From all the experience that I had in 0.58 and the many guns and binoculars that I have lost, it looks like the source of the bug (not the gun holstering, that seem to be a network issue and players around you) has to do with changing items in your hands while in an animation. From reports of friends and mine, if you are in the middle of an animation and decide to change items in hand, or if you do it right after completing the animation (but due to desync the server thinks you are still in the middle of it), you get 2 items in your hand, one of which you can't see and the other that you can see (when you open your inventory) but not interact with it (like putting it on the ground or on your inventory). Since then, I have been taking a couple seconds between each action (like drinking, eating, putting my gun or any item away, or cutting trees). I also stopped using the hotbar to switch items, I first open inventory, press X to remove item/gun from hands and only after a second I press the hotkeys to get the other item I want. I have not lost anything else after adopting that behaviour.

Yes, I was inside the same house for about 10 minutes before it happened, it was just gone... I checked everywhere and had friends checking as well...

Worst part of DayZ is bugs that make you loose your gear permanently. There are a few atm in EXP. Everything else is pretty manageable.
-
Play on experimental servers. They fit the description.

Lost two AK 101s to the inventory bug. Don't open food lying on the ground if you don't have inventory space for it and with your gun in your hand, that is how I lost my first AK (and I was not double carrying). My second AK I lost by pressing the X in the inventory, to get it off my hands... I haven't tried to reproduce that though because I need to find another gun now. Everytime I go meet a friend or a group of them while carrying my gun in hands, it gets holstered by itself when I am about 600-700 meters from them. It is a player detection mechanism atm... From all the times I had it holstered, only twice I couldn't find a player near me, but probably because I was passing through small cities and someone might have been running in the woods as well. I am yet to find someone without my weapon not being holstered by itself 1-3 minutes before. Cooking still isn't working, I need to try tanning pelt and I haven't had the chance of testing the hypothermia bug, had been wearing a full ghillie until I died yesterday due to a server crash and spawning in the middle of the tents in the NWAF... People have been crashing the hardcore servers every couple hours.
-
Probably fixing the hypothermia bug, the dupping with cooking pots and a bug that crashes the server.

Just two days ago, in experimental, I shot a bandit from about 90m away with my blaze, his friend charged towards me, I ran to the building next to me and took my pistol out. My first shot landed on his arm, which made him sway and miss an entire RAK mag on me... He was just 25m away, on the street, shooting me through a window while I was crouched in the middle of the room. Hit him about 3 more times, but he still ran away and combat logged inside another building, panicking... After that incident, I always carry a secondary, it is certainly worth it, even if your primary is close range.

Regarding boats and netting spawns, some people don't know this yet, but the boats that spawn loot are now dynamic. This means that all the boats that you see on DayZ Map, showing their locations, they are all static boats, part of the environment now, and they don't spawn loot. Dynamic boats spawn throughout the coast, not sure how many spawn per server, I heard someone saying 10, but I don't know where they got that number. They are not marked on any maps, just run through the shoreline and you will eventually see a boat with a bunch of loot around it. Don't bother server hopping, they are dynamic. I found 3 boats on a single run from Kamenka to Solichiniy before a server restart. After 5 boats, I finally had the netting for a full ghillie.

As far as I know, just put it on the grass near a city and wait (like, 80m away from the closes building). It takes a while... Check to see if the trap disarmed itself every once in a while. It can take anywhere between a few minutes to half an hour to get a rabbit. I will get more information from him when I see him online.
-
I have a friend who constantly catches rabbits on the latest patch, so, confirming, they are working.

