Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
Finchtastic replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
The map is based off of a very small piece of landmass north of Prague, CzR. If you don't believe me, google maps "Povrly", it should be where Elektro is on the DayZ map. It is 100% in the Czech Republic, However, the language and town names are Russian (Confirmed by a guy who grew up in Siberia). For example, the town of Chernogorsk corresponds to a town in the Czech Republic on the river (the ocean in DayZ is a river in real life), but there is a real life town of Chernogorsk in soutch central Russia, just north of Mongolia. -

The towns and landscape etc. were take from the Czech Republic...Which is bordered by Poland to the north..Maybe that's why? -

If you look at the town names, along with the cyrillic, you can gather that it's fictionally set in Russia. However, the region, I believe, is based off of a place in Ukraine while most of the towns and landscapes, physically, are taken from the Czech Republic. I saw the video posted above a few months ago, it's really awesome, and it will show you the real places in the CzR vs the animated ones. -
Being a paying customer, you are agreeing to their terms of use. If kicking people from your server for such reasons is against the terms of use, your money no longer matters, as you have violated the rules and foreited your rights to use until the provider decides otherwise. Obviously I don't mean "you" in specific, as you said you've never had a server. But this idea is the same with a vast majority of products, especially virtual ones.

Worst idea I've ever heard...

When I first Dl'd and played .49, I felt as though it was totally unplayable. Not by anything they added, but it seemed like the devs just totally broke the game. The glitches in previous patches were worse than before, there are new glitches everywhere, the new features are glitched...It just seems like everything is glitched...I've played probably 10 hours on .49 and it's awful...I like where they are going, but it's just so ridiclously glitchy it's hardly worth playing. I had a much better time playing .48, with or without the dupes and hackers. I was just wondering if they had fixed any issues yet, since 2 weeks have passed since I've played.

Idk, I just figured entire buildings disappearing while you're in them and not being able to respawn/respawning to your previous, just-before-death state would pretty big glitches. I guess it makes sense to do it all and then fix it, hadn't really thought of it like that. I also didn't mean that they should fix every single glitch that arises, immediately. But on the other hand, I remember reading the reports 2 or 3 weeks prior to the .49 launch, they spent a lot of time bugfixing all sorts of things, apparently. Then they release .49 and it's even buggier than it was before. It really seems like they halfway broke the game lol.

I actually died the other week because I refused to combat log...lol. I was in a police station (I forget which one) and the entire building just totally glitched out and I was floating in midair. I couldn't see anything inside the building, but could see everything outside the building. I see a freshspawn come in what I assumed to be the front door..It was. He came up the stairs, so I pulled out my mosin and tried to tell him I was friendly. He immediately ran back down the stairs and left. A minute or two later, he came back up and I knew what was coming. He punched me once, so I shot him in the chest, yet somehow he didn't die. I got knocked out and died a few seconds later. I could have left and I knew he would come back, but I wanted to duel it out, glitched or not. Long passed are the days where I actually care about my character. These days I log on, grab a coat and melee weapon and run straight to the first major city to find people to either roll with, or try to knock out, depending on their reactions to me.

to whoever I killed at NWAF, thanks for the perfect m4
Finchtastic replied to claws4life's topic in General Discussion
Well, to be fair....It's NWAF, lol. What else would you expect? I half expect to get sniped from 100m away when I roll there, I would never AFK in the airfield..Any of them. I do have some pretty legit hiding spots around the airfields though, where people can't find me even if they're 2 feet away (unless they're REALLY perceptive) from when I used to server hop for gear a lot, when I first got the game. -
Very understandable, really puts into perspective the challenges the team faces. That being said, as professionals, I would assume when you take one step forward but 3 steps back, it would make sense to rectify the issue as quickly as possible so you can return to adding to the game as quickly as possible. I get that it's kind of trial and error, but I was hopeful that they would have at least identified the issues by now.

Thank you for an actual answer. Also, anything you percieve as a complaint, is simply just a justification or a background for the question I asked, so it had a clear context.

You can say whatever you want, but you have completely missed the point...If you don't have anything useful or constructive to say, then please refrain from comment. We all know this is in alpha, we see it every f@$#*ng we turn the game on. My question was if they had fixed any of the blunders that came with the new patch, because the LAST patch was exponentially less glitchy. Logic dictates that when you move forward, you make progress. This is the opposite and since WE ARE IN ALPHA, they should be actively fixing these issues and my question was if they had, since I have not logged on in 2 weeks. Thanks for nothing, except the misguided attempt at making me feel like an idiot for asking a legitimate question.

