What exatly is the significance of certain sounds?
burtondrummerNY replied to dhorseven's topic in New Player Discussion
Unfortunately I don't think they actually have any significance (I could be totally wrong), but it would be nice if they did in standalone. -
The things you're not proud of. What you did in Dayz. Tell us your stories.

Was playing in a private hive that happened to have the AH-1. Flew around with a buddy claiming I was in a Huey and would give people rides. Imagine their surprise when they run to the LZ, and instead of staring at a Huey, they see the front of an AH-1 coming at them. Not especially proud, but was quite fun. -

The DayZ difficulty - is it good as it is? (Poll)

Too easy! Once you get geared up, the only thing you have to worry about is getting sniped. Edit: and getting hacked :P -
Study Body in stand alone.

Agreed, if I saw a dead man outside my house tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to say more than "he had gotten shot through the head". I would not be able to say "it would appear that he was executed at point blank range with a 9mm by a man" Basic info though, like a rough estimate of time of death and some physical signs would be nice -
Green Mountain's cursed? Devils castle is home to the devil?

Ding ding ding we have a winner! By the way, for those who are not fluent in Morse code, this is what they are saying: We are no longer alive STOP This message will play every hour if operators are no longer responsive STOPMESSAGE Unable to quarantine subject change STOPMESSAGE *roar...zombie?* -
Every once in a while, you should stop to smell the roses (alright, you can't really since it's a game, but you get my meaning). I noticed while I was raiding the NW airfield that DayZ has some really nice moments. Feel free to share your nice shots! Edit: btw, this is day 41 of survival!

I actually like that DayZ isn't a total dark, devoid of life, post humanity game, but I agree that it could be a little creepier. I don't think DayZ should be scary as in ghosts and hauntings and such where things happen that are generally unsettling or downright scary (although its hilarious when you see things like that on youtube), but should be as if humanity has ceased to exist and nature is taking control again. Sort of like what you see in abandoned parts of the former USSR, where the streets are cracked with grass growing through, apartments and other buildings are empty and stand there eerily like a tombstone for humanity. Of course, (excuse me if I'm wrong), we don't know how long after the infections began this mod takes place, so depending on whether its been weeks or years, the feel should be different; if it's been a month, the buildings shouldn't look like they're going to fall over, but if its been years, then its a different story. Also, I love the nature aspect of the mod, how you spend a lot of time in the woods or in rural areas, so I hope that the standalone can expand upon the feeling of a place that has been reverted to nature and had zombies thrown in. Just my $.02 (or 0.0156€ or 0.0125£, your choice!)

You ever get killed in the most remote place possible and wonder if it was just bad luck or a hacker?

They might have followed you. Your guns would look pretty enticing. Edit: I do believe the poster above me is in the wrong place. -

Would you like the .950 JDJ in DayZ?
burtondrummerNY replied to ProGamerGov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. It's bad enough having high caliber military rifles. -
My goal is to have my current life last at least 2 weeks before I die, and go to the NW airfield again.

Major artifacts after last patch

Yes, I have them too, makes it quite difficult to raid the coastal cities. -
Were you using the Steam Overlay or had you minimized the game before this problem started? I have this problem occasionally and this is the reason. Simply reopen and close the steam overlay a few times, and if that doesnt work try minimizing and reopening the game. This usually fixes it for me.

I have to respectfully disagree, I think it's one of the elements of Arma 2 that makes it such a cool game. If you went out into a field and crawled around on the grass, it would stay down or at least be bent. It's something you have to think about in the game. Also, zombies don't notice where you've been crawling, so changing the grass wouldn't make it any harder or easier for new players.

Hello dear DayZ players. This is my first post, but not my first time here, as I've been lurking for quite some time. Anyways, I've come to share my most recent experience in DayZ and to share my reason to decide to become a bandit. Today, I was a happy go lucky survivor, just spawned near Otmel and Drakon. I decided that it would be fun to go to Elektro and to see if I could find any good gear. So, I headed towards town and started on my journey. Along the way, I picked up several items ranging from a watch and hunting knife to an m1911 and a winchester. Feeling like a boss, I head into town along the outskirts along the ocean. Eventually, I work my way around and climb up the fire station's tower to have some fun. After getting about 30 kills and 25 headshots, I go afk for a short time. I come back, and to my surprise, there's a survivor staring at me, so I immediately type "friendly, please don't shoot". After a brief exchange, we go on our ways and never see each other again. Fast forwards 30 mins or so and I'm heading out of elektro, when suddenly some guy starts sprinting at me "don't shoot bro, please, i need help". Now, the caring survivor that I am, I don't shoot, and help him get rid of some pursuing zombies. After expressing his gratitude, he asks me to help him kill a survivor "with a sweet gun" in the fire station. Now, I was skeptical, since I was just there, but I agreed, not really having any choice, as I saw he had an AK47. So, I follow him to the station, find it empty, and keep going, until I see a bunch of zombies running towards the offices. I am excited, because I might, for the first time ever, have a cool gun. I write to my friend "he's over there, there's zombies chasing him!" To which he acknowledges, and we move in. There's two of them, both well armed. My friend proceeds to engage them, killing one, and the other flees to the back. Seeing my chance, I move in through the front door, find the other, and shoot at him, with my friend getting the killshot. We did, I thought to myself...time to get some loot. So, I find the body, grab his M4 and ammo, and begin to tell my friend that we did good. Blam. One through my skull. So. Moral of the story? Being bandit is more fun, I suppose. I thank this guy for convincing me to become the bandit I secretly always wanted to be. Thanks for reading!

Yeah it gets annoying after a while being helpful. Time to adopt a new strategy then :)
