Also, would a grenade kill utterly ruin everything the person had on him? -

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
doomdude1 replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
So, not 100% if these issues are glitches or intended features, but I'm still running 0.49 stable and no update came AFAIK. - Character loses breath if zooming in without a weapon - Character loses breath very quickly for no reason (took me several minutes of jogging to get winded on one server, on another I got winded by jogging across the street. Both servers: Energized and Hydrated) - Zombies started detecting me very high above them - Zombies started detecting me through non-see-through windows - Zombies started detecting me if I am just near them, behind them, stationary. - Zombie aggro just all out bonkers -
8) Hypocrisy: Please don't break the rules to stop other rule breakers, or to prove a point. Just because they did it, doesn't mean you can do it as well, nor should you evade a ban to prove a 'point'. 9) Unnecessary posts: Posting "don't care", "alpha", "TLDR", "search before you post", "cool story bro", 'fanboy' or any posts along those lines are unnecessary, inflammatory, and/or do not add to the discussion. This includes memes, GIFs and other images that are unnecessary/non-constructive; please keep them to an absolute minimum. If a duplicate thread exists, report it to the moderation team with a link. Here's something for you. OT: I agree. I have a characer who is hauling three pistols just trying to find a mag that fits one. #hoarder

Well, hire trusty guards. Back in the ol' lawless times, travelling merchants were jolly with red cheeks... and several non-smilling men in hard leather with swords watching your every move. Here are the ways I play DayZ: a) The 3rd P char is the "serious" one with high-tier gear and I use him to team up with my clan and we (will) go as the UN and provide aid. He sits on the western part of the map and on empty servers, due to me being a hoarder and not wanting to get shot in the face while trying to give some idiot a can of beans. b) The 1st P char is the "rip and run" guy. I use him for PvP and for dangerous servers, I go on populated servers and see what happens, if he dies no tears are shed. And that's it. That's all there is to DayZ currently. You either hoard gear until you get a strong group of people or you run like mad and crave interaction. /circlejerk

Zod has a point though, let's calmly and as objectively as possible analyze the current situation. If we divide the game into two different aspects, let's call them "Action" and "Adventure". Action: - Fast-paced shootouts - Quick high-risk, high-reward situations - Constant interaction with players (albeit violent) - The adrenaline rush from firefights feels good - Shorter time requirement alltogether, as you loot corpses or high spawn areas - Smaller subjective map, you frequent two or three towns constantly - Some consider it "less serious" and do it on throwaway characters - Less attachment to your gear, as you can and will lose it within two hours Adventure: - Long and tough fight for survival - Slow paced trekking around the countryside - Much more immersion when looting - Less interaction but more chances of friendly interaction - A good feeling from the constant struggle for survival - The entire map is open to you and you utilize all of the features of the game - You worked hard for your gear and you are greatly attached to it - Considered "serious" as the longer you survive the more it will suck when you die Now, I am not advocating either style of playing. I play the "Action" style on 1st person servers when I don't have a solid 2h+ chunk of time to hike around and I go around and outfit my character around the countryside on 3rd person servers. The main argument I have spotted on this forum and in the game is between extreme advocates of the styles. One get called "CoD kiddies" and "shooting freaks" others get called out for "loving to do a virtual hike" and "no-life losers". The thing is, both aspects make the game but currently they are very difficult to combine. With the ease of access to decent gear near spawns you get quick and localized combat. However, with the removal of that, you lose a huge chunk of players (read: profits) and only have the "trekking simulator" crowd. So, what I think should be done, based on what I've seen from my extensive WarZ and basic DayZ mod experience is this... Leave it as it is, just work on eventually increasing player count on the server. You'll never get a map where you have an N amount of players scouring the entire server for loot and interacting with each other in small backwater towns. There will always be a crowd firefighting in big cities, and that's okay. Because, the guys who go around for days on end exploring the map will eventually be the mysterious "Lone Rangers" of DayZ. Fully equipped with a ton of experience and with a plethora of tricks up their sleeve, due to the fact their characters last for days on end. To draw a comparisson, think about it this way, Metro 2033 or STALKER, you have the general population who is sort-of armed and numerous, but inexperienced. Then you have the Rangers/Stalkers, lonesome figures of great skill and equipment. That's what will happen and you should be happy about it, whichever path you choose. You either get constant adrenaline rushes or wise survival, it's a win-win.

