You show me yours, I'll show you mine

This would completely ruin the immersion aspect of a zombie apoc. I'd say the ONLY stat that one should see is the other player's name. If we were really in a zombie apoc and we came across a fellow player, we'd recognize who they are if we had met them before. That wouldn't ruin immersion. But kill stats? That's too arcade-ish.

    Weather patterns in DayZ

    Nope...does Ireland count though?

    Weather patterns in DayZ

Yeah.....the rain really gets on my nerves. Unless we're in the Amazon jungle, it shouldn't be raining this much.

List of things that bug me when playing DayZ

Not really sure why this would be their intention. Just doesn't make any sense.

4gb download new patch for exp?

Not much changes between the experiment version and the stable version of an update, certainly not anything significant like rain and hypothermia/hyperthermia. .

Not true. No, he should stay and continue providing great feedback and constructive criticism (unlike you), which is our responsibility as Early Access players.

List of things that bug me when playing DayZ

I always choose servers in the 30-50 ping range as well, but I've found that that ping DOES NOT stay consistent for an entire game session. It may have been 30 when I started, but that doesn't mean it's still 30 after an hour of playing.

List of things that bug me when playing DayZ

I like this thread...a lot. This is all very constructive feed back. I even laughed my butt off when reading some of it, especially: This is SO true, and perhaps the MOST frustrating thing to me out of your entire list. This, and sometimes when I'm running away from a zombie and need to switch to my axe, my character will freaking STOP and voluntarily get assaulted by a zombie as he tries to pull out his weapon. Ugh, frustrates me to no end....

    Dead Servers

There's usually a good 40-50 servers with 0 people on it, and the time is usually stuck at 14:00 or something like that, and all of them have similar names. Not sure what they are or why they're on the list of servers to join...

    Which is better?

I personally just won't buy AMD anymore. I'm not trying to start an AMD vs Intel debate, but I owned an AMD gaming computer with an ATI Radeon and it just did not function as fast as you think the specs should. A 3.7ghz quad core AMD processor won't perform as efficiently as its Intel counterpart. Try looking into an Intel i7 with a Nvidia graphics card.

How does everyone here break up the DayZ monotony?

I, like others here, just enjoy watching people from the distance. I'll join a full server and hide in the rocks of Cherno and just watch the city come to life. I like to watch the various skirmishes around the city. And then a hacker flies over and kills me every time.....oh well, nothing else to do, really.
  12. There it is, my friend. I've played PC games all my life and have never worried about being banned for using a "program" that is detected by anti-cheat detection. I don't even know what kind of a program would even do this. The fact that this worries you as the possible culprit probably means you're dabbling in hacking anyways, or "straddling the fence" so to speak. Sounds like you probably were banned for a legitimate reason that you just didn't know was legitimate.

    Not really a survival game

Your opinion is correct. As you said, DayZ is indeed "a FPS style game with a few survival aspects to it." But I do believe that is precisely what makes this game so popular. The PvP crowd will ALWAYS be a bigger crowd than the PvE crowd....always. People crave action. Slowly dehydrating until you either find water or die may be cool (no pun intended) for a while, but eventually it would become numbingly boring.

An Easy Way to Explain Alpha - my favorite topic

You haven't been around these forums very long then. The very first argument that any fanboy/homer uses to unquestionably defend DayZ against the slightest negativity is, quote "IT'S NOT A GAME YET!!!" Since the entire purpose of this thread is to iron our what an Alpha really is, semantics is quite necessary given the fact that semantics are indeed used to defend the failures of an Alpha. Just wait...it's inevitable that someone will quote this very post and say something to the effect of "You paid your $30 to help develop a 'project' so that it can one day become a game, so stop crying."

Hey, at least you admitted it is indeed a game. :) Just like your "blank" and your "cooking pot" are both considered cooking utensils regardless of the crudeness of the former and the efficiency of the latter.

