1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
Richocet replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But seriously. What I've seen so far is that the Zombies are no longer Metal Gear Solid One radar tunnel-visioned soldiers, and can actually see you even if you stand perfectly still, which also rules out my previous lore prediction of the infected really being dinosaurs in disguise.. Because this game needs a lot more dinosaurs. Could be wrong here, but its safe to say the 'stability' aspect of the update which Rocket was working for is working, right now the stress is only sticking around because of sheer volume of connection's and downloads, the server I'm on right now I joined in seconds, and have zero FPS issues.. This makes many smiles :DDDDD But I'm sure if we just keep caps locking and recycling the same 'I lost my shit' and 'Dose zombies, they kill me, why they do?' Comments, Rocket's sure to cave in and make a 1.7.2.1 within the next two days even. Now I 'gotta go find my Deku clothes again, because I appreciate this is an alpha, and shit happens. Richocet:. -
Someone doesn't read, nor knows of the small lore in the game. These people are not Zombies, they are not 'dead' They are living infected human beings. They sprint like roadrunners, punch without mercy and are a living entity of rage and hunger. Though this is what I said before, you just chose not to listen. Richocet:.

You seem to be a little frantic about this, though there are reasons for it. To begin with you have your typical 'Y no start wepon' discussion, its been filtered through probably a good hundred or so threads now, the general response being man up.. along with some relation to a FPS game in the form of an insult. Now everyone has their right to an opinion on this game as a 'consumer' and tester, though I'm sorry to say that no matter what the argument is the situation probably isn't going to change.. There will never be a starting weapon, it's YOUR dilemma, not the games. Now you are right, its only a problem because without one you cannot defend yourself, with your fists at least, which is the suggestion you have used. Once again this isn't the first time this has been brought up, but a lot of people seem to be trying to relate to maybe the slower more popular 'Walking dead' zombies which the cast beat up on a regular occasion to escape. These 'infected' have been driven to primal functions and as far as the current infected state is [Whether this will be changed in the future or not] Is that they have no problems with stamina, nor power. In this currently admittedly buggy stage in the mod these zombies can knock you unconcious with their bare hands, break your legs.. And otherwise butcher you in seconds.. They're stronger, faster and more able than you are, so even if you COULD throw a punch or nudge one away, they could easily overpower you. Of course we can't forget the obvious inability to include close quarters mechanics from scratch, though that response would be too simple and easy~ And that's how it is right now, friend Richocet:.

DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again
Richocet replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
This thread used to be about server problems. Then the community came along. Servers are down and otherwise messin' up eh? The team will fix it up and I'll be playing again in no time~ -
Might as well remove the Zombies and call it DayPVP
Richocet replied to TJBain's topic in New Player Discussion
Zombies 'Dun do 'nuffin, ppl are jerks. 'Totes PvP all over 'dis hurr place. Haet 'dis gaem, nut 'gun play no moar. No weponz plz, me gusta. I'm sorry, but from the mountains of this kind of thread that I have read, this is all I read from anyone before even seeing the persons own personal input to the situation. You are mentioning problems which have already been countlessly addressed across the boards, you are not offering specific problems outside of the generic engine of the game which will never change but only improve with patience. You have claimed the obvious, typed before you thought about it, and have brought the horde of those who take sheer enjoyment out of picking people who do this apart with pointless responses. I, the community, appreciate your opinion on this Alpha Mod. But please, don't post if you have nothing valuable to say. Richocet:. -
Tent city and protection ideas. Please give your opinion
Richocet replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A very good concept, and a discussion which should be more vibrant within the community. for one am a little bored with my groups make-shift horror that is a base though if you wanted to you could actually make this kind of place in-game right now with the right tools. Larger tents and the ability to craft towers would be a great help though, my group has build around a deer stand with a large over-watch, surrounded it with sandbags and shoved tents inside the parameter.. You could call it dangerous though it pulls in some real interesting fire-fights from people hunting with loot-maps. Though the ability to build larger tents and even Deer-stands are the next step in base development, you hit that nail right on the head, and I hope its something rocket considers when he gets to the community improvement within the testing. I'm just dreaming of my own little base now. Richocet:. -
This game is becoming less fun.
Richocet replied to synergies (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As much as my own friends agree with you OP, I'll have to side with the generic come-back horde on this one. To be polite the game in itself is a large training curve for someone who has just come out of your typical FPS and has approached a detailed MilSim for the first time, when I joined this game from a friends input he gave me some words of wisdom that you should pass onto your own friends. 'Prepare not to have fun, until you realise you're having fun.' People approach this mod with pace in mind, as common game engines are tunnel driven rather than open world it leaves the player to sometimes just stand there and think to themselves: Alright, now what. Theres no arrows, no objectives or for something that is even rarer, allies. You could say this is an alpha, compare his friends who you don't know in the slightest to generic popular games but to a degree everyone can see where he and his friends are coming from. This game is hard, to be blunt its an alpha and therefore it is riddled with bugs on a regular basis, its a hardcore Fallout thrown into the deep end and laughed at as you flail for dear life.. Its only after nine tries and gritted teeth that you find some ATV randomly set down in the middle of your random running path that you scream like a little school girl. The game doesn't find fun for you, and you are not spoon fed either.. It's all about finding your own fun. And always, always expect to die. Richocet:. -
Rocket announced and wrote in stone from day one that, even though earning money from such an apparently new and loved idea, he walked into this intending a response from only the small Arma community but instead got another 10-20 thousand buying the game just for the mod. On assumptions and Guess-timates I'd say the additional sales would be easily into six digits, which is an insane boost. With rumours flying around about how easy it would be to shift over the DayZ concept into the new third engine, along with BI granting their support for the mod, I would think the game will either become an expansion which ships with the game or a stand-alone expansion obviously based on the engine. The engine itself, unlike popular belief, is an amazing piece of moldable work intended for the fantastic MilSim that Arma is. If you were to play the game you purchased for something other than an alpha Zombie game I think you would be surprised with the smoothness in comparison to the mod.. Obviously because Arma itself is a finished game and DayZ is a alpha mod, though people seem to underestimate the sheer awesomeness of the ArmA engine in regards to its fairly easy access and ability to adjust internally. This will no doubt improve with Arma 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Alpha remains as such until the third game of the series is released, and then shifted over onto that parallel engine. It really depends how much salt you are willing to take with the speculations. Richocet:.

Ladies and Gents, I give you the future community of this hopefully block-buster concept that is emotional based apocalyptic survival. On the topic of this thread, it should be locked and moved for the whole community to see. Hell, it should be implemented that this is e-mailed to the users account to read before joining, just to let people know what kind of circle they are merrily skipping into after finding out about the mod. Being a veteran of the Arma franchise and hopping on this bandwagon since pretty much day one, it has been wonderful to fine line that has formed between those who put forward ideas sensibly and maturely, and those who will never contribute once to this game bar their back-pocket cash, useless forum contribution and eventual negative attitude onto its community. Real good job guys, I can just see thousands of people rearing to join this kind of environment. On the topic of the idea; I feel you are trying to put forward something which, to be slightly bland based on the responses is outside of the maturity level of some if not many of the current testers.. Between the lines you are another player who wishes to find means to pull together the community rather than have them pointlessly fight, presuming you've seen your fair share of action in this mod you no doubt know you are not alone in such an endeavour. While you put forward this idea I feel the real question you are asking discussion wise is 'What can we do to make it like the old days.' Those who weren't around a couple of months ago, bandits were actually hunted down, blacklisted and announced on a regular basis leaving them to be constantly hunted by the much larger survivor community at the time. Like the infection we play around people began to get butt-hurt, and turned on one another.. And here we are. But that's for another thread, the idea of reproduction from your perspective derives more towards community within the game, reasons to feel connected to someone so much that you would defend them to in result establish tight-knit groups resulting in hopefully a better experience. Where your idea is a very straight-forward approach to such a concept. From reasons fore-mentioned, current life-spans of a vast percentage of the player base and no real means of providing rewards without instilling aggravation within the tender community.. We simply are not ready for this kind of step, alpha and end-game aside. This kind of idea is needed soon, and for lack of a better expression it needs to be stabbed into the game mechanics as a preferable option over watching Elek from the far fire-station for countless hours just to kill newcomers and clear entire sectors, which admittedly I have been reduced to doing as my friends scramble through the town. I hope by the end of this I should be able to walk into an area and be warned to leave, but to inject humanity into a virtual world is not at all an easy task. Writers 'gonna write, take that inability to read and shove it mister TLDR Richocet:.