Cheaper/ Better Off Buying a Rig For This Game or Building One?
doomdude1 replied to SelectandStart's topic in Technology/Programming
As Mos1ey said, don't buy a pre-made one. They make money off of housewives and people too busy/uninterested to look for parts so they toss in their own custom motherboards and soundcards, which fizzle and f*ck things up. Get a tech savvy friend or just do it yourself, go online and browse, browse and browse, look at the price, compatibility, power requirements, noise, read forums and articles. It sounds like a hassle and it took my friend and me over 2 months to upgrade my rig. We overhauled everything except one hard drive for a total of 700 euros and that was two years ago. The hard work paid off as I can still run everything on ultra high. It pays off, trust me, just invest time. -
The only interaction I've had was with a random baseball wielding man. My baton won.

I am just too lazy. That's it, that's all. Just too lazy to hike for 20m to get to an empty town.

Legal issues? That's completely fine and I accept that, it's a business after all. I love the fact I got a straight answer instead of a long-winded, pseudo-moral speech. You get my beans.

More Spray Pain Color Options For Latter Please! :)
doomdude1 replied to Deathlove's topic in Suggestions
Baby steps first, I suppose. They should make all realistic items colourable with the available spray paints, then expand from there. -
I don't see why it would be wrong to implement very tough-to-kill child zombies. What, the fall of civilization is too mild to accept that, guess what, everyone dies? I don't condone rape or other activities as something that should be portrayed, but come on. Don't soft-step around a zombie post-apocalyptic game then become a prune when it comes to child zombies.

I'm utterly amused at the amount of people who actually considered golden-looking weapons to be actually made of gold. Also, yeah, sure, add it at a 1/100th of the spawning rate of the corresponding weapon. Remember, stupid Survivors aren't long-term Survivors.

I'd also like to be able to apply spraypaint to items which can realisticallybe painted, such as backpacks and similar. Though, for balancing reasons I can see several spray cans being needed to paint a backpack (even though IRL it would take less than one, everyone would have dark green/black backpacks straight off, need to make it less available). Also, spraypainted weapons, cool, but for the love of Zod, no "Youth Muddy Girl Camo". If I saw that crap in-game, it's KOS. -
Trust me... you don't want to do that. < WarZ since Alpha
-
The smartest thing to do would be to make your shots count and your positioning to be pristine. Also, yes it's an alpha, but Jesus, that isn't an excuse for everything. I won't complain about polishing or features, but you can't just defend core stuff like hitboxes which are innaccurate or stay in an area you just left with "alpher", some stuff just has to work, since the game was willingly put out to be sold. That being said, I still enjoy playing a lot.

doomdude1 replied to corn_ho_lio's topic in General Discussion
You can open cans with knives, bayonets, screwdrivers and scythes, although you will suffer a loss in the percentage that gets left (between 40-10% or something). Other than that, try and eat sardines (they don't require a tool to open), fresh produce and cereal. -
One (type of) server, one character, one life
doomdude1 replied to roguetrooper's topic in Suggestions
One of the things I loved about WarZ was the fact you had multiple characters (and a global inventory). You could have a character or two for serious gameplay with your friends or a clan and just have a one to f*ck about with, try new tactics or just do some light-hearted surviving and not have to lose everything once you die. One of the main reasons I stopped playing DayZ several months ago (though I started playing again) was that I managed to get two fully geared characters and realized any gameplay would result me in losing my maxed out military loot and that I was sentenced to just scavenging for food or looking for a fight.
