Tatanko's Monthly Social -- April 2015
Belphegor (DayZ) replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
yes. i assume 0.55 will hit stable by then? if so we have a whole new threat to worry about, landmine trolling >:( -
not a good dayz.. i only played for an hour and died 3 times . and hacking seems to be back, even worse than before i joined the grumpy old gamers private server, i hadn't played on this one in a while and was a bit suprised when i spawned with decent gear, a cr rifle, longhorn, plenty of ammo and everything else i need to survive. not knowing my exact position i ran around for a bit and found a town, just as i enter it and i'm crouched behind a wall i see a player running right on the other side of it, he pops behind the corner, i aimed my gun at him.. but he had his gun on his back so i hold fire. i think desync screwed me over here because he shot me anyways.. 2 shots, gunsmoke appearing in front of the guy but no weapon in his hands.. i manage to fire off 1 shot but died immediatly after that. i spawn on the beach on a patch of rocks so the first thing i do is search for a stone and craft a knife, while i'm doing this i hear a shot.. there was a guy in a pink raincoat firing flares a few dozen meters away, he saw me and aimed his gun at me.. i put my hands up and start walking away and i lost sight of him. i was looking around with the alt key when suddenly the guy is standing right in front of me. then he just drops most of his gear.. i did not expect that.. he had a drybag full of ammo and a protector case. no food, no weapon.. just ammo. every single slot. i look up just in time to see the guy running off into the bushes. then all of the sudden my character started equipping a pink raincoat, backpack, mosin with LRS,.. and i wasn't the one doing it! f*ing hacker.. well, i know what's going to happen next and i don't want to give him the pleasure so i put the mosin to my head and pulled the trigger this time i respawn near elektro or cherno and i run straight for the buildings hoping to gear up fast. i found a rifle almost immediatly and i hadn't heard any signs of activity yet.. then someone fired a mosin very close to my position. i crouched inside a building and waited for a minute or 2 aaaaand.. then i get hit by an axe. no-one around, i'm alone in the room. i get hit a second time and die. i switched to a public server.. the character i have on public is pretty fresh, just an empty drybag and an sks with 7 rounds that i recuperated off my body after a run in with a KOS guy last time i played.. i just went looting for some food, got energized and hydrated and called it a day. after today i'm seriously considering just shooting anything that moves before it can hack or kill lol
-
he could have bounced the grenade off the wall. or maybe hacking.. seems like there have been a lot of reports popping up in the past few days about hacks involving explosions, mainly carpet bombing entire areas. i had the 'luck' to see this happen in game last saturday, raBit posted some impressive pics in this thread -> http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222759-tatankos-spring-bbq-the-aftermath/

no point in staying on the coast on a populated server.. either you starve to death or you become target practice. you don't really need gear to get inland.. just start running. check whatever structures on your way for warm clothing or anything useful. sprint to stay warm until you find matches. take a few minutes to gather apples from an apple tree or berries from a bush and have a drink from a pond, just enough to get to the small towns a few kilometers from the coast.. there you should find enough stuff to get going, the further west you go the more likely you'll find an untouched place. even in already looted buildings there is always stuff that got left behind or was overlooked.. ammo is easy to miss, especially loose rounds and the white 7.62x51 ammo box is easily confused for a sewing kit. not many people take the time to check underneath beds and tables for example where loot also spawns. i never really needed medical supplies apart from rags or bandages (just tear up a shirt) as for weapons, if you want a military weapon you'll be hunting magazines, ammo and attachments for more than a few hours and you'll have to take big risks to search the hotspots that spawn them. but normal weapons are everywhere.. underneath those blue trailers, barns (especially in the more remote areas that no-one bothers visiting because there's nothing else of interest nearby). the small log cabin with yellow and blue paint almost always spawns a civ. weapon next to the bed. and again, don't rush through the rooms but look carefully for those 'hidden' ammo boxes and loose rounds. when i first started playing it also took me hours to get armed but once you know where to look you can get a loaded weapon within 30 minutes from spawning if luck is on your side. the most important thing to remember is that this game isn't really about machine gun firefights, but about the road towards the inevitable shootout and surviving. the shootout itself is just a way to start anew after reaching endgame (getting the gear you want).. dayz is a very time consuming survival game, not counter strike. 3 hours is nothing in dayz