Does a single player lagging cause server wide desync issues?
non-orthodox posted a topic in General Discussion
I have been playing on a private shard server for 20 days now. Today I was having some lag issues because of a thunderstorm around me (it's summer here, lots of thunderstorms), but I decided to play regardless. Half an hour later, an admin banned me from the server. I was on their teamspeak server, so after the ban, the admin came to my channel and told me that my ping was fluctuating too much (reaching about 700ms for a few seconds at a time), and that such thing caused issues with server wide desync, and for that reason, he decided to outright ban me. He actually said that my lag caused other people to not be able to eat canned food, make splints and so on. I come here to ask you devs, can that be true, or is just an invalid argument that a single player lagging can cause massive desync issues with players all over the map? Shouldn't the lag affect only the player lagging? -

Cannibalism / Skin & Quarter Issue
non-orthodox replied to Death By Dodo's topic in General Discussion
If you are skinning something, place the knife in your hands, start the skinning and hold W. Don't do the F11 trick, it will say there was nothing of value in the carcass, if you do so (at least that has been my luck lately). -
Been alive for 10 days now in a private shard, 4 hours restart, persistence disabled server. Fully geared, smersh vest, ttsko clothing, full ghillie (the top, not the unpaintable full body one), ak101 with all attachments (found my first supressor 10 minutes ago, yay!), double high cap vests inside my inventory for even more space, survival tools, cr75 with a couple mags (dying to find a pistol supressor...), etc. I have never had this much fun in any of the past updates, congratz devs on 0.52! Lost a few lifes to stairs and glitched buildings since the release, but I stopped climbing them and now it's a non-issue.
-
I have had absolutely no problems finding mags. In fact I got more mags than I need and have been trying to find someone to give an ak101 with a couple mags... It is in a private shard, that's the only reason I can't give it to you. Just go to the military base southeast of Pavlovo, look in the 4 long barracks there and you should find one. If not, move to Zelenogorsk and hit the other two barracks there. If you haven't found any, wait for a restart and do it again (assuming a persistence disabled server).
-
Been alive for 9 days now in a private shard, first person server with persistence off and 4 hours restarts. I must have gone from Sverograd to Pavlovo and back probably around 10 times by now, if not more, in this life alone. I am yet to see the PM73 RAK, even though I hit probably about 15 helicrashes this life (that's where they spawn right?). I also have never seen Joey X sunglasses (not sure if they still in the game or not), haven't seen big military tents (do they even spawn in non-persistent servers?), chainsaws or cleavers. Apart from those items, n the past 10 days, I have seen people find everything, from multiple combat knifes, to fully knitted FNX45s, including amphibias with mags, mp5s and so on. Currently I am: - Full ghillie (using top+head+gunwrap, not the unpaintable full body one) - Smersh vest with backpack attached - Ak101 with pso scope and 5 clips (been waiting for someone to take 2 clips off me, no need for them) - Cr75 with 2 mags - Ammo box, 2 high cap vests (one inside the other, for storage) - Tools (sewing kits, matches, binoculars, rangefinder, first aid kit, improvised knife, etc) - Etc. Really looking for a couple supressors (pistol + east silencer)... They are darn hard to find in persistence off servers (teddybears doesn't always spawn under the trees, usually you only see 1 or 2 as well...). EDIT: Just found my first supressor, now I just need a pistol one. Also found a NATO version, giving it to a friend with the m4 =)

