DayZ Lack of Social Realism
Grundlesmuggler replied to therandomredstone's topic in General Discussion
I'm gonna tell a story that's on topic with the OP's post because I won't get sucked into trading opinions about what "realism" would take place in an inherently fake and imaginary apocalyptic scenario. The fact that people can argue their opinions on that matter with the mindset that they are "correct" is idiotic. It's factually proven that the majority of humans in crisis revert to self preservation and FOR THE MOST PART abandon care for others. The most recent being the hurricane that hit Cabo a couple months back. Hotel and resort employees left the area to go home and take care of their families. People were stranded without food, running water, and power. This wasn't even an apocalypse. To my story: My friend (now known as David) and I were fresh spawns near Ayopobka. We decided we should meet up there. I found a fire extinguisher and he found a zombie which made him bleed. This repeated until he was out of bandages. Luckily a lonely black man (Chester) was strolling through the town as well. He asked Chester to help him by bandaging. So like many of you doofuses that think it's a good idea to blindly trust people in Chernarus he rips his shirt and starts bandaging David. I wait for the action, then run out from behind a house, fire extinguisher held up high and crack him in the back of the dome with it. Out cold. While he is out I bandage David but he wakes up during this action and backs away. Big mistake because I was ripe for the punching. David apologizes to Chester and tells him I thought he was hurting David. So Chester comes back to talk to David. As they continue their conversation I slowly back pedal away, and perform the super flank of the century by entering a house "to loot" and exiting the rear. Crept up a few building making sure he didn't realize where I was, came down the road again wielding the same extinguisher; however, god had renamed it "Extinguisher of Morons who trust people in DayZ and think that humanity should outweigh inhumanity in an apocalyptic situation that inherently is inhumane", and screamed "SERIOUSLY YOU LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN" as Cracked him over the head and ended his miserable life. -
You might have missed a lot of grenades because of this.

I haven't, but I flashed myself and other partners several times before learning how to work around the stand still after throwing bug. Use G to throw after pulling pin with F, after throw immediately pull out a weapon. You'll be able to move. Many people have probably died standing still after throwing since it seems like explosions with go through walls and such. Also interesting note. Flashes will work through walls so even if you throw it around a corner or something you might still get flashed if your facing the area where it explodes. Turn away at about the 3ish second mark, wait another 2 then go. Flashes are bugged and make no sound so it's almost impossible to know if you flashed someone correctly. -

Stable. I've found ~ 2 bangs, 1 explosive, several weapons, and food in that spot. -
There was a cool mod, don't remember the name because it was so long ago, but you could fly to a southern island when you geared up. It was a castle/military base with trucks and barracks and such with high value loot but protected by "NPC" survivors. They seemed pretty hard. High ground snipers, AR wielding ground dudes. You had to clear the area before you can loot otherwise they would eventually kill you. Added another element to the game which was pretty cool. Basically, they should leave that decision up to whoever want to mod it in. I think the main problem is that people are trying to compare DayZ SA to the Dayz Mod but using features not found in original DayZ mod. DayZ SA will feature the guns, the vehicles, some aspect of building, the loot systems, a map with a nice flow from civilian coastline to military northwest, and hopefully larger servers. Anything else on top will be left up to the community to mod. This is my opinion based on what I have seen and read about so far.

You think our stable chars will be wiped once it's pushed?

Which is being fixed in .50 with show degradation and increased starving/dehydration. Which is more realistic than reducing run speed and keeping the normal food/drink rates. So a bike would still go a long way in bringing people back to the game.

I never played the experimental branch. But it sounds like it makes the game harder. Which is great news.

They are a little bit of both. You have to be understanding to the dev team, they are creating an expansive world from scratch. We are testing the placeholder zombies for them while they are trying to also figure out how many guns/clothes are gonna be in the game. What types of buildings should be added. What color everything should be....the list goes on. Just throwing in vehicles for the heck of it could create more problems than it would solve and lets be honest, people are going to play with or without vehicles. The only thing they would be good for right now is travel time being cut down. With persistence not working properly, the map not really being populated the way it should be, and the limitations on the game state in Alpha they probably think that putting in vehicles would solve the forrest gumpZ issue, but create several new issues/bugs/crashes who knows. That being said I wish they would dedicate people towards making sure a bicycle would not hurt development and put that in for us.

