly. -

I don't have a video recorded at the moment, b/c it's rare that I ever come across a sniper. As far as how blue, it's a very dry blue, like this.