nice! that explosion in the 7th pic from the bottom looks really great
-
1, a location with a clear view of the surroundings. it wasn't bad at first but all the chopped trees made very good hiding spots for whoever attacked us. they got very close to us before opening fire lol 2, fine for me 3, i liked how everyone was armed yet no-one shot eachother (in the first hour).. i'm suprised it lasted that long. that server is crazy.. so much killing.. while running back to the party after the incident i saw maybe 8 fresh spawns in under 5 minutes. got knocked out by a guy who wasn't wearing pants but a brave man with a broom saved me then we ate poison berries and another fresh spawn stole a bag of rice so we kill him then another guy runs up and starts punching. it never ends. i didn't make it back. i had a lot of fun tonight i'm looking forward to the next event

how? that's a lot of stuff to carry.. and the pumpkins.. they probably dumped it somewhere nearby
-
well, it was bound to happen sometime.. i couldn't make out who was who so i never fired a shot.. took shelter in the cabin and some guy with a pistol walked in killing me and another guy it was fun tho, good party while it lasted. i'm going back too

30 minutes i think

i have a character on the island with 2 flare guns (but only 3 flares), 5 beers and materials to make an improvised backpack or fire. i just hope we can join the server in a few hours, it's already full.. i've also seen some clan activity near the island on the european server, rolled right past them with a truck.. you might get visitors tonight :)

just a question.. has anyone actually managed to kill an animal? the AI still seems screwy all the animals flee when i'm still very far away from them.. they must have heard Tatanko was organizing a bbq.. i gathered some fishing gear hopefully i can catch some fish next time
-
good! i'll gather some suplies for the event. ammo for your security team (you got one right?), bottled water, maybe some fish or meat, flares... my charcacters name is jimmy bongwater don't shoot me :P
-
nice initiative, i'll show up if i can. as for my suggestion, fireworks show. (flare guns) (lots and lots of them)
-
ah. "animals" :D got tired of eating canned beans every day eh?

last time i logged out inside a prison cell on the new island, so i hopped on a low pop server to swim back to the mainland. there were only 2 other people on the server so i took this opportunity to have some target practice. i gathered a bunch of ammo and magazines and an ak-74-u (one of many laying around in that place) and spent a good while firing rounds at trees on the other side of the water.. eventually i started swimming off the island with my sks on my back. feels weird leaving so much military loot and weapons behind, but i could only carry one and i prefer a bolt action over an automatic rifle. almost halfway across the water i heard the sound of a truck closing in.. and soon i spotted it driving almost right under me on the bottom of the ocean.. theres only 1 other player on the server at this moment and ofc we end up at the same location again . i turned around, stole the poor chap's truck while he was looting the prison, and cruised across chernarus knowing that the only threat (besides the glitchy truck) was now stuck on prison island. i made it as far as NW airfield where i found a makarov with some mags and more ammo for the sks. i ditched the truck and did some more target practice on zeds in the nearby villages before i logged off (had to make some room in the backpack, picked up way to much ammo) the near-empty server was a nice change from always having to be on guard, still i can't wait to get back on a higher populated one next time.. dayz isn't really dayz without that feeling that trouble could be waiting behind every corner
-
i think it has something to do with the server/latency/desync. a while ago i had the same situation when crafting a stone knife, it took maybe 10 attempts before it worked. a little while later it happened again when i was trying to skin a cow and eventually gave up on it.. i changed servers, found a new animal to kill and it worked without problems. may i ask how you managed to kill an animal? their AI seems a bit sensitive in 0.54.. i want one of those leather jackets :)

Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
Belphegor (DayZ) replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
i'm not looking to make a working improvised surpressor :) i have a factory-made one already. i wasn't really expecting it to work either. just curious what the result would have been if done dayz-style. and you're right, should have made a hole at the end -
Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
Belphegor (DayZ) replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
well.. i just tested the plausability of this improvised supressor by winding a plastic bottle with tape and taping it to the end of a .22 rifle IRL the bottle violently flew off the end of the rifle. the bullet hit the target, yet on the bottle the hole massive gap was located on the side of the bottle (the cylindrical part). i also got a mean amount of smoke and residue in my face that came from the chamber area not doing that again edit: it was loud -
who's seen the abandoned soviet underground bases?
Belphegor (DayZ) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
i remember that.. i believe this was before the suicide option was added to the game. i never went back to those bunkers after that time i had to wait until my character starved to death at the bottom of the pit. nice to know this is fixed now -
i've had this happen a few updates ago. i also read something on the forums about this long ago, i believe it's a pretty rare bug. few days ago i nearly got run over by a jet-powered cow that was trying to break the landspeed record. funny shit

