Ok but your implication is that something is wrong with the players for doing this. I guess this is where I'm confused as it is clearly a design flaw you are referencing, but you seem to be chastising players for this. If your focus is the misconception that they are doing something special when they aren't then I apologize and agree with you 100%. But it didn't come off that way initially and now that I feel like this is what you mean my response is these are the same people that can't melee players. That circle stuff only works on really really bad players.

Speculation about "coming" loot system(s)?
Grundlesmuggler replied to Zeppa's topic in General Discussion
I've read most of the posts, I've done a little research. It seems like the majority of people that dislike server hopping for 3 main reasons: 1. They have an easier time gaining loot. 2. They aren't "server loyal". 3. They will hoard high level loot in the proposed loot system. Reason 1 seems more like people think that the reason to hop servers in the future will be the same as they are now, I.E. we don't want to wait for the server restart to get loot. Currently the only way to re spawn loot on a server is to restart it. In the current game state, this makes sense. But the proposed loot system assumes a much more complex game state, so you must look at server hopping in this respect as well. Reason 2 is hard. We won't know what the devs plan, but if they want us hopping servers to interact with more people and find more items then you can't be angry at someone who "hops" to new server because the one he spent 40 hours on so far only has 3 people on it, is that his fault, the devs fault, or your fault for not playing on his server 24/7. Reason 3 is like reason 1, but much more sensitive because typically gamers on the internet pride themselves on what they can achieve or what they have vs what others don't have. So these touchy individuals get frustrated when they can't obtain something and therefore come up with responses like "This game sucks", "The loot system sucks", "Server hoppers are bad" etc. My point is that the server hopping can be part of the game and not be a detriment. Lets say that if you change a server, then you spawn randomly across the map. Like you log in Svet, hoping to re-loot the town, but when you go to another server you spawn just outside Cherno. This way server hoppers for reason 1 have to work much harder, and reason 3 hoppers also have to work harder not only searching, but protecting their hoards. Reason 2 is a fictional dilemma. It's impossible to assume server loyalty when people play at different times for different reasons. You just make loot respawn reasonably without restarting the server constantly, let it run from day to night and back again, and let the community decide if they want to stay on the same server or not. If you hop to get a rotor, and bring it back to your server. Then someone has to come to your server to get it. That's not ruining the integrity of either server. ***** The caveat for my idea about spawning is actually 2 things. 1: You wouldn't be able to log out/log in at your base since you would be spawning elsewhere. 2: This idea assumes that loot respawning is actually good enough that people would not want to hop for that reason, and thus are only hopping to fight or search for high end loot. -
Side stepping an incoming zombie attack is abusing their AI? What part of hitting a zombie, moving, and hitting him again is breaking the mechanics? There is no "block" button. Are we supposed to just stand in front of them and have a stationary battle? I'm not trying to flame you, I'm just trying to understand what you are getting at here.

Did .49 put these only at heli spawns now? I used to find these in every town I went to and now I can't find one anywhere. I've also tried to find documentation or past conversations about this but no luck. Anyone know?

how about the servers with 8 times more loot?
Grundlesmuggler replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
Only way to respawn loot at the moment is to restart the servers. Given the limitations on gameplay during this alpha, it doesn't make sense to have a night server since it's all PVP anyway and the majority of the community would rather do that during the day so again they have to restart. Currently we have servers restarting all the time, hoppers hopping all the time, and loot gets really buggy due to this. Asking for a change or a buff or any sort of help in this regard is futile since it is an alpha and the process with which loot spawns is a gimmick and a shell of what it should and will be later on in the game's life. Then end goal is to have a loot spawning system that doesn't require a server restart, and more in game functionality that lets a server progress from day to night and back to day. Cycling is one way, but coding a more definitive re spawn system is obviously the goal here. I think you are asking for trouble if you want look to be exponentially increased like in that server. -

Are we expecting anything new after today's maintenance?
Grundlesmuggler replied to theirongiant's topic in General Discussion
I'm still fairly new...what do you mean "official" persistent server? Are these the public regional ones? -
Kind of a stretch to be thinking that deep in character status. Developing that before some other more community driven ideas could be a bad move.

So I finally found a tent... any tips?
Grundlesmuggler replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
You sir. Have bad camp etiquette. He obviously needed help setting up the other tents and you just left them there. You should have set up the whole campsite for him. -
Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Grundlesmuggler replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
I was kinda hoping he said ok, met me in game and I'd just take all his stuff. That would be the long troll. -

