can you play dayz arma 2 mod with standalone online?

I have the Arma 2 Dayz mod. My friend has the standalone. Can I play online with him ? do I need to download anything. What do I do? ( besides buying the standalone lol ) if it is possible, I need very clear instructions as I am new to dayz . Thanks ! :)
