Rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer

Why? Melee weapons are perfectly capable of killing zeds, you'll just take a few hits in the process. Sometimes, that's just what happens. My current guy found a p1 pistol but I don't have a mag yet. So if I shoot for a head and miss with my chambered round, I often have to finish them off with my hatchet.

Change the contents of 1st Aid Kits

I just replace the contents anyway. First aid kit is a great place to keep your splints, auto-injectors, alcohol, thermometer, etc. That the blood transfusion equipment is in there bundled does a lot to enable people to use that functionality.

    Need a Few Tips (Food).

Best way to hydrate if you're worried about getting sick and don't have pills is to use apple trees. Apples don't have a ton of calories but they are really good for hydration. Zombies: shoot them. Only melee if you absolutely have to or aren't worried about getting smacked around a bit. Best thing to do: avoid them - be all sneaky. Food: Grab a bag of lime and hug it like your girlfriend. Find some seeds and some water and you'll be fine. I always carry a potato in my pocket.

What do you think about the new update .55

The patch is great and while maybe tents were a bit funky, persistence itself isn't wholly not working. You can leave stuff on the ground over the course of a sever reset and it'll still be there - which is huge.
  5. So looking forward to getting cholera!

What do yu want in DayZ servers these days?

    - Between 20-30 players currently as more than that affects some actions (skinning, drinking, etc.). - Complete but faster day/night cycle, a 4x-6x rate would feel nice giving one the ability to experience more conditions during a single session. - Persistence enabled. - Not dedicated or focused to either PvP or PvE, however I rather like the idea of designating one part of the map as a PvP zone so it attracts that crowd and also creates a particularly dangerous spot for everyone else. One day it would be nice to also have rare loot servers where basic survival is made more difficult.
  7. As far as people moving further inland or anywhere but Elektro, one thing discussed in recent status reports is that they are still working on the loot distribution system. Specifically, a system where they can control what sort of gear spawns where more than just in "x type of building". Focusing certain types of gear in certain areas of the map, as seems intended for the future, will do a lot to get people moving around more.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

Eastern-bloc aircraft only (simply because you're more likely to reasonably find spare parts) and I'm open to seeing aerial vehicles in the game. This will just add a new dimension to play. I don't want to see them everywhere but I think having a couple per server would make things interesting. I think I'd like to see some sort of boat first but not too bothered one way or the other.

    Why snipers aren't going away

Unless you're playing in a clan as a dedicated marksman for tactical situations, get over yourself, you're not a sniper. You're just a survivor who found a scope and is using for its intended purpose. You're no more a sniper than a hunter using a scope on a hunting rifle. Sometimes it's really useful to aim at something accurately beyond vision ability, anybody aware of this doesn't instantly become a "sniper" which is a combat role. I'm not sure why anyone would want either scopes or marksmen in organized groups to go away and the whole discussion seems a bit tedious.

    Problems with current state

There are no tiers, just broad categories. A blaze is a civilian weapon but it'll drop people most times in a single shot.

    Swords, Maces, rarity vs function

This is not some newly forged piece of awesome steel sword, it's a relic from a bygone era that looks particularly badass. :D I think if you smack someone in the unprotected head with it, they should go down but you shouldn't expect it to be super-effective. Enjoy it for the badassery or leave it for the next guy who will. I still haven't found one. :(
  12. So my thinking of this is entirely ripped off from what Garry is doing with Rust but it strikes me as immensely reasonable and even valuable. The suggestion is this: just as it is at default - let's make character type choices in DayZ completely random with no choosing from the player. We don't get to choose how we are born or what we will look like in real life and I think it would be a nice addition to the game that you can't do that here either.

    Enforce Random Character Types

Sure but not everyone is going to want to do that. Some people will and if it really matters them enough to invest that much time into doing it, well fair enough.

    Enforce Random Character Types

I think over time one gets invested in their player anyway, it's the clothes, sunglasses, etc. choices that players control - again, just as in life. There are some things we can use to personalize and distinguish ourselves that aren't defined by how we look underneath it all.

    Bounty Idea

Well any sort of "currency" or easily tradeable resource, prices would have to be entirely dependent upon the market unless you have NPC's which we absolutely DO NOT want. Even if there was "gold" in the game as a resource, its value to me and its value to any other person would be entirely dependent upon our needs at any given moment. It could be more or less valuable and there would be (nor should there be) any sort of universally recognized value of any stability.
  16. I tend to suicide my characters frequently because I get bored when they get successful (of if there's any sort of patch) so I've never really run into this as an issue. That all said, I seem to recall there was a dev response to this which was basically: "Unfinished mechanics sometimes function weirdly and aren't necessarily WAD." I'd say don't worry too much about it, even if you lose your stuff, getting it back will be fun anyway. This is ultimately a work in progress and wipes of characters happen, have happened and will happen again. You'll lose your gear one way or the other eventually anyway. :)

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

Weight is already a thing we know that's going to be included and have an impact on your character. I imagine what this will ultimately mean is that you make a trade-off for endurance/speed at the sacrifice of the amount of junk you're carrying. If you want to be quick and have the ability to cover longer distances faster, stop carrying around so much shit. Similarly, if you really value carrying around a couple rifles and a platoon's worth of ammo then don't expect to be getting around the map very quickly. All this means is that I think everything should have cost and ultimately the more you're carrying around at higher speeds the more calories you're burning. I have no problem with characters jogging everywhere without some hard cap but I think it should be costly depending upon choices. Sprinting should be much more restricted but still be variable upon equipment carried: a naked guy with jogging shoes is going to outsprint the Tacticool guy with four shotguns, an M4 and a plate carrier.

    Using Online Map Cheating?

It's lame and once you "learn the map" and you get less enjoyment from any sort of exploration, you'll probably regret that you tarnished your experience by using online maps. I largely know my way around but still build the in-game map and will check it for new places added and the like, or just to plan my route.

A player ran in game economy.

If anything in the game ever became a suitable currency, it would already be a currency in practice. But, no such thing exists in the sense that is being talked about in this thread. That's not to say it doesn't exist though, currency is simply a way to simplify trade and trade already happens in DayZ and the second a trade is made of x of z for m of n (as happens from time to time) then the elements of currency are there. The problem you run into is that very few goods hold a steady value for each and every player at any given moment to make the fundamental parts of that trade a useful currency. Without some sort of bank or some other active hand you're simply not going to get the money system you're thinking of. As for the initial assumptions, the idea that gold or silver are inherently valuable is silly, they are only as valuable as people make them to be. This is true of all currencies and not just fiat currencies.

    Manual Bolting

As a bolt-action rifleman in RO, manual bolting needs to happen, agree.

why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!

Let's not hate on the mosin too much. Sure it shouldn't have a bipod and it's by no means a modern rifle or the equivalent of one (and shouldn't have the LRS in game) but it served quite well in the role of a sniper weapon for a good part of the early 20th century.

A new way to start a fire

Stun baton/cattle prod should do it. Particularly if you threw some gasoline on there first.

    Nagant M1895 - Poll

I use to play very often but it's been a couple months now. Inevitably I go back at some point.

    Nagant M1895 - Poll

Ha, that's awesome, I haven't done that exactly but I play AT soldier a lot and sometimes you need to toss the PTRD and play Nagant silent ops. :D

    Status Report - 17 Feb 15

Yeah, stamina system no sprinting all the time people will be nice. Not to mention people making different value judgments regarding what gear they carry around...
