Santa fox derails Exp Topic (fixed).

This is a bit odd though to be terribly concerned with. As you say, you've played nearly 1000 hours and have enjoyed it, even if at times it has been frustrating. Had they done as you offer none of that would have existed and there's no guarantee the end result would have kept your attention or given you the same amount of enjoyment. It just seems an unnecessary trip down the dark and craggy road of counterfactuals where the only thing that we can be sure would not happen is the 1000 hours of play you've already taken from the production.

Santa fox derails Exp Topic (fixed).

Hmm... good question. One way to think of it: would the project even have been possible without Early Access funding? Another: how much do the devs want player feedback to define the game? (I don't actually know the answer to either of these questions with any high level of confidence but I think they are good points to consider.) ----------- Personally speaking I'm very glad they took the route they did as even without many of its release features and despite the bugs this is one of my favorite games. I've long since got my money out of the product and more. (this isn't very hard to do with video games which are per hour absurdly cheap forms of entertainment)

    Awaiting .57

Find a dependable way to feed myself. It's the first thing I do as any fresh spawn. Everything else comes after that. :) For me that everything else is checking out map changes.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

Wow, I entirely forgot this was there. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

Perhaps tie survival-time to progression. After so many hours of active play a character gets a chance (MTTH: mean time to happen) to improve in one of a number of categories of activity weighted by participation in that activity. Any improvement must be very modest and ultimately capped to avoid super-human nonsense. Simply digging endless gardens will not speed up how fast you get good at gardening but it would perhaps make you more likely to get better at it though at a certain point it would be pointless as you're likely to get it anyway.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

So I respect the idea that losing a character often means less than losing their equipment and how that could be an issue. One partial way to mitigate this is just keeping track of stats to give the character's life meaning, simply knowing how many days or hours the character has survived gives something for people to keep track and value. I'm very very wary of the idea of having any type of skill-type progression because it seems to inevitably to lead to grinding. Grinding is the most ridiculous gamey behavior and games that feature it, suffer from it, in my opinion. The second I see some idiot digging an entire field full of garden plots for no other reason but to "increase his gardening skillz" I might get physically ill. So while I can imagine some very low-key skill system which lets you get slightly higher yields from preparing field game, for example I'm really worried it'll quickly lead to nonsense. It's hard to imagine a system design which both offers that sort of progression without also giving an incentive for silly behavior.

    Sniper Rifle?

The only sniper rifle that exists in the game is the SVD in experimental branch. You can put a scope on a mosin (or other rifle) to perform in a long-range-sniper-type role if you wish. So long as you aren't starving to death or dying some other way, it's a perfectly viable play style, so is running around in your undies and collecting worms in a courier bag for that matter.

    Tatanko's Monthly Social -- May 2015

I may be able to make a late appearance with an early baby bedtime, we'll see.
  9. A couple guys in a V3S got too close recently during night. I patiently watched as they sprinted about "looting" until they got back in the truck. Unloaded my blaze toward the cabin, the truck started but rapidly and wildly veered into a building. I didn't stick around to find out what happened to them, hopefully just spooked them and made them a bit more cautious for a while. When I see someone like OP spend 5 minutes sprinting about and "flanking" in this video to get revenge, I feel happy that they probably spent a half hour searching for me in the woods. Probably did nothing but give them a good story. :)

Hunting Scope Replacing The Long Range Scope?

Yeah, the game actually has a purpose-built sniper rifle now, it's hard to argue they are targeting "snipers". Also, mosin + pu is plenty deadly.

    Sorely needed primitive survival tweaks

I think the only suggestion I'm not on board with is the farming with a stick. This just feels a bit too far of a stretch to me. Imagine how calorie intensive it would be to actually dig up and till a bit of ground with a sharpened sick. It's not impossible but it is wildly impractical. But, I think digging up worms with an stick one at a time is reasonable (a shovel or hoe gets you 3 and 4 respectively).

    Choke Hold

If movement gets improved with sprinting all the time not an option and momentum effects are added, I could see something like this working but only on other players and not infected. The reason for the movement caveat is that Dayz characters are at the moment way too twitchy, zipping around so as to make meaningful melee very difficult: exploitation would be too easy.

    Government anti-infestation measures

I'm not sure this is the case at all. Check the evac camp at Start Sobor, clear indication that action is being taken. Myshkino military camp is not a permanent military site but one likely set up as a forward action base (probably as the conventional ones have been overrun) and this is also true for the tents north of NWA. The woods military compound above Severograd has entire pits of bodies. You can find buses across the map that are also near piles of bodies. The military convoy in the far north was probably aid coming in from abroad but never made it very far. To me the map tells a pretty compelling story but it doesn't slap you in the face with it. Edit: I fully expected this thread to be tinfoil hat libertarian spam when I first clicked. :D
  14. The hotbar is unimportant, it's amazing how quickly I stopped missing it. Loot in exp right now is fine, excepting more long-term issues like loot-splosions. Inventory bugs I think are probably the biggest issue before stable but keep in mind we haven't had a real update to exp in about a week. Lots may have changed on internal versions in that time. If we get an exp patch with a number of fixes tomorrow, say, a stable update the same week is perfectly reasonable.

    Schadenfreude Island

I think there's a bug where you basically become immune to hot/cold effects. Your body temperature drops to 35 (I think) but you aren't "cold". I've had this happen to me a couple times but I haven't been able to isolate the cause. That you were always cooling off but never cold sounds familiar from this bug.

    Status report lateness

This one this is from yesterday, this is a week with no status report yet but if yesterday Hicks is saying there will always be one every week then I take that to mean this week will be no different. That's only possible if someone from the team at least does something over the weekend.

    Status report lateness

The twitter, tweet(?), from yesterday does seem to imply that we'll get something over the weekend. Which seems crazy to me because it's probably hella expensive to get someone to work on the weekend. According to EU labor laws all members of team are probably entitled to a month of vacation at 1.5x pay for this. :D All the same if it is true they get huge respect, if not, they lose none. I'm as excited as the rest of you, channel that into positive anticipation and not negative hatefulness or silly conspiracy theories.

    Expanded Craftable items

Fair point but I'm not sure that duct tape wasn't useful repairing things even then. It's been quite a while since it was just a useless item (like literally had no use).

    Status report lateness

If you go back and read the context hopefully it'll be clear that I was mocking people who say/ask these things. :D

You forgot "lootz is broken!" and "Why do I starve to death in 3.2 seconds!?"

    Expanded Craftable items

You've lost your damn mind sir if I might respectfully say. My feet have been saved from the cold hard ground many a time by duct taping my badly damaged boots. There are some items that can only be repaired using duct tape, sure it only maintains damaged status but that's far better than ruined. Now, I know what you are thinking friend, "yes but you can always use leather sewing kits to repair your boots to worn!" This is true and alas it's also true that leather sewing kits aren't to be found in every shed, nor do they fix boots in 0.56 (a bug maybe?)... Quite seriously though, duct tape as a repair tool is very useful as it applies to basically everything and only takes up a 1x1 slot. Duct tape is on my list of "always carry one".

    Schadenfreude Island

Any ideas why they don't put something out here on the island as a cool little Easter Egg? Like maybe one of those grave markers to represent the poor bastard that gets marooned out there in the video? A couple trees and a rock. Also, why do these islands exist?
