  1. Helpful guide on how to install both normal and the experimental versions of DayZ at the same time. Whats the benefit of this - well the queue to change between the two modes is quite large at the moment with vehicles just been introduced and anyone with a slow connection speed will certainly see this as a large benefit. There are two stages: Stage 1 is obtaining both normal and experimental and you will need to find the Steam directory folder. Dont panic here is a quick way to get to it. Right click your steam shortcut,right click and go to properties then open file location. Scroll up to steamapps folder. Now go to the common folder. Go to the DayZ Folder. Make a copy and call the copy DayZ - Stable. Now download the DayZ Experimental. Once done go back to our steam directory and now have DayZ Stable and DayZ Experimental folders. Rename the DayZ folder the DayZ Experimental. Here we go so clearly we have DayZ Stable and DayZ Experimental. Stage 2. Lets load one up as an example. You'l be doing this every time you want to switch between the two modes. The process is pretty much the same so for as the example lets load up the experimental. Right click DayZ in your steam games library and select delete local content. Usually this would uninstall the game but because we have renamed both folders it cannot locate where DayZ is. so nothing is uninstalled. We are going to load the experimental but for whichever one you want to load simply rename that folder back to DayZ. Then go to the steam games library, right click the game properties. Go to the beta section and tell it which one you are installing. So we are doing experimental so lets click op it the experimental. And click install game. It will say Discovering Existing Files. You will need to do this rename folder, delete local content and change the op in status for every time you do this and the only loading time is this discovering existing files. Okay we're ready to rock! Once you get the hang of it you can save yourself the 15 minutes of steam uploading and downloading the different versions for you! See you out there! Why don't people fish more? =D Fishing has been out for a while but not many players have tried it so while the DayZ dev team work on fixing the loot spawning bugs Fishing gives you the ability to fend for yourself in the wilderness with nothing more than a fishing rod and a fireplace. To Craft a fishing rod you will need an axe, a fishing hook, a rope and a shovel or garden hoe to dig up the earthworms. For the cooking stage you will need to create a fireplace which will require an axe, rags, matches and to prepare the fish a sharp blade like a kitchen knife, machete or bayonet. I'l post a link on the screen here and in the description for the more detailed video guide on how to create a campfire. First step to craft the rod you will need an Ashwood stick, these can be gather by cutting down an Ashwood tree with your axe with your axe. These short trees have a white trunk with far reaching branches. They can be found along the shore lines and even inside the main cities too. Once you have your ashwood stick you need to combine it with rope. Select the second option craft improvised fishing rod. Next step is to get some bait by digging up some earthworms. Place the shovel in your hands and select dig for worms. Travel over to a lake or pond. Not the sea, this wont work in the sea. Now combine your earthworms with the fishing hook and you can see the bait is attached! Drag and drop the baited fishing hook onto the fishing rod and your ready! Approach the edge of a pond and look for the ‘start fishing’ option. Click ‘start fishing’ and your player will cast the line into the pond. You will see two options in your scroll-wheel menu: ‘Check the bait’ and ‘pull out”. Wait about 20-30 second and check the line. You'l receive the messages: ‘I sense no movement near the bait’ ‘There is some movement near the bait’ ‘Something is cautiously examining the bait’ ‘Something has just bit the bait!’ As soon as you see the red message ‘Something has just bit the bait!’ it is time to hit the ‘pull out’ option. If you don’t do it quickly enough, the fish will escape. There is a knack to the whole process and practice makes perfect so for your first time you’ll need to make sure you have a lot of worms. so here is my first fish! You gotta love the artwork in this game. They do a lot of great work but the artwork, that artwork is dam cool. Take the tasty fishy over to the fire, bring out your kitchen knife and combine it with the fish. Select prepare fish. Place your fish on the fire, wait until changed from Raw to cooked!   4. Today I'm going to be showing you how to grow your own tomatoes, yes harvesting has arrived! As of the 0.50 patch we now have tomatoes seeds implemented into the game which we can plant and grow. Along with the 0.50 patch came item persistence testing. Its still a bit clunky you can end up on a server with too much loot or a server with hardly anything at all. If its the latter and your struggling to find food - this is a really effective way to keep your character from going hungry and at the same time continue to loot. Your going to need these items - shovel or garden hoe, tomato seeds and garden lime fertilizer is optional as it just decreases the growth time. If your not sure where to look all of these items tend to be in the same areas but are very common items can be found in cities, industrial areas and all along the coast line. The shovel can even go in your large bag pack should you not want to drop your precious axe. Approach a 1 of the thousand greenhouses on the map with the items in your inventory,. Place the shovel or garden hoe in your hands and select dig. You can dig up to 20 slots so you can even feed your friends as each tomato plant yields 13 tomatoes. Okay now you should have your slots dug up. If you managed to gather a bag of garden lime fertilizer