I don't use my forum name in game, however I have been saved by my in game name before. If any of you have watched the "Purple beard lata" video of Unturned, you'll get the reference. Anyway, I had my name as purple beard and in Berezino of all places, I hear this: "Purple beard? I was going to kill you, but my friend has informed me that your name is sacred." If it works, it works, I guess lol

What PVP kills? He killed an afker, that's worse than killing a freshie. No skill whatsoever, kinda pathetic to be honest... PVP implies that more than one player is engaged in playing. -
Is this a serious question? This is seriously the most stupid topic I've ever read...
-
Well, I just meant it wouldn't surprise me to find one, seeing as they'r Russian that's all. But yeah, I agree. Tomahawks n stuff owuld be sweet.
-
Well, since this is supposed to be Russia, I'd say the famous Russian spring-loaded ballistic knife would be a good addition.

Idk guys, I just use a down jacket and keep a raincoat in my pack...I never get cold unless I get wet, which is ridiculously broken. If you're running on shore and run ONE SINGLE STEP through a puddle, you're instantly soaking and cooling off, it's crazy. Other than that though, I haven't had any real problems. I've also only played 3 or 4 times on this patch, because it's so disgustingly glitchy. I'd guess probably about 10-14 hours-ish.
-
last patch I found one at NWAF or just outside of it almost every time I went there, which was a lot. I'd say about 80% of the time I'd find a chopper, only once in the middle of the airfield though.

There seems to be a consensus as to how zombies act...However, I've yet to experience ANY of those things. I've never been chased by more than 4 or 5 zombies at once and when they died, they died. I kill them, then go on about my business in peace. As for hearing you axe one, I've sprinted past a zombie 5 feet behind it and it didn't hear me on MANY occasions, though maybe that's just a glitch. As for the respawn aggro, as I mentioned, I've never seen a zed respawn..I kill them and they don't come back. The only time zombies appear to act as everyone claims, is when you shoot. It seems to attract any and all zombies in the area, but you kill them with an axe so you don't draw in any extras and they don't come back. I've yet to try .49, but as of yet I haven't seen any validtity to anything anyone here has said regarding zombies...yet I have no clue as to why that is..

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Finchtastic replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yes, people who kill on sight are absolutely terrible at DayZ. They're not good enough or smart enough to assess the situation they're in and let it play out, so they simply end it. This stems from being a weak individual, unable to cope with external pressures and anxieties and not being calm enough to quickly come up with a plan to engage the other player. It's not like running behind a house or a tree or something, out of view of the player, and initiating conversation is really that hard...If you don't get a good feeling about him, leave him alone. If he hears you and starts looking for you without speaking, kill him. If he talks back, continue your assessment. This is a very simple concept, but KOSers are just scared of interaction...They're scared of a video game, tey don't want to lose their precious gear and spend 20-30 minutes finding new stuff. Why would they, they can't even be bothered to take 45 seconds to assess a player contact situation, why would they want to spend 20 whole minutes? What it boils down to is trepidation, they don't know what they're doing or they're too scared to do it, they are the bottom of the barrell of DayZ players. They are not bandits, they're just A-holes that are too scared to be real bandits. People who kill fresh spawns are even worse, they're really THAT terrible that they kill people with ZERO gear...It's pathetic...DayZ is a very personal game, believe it or not. It brings out peoples inner primal being and it shows up in their play. The weaker individuals KOS, kill freshies and camp for hours waiting for someone to snipe from a mile away. The stronger ones help people, are medics and hunt bandits and KOSers. They have much more on their plate than some dude rolling around wating to spam left click and therefor are the superior player. -
Balota Military Camp Moving to New Location! [SenChi Tweet]
Finchtastic replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Idk, it just sounds like they're concentrating all the highend loot to the NW corner...You already have people camping the NWAF all day long, now there's gonna be another military base less than 5 minutes away? That just sounds ridiculous...The way it was before was fine, stuff was spread out and not everyone rushed one part of the map, the NW is gonna be worse than Berezino now...I feel like they just ruined the western experience for everyone...BUT, I guess I'll try it out before I pass any REAL judgement, it just seems silly to me. -

Finchtastic replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Just seems counter productive...There's already a NWAF, who needs two within 5 minutes of eachother? Are they trying to make the west the new eastcoast? It just doesn't seem to make any sense to me... -
Patch confirmed? Vilayer's emails and facebook.

Yeah, it's taking longer than expected...by 3 friggen weeks...way to go devs. They may as well just update and not tell anyone if they're going to be that far off
