Has anyone found any AKs in 0.55 stable?

Picked up an AK74U in an old f building. I've only been playing on one server though.

    Weapon Discussion: Mauser C/96.

Yeah, implementation alongside a Soviet Greatcoat and we're in business.
  3. This doesn't mean what you think it means. Your character in DayZ is unlikely to be just sitting in a room staring at the wall for days on end (if you did, you could actually survive significantly longer without food). As a sprinting, running, hopping, zombie-killing little tornado of calorie exhaustion you wouldn't make it nearly so long without food. With the average exertion of a DayZ character you would essentially become worthless pretty quick without more calorie intake. Because being utterly exhausted isn't very well represented in a game, you die instead and partly that's fine because that's probably exactly what you'd do eventually. Play on accelerated time servers if you can, I've found this weekend that they really help make you feel that the metabolism rate isn't too dramatically fast.
  4. Well, like I said, it means you can separate the pot from the fire without using a tripod, so you're not damaging the pot. However maybe you don't need a pot with one, I don't think I ever tried, I'll try later to cook just with a stone oven.
  5. Wait is that true about the fireplace? I've always used them with a pot or pan thinking that it was a substitute for the cooking tripod. I actually worry a little about stick cooking as I'm afraid if you make this too easy, people will never have a reason to get food poisoning anymore.

    Dayz radio stations

That's a shame, I love the idea of radios you can listen to. You could even have little crank hand radios.
  7. It's too bad cannibals don't give off some horrible stench or something so they can be killed on sight... or smell.

    Random Character Type

I might try just deleting the game files altogether and downloading again. It'll mess with my key bindings but that's fixable.

Apartments are very inconvenient places to loot.

Is it not possible to limit the apartment buildings down to just a couple floors of enterable space? I feel like the town hall in Novodmitrovsk is handled well in this fashion.

Why can't we eat infected humans?

Well, right now, I think it's simply an oversight. That said, it wouldn't be hard to come up with some sort of rationalization wherein this fictional zombie disease makes zombie flesh toxic to survivors.
  11. It sounds like you had some really bad luck with the berries, tragically so. I seem to be able to survive the opening stages of the game and I'm in no way special or talented so I'm assuming you can as well. A mix of berries and apples will get you a long way and it shouldn't take terribly long. Melee really isn't that bad. Sure, maybe smacking someone in the body with a machete ten times should have pretty nasty effect but the fact remains that aiming for the head in 1pp will get you good results. I can't confirm or deny that sprinting is related to increased caloric loss, only moving vs non-moving but I consider it a bad habit which may indicate other bad habits. Finally, the metabolic rate seems pretty good to me, or else once you get established later in a character's life you'd never have to consider getting food. Seriously, once you're fully energized, it lasts for ages. If you start in the rain and get cold, the game gets harsh, very fast. I don't deny that.
  12. Zombie injuries would be great.
  13. I disagree with most of your premises but I appreciate the way you write it, so beans! I do however agree that being able to roast things on a sharpened stick really needs to be implemented. For melee, I suggest aiming for the head. Going to 1pp during a fight makes this far easier. They really don't live long when smacked in the head with basically anything. For food, you're just not getting many calories out of apples, they're great for hydration though. Eating 3 or 4 berries will lift you a level of hunger typically. Were you cold during all this? That rate of calorie loss I've only experienced while hypothermic and sprinting.

Can you still dig up cooking pots?

Do you get it when digging for worms?

Loved it, all the beans sir.

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

I'm the same way. I'm really looking forward to have more varied conditions and accelerated time becoming more of a norm.

    Accelerated Time Fragnet Servers

So this weekend all official dayz servers hosted by fragnet are 24x accelerated. Just filter for fragnet. Hicks posted about it here
  18. For people having trouble with melee killing zeds, I strongly recommend going to 1pp during melee fights. I find it much easier to land head-shots that way and you can drop them far quicker with virtually any weapon.

Players bodies use energy too fast

This just isn't my experience. Once I get to a very high level energized and hydrated status it takes hours for it to begin dropping if I don't eat anything (which is rare as I'm always eating). I typically leave canned/packaged food alone too unless I'm starving in the very early parts of a character's life. I've been playing on the accelerated time servers and in that context energy consumption even "feels" right. I suppose if one was taking "being sneaky" to some ridiculous extreme it might be detrimental. What I'd suggest considering is weighing how much effort you have to put into going somewhere vs. what you plan to get out of it. If you spend a ton of time trying to weave your way through a nest of zombies in a dense area, you should expect a good payoff, if that payoff isn't assured: move on. There's also a cost/benefit of engaging zombies directly. If there's only one and you're in good condition, beating the hell of it in melee may be a good choice, you'll take some hits but you'll heal in time.

What Type of DayZ Character are You?

I'm a survivor who tends toward the outdoorsman. I don't typically wear full leather but I do replace canteens/PET's with natural water pouch and like to use the leather vest and leather sack. Under it I like a wool coat, hiking boots and the native caps with the little ball on top. I only eat canned/stored goods in the very beginning and then move on to growing crops/foraging/hunting/fishing. I'll happily use a bow but I'll also happily trade it for a blaze or mosin, something capable of taking a cow down in a single shot. So while I'm not a total Luddite, I do find it more fun to live off the land. If you ever find a garden plot with a rabbit snare trap setup nearby by some small house in the middle of nowhere, I'm probably close. :D
  21. Yeah, something really needs to be done about police station MP5 spam.

0.55 Sick for at leat 6 hours in game

Remind me to kill you on sight, creepy cannibal dude. :p

0.55 Sick for at leat 6 hours in game

It used to be that you always got sick when eating things raw, I think now it's just a chance.
  24. Lies, you found two P1's and a repeater. I found a P1 too and alongside a bow, that's what I use.
  25. It's a bit crazy actually. I found 4 mp5 mags in one police station, I started just leaving them in bushes along the road to bring sanity back to the universe.