went from skalisty island to prison island last night :) not sure how i even got those 2 mixed up as they look radically different from the coast.. i followed the coastline and went straight past kamy trough the woods since i didn't really need anything. i've had a bit too much travelling trough forests in the past few days so i decided to go straight through elektro and cherno to make things a bit more exciting. i made it to a log cabin about 100m from the police station in the north of town and was looking down the street for signs of trouble when i spotted a guy in green sneaking around on the roof of the police station, as i was observing i heard shots nearby and the guy in green immediately retreated inside, i assume he was the one being shot at.. after 5 minutes of silence i continued, i crossed an intersection with a small obstacle (not sure what it was) standing in the middle of it when i saw someone coming from behind the corner, i crouched behind the object but he was running right for me. i had to do something.. so i jumped up and aimed my repeater at him. it was the guy in green.. he only had a fireaxe on his back. i told him to stop and he did, he was obviously a bit shaken, i think he didn't know i was there until i pushed a gun in his face. i assured him i didn't wat to shoot him and he warned me about a guy nearby, i told him i heard the shots. we were now sitting in the middle of the intersection awkwardly looking around waiting to get shot so we greeted and parted ways. cool guy. it seems like every friendly person i meet in dayz is german, germans are awesome. i made it safely to west elektro and was passing behind the buildings northwest of the firestation when i heard more shooting, a mosin i think. it sounded very close this time, probably someone held up in the buildings nearby taking shots at whoever went near the fire station. i carefully searched the row of buildings hoping to swap my repeater for said mosin but there was no-one to be found. when i was going through the last building more shots were fired, a .22 this time. i decided it was time to move on, i legged it to cherno zig-zagging the first part of the way. suprisingly cherno seemed deserted. made it through without incidents. at this time the server started acting weird, shortly after it went offline an didn't came back. i joined a low-pop server (7 players) to avoid getting gunned down while swimming to the island. it was nighttime here and took the opportunity to loot balota airfield where i switched the repeater for an sks with pu-scope. i remembered i had a flare gun wasting space in my improvised backpack since svetlo. 2 seconds later literally the entire town of balota and part of the airfield was filled with a strong red glow. amazing. still, i couldn't shake the feeling that someone must have seen that so i ran a bit further down the coast and started swimming in the cover of darkness. the prison was a bit of a creepy experience at night.. when i got there i made sure i was alone before starting to loot. still, having to open all these creeking doors made me increasingly paranoid. this did not improve when i found a ruined backpack with some ammo and food in it. anyways, the amount of loot in that place is just.. wow. multiple mp-5's, ak74's ak74-u's, drum mags, heaps of attachements and much more. i only made it through 2 buildings before the server crashed and called it a day

today i continued my second attempt to visit prison island. the last time i played the bugged compass sent me to the northern edge of the map. so i have a bit of a walk ahead of me.. i followed the coast for a good while looting some buildings along the way hoping to find a mosin because i had a lot more ammo for it thn i had for my repeater. when i came up on the beached shipwreck i went inland a bit and took a break, made fire and ate some of the food that was littering my backpack. i felt confident enough to travel to komarov without using the map from there, i threw the compass in a pond and set off. i wandered out of a big forrest that i didn't remember being there when i finally reached the coast near the island. i took some time to scope the place out, everything seamed clear. i had come across some repeaters, handguns (no mags) and the new trumpet (which i unfortunatly couldn't try out because i found no .22 ammo nearby), but no mosin so if i got into trouble the old repeater was all i could rely on. i started swimming, and i remember thinking how it's weird that none of what i saw looked like the pictures of prison island that i have seen on the forums. but i disregarded my thoughts and soon arrived at the beach. knowing that this is a major hotspot of player activity i was very carefull making my way up the slopes and then.. ruins?.. "i feel like i've been here before".. a quick look at the map confirmed that i was on skalisty island. my navigational skills have failed me once again

Best tactic in dealing with zombies?
Belphegor (DayZ) replied to Lunatic_fringe420's topic in New Player Discussion
strafing when the zombie starts it's attack animation followed by a well aimed blow to the head works well enough for me, then keep bashing the head when it's down if it's not kill yet. but i i admit i also struggled with it when i first got the game. you kindof need to develop a 'feel' for it to know where to aim. the distance from you to the zombie is very important, calculate the length of your weapon into your distance from the target or the hit might not register if you strike with the wooden part of a shovel for example what penguin said about breaking lign of sight also works very well :) i suggest next time you spawn fresh you waste a character or 2 just punching things in the head for fun and practice :) -
