Unfortunately I don't think they actually have any significance (I could be totally wrong), but it would be nice if they did in standalone.

Was playing in a private hive that happened to have the AH-1. Flew around with a buddy claiming I was in a Huey and would give people rides. Imagine their surprise when they run to the LZ, and instead of staring at a Huey, they see the front of an AH-1 coming at them. Not especially proud, but was quite fun.

Agreed, if I saw a dead man outside my house tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to say more than "he had gotten shot through the head". I would not be able to say "it would appear that he was executed at point blank range with a 9mm by a man" Basic info though, like a rough estimate of time of death and some physical signs would be nice

Every once in a while, you should stop to smell the roses (alright, you can't really since it's a game, but you get my meaning). I noticed while I was raiding the NW airfield that DayZ has some really nice moments. Feel free to share your nice shots! Edit: btw, this is day 41 of survival!

I actually like that DayZ isn't a total dark, devoid of life, post humanity game, but I agree that it could be a little creepier. I don't think DayZ should be scary as in ghosts and hauntings and such where things happen that are generally unsettling or downright scary (although its hilarious when you see things like that on youtube), but should be as if humanity has ceased to exist and nature is taking control again. Sort of like what you see in abandoned parts of the former USSR, where the streets are cracked with grass growing through, apartments and other buildings are empty and stand there eerily like a tombstone for humanity. Of course, (excuse me if I'm wrong), we don't know how long after the infections began this mod takes place, so depending on whether its been weeks or years, the feel should be different; if it's been a month, the buildings shouldn't look like they're going to fall over, but if its been years, then its a different story. Also, I love the nature aspect of the mod, how you spend a lot of time in the woods or in rural areas, so I hope that the standalone can expand upon the feeling of a place that has been reverted to nature and had zombies thrown in. Just my $.02 (or 0.0156€ or 0.0125£, your choice!)