Considering this is presumably your first group up after nine attempts, which I can relate with completely after the trips I've had to do with my brother and friends.. You guys are a good team even there, a good watch~ I also apologise for the first response to your first post on this forum being one of people who keep this community a thin-line between logical communication and total retardation, we're not all like this mascot of stupidity I assure you. For those a little slow in the noggin' and can't read big things, just look to the bolded parts for the general jist of this thread. I felt the title needed a little bazazz *jazz hands* to really accommodate the discussion which I hope will unfold here. The one amazing pro that comes from a zombie infested mod is that the people who play obviously take a fondness towards our flesh-eating un-dead counterparts. It has been done many a time across the interwebz, and may have even happened here once or twice without me noticing, but I'll get right to the point as this forum seems to take great pride in its community of computer game enthusiasts who can't read without needing a mental rest every three lines. What would you rather have in a mod like this, or what do you personally prefer: The shambling hordes of groaning hungry brain-dead brain-lovers? Or the virus ridden speed freaks more content on beating you to a pulp before maybe taking a nibble. Now before you think a few things to post simply because you may or may not feel like being an asshat today, this is in no way directed at the current state of the mods zombies.. Call it even a question of which you would prefer, if you will. Also I am in no way claiming Capcom invented slow zombies, and Romero invented the bolters, I just thought it had a nice ring to it. Other than whats your own preference speed? What would you do if Rocket turned around and maybe 'fixed' (This being in the eyes of those who feel super fast zombies who can see long distances are not good for this mod) The Zeds into the complete opposite of what they are now.. Hell, even duplicated them into near unbreakable crowds around localised areas. We have been fed a lot of both kind of Zombie, no pun intended, as well as probably seen the many arguments that a fast zombie isn't really a zombie, but a virus ridden half-dead being, but that topic lies elsewhere. Would you enjoy the masses of hunched moanin' and groanin' slowly approaching your barely equipped self over the speedy European country-folk we have now? Have you always had a sweet spot for those idle punching bags that I sure enjoyed messing around with in such games as Dead Rising. And how would it effect the game should Rocket hypothetically choose to do a switch-er-roo? Personally I'd love the slow to dawn the mod, maybe even more so than the fast Zed's which have become popular labels of the term. I look forward to other zombies lovers inputs~ Maybe even Rocket himself! Bless my thread. Richocet:.

Duly noted fellow zombie-slayers, short lived though highly informative for ten minutes of a thread. And its much appreciated for the mod aspect as well as the personal opinions I assure you. To get a little brown on my nose I by no means would ask for the general aspect of this mod to change, I've had a blast with my long-standing character despite the many engine tumbles along the way. This is going to get bigger before it gets smaller, regardless of the vibe some of the community produces upon newcomers. Richocet:.

Haha, This is what I'm talking about! Apologies in stepping on already covered ground then, friend. It's nice to see that people share the same daydream as I do though. I've also read your thread, not to mash up intentions and mix up where to put what opinion but I think we're very much on the same page with this idea, though I'm being slightly hypocritical in my saying it as an idea over a discussion. It's been on my mind whether I'm playing the game or not, the fear factor of running away from road-runners seems to almost lay one foot behind the oddly humble masses than limp and tumble towards you while you lay with next to no ammo. What better way to reinforce the survival aspect, as I've always wondered how I'd react in a low ammo, many zombie situation.. You could have all the powerful weapons in the game and still not be able to juggle the numbers that the slower kind always produced. True it would cause a problem engine side, connections and FPS speeds may also take a hit with heaps of mobs being thrown around, though one can dream. Richocet:.

I'm sorry, but I think this is a bug in itself.