use this now. Straight onto the next stage, take your tomato seeds and place these into each individual slot you've dug up. There are several different stages to the growth and if you added garden lime it can take up to 8 minutes and without garden lime can take up to 16 minutes until your able to pick your plants but after you have planted to seeds you don't need to do anything but wait. If your a new spawn I would suggest you continue to loot around if not stand guard as other players also have the ability to steal your harvest. Here we go our first tomato plant is ready. Once they are fully grown pick your crops simply by selecting the option. Again each tomato plant yields 13 tomatoes so at least you'l have one your characters needs tended to.   5. After discovering a recent patch has destroyed Balota's Military encampment I wanted to show you all the location of the secret Military base. The reason we say secret Military base is because the base has no roads leading into it and didn't exist on Arma 2's DayZ Mod. The base is located in the middle of the map near the road connecting Kabanio and Vybor. The easiest route looking at the south coast is from Cherno. This might be handy to you all since majority of the spawns are still on the south coast. Its the most efficient route because its pretty much one road with a police station, supermarkets and water stops along the way. Its going to be good idea to get geared up but your going to need base supplies too as the distance between Cherno and the military base is 5,500m but there is really good loot at the base and defiantly worth while. All the useful bits here to for you - Supermarkets, Water pumps, the police station and there are plenty of small shelters to make a fire as you'l see in the video. So our group traveled north from Cherno along this road. When you get to the T junction you can either head left to Rogovo or right to Stary Sobor. If your running low of food like we were Stary is your best bet. Once at Rogovo simply head north. If your at Stary head west to Kabano and head west again to the large field with the Secret Military base. As you can see lots of loot. Large Back packs, weapons and plenty ammunition to go around!   6. This month has seen 3 experimental patches, so there's a lot to cover and if you enjoy DayZ as much as I do then you don't want to miss out on the changes. Peter lead game designer has suggested the changes will go live on stable servers shortly but what do these patches include? For me two big changes - the first being Farming, the ability of harvesting crops using the fixed greenhouses. This en tales digging soil with a shovel or garden hoe, fertilizing the soil, planting the seeds that then grow into crops. Once ripe you are then able to pick the tomato plants. Currently only tomato plants exist but different plants will be added in the future. I'm really happy they have introduced farming, its seems small but its another great 'survival aspect' of the game. The next big thing is the first step towards Barricading. Barricading doors has been discussed with developers for a very long time and now we’re finally seeing how this new system is going to work. As of right now, if you’re lucky enough to find a ‘Lockpick’ in the experimental, you can use it to lock and unlock it any of the doors currently in DayZ. The potential for this system is big, effectively you could lock down houses, police or fire stations. Prevent zombies or players from doing you harm. For all you bandit people out their I'm sure you'l love locking players into the prison jail cell lol but keep in mind Doors can be also unlocked with brute force. Their senior designer also gives us a hint into their testing of alternative user interface changes. He says "Horizontally oriented inventory uses better screen space of nowadays 16:9 monitors. This layout reduces the necessity to scroll through the inventory to a minimum and doesn't obscure the view on a players character or its surroundings. Players has better overview of the items they posse and time for all management of loot is significantly reduced. Inventory is fully modular so it even fits on a 4:3 screen and offers future possibilities to be even organize by players themselves. All slot sizes are the same throughout the whole of the UI - so players are always sure whether the item fits in the slot or not. A Player can choose whether he wants to have the avatar panel on left or right side of the screen and can also organize the order of containers.". I'm not sure if that's a bad screenshot but personally I dont like that layout. Maybe it will be developed more or Maybe it will grow on me if implemented. Other smaller upcoming changes are: New weapons MP-133 shotgun, R92, more additions to the AK family - AK-74 and the AKS-74U. Chicken feathers can now be obtained from the chicken coop. All you Daryl Dixon fans will like this because you need chicken feathers to craft arrows for the crossbow and ashwood shortbow. Ducktape fixes more things. More bagpacks, including a waterproof bagpack and so much more. Really happy with the DayZ Dev team progress seems a lot of big and small things coming.     How To Find Secret Military Base w/ Map | DayZ Standalone Tips

    I understand what your saying Tatanko and I completely accept that this video was really made for the steam community forums and not advanced players that are here on this forums. When I made this video there was at least 20 new topics asking for a route to one of the military bases. They were obviously frustrated with the game. I really enjoy playing DayZ but many people are put off by the bugs and slow progress. My thought is if we all, DayZ players who are still in the game help spread the energy and keep people interested then we'l all be better off. Failing that I enjoy the making the videos and as long as 1 person finds this useful I'm happy! Thanks for the replies anyhow.