Ever since I started playing DayZ, I always wanted to play the hero, helping others out and hunting bandits (specially the second part). Today, after 200 hours of gameplay, I finally managed to do so. After going basically around the whole map, I found a bandit camp outside Electro, with 3 bandits active, shooting bambis in Electro. I sneaked upon them and killed them, from 50m away, 10 minutes apart, and they didn't even see me with my ak101! Today was a good day, and this is my story: Spawned in a server, near Svetlo. I was actually pretty frustrated because I had a fully geared character reset after trying to connect at 09:20 to a server (I do not reconnect anymore until there are at least some ppl and it's 09:21 - hard, hard lesson learned). I walked upwards to Svetlo, found a black drybag and a firefighter axe and proceeded to scavenge for food and other things. After finding 5 composite arrows, I decided to give the bow a try, found myself a machete, found a chicken thing and gathered 20 feathers. Made myself some arrows, made myself a bow and thought of playing the hero with just the bow for a while. Found a bambi in Novo, didn't even have a bag, I gave him a canteen (found 3 of them in 10 minutes =S), but when he was about to get it, I decided to handcuff him to see how the handcuffs worked (I had never had the chance to put them on someone). So, when I told him to break free, it turns out that neither of us really knew you had to crouch before you pressed A and D, so I told him to wait while I went to the industries on the outskirt of Novo, to get a hacksaw. 10 minutes later, I came back, he was gone (he had googled and found the way of breaking free). I saw then the same guy (he was wearing a white construction hat) right outside the building, I ran up to him and crafted him an improvised backpack. He thanked me quite a bit, and we looted some food together before both of us had to go for lunch. Now alone, when I got to Novo, I found a guy outside the police station, who just asked me to kill him. He had friends in Electro and argued that it was too far for him to walk there, so he wanted to get a new respawn... I almost left him there alive, but then again, it's fairly easy to get yourself killed in Novo, so I tried to bow on him (I needed a target, after all). Another lesson learned, do not aim in first person, the arrow will land anywhere but where you think you are aiming at... Hit him in the chest (aimed at head, on third person - he was 20m away, should have aimed higher), he dropped dead. By the time I reached Severograd, I was a bit frustrated with the lack of military loot, I had visited every single police station, fire station, prision and barracks between Svetlo and Severo, with the exception of the NEAF and Krasnostav (I was sure those would be a deathtrap on a full server). I had a feeling that if I carried on, I would reach some military building PACKED with loot, since all of those were completely empty. When I got to the gas station on the west side of Severo, I tried to blow it up with my improvised arrows... Turns out that improvised arrows are TERRIBLE to hit anything further than 10m away, and I didn't want to get myself blown up with the gas station, so I figured I needed a real gun and proceeded to Novaya Petrovka. I hadn't visited Novaya before, I actually liked the city, it looks pretty different from the others. But still no good loot, just zombies to kill, so time to head off to Toploniki (heck, I was almost there already, why not) and then NWAF. I was happy that when I reached NWAF, it was early in the morning, so very few people were around. On the north of the airfield, I came accross SKS ammo and found one SKS at a broken tank, kissed my bow goodbye and hoped for the best, proceeding to the actual airfield. Luckly, I came across a single person in the entire airfield, who heard me from afar and started screaming "Friendly? FRIENDLY?". Lol, he was more scared than I was. He was server hopping, because it was a Brazilian server and the guy was speaking English with an American accent. I thought of killing the server hopper, but he was gone as soon as I said friendly. I had my SKS out, so I guess he didn't want to stay and find out how trustworthy I was. Absolutely NO loot on the airfield. Not even gorka clothing. I would have to stay with my summer hunter pants and green raincoat for a while longer. At least I had now an UN helmet. I always toyed with the idea of using the UN helmet all the time, but the light blue really sucks for camouflage, you can be seen from afar, but for now, I didn't have much to lose, I had no military gear, my most valuables were a lockpick I had found, and a longhorn with 4 bullets... Time to hit up Vybor, before heading to the military camp just southeast of it. Vybor had nothing as well, and I wondered why I would even bother going to the military camp, I was pretty sure it would be empty too. Boy, was I wrong... When I hit there, I could barely get inside the actual building, with all the backpacks and loot on the ground, on EVERY single barracks, or even the prision! I was so happy! There were about 3 to 5 AKs in every room in each barrack. Loot was on top of more loot, and it was really hard to go through