    Sweating

Firstly to clarify, this isn't about labor practices, sorry to disappoint you if you're really big into 19th century working routine innovations. When our characters become hot or overheated it would be nice if it accompanied a persistent "damp" status so long as the player is hydrated. Obviously being hot or overheated quickly kills your hydration and therein lies the danger as this sweat while able to cool you down a little can only last so long. What for a normal healthy and hydrated player is a minor thing like being hot for a short term could be dangerous for one not so well off. Additionally with quick changes in temperature from the environment, night coming or the like, sweating could actually be dangerous as it make you more prone to the cold. The particulars don't have to be as I've suggested but introducing a sweat mechanic could be really interesting alongside a new stamina system.

A Normal Day in Chernarus #2

Just how stubbornly people will try to kill you for basically no reason is amazing. You should have gone through with your threat and use the hay hook to carve him up, your buddy there probably could have used the calories. :D
  3. Essentially as the title suggests, I'm curious what the next big planned or hinted feature of DayZ gets each of you most excited or you anticipate most? I realize some people are just going to answer "Rawr, fix bugs, now!" And I think that's fine, in that case, what bug in particular? Try to keep it positive and specific. To start: I think for me it's stamina. I'm really excited to see it tied to the weights introduced for items and how exactly they go about implementing it.

    Punching

Brass knuckles are totally legit in my book (and quite handy).

    Status Report - 14 May 15

Zombie removal is temporary and I look forward to see how the game changes when stable brings this temporary removal to a wider audience. It's not a huge loss for me personally as the zombies are for me a pretty minor draw of the game compared to the overall environment of Chernarus + increasingly developed survival elements + the crazy ways player interaction can go from friendly and awesome to complete douchebaggery (killing for no other reason than to kill, that's not interesting or fun and sometimes seems disturbingly sociopathic) or even bizarre and amusing (like trails of apples leading to landmines....).

    Loot; A highly debated topic.

Leave the coast, leave the coast, leave the coast - all your best options come from this first choice. The only good option on the coast is to try and ambush someone who is well-equipped and most times this will probably result in you dying. From this point you can: - Live out in the wilderness, explore and enjoy the back country life. - Find a hunting rifle or shotgun capable of taking down someone who is far more heavily equipped with the stuff you want. - Whatever the hell else you want to do. Without server hopping nonsense, the fact that military loot locations are so heavily trafficked means that you are unlikely to find the highest end stuff here if that's what you want. However finding "civilian" level stuff shouldn't be (and isn't) terribly difficult once you're in North and West and will enable you to kill military armed players - this I think should be the primary means of getting military equipment, not loot searching. Maybe you can find the odd bit or piece that has respawned or been missed at loot locations but after the initial start of an economy it should not be the main way.
  8. I guess the new renderer hasn't been all that present in my mind but it seems to be tops for most people. I'm not even really sure what to expect from it but I'm getting more excited for it just from the enthusiasm in this thread.
  9. Yeah, it's funny, that death actually bothered me. I mean, it seems even worse than getting shot like you did to that guy. Killing him as you describe was basically a momentary decision and took moments to carry out. At any point during punching me which takes far longer, this guy could have decided to be less of a douche and just steal whatever he wanted from me while I was unconscious. Killing me for him basically gave him nothing, was completely unnecessary, unless he planned on cannibalizing - which maybe he did.

    Punching

So I decided to go all necromancer on this thread to bring up again the issue of punching. We now live in a DayZ where virtually anything can be used as a weapon. I think it would be great if the devs rethought punching as we currently have it. Encourage people to use tools and impromptu weapons, they are everywhere, hell just pick up a rock and punch someone with it is better than a meaty fist. Bare fist punching just isn't very interesting and as it's implemented now it's often quite gamey and cheap. We even have brass knuckles now which could accomplish what bare-fist punching accomplishes now and make much more sense. I think it's time for one and two-hit knockouts with barehands to be relegated to the distant Dayz past. (it's also way too effective vs zeds) Tools as weapons is far more interesting and fun than knuckle-nukes: please make people pick up those lead pipes, lug wrenches and screwdrivers by making punching a pitifully ineffective alternative.