I'll take one off your hands thanks bro. -

Grundlesmuggler replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I'm curious as well. I read a post from right after .49 where they said persistence was still 50/50. Have yet to go tent hunting and gear up aggressively since this feature has been suspect. -
Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.
Grundlesmuggler replied to OmpaLompa's topic in General Discussion
Is it possible to see Mi8's from a decent way off? I've pretty much only looked for smoke so far. Edit: Also a thought about this. It makes sense if they are thinking "long-term". Here is some supposition about what they might have in store: Are the future military spawns farther northwest going to contain the high value loot? Presumably so right? - If you think about what the map looks like there is a lot of space to make the Northwest a military hot zone of loot. More bases with high end weapons/ammo/attachments farther away so harder to get to and much more contested right? If this is the plan than the rarity of the chopper/police car spawns now makes sense as an implementation of that type of system. If this loot is the best in the game, and the goal is to only make it available in the far far north and west then a FEW random car spawns and helicopter spawn around the map are acceptable. Currently since no such area exists in the game the police cars and heli's seem like an awful idea. Also, I think a big part of the problem is that the servers restart WAY too often. That's in line with the gamestate, given that there's really no reason to have persistent servers, with minimal restarts and an actual daynight experience when all there is to do is PvP. Big picture? Many many military bases northwest with the best loot. A few ways to get this loot on the way via random spawns. Servers that don't reset every 2 hours and a designed loot respawn system. Higher pop servers. There are multiple fixes and answers to why heli running sucks now. But they all come with the evolution of the game. In the current gamestate if you really want an M4 then you can run around looking for it. But the lower tier weapons actually work just as well now. -
My internet connection, or the game itself?
Grundlesmuggler replied to Act III's topic in General Discussion
Hrmm.. I'm not sure then. Maybe you did just freeze up. Sometimes that happens. Was the whole screen frozen but you can still hear sounds? -
Yeah that's why you gotta get a bead and say hey man I'm friendly I won't shoot you. If you do anything suspicious I got you lined up tho. He runs you blast him.

Grundlesmuggler replied to Act III's topic in General Discussion
So I've seen a couple people gliding around constantly weapon switching. Is this what you mean by weapon switching? If so you can't really tell when they are shooting. I've never had someone shoot a room next to him from far away and it actually be me. But sometimes in melee combat I do get hit even though they are registered outside of melee range. Is it possible that you could have been sniped from 600+. You would never hear that shot. -
I never know where I'm going man :(

Anyone excited for the .357 Lever action?
Grundlesmuggler replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
That's a rhetorical question. But I'll answer anyway. Yes I do realize that. Which is why I posted about the community and not the developers. Thanks for your constructive insight. As you can see in posts above people (generalizing) could honestly care less about additions and would like the game fixed first. -
Common items you've never seen.
Grundlesmuggler replied to leviathanapsu's topic in General Discussion
I just realized this thread title can be misleading! "Common" items you've "never" seen. So to keep in tune with the ambiguous title I will respond to the other meaning that can be derived from it. "Common" items that I "never" see: Pitchforks, I never run across these!!!! Yellow raincoats, out of style i guess Black Boonie hats. COME ON MAN I NEED TO MAKE MY BLACKOUT OUTFIT Before .49 I found revolver auto loaders everywhere. Now I can't find any. -
Etiquette around people sitting by a fire?
Grundlesmuggler replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
The one fire I've seen with people around it was outside the svet church. They were doing a wedding RP thing inside. They were KoS'ing anything around the fire. -
I'm a fairly new player to standalone. About 30+ hours. I played the mod way back. I get how to play the game but my friends don't play anymore because they don't like the gamestate a.k.a they don't like just death matching but they also hate travelling. So I'm a lone wolf. I don't mind playing this way but I feel like I'm missing out on some cool stuff not playing with a group which tbh is what I prefer more. I always see multiple clans in servers I join but they are all terrible at recruiting, or just don't look for new members. Thus I feel I learn less about the game. For example: My helicopter run route seems ridiculously inefficient. It's next to impossible to get anyone to saline you, or help draw your blood/draw theirs, and in parallel help by giving you blood. Along the same lines it seems that trading is pretty much remedial between fresh spawns or done on the forums. Can anyone shed light if you started out as a lone wolf and now play with people you've met? How'd you get it done?

Well it's good to know there are groups out there recruiting. I'll have to check that part of the forums out. -

Grundlesmuggler replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
^ Seriously. OP: You should be more excited/focused/spending your time trying to get them to fix bugs and smooth out game play IMO. It's comical to me that the reddit is plagued with people wanting new additions and new spawns to the game when hackers, bugs, and clips/glitches still exist. The point of an alpha is to iron those things out first. Once they smooth that stuff out, then adding becomes even easier. -
I feel like I'm missing something....
Grundlesmuggler replied to Grundlesmuggler's topic in General Discussion
Correct. But in a situation where you get shot and healthy status takes time to come back while you might be low on blood I carry a couple anyway. I don't know how long it takes you to get back to healthy status after you've taken 2 shots but you can still be low on blood for a pretty decent amount of time while being light green energized and hydrated and not be healthy after a gunfight. Not to mention I carry them in case someone else would need help. I see your point. Thanks for the advice. I'll have to make more of an effort I think. -
I feel like I'm missing something....
Grundlesmuggler replied to Grundlesmuggler's topic in General Discussion
I should have been more clear I think, my bad. I do expect help from others. That isn't an issue. If you approach someone and say. Yo I have stuff I'll give you can you help me? That's not detrimental to surviving on your own. In the situation I was describing I had the saline and I offered food/ammo to a relatively fresh spawn for help. No dice. I had the blood bags and offered a weapon and some supplies to someone for help. No dice. Surviving on your own in this game is easy. I'm talking about experiencing a side of the game that isn't available to someone who is lone wolfing all the time. It sounds like I just need to make more of an effort to group up, even if every attempt is met with hostile action.
