    I think that's right. I also think that when this goes beta the improvised knife needs to get much worse at basically everything. Still, thanks for sharing this OP, I'm sure there are lots of new players (and some not so new) that don't know this.
  3. Ah, the age-old question. Really the best solution seems to be to somehow mitigate the tactical and awareness advantage that 3pp gives. There's a very real way in which 3pp, as it is, undermines many of the potential strengths of the game and yet removing it also has costs. Some sort of better 3pp really feels like the best path.

    You just gave away one of my favorite fishing spots, sir! There's a house right across the street from there with a greenhouse. I often use this village as my "recover and get green" camp.

    So this is the other extreme. Honestly I think an authenticity compromise could be made if eating raw meat had a low chance of disease transmission (not be perfectly fine). Meat should age over time and become less and less safe to eat. I would guess this is what the devs have in mind too.

    Yeah, the earthworms thing always seemed a bit odd to me. At least let us cook them. Currently they don't even give that much energy. I don't mind popping a charcoal tab after eating them if I at least get some calories but it's barely anything. :(

    Speaking for myself, it doesn't really how much or how often people die because of some moron camping a wall. What matters is that it just feels completely wrong and removes an element of surprise and tension from the game which it would benefit from and which does exist 1pp (which is itself a pretty flawed experience). Imagine playing STALKER with the current DayZ 3pp camera; it would feel so horribly hollow. I think you're right that camera abuse will never be entirely removed or "fixed" and that's fine, it can be made better though. As far as what is popular, that's a silly way to argue something. Of course lots of people like candy land easy mode. Lots of people would also like to spawn into the game with a fully kitted M4, I'm sure that would be very popular but that doesn't mean it's a good idea for making an interesting game in the long run. Don't let perfect be the enemy of "good enough". We can make 3pp better, less fruitful from abuse without trying to eliminate "peeking" altogether.
  9. A stamina system of some sort if coming. Weight will also start mattering. How all this will be implemented is yet to be seen. I'd love a nutrition system eventually too but no word on that. For now the best advice for you is to leave the coast. For the first half hour or more of your travel you'll probably need to rely on apples and berries to stay alive. As you get further from the highest traffic areas your options for energy will start to expand.

    To expand upon my earlier comment, I'm a "1pp player" whatever that means, I guess it means that I find myself gravitating toward 1pp servers. Why? Sure, wall peeking just feels cheap to me but also the greater awareness offered by default 3pp camera makes sneaking around zombies absurdly easy among other things. 1pp as it is just feels more authentic but it is far from perfect. Some things I like about 3pp: 1pp view as it is can be too restrictive. 1pp view as it is makes it very difficult to access items on top of cupboards or other areas. 1pp view as it is doesn't allow self-referential screenshots, I'm vain, this matters. Therefore, I respect that there are many reasons people prefer 3pp over 1pp without them necessarily relying on camera crutch for tactical situations. I'd much rather the choice between 1pp and 3pp to be a fluid one that happens within a game, based on a player's needs or desires for a given moment without giving gameplay weakening advantages. So I conclude that removing this nasty 1pp vs 3pp divide is the best thing to do and the best way to implement that reunion of the playerbase is by improving the 3pp camera to limit potential abuses but to maintain its other positive aspects.

    Improve 3pp camera to mitigate abuses and then remove 1pp-only mode. That's the real way forward.
  12. The June 2nd 2015 status report got me thinking a bit about player spawns... I think it might be interesting if each possible player spawn point was used in random order until all have been used once and then a new order would be established and newspawns could spawn according to the new order. One side-effect of this might be to reduce the desert effect caused by too many people moving through the same spawn locations again and again, preventing respawning in that area. While I generally think the coast shouldn't be plentiful in supplies I think artificially high traffic (typically after an update) of newspawns can make the situation worse than perhaps is ideal or intended.

    Gun Sway Poll

    It's not like real life, that's fine, the more random sway is - the better. There are lots of aspects to real-life shooting which would be impractical or simply tedious to add into the game. Just by making the initial shot slightly more difficult through adding random sway adds some amount of abstracted difficulty which can be mitigated through proper procedure (holding your breath, not having just sprinted forever, not being cold/injured, etc.).

    That's an absurdly awesome idea for a possible spawn. (instead of a flashlight you start with a lockpick) Man this just has me thinking about potential spawn themes and how great that could possibly be.

    I think that's right. An improved 3pp camera that encourages better gameplay is the way to go. No more 1pp and 3pp server divide unless you're actually going to do something to the 1pp mode that actually makes it different or more "hardcore" in some other way. I'm skeptical even of that, I want this DayZ perspective civil war to end and reconstruction to begin. :)

    I realize not everyone is a huge fan of getting a random player character (which I would love to be enforced) but I think at least randomizing clothes could be fun and interesting. Maybe you get a dress or tracksuit or canvas pants, just a wider variety of totally random civilian clothes in various states of repair but just a simple top and pants like now.

    That makes a whole heap of sense. I can't help but hope that this "issue" never gets entirely resolved. Thanks for the response sir. EDIT: Oh and thanks for the Skalisty Island spawn as that's a uniquely fun spot when you have a "only live off the land" policy. Though this whole new feature with fishing with nets may change the whole thing...

    I really liked the spawn discussion. I almost feel as though the East-West movement should be brought back so that Cherno and Elektro become destinations rather than areas one just moves through after spawning. In my first couple months of play I never went to Cherno just because of its reputation. With it being a spawn area it kinda loses that mystique as my first thought when spawning anywhere is basically, "Well let's get out of here as fast as possible." Great status report and thanks!