    Sweating

It's funny, I actually got overheated for the first time in a long time yesterday (since the mechanic was introduced actually) because I was cooking a bunch of pig and then putting the cooked pig steaks into my vest. So I was getting the heat of the fire, plus the heat of the meat, plus not wearing very light gear. Cooking on a stick also makes this more likely as you have to stay by the fire like you didn't have to before. Sweat would definitely be another interesting factor in dealing with fires and heat comfort.
  12. Yeah, I know that feeling well. Yesterday, I had had a lot of success as a newspawn getting up and running, then out in basically the middle of nowhere on a hill I was foraging for some berries when some dude ran up to me and started punching me in the head. Taken totally by surprise I couldn't interrupt the animation and soon was unconscious on the ground where I imagine he just continued punching me till I died. The moral of the story is: you're never safe, you're never invincible no matter how experienced you are or what gear you're carrying. :)
  13. Great story! So... 1) Currently as you read, you can only get sardines from the sea and sadly these aren't quite working right now. You get the sardines but you can't prepare them like you used to for cooking. Eating them almost always leads to food poisoning and very little nutrition. I think there is a model for a sea fish in the game files but it hasn't been implemented yet so only fresh water fish right now. 2) Make sure you have your knife if your hands when you approach killed animals, you'll get the option to skin and prepare it. Once you've done that action, you'll get lots of bits and pieces from meat to bones to guts, all with different possible uses. As for the fish only giving you guts, sadly that's something that is happening in 0.55 stable, it will be fixed in the upcoming version and you get fillets, properly. Boar/pigs/cows/goats/etc. are definitely on the map, over time you'll start to learn where to look for animals more. 3) Those servers are lying and should probably get closed down as they are just trying to attract traffic but not actually able to deliver on the promise. The only loot difference between servers has to do with public or private hive and these have separate loot economies. Arguably there's no difference in quantity of loot between them but private hives cut out the ability to server hop like you could with public.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

    Soviet-Era Greatcoat + Boots.

    Most detested item in Persistence

Right now it has to be syringes, they are everywhere - there was some serious drug abuse going on in Chernarus.

    End of Map

Best thing is to throw up an invisible barrier and populate the surrounding terrain with trees and such. That's how it seems to me anyway.

    The Forest and dugouts!

It's an interesting idea though, hopefully it gets revisited at some point, even if it's by the modding community.
  20. Well, so this post alone didn't suggest to me it was unintended but rather something they said about it previously. Can't recall the source right now though.

What is the final goal of this game?

So right now, absolutely, DayZ can be and is played by many as an open-world FPS with survival elements. It's not quite a deathmatch as not every encounter ends with people dying, even among strangers. I'm not sure how much that'll change over time but I do think the survival element is only going to be enhanced. That's not to say that the open-world FPS part of DayZ will ever go away, nor maybe should it but I expect survival will accrue more meaning over the course of development. What I do know is that if I play Survarium of Planetside 2, I can't chill out in the woods and feel very rewarded for cooking a fish fillet under the moon if I want to and DayZ absolutely allows that.
  22. There is something about this idea that appeals to me, maybe it's just that it can give a sense of story-arc in a way. Plus, the promise of feeling really lucky to have survived throughout an entire cycle. There's fun stuff that could be done with this, for sure. In general, the "you are dead" screen would be really improved with stats from your life, to give more meaning to just your personal cycle.

    Resenting DayZ

So whenever confronted with a post like this, there are a few things to consider: 1) People are capable of playing and still find things, so that very fact undermines the the position that "there is nothing", obviously there is - so what then? 2) Perhaps the person is "doing it wrong", maybe they are just inexperienced, don't know the map very well or are just hanging out on the coast or not adapting their play to meet the current conditions. 3) Perhaps they have expectations that are beyond what is offered by the current situation. I imagine the ultimate vision of the game is not that everyone becomes self-sufficient within even an hour or two of spawning - much less fully kitted with military gear. However it seems that a lot of people seem to expect exactly that. Not accomplishing it, they feel disappointed. 4) Poor priorities - people sprint around trying to meet up with their friends or to get to the nearest mil gear loot spot without satisfying more core needs (energy, hydration, proper attire) or immediately seek to fight other players. While perfectly valid as a playstyle, you're essentially gambling and this is a very high-risk, high-reward style to play, more often than not this should lead to either starvation or killed in the first hour. ---- So, if one is frustrated in an environment where other people are "succeeding" one should either: adapt their priorities, adapt their expectations, or simply try to take it a bit slower and gain more experience with the game. Embrace the challenge as something you're not really going to get in other games. Until you've found yourself popping charcoal tabs like candy so you can eat spoiled crops, guts and earthworms, you're really not trying hard enough.
  24. This is such a zombie conspiracy theory topic. It was unintended and in 0.56 is fixed:

    Electro without Zombies

Elektro should have more zombies, not less, it's a city. The fact that people use it also as an urban warzone is incidental, nothing wrong with it but that's no reason for it to not have zombies. Shoot them yourself if you want.