  9. I've looted the whole of the south coast but not a single sign of a gun. So I thought this would be a great opportunity to show you guys that if you get in this predicament too you'l now know how to craft the next best thing - improvised bow and arrows. The 0.50 patch dropped recently and along with it the item persistence testing. So you either find servers are loaded or have nothing - unless you venture into the mainland. Before you travel in land you may choose to get yourself reasonably armed by crafting a bow and arrow! Firstly you want to find yourself an axe, rope and kitchen knife or machete. Once done you'l then be looking out for an Ashwood tree. They are smaller trees with bushy green leaves, and have a pale white or light grey trunk. You can find them on the outskirts of Electro and Cherno or in this case in Electro itself. By chopping them down with an axe, they yield normal sticks and Ashwood Sticks. Combine the Ashwood stick with the rope and select craft improvised bow. Right so now we have our improvised bow. Time to make some improvised arrows. Split the tree logs into stick thirds by using the axe. Then we drag the knife or machete over the sticks and select "sharpen stick". The 0.50 patch also made it so you can find chicken feathers simply by searching a chicken coops. Chicken coops are pretty much everywhere. Search them and 7/10 times you'l find a chicken feather. Combine the chicken feather with the sharpen stick and select the craft improvised arrow. Now your ready to rock. Silent, deadly and if you headshot a zombie you'l take him down in one. Also the good thing about them is that if you miss your shot you can pick the arrow back up! Their range is about 100m or less but that increases if you load composite arrows. They can often be found in houses. Hope that helps you guys!
  10. OH NO I TOLD EVERYONE THE SECRET PASSWORD! Blue Collarhero here in the city of Svet up on the north coast. If your wondering what I'm doing - I'm guarding the church door while my buddies behind me ready up. They asked me to keep guard and should anyone not say the secret password of MONKEYFUCKER I'm to shoot them on sight... lol. Anyway what I wanted to discuss with you all is the thoughts on the limp animation that is incoming. For those of you who haven't seen the preview of it yet here it is. Looks pretty cool eh but how practical is it and how will it effect gameplay? I always like to include the realistic aspect in these discussions, realism after all is what all survival games should be striding to achievement. Initially I'm thinking yes this limp animation is a brilliant idea but the one thing they haven't said is at what stage will the limp animation affect you. Will you start limping when the "leg is in pain" message appears or perhaps it will affect you when your leg is broken, instead of simply falling to the ground which currently happens now. I know the game designers and also excited about the concept. Here is what Viktor leader animator said in a recent status report: "Last weeks we had many discussions about some great stuff coming to the game. One I am most excited about is the injured player also known as limping animations already showed a while ago. It wasn't the right time to bring this to the game yet because it is very tied to many systems and most of the default animations have to be done and finalized first. We have agreed on how many injured stages there will be and also we would like to represent some illnesses with an animations like cough, sneeze, fever and more. To be clear this is something we won't get sooner then sometime next year. But I'm sure it's worth the wait." He briefly mentioned about the timing of the limp animation and I like the idea that it wont be beating vehicles being added to the game.     Its the 5th of November, Bonfire night in the UK and whats the best thing about Bonfire night? All the fireworks! Unfortunately I've discovered that in Northern Ireland you need to have a license so I've had to miss out BUT my good buddy Chubz is making it up to me by taking me to the gas station in Vybor with a grenade in hand.

