People complain about the infinite respawns and having 100 corpses piled at their feet. This means there is too much ammunition available. I want to have a weapon without ammunition and have to scrounge each town and barn to find just one round. I want to have a standoff with another player and wonder if their m16 is actually loaded. I want to shudder at the thought of aggroing a zombie because it means I'll lose another precious round. I want to have someone sprinting after me with a hatchet because they believe I have no ammo. I want to actually consider dropping my 1911 for that makarov and 2 rounds because I might not have this chance again.

Why I generally avoid servers at night...

I don't really mind roaming at night, but I can see why a lot of people leave when it gets dark. I think setting it up so your eyes adjust to the darkness would be an improvement. -
So if there was an exploit that allowed them to wipe servers, they would be okay with you using it? I mean, it is in alpha, so having to reinstall your dayz server every few hours is to be expected. I think any exploit that is used to grief other players is one that should be avoided.

Why is it nobody ever suggests removing first person view? IMO, it is incredibly unrealistic. Or does decreasing peripheral vision and positional awareness somehow make the game more realistic? If you think it's so OP and still refuse to use it, that is your problem. Making a game harder through poor mechanics and interface is never a solution.

HDR is great for low lighting situations. I've noticed with hdr off, night time is nearly pitch black constantly. If you turn on HDR, you can see roads, fields, and highlights on players much better (when there are no clouds).

it's the zombie apocalypse. Eventually, you become desensitized to killing zombies, so killing their human cousins isn't going to be as off-putting as it once was. That being said, killing players should increase your bloodlust. After about 5 or 10, your hunger guage is only (fully) refilled by killing humans. This makes clans of bandits more dangerous to be in, as well as causing a player to maybe be less careful when they are extremely hungry for a kill. Add to it an increased zombie reaction to gunfire and your bandit problem should be substantially lower. As far as self defense goes, killing a human is killing a human; there should be no exceptions. Instead, run away, make them draw some zombies, or aggro some zombies yourself and bring them to the party.

Too complicated. Simpler: combine bandage + wood to create a splint that you can apply to other players. same effect as morphine Then I'll have a use for the hundreds of piles of wood and bandages I come across. This also encourages cooperation and keeps morphine valuable as an easier fix.

so glad I sat still long enough to read the entire thing. I disagree about the title. That is what brought me to this thread. The naming system seems like a great idea. as far as treeline scanning, we should utilize some realism. I doubt you'd be able to identify someone from 300m or further without a scope / binoculars, or through fog, or at night. So the simplest fix is to implement distance clipping with atmosphere weights. Additionally, client-side clipping could be used to keep people from seeing through hills and buildings, but I don't think that is a scriptable feature. Obviously, hackers can still bypass this, but the majority of exploiters wouldn't be able to.

I'm already a non-hostile sociopath, so I'd likely go with that. Once I start shooting zombies, I doubt I'll be able to discriminate. locked in your mother's basement seems like a great survival technique to me. -
Players spontaneously dying at random intervals is a game feature that they need to keep. People surviving more than a few days is complete BS, since they just wind up collecting gear and stuff which helps them survive even longer; wtf is the point of that? I say keep these hacks around to balance the game and keep the players from getting any sort of satisfaction from the mod.

If this software is in alpha, why all the focus on performance improvements? Shouldn't that also wait for beta? Why all the hullabaloo about server hopping, d/c exploits (according to rocket), and non-mod item spawning? Why even bother with the wave of bans for exploiting/hacking if it doesn't matter right now? You nonconstructive trolls need to stop hiding behind "alpha" and actually focus on making this an enjoyable game so when it finally hits beta, people will be willing to play it. Alpha is about balancing features and making the product stable for release. If "explode entire server" is a desired feature, so be it. Otherwise, alpha is the time to remove it. The alternative is to wait, let the hackers become more prevalent, and watch the mod die before it even hits beta. /end rant -

this seems easy enough to implement. We have most of the components, already. I very much endorse this suggestion. maybe add 4 or 6 slots of storage. -
I have no qualms about killing unarmed survivors. How many would simply turn around and kill you if you give them a weapon? If you're less armed than I am, I assume you'd kill for my gear. If you're more armed than I am, you are likely a bandit. I try not to kill everyone I see on sight, unless they see me, too.

if you have a 20 second disconnect timer, you will also need a 20 second connect timer to avoid duplication issues.

How to make the game more fun and less frustrating with a few small tweaks.

Stop taking the limited animations so literally. Blood squirting out of your neck is an indicator that you are bleeding enough to need a bandage. A zed trying to give you a high-five means they are attacking you, not necessarily with blunt force. As far as the bones breaking, I find it a nice touch; although, I think that it happens way too frequently and should only happen with repeated hits. Would also be nice if falling 2ft and closing doors wouldn't break bones. -
Is it possible to disable ADS when unarmed. The interface gives no indication that you pressed the button, but the player can only walk. Took me a few minutes of button mashing to figure it out and get back into run mode.

i'd rather see them give you a DMR magazine, just to see how long you hold onto it.