it all. In the end, I left all my stuff outside and proceeded to put things into things until I could sort all the loot. I was done in the second barracks, after I found the third ak101 clip I wanted. From there, I had everything I had when my character got reset, on Saturday... Autumn gorka clothing, uk vest DPM camo, hunting backpack, ak101 with PSO-01 scope, makarov with 3 clips, longhorn with ammo, binoculars, rangefinder, gorka helmet with visor, my shades and a white balaclava (I couldn't find a green one so far, like i had on my previous life). I was pretty happy =) I figured, finally, now i can go hunt bandits without having to worry about camouflage or having a decent weapon. Put my shades on, and headed towards Cherno, avoiding roads. When I got to Cherno, the server had only 10 people in, so I thought of moving to Electro, as Cherno sounded pretty dead, zombies everywhere, not a single noise at all, after 20 minutes waiting. I headed to a good spot in Electro, where I get vision from not only the hospital, but both firestations, police station and more importantly, the sniper hill. A few people walking around, one on top of the hospital, looking around but with no guns out, another on the police station fighting off zombies, but absolutely no shots heard. Then, server restart... Took some time, when I was about to log back in, I saw another server with over 30 people in it (I only play on those two servers). So I decided to get there and hope for being luckier spotting bandits. As soon as I logged in, I heard shots. It sounded like a m4, but I wasn't sure, I hadn't heard m4s firing in a while. And there was also a mosin shooting, from the same location as the m4, the sniper hill. I could hear a SKS inside the city, but I figured it was someone already doomed to die to the bandits on the hill, so after having a good idea of where they were on sniper hill, I started moving around it to get them from behind. I didn't know how many they were, or if they had support around the hill, so I decided not to risk and took the long route. went as far as Topolka Dam, before crossing the road (I was west of the sniper hill), and proceeded to climb the mountain... I could hear the shots pretty close, but I had no idea how close, so I went prone and started rolling all the way there. After about 200 meters of climbing the back of sniper hill like that, I reached the top and couldn't believe my eyes, there were bags and bags, clothing and clothing of military loot, from smersh vests, hunting backpacks to the new military backpacks I forgot the name of. I didn't know how far they were, but I went to check what was in them, and they were filled with ammo and other stuff. There was a skull balaclava damaged, I had looked for one of those for AGES, so I put them on and proceeded to locate my foes. I was worried they might come back to the camp, so I picked a good spot behind a tree on the east side and waited to hear another shot from them. My fears came true, and they were talking with someone while climbing up. One was in military gear with a m4, another while just a white shirt and a blue drybag + mosin, and the third only had a backpack. I was prone, so I didn't want to risk shooting them and missing (aiming in DayZ or Arma, for that matter is really odd, there is a small movement delay which always fucks up with my aim quite a bit). All 3 of them were on the upper side, 20 meters away, after failing to spot me, even when I saw the mosin guy looking straight at me while walking towards the camp. I knew I had to take down the m4 guy first, but it wasn't a good shooting position while they were moving. I said fuck it, let me do it before one of them gets another m4, so I shot him while prone, at 30m, 7 times before he got out of sight. I thought I had him, I thought that 7 shots was enough to kill one at the torso, but nope, I was wrong (I couldn't aim for the head while they were moving, I was prone, hidden and having issues with aiming in the game, I went for body damage). My bad, he didn't die, but luckily none of them saw me either. I stayed on my position for a few minutes. They tried to locate me, but goddamn, they were blind... Then I moved uphill, towards their camp, I knew at least one was there, I could hear him messing with ammo and eating. He was still with his mosin, while the m4 guy was moving down to snipe people again, and the third guy was nowhere to be seen. As soon as he started eating again, I crouched and hit 3 bullets on his head. He dropped dead, I went prone again, and the m4 guy went nuts trying to find me. He went past me 3 times, and when he was on the side of the hill to which I had complete vision, I just shot him half a clip. he dropped dead. I went to his body, he had a pristine skull balaclava and a m4 with 60 rounds mag. I decided to stay with the AK101 because of the PSO scope, so I took the balaclava and heard the third guy running around the camp. From there, I decided to just go, I had shot the 2 confirmed bandits and scored the best loot I could hope for, so I started running with a huge grin on my face. I was done, I accomplished the single thing I had tried to, after 200 hours in DayZ. Thank you for this game. EDIT: Pic or it didn't happen:

Storytime: Just reached my endgame

Thanks alot =) On what is true and isn't, all I said actually happened, what I didn't say though is that I left the m4 there, and I didn't hide neither of their bodies, so in the end, they still got their gun and will be able to recover the loot and shoot people. I should have hidden the bodies, but I had never gotten to this point in the past. And I was also afraid that one of their friends would log on in their camp and kill me. That said, I only shot people that I saw sniping bambis. No one saw me, so I didn't get shot by anyone else, if that wasn't the case, yes, I would have to kill them too, even if it was a bambi thinking that I was the one shooting him/her. -
Has anyone found themselves locked in yet?
non-orthodox replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Server crashed with me inside a prision. Instead of waiting, I logged into another server and found myself inside a locked down prision. No worries, I had a lockpick, but also an axe, one hit with it, I was free to go. You can break locks with literally anything, even screwdrivers or bare hands. -

Thanks alot =) I will be working for a while now, but I will post new stuff, when it happens. Thanks for the incentive! This makes absolutely no sense. It is not even wrong... -
After 2 days trying to hunt bandits in Svetlo and Nova, I finally found someone (during this whole time, I had only seen 2 freshspawns running around and one getting shot, but couldn't find the bandit because server restart...). They were both sniping ppl from the apartment behind the hospital in Nova. I talked to them a bit, asked for food, they weren't helpful, and second guy pretended he wasn't there, even though I saw him. They carried on sniping people while talking to me (one had SKS, other had Mosin), but I couldn't let that happen. So I climbed a higher apartment tower, sniped one, but didn't see the other coming down. I thought he was prone next to the edge the whole time, except he wasn't, climbed upstairs and found me. I had just climbed down the ladder, so I didn't have my gun on my hands, I tried to grab it, but I couldnt, after spamming 2 for my gun and trying to run away from him, he missed almost a full mag, but then broke my leg, and now that I finally get my gun out and go crouched, I shoot him once, he lands me a headshot... Goddamn buttons lagging =P

Minimum Viable Gear - All you need in as few slots as possible
non-orthodox posted a topic in General Discussion
Back when I started playing DayZ, I would run straight to military buildings, searching for clothes with the biggest number of slots and mountain backpacks. But later on the game, I realized that I didn't need a third of the stuff I was carrying to reach my goal of playing the lone hero. So I came up with the idea of a minimum viable gear setup, which is basically the basic things I would need to survive, deal with bandits and still have slots for filling with food and other basic stuff to give to survivors I would find on the way. I wanted then to share with you all and also get to know your own setups. It follows: So, what is your usual minimum viable setup, and for what purpose? -
If he person uses a ballistic or motorcycle helmet, I am very cautious, usually ends up in a firefight. If the person is in full cammo clothing and has a mosin or M4, KOS, bandit 99% of the time. Unless if they got a cowboy hat or a boonie, then I first communicate. Anyone in regular clothes (non-cammo) and without helmets are usually friendly.

This issue has been registered here: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15075 There are very few spawns of a pile of bullets, but no boxes of .45 ACP seem to be spawning. No one has reported finding one so far. Please vote the above bug so devs get to fix it.

Minimum Viable Gear - All you need in as few slots as possible
non-orthodox replied to non-orthodox's topic in General Discussion
I really suck at the Blaze, died while holding one way too many times before managing to hit a single shot. But it is a matter of training, I guess. I don't come around ammo for it that much though, unless it is in military buildings. The magnum is great, but damn, it is pretty loud... I died once by a gun on top of a police station who shot me 150m away and broke my leg. I didn't have a morphine, barely had anything, tried to hide, but he eventually found me. Sure, there were bushes close, and I had an axe, but there wasn't enough time for me to get to it before he got to me. But as I try to play the hero, the blood bag and saline bag is helpful when trying to save freshspawns from bandits. Only used them once though...