Can no longer die of hunger?

Or ascended to a level of godhood where sustenance and climate no longer affect you?!?!?!?!? -
Do you guys like the locked doors idea?
Grundlesmuggler replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
So are they gonna be rolling out locked doors for .50 stable? -
The mosin should have never had a bipod; however they were able to be used by the AK's and m4's. They no longer are in the game, so he wants them back. This would basically mean we don't have to double carry our AR's with a mosin on our back to snipe. Although I did kill someone from 650 with an m4 acog no bi-pod!

Hey guys, I've read through a ton of persistence posts about degrading items, and putting them in tents and losing items to tetris etc. I haven't seen anyone say their "tent" has degraded and dissapeared yet other than thinking it was a maintenance that wiped it or for some reason they don't know. So my question is...is a tent indefinite or does it degrade? What I'm getting at is that "tetris" will rearrange your inventory to neatly pack it in a "top-left orientation". So as long as you make sure that your items inside are always perfectly oriented so no tetris occurs, you should never lose anything inside a tent unless the tent dissapears or it's stolen. Thoughts?
-
What about in a PM? I don't care about your stuff. You probably save things that I don't want. I only want to store specific items. So if you fell comfortable PM me the name of the server and I'll keep your secret. Also on said server, are your backpacks not deteriorating? I thought that they eventually deteriorate and dissapear.
-
Yes. Someone else can work out the ratios for the long lived which, I could honestly care less what they would be. But a longer spawn time for shorter life spans would directly impact the way a fresh spawn plays. No more kill yourself and respawn a bunch of times to get your loot back. As realistic as it will get in a game would be to respawn wherever you are and try to make it back to your body.
-
What are the chances this will be fixed in the .50 rollout??!?!!? Probably small :(. Anyone have tents that haven't dissapeared? What company hosts those servers.

Your help with Tents on "dead" servers.

If you are trying to be "realistic" in your assumption about what survival is and isn't then why should you be alive after you die at all? The point of survival is not to die, yet when you die you respawn. So in a world where this is possible, why is it not possible and considered "good practice" to have a stash of supplies somewhere? -
Which is a hard thread to follow honestly. KoS was never NOT a problem in the mod, it was always there; however, there was much much less of it, and more talking/tactical interactions. DayZ SA in it's infancy really doesn't support talking/tactical interactions. There is KoS and cosplay and that's about it (generalization, so for you idiots out there that say BUT THAT'S NOT THE WAY I PLAY!!!, get over yourself you represent 0% of the community). Just imagine when Dayz is released, on patch 1.679272364378. The northwest is populated with a ton of military bases for the high end loot. Dynamic crash sites/events are happening on the map. Vehicles are in, work, and so does persistence. The coast will be much more of a fresh spawn - moderately civilian geared players. Don't forget that spawn points will be smoothed out then as well. Currently the only action is on the coast, so you will regrettably only get hostility because ultimately that's all there is to DayZ SA at the moment.

If you mean died laughing...then check this out. Notice how he thinks "I killed him" but he blatantly commits suicide on my bullets. http://www.twitch.tv/grundlesmuggler/c/5349161

Whoever said that your spawn time should be relevant to how long your previous life was is a genius.

Sorry to be technical but he clearly said he hates them because they ruin immersion WHICH is acutally not a factor in Dayz standalone whatsoever. People that play SA like to think there is a distinction in the game right now that makes you a "bandit" or a "hero" because they have been trained by the mod that if they are forced to kill someone they lose some sort of "heroicness" when actually hero/bandit is more grey than it is black and white. What I would respond with is that this type of behavior doesn't actually affect immersion because the incident played out the way it should have. An example of bambi's ruining "immersion" would be asking to get killed for a respawn, NOT trying to assault someone with more stuff than them. Edit: I didn't mean you were wrong btw, I just wanted to clarify the problem the OP had so the proposed solutions could be more accurate.
