    No loot in .60

Yep, apples are a great way to satisfy thirst safely. You can also most of the time just drink from ponds and streams. It's not best practice, obviously but it sure beats dying from dehydration and most times you'll be fine anyway.

    New 1PP "Hardcore" server

Sounds like one to check out. Thanks MajorMike.

A new fresh look to the airfield?

I'd love that. I'm also pretty sure it's something that they are going to do anyway as they slowly rework all of Chernarus.

    Hunting

I used to have a much easier time hunting in previous patches. I'm sure we'll get back there again. This all being said, I love the chickens being around like they are. Chickens mean easy meat but also they have bones which means fishing hooks and suddenly living off the land is immeasurably easier.

    Hunting

I've seen a mess of chickens but no larger animals yet in 0.60.
  6. Hey guys so a few patches ago we entered this new universe where a stick was a stick and bark was bark. While this does serve the purpose of simplifying tree-based crafting, I'm just not super sold on the change and increasingly I keep hoping patches will revert in some way to the previous system. Birch bark makes great tinder because birch bark is quite special in the amount of oils and such it contains. Other bark won't work nearly as well for the purpose. Ashwood sticks were required to be supple and other sticks just aren't equivalent. Make ashwoods required for bows and fishing rods again. Make birch bark the bark tinder. I see no reason to restrict hand drills in similar way, just about any stick and base could do for that. Also I like being able to take a long stick (for splitting or cooking) from any tree as it stands currently.

    Trees, sticks and crafting

Whyherro, thanks for the effort in reply and I appreciate the point you make about being able to use other white woods for the bowmaking. Where I disagree, however, is that restricting what tree you're using is needless difficulty. I used to enjoy ashwood hunting as it was a rather simple but still largely entertaining mini-goal in the game. Starting fires has gone from quite difficult until you found matches to absolutely trivial everywhere. There's a nice middle-ground in there that I'd like to see DayZ move toward. This all said, I wonder if fire-starting/making is going to be included in the soft-skill set when they start getting implemented. Perhaps the crafting know-how to even create a fire drill will require quite a few fires started and be a somewhat difficult endeavor. I guess we'll see.

    boats, islands some idea's

I would like some sort of rowboat or something (there are plenty that exist in the game as static models now). What few islands there are could be reached without the potential danger of swimming.

    Fighting back

Anyone military geared is default a bad guy in my evaluation. You don't need camo, GI-Joe crap, and an AK to hunt deer and pick off a couple zombies. Avoid them if possible and otherwise take them out and bury them and their ill-begotten GI-Joe nonsense.

    Bandit or Hero Poll

I´m a paranoid free-runner. I avoid most situations I don't feel like I can control (when I can, I'm very friendly) and if I'm cornered I'll shoot first and ask questions later (and bandage you if possible).

    Fighting back

What's funny about this is a number of the guys you are planning to kill probably think of themselves as doing what you are planning to do.

    60 Impressions?

I just want it to rain again. (that's not true there's lot of other exciting things)

[Opinion] The Value of Base Building?

I really dislike the sort of base building you see in a lot the "survival" genre. I'd much prefer to see a few pre-fab type structures available like a lean-to or even a little wooden firetower. Beyond this base building should be rickety walls, some barricades, nothing large. More than anything I'd like to see people build around existing structures.
  14. So.. I don't like declaring anything as anything de jure. That said I avoid Cherno and Electro because they attract a certain population that does make them psychotic-infested murder holes de facto. But that doesn't need to be the case and the game is ever evolving. Let's not limit the scope or potential for that evolution by making arbitrary decisions about where PVP should and should not take place.

What notice will we get for 0.60?

I imagine the drop of 0.60 will be like the entry of Thor in Kung Fury.

    Is DayZ a disappointment?

I've had enough fun with DayZ so that it couldn't possibly be a disappointment. Everything from now on is just icing to me.

Thanks for the blocker list. Very much looking forward to my return to Chernarus.

    Humanity/Morality

Maybe my experience is colored heavily by spending such a large percentage of my time in exp but most of my meetings with people in DayZ have been positive (nobody died). I understand intellectually that codz exists for some people but I have personally yet to really feel that way. Most shooting on sight I've been involved with have been in areas where one enters expecting kos to happen (military bases, etc.). But I consider those areas to be fair game. One doesn't need military equipment to fight zeds so one can infer the intentions of most people who traffic those areas (they're not friendly).

    Humanity/Morality

I understand and even empathize a bit with the reasoning behind such an idea but I also think that it comes with costs that are too great. Specifically, it alters all interactions one has with other player characters such that some are "safe" and others are not. This I think is a departure too far from the essential "freedom" premise of the game. If I see someone heavily armed with a skull bandana and I'm unsure about escaping I'll probably shoot them because c'mon, it's a skull, obviously a baddie. Similarly if I see someone who isn't obviously heavily armed and I feel confident I'll be more likely to approach them peacefully. It's an imperfect system to be sure but that's a feature and not a bug.

    DayZ at PAX East 2016

Yeah, loot is for the weak. With as many chickens as I saw in the PAX stream the only people who starve are the lazy. Best to get them out of the gene pool anyway.

Making your own knife - Could save your life

To be sure, primarily I want to see it degrade very rapidly with use.

    O.60 Servers are up?

So, I could understand that a 0.60 build exists that meets some criteria for playability for exp release and they might hold it just to control the unveiling for PAX. But, as has been pointed out, that sort of flies in the face of what the devs have said to us existing players about wanting to release it as soon as possible. Call me naive but unless we get really clear evidence to the contrary I see no reason not to take the devs at their word. It's entirely possible that the streaming build for PAX is not quite to the standard that they want for an exp release. The quantity of people trying to "break it" in these scenarios are wildly different. I'm super excited for the exp release but in the relative time since 0.59 a couple days isn't a big ask and I don't think the team want to give such easy ammunition to the haters.
  23. Honestly, I haven't the faintest idea. Luckily for me I'm not a dev.

    O.60 Servers are up?

Ha, yeah, I've been skulking around the forums for a couple weeks now waiting. This is all looking promising. It's been quite a while.
