Filling magazines with rounds should take time (animations)

I own a Finnish M39 Mosin, but not a bent bolt one. I think the bent bolts on Mosins were made simply for the ability to operate the bolt itself with a scope attached, not for the ability to use a stripper clip.

    My adventure with Jesus

This. Who is the greater fool? Is it the fool, or the fool who follows him? Not too late to change your ways and do the right thing if your story is true, OP. This hacker may have decided it would be fun today to be friendly to you, but what about those he killed on your behalf? What if tomorrow he likes to grief and hack every player on whatever server? Don't try to justify what can't be justified simply because his cheats benefited you in this instance.

What we need are rifle slings. I'm sure this has been suggested somewhere. A rifle sling allows you to keep your weapon very near ready position across the front of your body. Obviously the game is imitating having a sling when you put it on your back, but this could be further developed. IRL there are tactical bungee slings that can keep the weapon tightly secured across your chest with minimal movement but allow it to be pulled into aiming position immediately as well.

Filling magazines with rounds should take time (animations)

All I can say is how do we get you on the dev team? Again, great idea that there could be more than one option for how to approach a given action - options that weight favor towards ability to react differently to a given possible scenario. At a basic level, eating with two hands could be easier and quicker and the cancel action takes a second or two longer as the weapon is shouldered, but eating with one hand, while very slow, allows the player to keep their weapon equipped and reflexively and instantly drop the food item to raise the weapon.

Filling magazines with rounds should take time (animations)

Great points throughout your post. I agree that animations and consequences of cancel action need to be better thought out. Also a fantastic point that taking a drink or even filling a canteen should not require shouldering your weapon. IRL, you could and should do some these actions with one hand still on your weapon, and canceling the drinking action should be a nearly instantaneous reflex. Some things, however, like eating canned food could be argued would require both hands. Love the idea that canceling something mid-action results in dropping whatever item you were using. IRL, if you got attacked while eating your sardines and had to go for your gun with a jolt of adrenaline and fear, that can of sardines would be on the ground and forgotten for the moment in no time, not safely back in your pack. But you're right that this would not be realistic for simply stopping mid-action for another reason like avoiding getting too stuffed, etc. It will always be imperfect either way, but here's to hoping the devs will continue to put more thought into these small details which actually have a big effect on gameplay.

Magnum vs. 1911 which is better

The engravings are pretty awesome. The Revelation side is like a prophetic prediction of the destructive setting and the Corinthians side is like a warning to whomever would wield the weapon to consider carefully the power they hold in their hand and the choices they make in how they will use it.

Magnum vs. 1911 which is better

Indeed. I saw your post about the engraving on the 1911. Did you ever find out what the opposite side engraving says? No one answered your that in your thread. Here it is: Revelation 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword

Filling magazines with rounds should take time (animations)

Absolutely - this is a must! And I agree there needs to be an animation that accompanies. Holding mag in one hand and hand motion to add each round into the magazine. Would also like to see them add more stripper clips / loading tools with a different animation.

    Character Independence and Gear

I like all of your ideas as long as they're well refined and implemented. On this point I also agree and this is why I think simply having said "manual" in player's possession should be all that is required. I think it's an item that shouldn't take up an inventory "slot", however as, let's face it, maintenance and taking apart most weapons like an AR or AK is extremely simple once learned and in reality the manual shouldn't have to be carried around and referred to every time this action needs to be performed thereafter.

New SSD and OS - migrate data

I just bought a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB and a new Windows 7 64 bit OS to upgrade from my very old 500GB HDD and Win7 32 bit. My GPU and CPU and other components are all pretty decent I think Sapphire 7950HD with boost and i5 4440. I read a post Rocket made about how an SDD is the best way to improve performance / FPS in towns - I'm going so low on FPS even on low pop servers that I CTD in towns and I feel the aging HDD that might not even be 7200 is to blame. I don't use my computer for much besides playing a few games - everything else is on my macbook, so I don't need much room for data and files. I'm thinking everything can easily fit on the 250GB SDD. Question is, what's the best way / order / method to install the new OS and then everything from the old HDD to the new SDD? What should I make sure to do, what should I avoid, etc.? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Can somebody please explain;

Private shards, Rambo, private shards! I'm with you on your views for the game man. I think that when the private servers / shards and whitelisting are implemented it will help to divide the DayZ population into communities with that enjoy different aspects of the game. Pure PvP'ers will be able to join server communities where everyone wants to deathmatch and kill each other all day long, assuming that's still a viable way to play given the server tools and all of the survival elements. Role Players will create their own communities, just like DayZ Role Play for the mod. And general PvE'ers will create their communities as well. This will open up the game to a lot of possibilities, especially if you can find a well-admin'ed community with tight whitelisting. Of course there will always still be the internet jerk sociopath grief trolls who try to get their fetish by infiltrating non PvP communities to kill the unsuspecting, but again, this will be minimized by well-admin'd communities. I believe that some communities will think of creative and smart ways to maintain a reasonable and more "real-life" balance of risk, banditing, and being killed outright while fostering more PvE and helpful interaction, trading, etc. Some rough ideas would include allowing banditing within a set of rules like Dayz Role Play in the mod which limit or outlaw outright KOS, to allowing individuals or groups to rotate or sign up on their forum or website for bandit / KOS rights for a given period of time, etc. I'm like you in that I would want to maintain some real risk but really don't play DayZ for a deathmatch experience.

