    Anyone ever hunt rabbit?

Try the fields along the main road heading south from Zelengorsk, that's where I found a rabbit.
  2. Huh... last time I tried it (0.49 exp) I used a pot, maybe I'll give the frying pan a go again.

    EPIC REVENGE

Ha, maybe I just don't spend much time in Novo.
  4. Next iteration of advanced weather effects, diseases (from water pathogens to infections) and for the portable stove not to instantly burn food. I feel guilty having to cut down a whole tree to cook a single fish. :(

    BRM-1K

No, just ladas. And one day, perhaps ladas with rofl armor bolted onto it. Once I see a group trying to look all badass with like 4 guys packed into a lada and another 2 sitting on the trunk, my dayz experience will be complete.

    EPIC REVENGE

Is this in Novo? I so rarely see people around these apartment blocks.

Starting to think I'm too nice of a player.

It's a bug when it doesn't go away when you've recovered.

Starting to think I'm too nice of a player.

Yeah, I just don't trust people near mil loot. The other day I tried to make an exception, it was a low pop server so I figured competition would be less. I'm looking around Balota airfield and then I see a guy. I decide to wave "Hi" with f1 and show I'm not hostile, I wasn't sure if he was in mic range or not. Sure enough he crouches around some sandbags and takes a shot. It must have been a sporter because it ruined my pants but didn't cause a bleeder. Still, it caused my screen to go all blurry due to that silly display bug and so I got out of there. I was lucky really and so was he, my mosin likely wouldn't have just ruined his pants when I first saw him.

    dont under-estimate the sporter .22

I just wish you could find the 10-round sporter mags in civilian/industrial or that they were more common. The 30 feels a bit silly to me. It is a fun little gun though.

Rain will be the new night?

And this lone-wolf will be avoiding wherever that territory is by the sound of it.
  11. What will make this idea even less applicable to DayZ is when weapons (but not just weapons) begin having use-decay and potential for damage. It's all great and fine thinking you've "made it" when you have a certain collection of tools right now but what about when those supplies start running out? What about when your favorite weapon gets mangled by a zombie or you're just not able to find the materials necessary to keep it functioning in top order? What about when your boots fall apart just from use? Or that high-capacity but badly damaged backpack you found just gives out one day? Are you still end-game if you've regressed materially? Or in my case, I'm always worried the fish is going to swim off with my hook...
  12. Mitigate, not eliminate.
  13. Bicycles and other vehicles will mitigate this tension. I also expect that when horticulture/stashing/barricading start coming into play, roaming as we currently have it won't be so much of a thing for a portion of the playerbase. I expect you'll have lone-wolf wanderers who take longer to get from place to place by foot, or perhaps slightly faster with rudimentary vehicles. You'll also have larger organized groups who use more advanced transportation for deliberate travel to some specific destination or task.
  14. I have never needed a t-shirt and a wool coat on the same day in exp so far. The only reason I'd make that drastic a change is if I'm specifically trying to quickly swing my body temperature from too cold to warm or the opposite. In fact, I haven't needed a wool coat yet at all, it just hasn't been cold enough. The only times my guy has been comfortable in a wool coat has been due to specific environmental changes like my being at the top of a radio tower on a mountain. All other times it seems to lead to pretty quick heating. Once we have a night or cold weather the wool coat may be useful in the same "game day" as a t-shirt but so far no such drastic change is needed. Checkered shirts/tactical shirts and the like seem to be good for most situations during the day unless you're at extremes of altitude or, theoretically, weather. You may also try removing gloves/hats or other gear to help regulate your temperature without changing shirts/pants.

Rain will be the new night?

So here I refer back to my earlier post. You're right that some people don't want this sort of survival horror experience or don't find the nights fun. That's fine, let them go onto another server (this is an option built into the game, we should capitalize on it). You're right that many people would just "go to sleep" and this is well abstracted by a reduced server population. For those of us left willing to risk the world with a light source or star navigation, it gives a fun different experience with it's own set of risks/rewards. I think some variation in darkness level based upon moonlight would be interesting but the night should remain significant to keep this potentially exciting element in the game.
  16. I love the weather so far. It's not done yet, of course, but it's a fantastic addition. I also wouldn't worry too much as things stand. Hyperthermia right now is far easier to get than hypo (partly due to no cold weather/night occurring on exp servers) but this can be avoided by taking some cool-down breaks and just not wearing a ton of heavy/really warm gear when it's all sunny and nice out. I've actually not been able to get hypothermia at all yet, even yesterday when I was half-heartedly trying to do so in the rain. I basically just ran around wet (wasn't wearing rain gear) and despite getting lots of messages about being cold never got to a serious body heat level. I probably should have tried stripping down and sitting out in a field but I kept getting distracted.

    Character customization?

Speak for yourself, how am I supposed to play a Russian mobster with obrez if I don't have a tracksuit? As for OP, I just want a beard, that's all.

Rain will be the new night?

I'm not saying it's equivalent to software manipulation and I think you can make a case of practicality that currently it's acceptable as things stand, one can certainly make a game theory case that it's inevitable right now that people will gamma cheat. All the more reason to make it unworkable/impractical/unnecessary in the future.

Rain will be the new night?

So I think one inevitably some people will leave servers when there is adverse weather and night. That is not a reason we shouldn't expand the weather system or fix gamma cheats. Honestly, the game only becomes more atmospheric for those left on the server during these times as you might expect to see less people. Additionally, if you are prepared for these conditions you now get much more free reign around the server without having to server hop to unpopulated servers. When and if time multipliers come things will be even more improved, I'm dying for a nice day/night cycle where I know everyone isn't gamma cheating. Another thing people seem to be forgetting is that you can pack items into your clothes, a wool coat can take up zero extra space in your pack.

    Hardcore and situational awareness

The comment about people sprinting around is very true though. On a full exp server yesterday at a tree stand in the middle of nowhere I'm taking a drink from my canteen and some guy goes rushing past. I'm somewhat obscured by a bush and could easily have taken him down with my sidearm but I decided to risk it and let him know I was there over mic. Nobody died, so it was a success but I'm sure others may not have been so nice.

    Prypiat

So, while I love the idea as concept, I'm just not sure it really fits DayZ. Maybe a mod one day, a mod of a mod... What you could do maybe is have an area that has a far higher caliber of environmental danger. Perhaps a place like labs related to the infection's creation. Radiation is an idea, more zed spawns or any other combination of possibilities. We should resist the temptation to populate it with anything the community would consider "better gear" but I can see having unique clothing options found there that could seem almost a badge of "I went to X".

    Weapon Preferences

I'm a bolt-action kind of guy so always CR527 or Mosin (no LRS) for me. Automatics are easy-mode. I'm really liking the Makarov as a sidearm lately. Sadly, I can't participate in your poll as it makes the insulting assumption that I'd keep an assault rifle as a primary. :(
  23. Funny you say that, killed a guy who had an AKM today, used it to clear the outside of the building and then ran off. Eventually I dumped it in some random bush and went on my way. Maybe someone will find it before it despawns but until then that's one less annoying assault rifle out there.
