The chance you take to get supplies that you could just run around and find is not a good chance to take. I normally just KoS when I see an armed/unarmed person running around alone because chances are, that guy is going to kill me eventually. Not going to sneak up on them, announce my presence and request we have a cup of tea and shoot the shit for a hour. That guy is going to see what I am carrying, want it, and kill me to get it. Nope. If you want to interact with people, join a clan or a group that will share with you. Being alone in this game mimics reality. You will not last long alone and strength in numbers trumps all. Not just strength in killing power but also resources.

Zeroing is an option. If you don't want it, don't use it. You still have to dial in your optic. If anything that takes more time. When you use the mil dots you are accounting for bullet drop. When you adjust a scope by zeroing, you are accounting for bullet drop. Raising the barrel and using the vertical cross-hair is easier and faster for me but zeroing might be easier for someone else.

I have stumbled across two tents so far. I looted one and the other was empty so I just took it. They were not in obvious spots and it was a very random place in the woods that they were both left in. Since .51 though I have not really cared for looking for the tents since persistence still really isn't persistent. Spending the time searching for tents and keeping a bunch of stuff for a few days just to have to pack the tent up every Tuesday night and basically lose whatever I can't carry on my person gets old after the first few weeks.

My Steam overlay is LShift + Tab. When I am sprinting, I have to momentarily let go of LShift, hit Tab and then I can hit LShift again and resume sprinting all while accessing my inventory. You should try either changing your Steam overlay binding, disabling it altogether or use my method.

Does that keep you from playing in night servers? Some people have actual vision problems so I would not expect gamma to be something that would go away ever. You should just turn yours up too and act like you are in Rome.

Are you saying that loot will respawn in the middle of a server's uptime? Without a restart? This makes sense to me because I swear I have logged off and back on within a restart and seen loot reappear.

I'm going to throw my suggestion out here as well. When the server is resetting, wait about 5 minutes. Do not just click the server listing to refresh it, it will not refresh anything but the ping. I exit out to the main menu or click on the server tab and then back to my favorites tab. This refreshes the whole listing and will reflect the amount of players and the time. Wait for the server time to have changed from the :00 of the hour to something like :01 or :02 of the hour. This works for me every time and I have never been reset by practicing this. It might be tedious but it works.