    Might as well fight

Wow. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're being sarcastic. For those that do actually think this way, please do uninstall the game then and go back to one of the dozens of mindless shooter games where that attitude belongs. Do people really think being able to run around all day in the cold and rain in the middle of Eastern Europe in soaking wet clothing and never getting hypothermia is authentic? Get out from behind that computer and outside in nature every once in a while and get a dose of the harsh reality. Yes in this situation getting rained on and not doing anything about it is exactly what you should expect would get you killed, and more quickly than many apparently realize. The game is not even attempting to be an "authentic" zombie survival game without this kind of mechanic.
  13. dashender7

    Idiot.

That's true and a great point. Definitely the panic is understandable in this game. I still get a jolt of adrenaline every time I see another player. Really impressive in the video how everyone kept their cool. I want to take the OP at his word that he and his buddies would like to have helpful interactions, so I suppose I'm trying to sort of coach him on how to set that tone. It seems that many of us let that fear take over, which causes us to try to interact from an aggressive position of power to control the situation which actually undermines the safety of everyone involved and sets the stage for a situation where 9 out of 10 times someone's character dies anyway. It is possible to learn to control that adrenaline and channel some situations toward being positive or friendly and I believe that to do so often requires truer strength and control of one's faculties and a far greater challenge which can be very rewarding. Simply screaming, cursing and shooting at everyone that moves out of one's own fear of losing something, be it pride, gear, or whatever, is really pretty mindless and base behavior in comparison to becoming skilled at defusing tense situations and earning someone's trust. (Not saying to let your guard down or be naïve, however, as many will try to betray your kindness for a little gain.)
  14. dashender7

    Idiot.

This is indeed the experience of myself and most other players - if an individual or group starts an interaction aggressively and on edge, 99% of the time it ends very badly for you - most of the time some jerk in the group will just shoot you in the end anyway just because he can't resist the urge. At the very least it shows they are afraid of losing their gear by not having total control of the situation, which indicates they would gladly rather "have to kill you" that risk anything to have a friendly interaction.
  15. dashender7

    Idiot.

I agree here man. The tone of voice and the aggressive commands set the tone for that interaction from the start. If there are 6 of you it it's really not a convincing excuse to say you felt so threatened by one guy with an axe that you had to start yelling at him like a bandit. If you want to say that you're friendly and try to help people, don't initiate altercations so aggressively - you set a tone that tells 99% of people you are not friendly. Anyone in his position would naturally assume you have nothing good in mind and you just want to torture him once you disarm him. He'd rather just go out swinging and respawn than be subject to that, and all he had to go by was a bunch of you yelling aggressively at him and pointing your weapons. On the other hand, if you really do have non-bandit intentions, starting off with "hey mate, want to trade or chat, how you doing?" or if you're not out to murder him but don't want to interact, just say, "hey friend, we're a big group and we've been getting attacked, please either put the weapon away or keep your distance" would be appropriate. At that point if he doesn't comply or comes after you, shooting him would be more justified. The laughing and gloating after you and your buddies all mowed him down like a firing squad doesn't help convince anyone you're not out there to entertain yourselves at the demise of others. Your play style is not on trial - what's being questioned rather is your saying one thing about what you intended but all the evidence and signals show otherwise.

    Singing To A Guys Girlfriend.

Had to check out your other videos. Best thing I have ever seen in Dayz right here. Props again man.
  17. You are my new hero. We should have an in-game jam session some time. Except I'm in San Diego, CA so I don't know about the ping. Why do people have to be so absolutely terrible? It's like the vast majority are missing every part of their brain that could enjoy anything besides other people's misfortune. Very sad yet uplifting tale of humanity. A true martyr.

Ability to label gear with pen

Yes, yes, and yes. Should be able to add a piece of duct tape to most items to label them. And should always have the ability to remove and discard the label.
  19. dashender7

Ability to label gear with pen

And duct tape could have potentially more useful utilities in game than just about any other item! Really hope they get creative with it.
  20. Hicks on Twitter: [Twitter] [Hicks_206] Keep your eyes out for the status report tomorrow on http://t.co/VazfoHmycf - should have it out for you guys right around lunch Anybody know what he's referring to? Is it supposed to be obvious and am I missing something?
  21. Read that wrong - thought for some reason he was referring to something specific like an update or feature that would be within a status report. / Thread. Thanks Grindstone.

Ability to label gear with pen

This is an excellent idea OP. I was just thinking the same with regards to the yellow protector cases. Really hoping they give us the ability to label them. One thought, especially with regards to the protector cases, would be to "craft" a label by combining/using a piece of duct tape with the protector case, giving you a strip of duct tape on the case which can later be removed. The next step would then be to use a pen to write on the duct tape on the case to use it as a label which can be seen in your inventory. This would be especially helpful once persistent storage works better as people begin to store more items in tents and bases.

Yes please. Would love to see working watches in game.

    Rain water and buckets

Agreed. This is a mechanic that needs to happen. Glad you can at least catch water with a canteen - I do this all the time.