Please read the first post.. Please.. I beg of you. Just read, these horrific oblivious posts are killing me. Keep up to date with what Rocket it saying, save yourself the derp-ish appearance when you ask about things that are already in the loop.

You miss the point of what I was trying to say. I took the patch head on, rage in the bowels of my stomach ready to hence forth and join the pack of people who seem to be throwing more problems at the screen in such strange and abnormal ways than actual time to appreciate the game. You also missed the quirk at the start of the whole read, which I thank you for reading and thank you for appreciating my own enjoyment. I picked up the game to look into the problems all of you had been facing, not for my own enjoyment, the bonus was that I had fun doing it. I checked for the noise and zombie problems, range and loot which many people had been recycling in complaints across the whole board all weekend despite the multiple attempts and clarifications that they have been taken into account and are being fixed. Yet because people don't 'read' and simply complain, we are met with a million of the same question, just in poorer and poorer formalities. True, this is supposed to be fun, but if you want fun maybe you should stick to the forum, wait for the game to finished, then play it rather than attempt to test it.. Which in my story I did, with a lot of things. I'd be the nice rocket's little helper and post all the problems I found, but everyone's already mentioned them, and I personally have no problems outside of the ones i acknowledge and at the current moment am living with. Try asking yourself if you are here to play, or to test, maybe then people can realise that it may be better to side a passenger seat to the alpha process and wait for a more complete and stable modification. Food for thought.

Guys, this alpha's horrible, as a tester I'm gunna totally post what I did in this patch and how I failed horribly because that's exactly whats going to help the dev team if I constantly repeat obvious problems. 1. I remade my character because I wanted to test out the difficulty of the new patch without all my amazing gear, started off next to Komarovo. Been a while since I've played and was quickly punished for my evil lack of movement knowledge and had to hide on the docks from the small horde I had collected while I got my bearings. For the first time in this game I was genuinely frightened, what with the complete lack of gear I suddenly realised I had in my backpack after a joyful run across the beach like I was on bay watch. I figured I didn't really have much chance sitting on my ass watching the new animations attempt to flail at me, so I bolted into the nearby building, circled around the group and sprinted out not being followed. I then got to Balota, learning from my previous mistake I took sneaking a little more seriously, with the new mechanics I had to check where the zombies were looking before moving myself, rather and side strafin' crouched everywhere to ensure zero visibility and sound. Scared and losing hope from the forums constant bashing from the lack of loot and new reaper zombies I scanned the small military base beside the airfield from afar, and took to my usual sweep of the towers. Much to my suprise in the first tower I came across? Your typical beans and soda, as well as magazines to a weapon I wish I had.. This place was bound to have someone else near with a 50 strong server population. Next tower? an M1911, with clips to match. Next came a whole pile of flares and chem-lights, and finally a flash-lighted Remmy, not exactly my choice of weaponry but who am I to complain. I left the base a little too suddenly it seemed, attracted a small pile which forced me to sprint into the airfield control tower with more gathering from every step, this time trying to circle around them left me in a sandwich of Zeds. I swallowed my conservationist attitude and cleared my back and front, taking a fair few hits through the stairs I hid under, though quickly moving from floor to floor to avoid an overall onslaught. Food consumed, my Remmy now Remmyless and a single mag left slid into my firearm, I seemed to have left before looking back to see a new horde take the place of my last shooting gallery, and with my food consumed and gun reloaded I moved onto Cherno.. God knows what lay ahead for me there, but it was what I needed to do to guarantee a survival or a quick death, I hadn't had so much fun in DayZ since the Bandit hunts months before the initial horde of players. .. Wait, I think I did the whole 'complain story' wrong. TL;DR? How about 'Cant read? real shame.'

