Cannot use an improvised suppressor with a mosin compensator
jacksparrows replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
A real suppressor has baffling and material of some sort inside of it which, for a lack of better terms, absorbs muffles the sound. Of course a water bottle by itself duct-taped to a gun isn't going to suppress the sound. There are automotive oil filter suppressors, that actually work quite well and would make more sense in DayZ. Lets not even get into the fact that if you want a suppressor to truly be effective, you must use sub-sonic rounds. -

To be fair, I absolutely agree with you. I am simply giving the game the benefit of the doubt, being a game...and mixing some real world truth in too. You know, for the sake of discussion. :) -

jacksparrows replied to trev186's topic in General Discussion
If the in-game compensator is anything like real world compensators for the Mosin, there are reliefs that would act much like a muzzle brake, as they are very similar devices, and would obliterate the "improvised suppressor". A compensator will redirect expelled gases upward in relation to the barrel in order to help reduce muzzle flip. -

Even if the improvised suppressor would fit over the compensator, one shot and the compensator and how it functions would explode the water bottle right off the end of the gun making it useless and a stupid idea to even try in the first place. -
What gun was your first shooting kill with?

Mosin. -
I knocked out a guy out with a baseball bat...once. He was a relatively new fresh spawn, had a sledge hammer, and couldn't play for shit. He faked friendly after we killed a zombie, I go to bandage and out comes his sledge. Fortunately I canceled the action in time to get away and pull out my trusty but nearly useless baseball bat. About 5 to 6 solid connects later, he drops while trying to escape. It was a major WTF moment considering I hit his unprotected head several times and he just shrugged it off. A buff is indeed needed. IRL if I swing even the shittiest of baseball bats and connect with your head, you're probably going to die or at least fall into a coma.

The Winchester Model 70 discussion thread
jacksparrows replied to 5mirkeh's topic in General Discussion
The HK417 fires the 7.62x51 cartridge. The FN FAL is also chambered in 7.62x51. The Mosin fires a 7.62x54R cartridge. The devs goofed and didn't put the correct caliber in the game. In DayZ the Mosin fires 7.62x51 which is not correct. Here is a list of weapons that fire the same 7.62x54R cartridge as the Mosin. -
The Winchester Model 70 discussion thread

ugh, I've read a few times in this thread that the Mosin is inaccurate? Says who? I own two of them, my brother owns one, and between our group of shooting friends there must be another five or six of them and none of them are inaccurate. The bottom line is they should be a formidable weapon in game. They do not need nerfed. They are powerful and in my experience they are 9 times out of 10 more accurate than the person shooting them is. I can hit accurately with both of mine out to the limits of my ability to shoot it. When someone more experienced and better than myself has fired it at longer range, it still remained accurate. Before trashing the Mosin, pick a real one up and get some trigger time behind it before speaking about its capabilities. -
This thread is fine. To all those who complain about repeats, well, the OP has a point. I check these forums almost everyday and it's not something that comes up that often from my experience. Give it a rest already, be thankful this forum isn't ANYTHING like the DayZ sub-reddit...THAT place is a cluster fuck of repeat threads non-stop EVERY day. Anyways, back on topic, yes I am waiting for bicycles to be implemented. To be honest I could really care less about vehicles at this point but bicycles spread out throughout the map would be AWESOME! There should be down sides to bicycles vs vehicles but advantages over running on foot. I think you should grow weak from biking long distances but not near as quickly as running. Plus they should be a bit faster and hopefully plentiful. Programming considerations aside I think bicycles will and should be a game changing addition to this fine Alpha. Just my 2 cents. ~Arrrghhh... Cpt. Jack Sparrow, signing out...

I pay $70 usd a month with no data usage limits or throttling. I live in a densely populated area as well and they have never over sold their connection. I could not be happier.

I get what you are saying and I did not ping and speedtest the closest servers to me. Had I done that the results would have been even better. There are many DayZ servers that are hosted from Dallas, TX (USA) Which are the ones I used in these examples. I am in Oklahoma City, OK. And just for shits and grins here is a speedtest and pingtest from across the "pond". Which while the latency is as expected a bit worse, it is still adequate for light gaming.

So I should almost be in online gaming heaven, right? I disagree and I am not quite sure what in the hell you smoked before that wall-o-shit but I would like some, please. A persons internet connection doesn't mean anything when the client and server utilizing the connection is not up to par. Geez.. I have a headache now. Thanks.

Incapacitation/ Kinectic knockdown discussion
jacksparrows replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
This is a game and should be treated as such. Don't get me wrong, I like the ideas of a more in-depth medical system and such but I do NOT want it to turn into a tedious system that demands so much attention in game that it detracts from the point of playing. Fun. There would have to be sacrifices in realism to avoid this becoming a "Constantly searching for medical gear because the game went to realistic on wounds simulator"