  14. If you read the DayZ status reports you'l see the big and little DayZ developments. However DayZ and steam forums users are now demanding that the developers add something other than vehicles and base building to be included into the game as soon as possible. Whats the option they are asking for? Well its a suicide option. The only mention of the option so far is from the official DayZ trailer that released on 16th December 2013 which shows a female character committing suicide with a handgun. Do you agree with this option to be added or not? Many users against the option have pointed out that DayZ is a survival game and the fact you are playing the game means that you have already enrolled yourself to take on that sense of realism of a predefined choice to play as a survivor. survivor being the key word. However players for the option argue that the implementation of the suicide button is practical to the game and will simply allow them to easily choose a spawn closer to their friends. I have to agree we all know there is nothing worse than an hour's run all the way down south of the map to your friends because the game has spawned you way up north! Currently in DayZ Mod many servers have the "/killme" option. Personally I like my gameplay to be as realistic as possible and to immerse myself in the game but I must admit I have used it once. I had to rush back to my body after the server d-syncing and I crashed into a tree.. so I felt the server owed me one allowing me to use the 'exploit' command. Exploit might not be the right word but personally I would side with the argument against the option, I believe you should play from where the server randomly spawns you. Following the DayZ Standalone trailer I'm sure its difficult to say they can't add it to the game. If you have already played for a few hours you will have certainly seen those litters of dead bodies around a high jump location. So you'l find players are going to do it anyway but maybe it will come at a cost or plenty like Longer re-spawn timer or take off damage of loot left behind.   15. This is a question still being thrown out on the steam community forums so thought I'd help spread this simple method - How to change your in-game name. (Yes my character is Asian. This is how I roll.) In a patch they changed your username from being tied to your steam account name to being a name exclusive to DayZ. You will have noticed that it has probably changed to your real name because it pulled your DayZ name from whatever your windows account name is. If your like me and you want to use your in-game call sign, e.g Blue Collarhero - you can very easily change this by going to your main menu and left clicking the name in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. It now changes to a text box where you can change it. This is pretty useful, you can change your name a few times and you will keep your character, I've tested this a few times and its safe. Its good that its still a popular because it means that DayZ Standalone is still receiving new players, which is a good sign so I hope this helps someone out there!   16. If you're like me, someone who keep up-to-date with the DayZ Standalone status reports you'l be pleased to read the latest news! As usual the report mentioned animation, programming and artwork with various amount of fixes and optimization of existing game content. However the big reads for me in the report is vehicle creation is in final stages to the artwork department but the big one for me is from Peter / Lead Designer who states: "We also opened discussion which will help us to outline construction design and it's mechanics. We are analyzing what's possible and where the borders are so we can decide upon crucial things like how they will be placed - freely or grid based? What the granularity of objects will be - down to logs, whole walls or perhaps complete floors? How the crafting of these objects will be done - just a recipe or actually stacking. There are many important things which will define player experience of creating, using and ambushing bases." He is also covering Weather impact, harvesting crops, simple barricading and Animal and zombie AI. In the report they also reveal a map showing the concentration of player deaths within a 12 hour period. As you can see, the expected large amount of player deaths occur along the player spawn points. However, what is increasingly fascinating is the large spread of unique player deaths across the map. I'm really happy to read that base building and harvesting have entered into the design stages and that vehicles will hopefully be out soon. Anyone who has played the mod will understand how enjoyable base building can be. I think that the game is showing real potential and some promising features coming in the future. I cant wait to keep reading those dayz reports I really like reading of the games growing development.     How To Find A Tent! | DayZ Standalone Tips

    Tents are still relatively new to DayZ Standalone and were introduced in the experimental patch .47. You want to be looking in the town north of Cherno to the apartment towers. There are about 20 apartment towers. You want to be heading to the second to top floor and hopefully you'l see one of these! Other reported spawn locations are the deer stands but I think this is the best bet as all the towers are close to each other. Developers have suggested that there is only a 5% chance of finding a tent however this will percentage will grow as more patches are applied to the game! Personally I'm looking forward to vehicles and they Rocket and the developers have announced that those will be coming soon! The tents are dam rare but once found can be easily pitched and hold up to 63 items. The trick of course is finding one! If you hear of any other spawn locations please post a comment below! Once you have your tent you'l be sitting comfortably at the end of the world so get searching. See you out there!

    Dean 'Rocket' Hall Q&A | EuroGamer 2014 DayZ

    YOUTUBE VIDEO LINK: Last weekend we attended Euro Gamer 2014 in London. PC players like myself were feeling a little let down whilst Console kiddies got their thrill - but on the last closing bell creator of DayZ - Dean Rocket Hall, arrived to give a 40min Q&A to fans! He covered a lot of DayZ Standalone plans from training animals as pets to being able to construct bases. He also confirmed that vehicles are in the making and will be released soon! He also spoke about their priority on dealing with hacking in the game when asked by my good buddy Chubz. After the Q & A When we met Rocket - I told him how much I loved the game enjoyed watching the development and my girlfriend Queenie asked him about any thoughts on DLC when the game is released. He confirmed that a DLC Western map idea had been thrown around that they were going to open DayZ to mod in spirit with DayZ originally being a mod from Arma2. The recording is about 40 minutes long but it is a good watch and I think the only recording of it. Enjoy!
