    Heli crash sites

Your way is one the best ways to do it, I think. My comment was related to the problems I have finding crashsites that are further away using binoculars. With my posted settings for example: standing just at the eastern corner of the wood surrounding green mountain and spotting towards Pulkovo, I would not see a heli crashed on the field east of the town (wx permitting). I can see heyballs and stuff, but the heli would only appear when I am closer (and at that point I can see him without any scope too). I tried that with other locations as well and the result is always the same (again: for my settings). That is why I work a little backwards at the moment: if I see a crashsite I try to find a good spotting point far away, where I am 100% sure I can still see this one, but maybe also cover another one or save some way towards it. As for my search results so far: I found 4 M4´s and a lot of mags and attatchments, but no decent sope (with that I mean an Acog, worn or better). And I did a lot of running... That is the reason why I switched back to another "automatic rifle using the same ammunition" (I am not sure if I am allowed to mention the name for it in this thread. So I leave it like that... ;o) The best M4 parts are stored in my backpack until I have more luck with the scope.

Do Blackskull Balaclavas still drop since the hotfix?

I agree. I´m way too old for one of these. Ingame I wear a plain green one; that fits better (playstyle and the rest of my clothes). I just put this one on for the picture, since I was "asked" for it... As it seems to be quite rare at the moment I hang on to it. Maybe I´ll meet someone nice who´ll like to have it... ;o)

Proof. http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3758/9ac6mqb9_jpg.htm (...sorry, I can´t get the picture directly inside this post somehow...)

Do Blackskull Balaclavas still drop since the hotfix?

They do. I found one this morning at the NWAF crashsite near the tent city. Didn´t pick it up though... because I already have one!

    Ingame map

Ah ok, I see your point now and agree. It can be quite hard on the inventory until you have all pieces together. It is always a relief for me to get rid of the unnecessary parts once that happens and valued space is freed up. I guess it is like you said, you have to set priorities, and maybe keep it for later... I for my part like the process of finding them and I am also using the ingame map quite a lot. The accurracy is more than enough for me, it is always updated (new towns etc.) and I really, really like the terrain-heightlines, which I find very helpful sometimes. A feature "pictured"online maps do not provide; and I really like to explore lootpoints for myself too, so I do not need them indicated with coloured points etc. on a map. Both, compass and map, go into the first protector box I find... As for the GPS-feature: I´ve never seen during my play and I really hope it will never make it into the game. I want to be surprised, also by the zeds, and feel my hair in the neck rise once they are suddenly after me... Own, permanent markings in a map would be nice though. Especially once that persistence thing works better and you happen to "find" somebody elses map with interesting markings in it...

    Ingame map

A full map takes one single inventory slot. Have you ever tried combining map pieces to create a full map?

    Heli crash sites

Now that explains a lot!! That´s why I couldn´t find anything on the "southern loop" anymore... Thanks for the info! As of my gameplay this morning: again the 2 Mi-8 and 1 BH pattern on one server. Still have to look for my "precious", but was very lucky find 2 "gems" at an Mi-8 crashsite...

    Heli crash sites

During todays morning raid I found 2 Mi-8´s and 1 Blackhawk on a single server. All spots were according to the map shown above. I´ve not seen a heli Crash somewhere else so far. Against my previous experience loot at the Mi-8`s was towards nil (either someone took it all except one damaged UK vest, there was none, or I couldn´t get it out of the ground due to terrain). So, yes I agree, might not be worth all the effort... but I like that M4... and helicopter-hunting... ;o) Thanks Sniper-Wolf for that hint. One thing I found out on .48: with my settings (sceneComplexity=1000000;viewDistance=3000;preferredObjectViewDistance=3000;ingame menue details on VH) the binoculars didn´t show helicrashsites from further away than you were able to see with bare eyes. Max range to spot them was around 1000m (according to an online-map), then they disappeared from eyesight and the bino didn´t bring them back. I don´t know if that is still true for .49, as I use the PSO-1 scope for spotting at the moment and I was always inside this range when doing so.

    Heli crash sites

Same here. Since the new patch is up and running on stable I have found three crashsites - 2 Blackhawks and one Mi-8. No M4 but the Mi had good loot (Pso-scpoe, Gorka jacket, 60/40 5,56 mags, binocular etc.). Most of it was stuck in the ground and I used the inventory for finding it. I hope I am wrong but as far as I know there are only 3 helicrashsites spawning with each server-restart (not the above mentioned 4).

    Cars in Dayz Standalone

Although I like the idea of finding and puzzeling parts together to create a functioning object (like the "full map") I think there are enough cars already in the game - all they need is more loot inside... ;o) The full running speed is way too high at the moment and it is already too easy to get from Point A to B across the map. I like to restrict myself to the "brisk walk" sometimes; works better for me to enjoy the landscape with all moving things in it and also gets me out of the "quick and hurry mode"a bit. The full running speed (around 30 kmh I think) would be great for bicycles... that would still give an option to find stuff and work on a project for some time.

Is a Down Jacket better than a Rain Coat?

In my eyes the raincoat is kind of an wx-allrounder with one drawback: it can´t be mended. That is the reason I like to choose the Gorka-jacket (usually in plain green).

New military base west of Myshkino

Apart from the food and drinks I found just a few .45 ACP and 7,62x39 ammunition boxes.

what's your favorite backpack to use?

The improvised boarskin backpack is my choice, as it has the same amount of slots as the Talon and is relatively flat on the back. I hope it will go nicely with Smershvest and -pack.
  14. That´s right. The longer your char is alive, the longer the hair and beard should grow. A truly skillful or lucky survivor would look like this guy: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/487827004043046445/5B6B6CA30DC858AA9C7C02D416D18C887FA5D504/ ...at least kind of...maybe... ;o)
  15. A barber-shop for Matt. His hair is sticking through most of the headgear that I usually choose for him... or at least a trimmer... Seriously: working silencers would be nice (to go with the advanced zombies) and more of the interesting touristic attractions scattered all over the map