What a great way to introduce someone to the alpha test of a game. ''the game is just horrendously unplayable now'' Thats just, the best pull I've ever heard. The point is there though, this new update is ushering in a whole new level of pain and misery for the player, and thus the butt-hurt isn't shy of following close behind as the name suggests. Allow me to shed some light on your first encounter with this in development modification in alpha stages. The game has only today taken a turn in spawning where your character starts off without a way to defend yourself other than your wits and sneaking skill, this is very difficult right now with some of the new zombie animations and system not in full swing yet, you'll find the specifics to that in the announcement thread being butchered by the complaints as you're hopefully reading this. The ArmA map of Chenarus has many closed buildings as it was not made for thus purpose, you can either play through the game and learn up on what building models are enterable, or find a map or loot list which shows you first hand what places are enterable in each area. Sneaking has become pretty challenging since the patch, and admittedly it needs to continue to roll over the large dents it has caused. If you still wish to try your chances however pay attention to zombie direction and keep prone pretty much all the time when not wall hugging, this will prevent an angry horde being up in your face. Also look to the Eye and Ear icons, the more noise you're making etc, the higher these will be. Trial and error to keep things general, this game is not forgiving nor will it ever be. So even though you may die and die and do some more of that dying thing, be prepared that you're going to lose your things and progress very quickly, and be ready to learn from mistakes.. Though obviously not if its the silly zombie combat system being a little buggy right now. Don't give up on this mod, and you'll be up there with the veteran survivors in no time~ Ricochet:.

Hate to be the one to repeat this to keep it fresh in a key thread in the forum but, this is an alpha. Systems which have been newly implemented are here from a small contribution of the community convincing the top dog that it's what the 'people' want, then put into action to see how those people and others react to it and adjust accordingly. Zombies are being adjusted slowly and surely to make sure that no system is taken too harshly in one direction, resulting in a rebound effect from the part of the community asking for a very specific change. Baby steps are taken in areas which have not yet been covered to see how we react to them, where as areas which are long going the need to be repaired are surely on the list, though the idea that its an alpha is being used to give people the natural perspective to look upon it with a grain if not a heap of salt. We are testers in a mod going on game at this rate which could have easily been handled behind closed doors, and had an open beta by Rocket and the gang when they felt it was up to their specs, and considering the enthusiastic community and their responses to this.. Imagine what kind of influx of hype and change would have come about from it being released to the public before all this. Read Rockets post, take into account what he says about the animations and limitations for zombies which he is implementing to counter-act the problems which have rose from the snippets of miscalculations. Ask yourself whether you are willing to 'test' The reason quite a few people purchased ArmA to perform for this rising modification, or if you think its wise to sit this small patch out until the game becomes playable enough for you to simply 'play' As a non-contributing person simply along for the ride. Problems go to the area of the forum which addresses problems, rather than a soon to be 100 page thread which is simply a notification that somethings being done to the game, which the above question is being directed to. Something a lot of people should be asking themselves for every patch of this alpha test. Richocet:.

I see you didn't get the memo, You'll be my first response and post on the forum \o/ Why was the weapon, along with essential goods removed from the spawn cluster in the new update, what response would you like to hear? The logical, or the straight forward? Well logically why would you even wash up on a shore in the middle of nowhere in an eastern European country with nothing but a pistol which you 'magically found' and a nice stash of food and medical supplies ready to take on the zombie apocalypse by running into the first person you see and shooting them within ten minutes of playing for the hell of it and their beans... Wait.. But to be serious, this is supposed to be your dawning, imagine the doorstep of your house being the shore at the end of the world, gunna go grab your trusty makarov from the top draw? No, but you're right in saying you would at least grab some food. This new fundamental aspect of the game makes you act upon the very logic you have put forward.. Rather than saying: Alright, time to shoot some random people I find on the way to Cherno, you instead realise the panic of your situation. You have no food, no form of defence, in a world which is without a doubt unforgiving, this is DayZ, or at least what Rocket it intending it to be. The dangers more sudden and close, the need to ask others for help is there sooner but still not needed for those who would rather go it alone, the instant urge to survive rather than thrive of others or go get a revenge kill on that guy who shot you up in the castle is right in your face the moment you start playing. Maybe you disagree with this new change, but that is the fact of what this change hopes to bring to the table with players new and old, and with the way Rocket is putting this alpha in forms of direction its going to probably get a lot worse in regards to the environment over that asshat with a rifle on top of Elek. This isn't for the best, but it wasn't meant to be, so take it on the chin or find another game.. No harshness intended. Richocet:.