Sounds like you disagree with Steam, then, which calls it an "Early Access Game." You really just need to admit you're wrong about this and move on. It's a video game in development. Period. Using children as an analogy, my child is still a "child" whether its 2 years old or 17 years old. It doesn't matter how early DayZ is in its development stage, it is still a GAME (that is in development) whether you like it or not, just as my children are still my children regardless of what stage of development they're in. It really bugs me when people try to coddle DayZ by basically telling everyone "you didn't purchase a game so get over it!!!". Well, yes they did purchase a game. My child doesn't become my child when it's fully developed. My child has been my child since the moment it was born, and Dayz has been a game since the moment it was born.

Sorry, but it IS a game. It is an Early Access Game, according to Steam. And the only way for this game to grow is for it to be criticized, not coddled.

Of course I don't. But, unlike you, I don't pretend like my kids are perfect and "can do no wrong" as you so boldly declared. My kids do mess up, and when they do, they get a good whooping. I'm also aware that I was raised the same way, and I owe my success to the fact that my parents didn't spoil me and pretend like I was just a "blank" that had no problems whatsoever. I received my fair share of whoopings, and it helped me become the successful person that I am. If you want this game to be successful, you need to speak out against the homers and fanboys just as rigorously as you speak out against others because they are just as nonconstructive as the ignorant complainers.

Every once in a while you'll see an "engine" tweak in the release notes of an update, but so far it's all been behind-the-scenes work that has not produced a very noticeable change yet...at least I personally haven't noticed anything. Others may have.

Do you want the blank to eventually become a frying pan? Well, in order for this to happen, they need constructive feedback, not blind followers.

See, this is the crux of the issue. You're blindly following this product giving absolutely no thought to its shortcomings. As a father, I raise my children knowing full well they will not be perfect at a young age. They're going to grow up and mature and eventually become the person I desire them to be; yet in the early stages, they will mess up. It is my responsibility to reprimand them and show them that their mistakes do not benefit them. The WORSE parent in the world is the one who spoils their child and smothers them with compliments. It is your responsibility as a paid member of this Early Access Game to reprimand them when they make mistakes...not to pad their wallets and say "Aw, sweetheart, it's ok, you can do no wrong my queen."

Take a chill pill homer. I never said that an Alpha has to be perfect, did I? I never said that I expected it to NOT do wrong, did I? Of course it will not function properly all the time, because yes is IS an Alpha. All I said is that its faults and failures shouldn't be ignored and overlooked just because it's an Alpha. People are allowed to voice their concerns about the faults and failures without being labeled "unreasonable" because they're very reasonable, and they don't have their head stuck in the sand pretending like the problems around them don't exist.

OP, The concern a lot of people have is that after 1 year of mod development, 9 months of SA development, and 60 freaking million dollars in sales, don’t you think we should have moved on past the crude foundational stage? So much time and money has been spent in developing this “frying pan” that it shouldn’t still be splashing hot grease all over you when you try to use it, and there shouldn’t be large gaping holes in the middle of the “blank” that leak flammable liquids all over your gas stove. Just because it is an Alpha doesn’t mean it can do no wrong. If it does wrong, it’s going to be called out on it. That’s just the nature of this business, so it’s time to put big boy pants on. It’s obvious that you love this game…you darn near worship it on these forums. But others who do not feel quite the same as you, and who voice their opinions about the game’s faults and failures, are not “unreasonable” as you say. And you’d be wise to open your own eyes to its failures, because worshiping it does not improve it one bit.

    Rework of cities and places

OP, H1Z1 is doing this very thing. They're building their game from the start to look like an aged apocalypse. Iow, they're making it look like the apoc happened a long time ago. A while back, they posted pictures on their website of a city they designed. The roads were cracked, bldgs were crumbling, there was overgrowth everywhere...very similar to what you're suggesting. They also designed a supermarket with A LOT of age to it, as if it had been there for years. It had a much different look to it than DayZ's supermarket which looks quite pristine besides a few knocked over shelves. Unlike H1Z1, DayZ has made their game from the start to look more like the apoc just occurred. If I were you, I wouldn't expect there to be any plans in the near future for the devs to add age. This would require completely revamping all their models and textures. Like H1Z1, they've chosen their foundational look and feel, and have chosen to run with it. Going back now would just take up too much of their time. They're already rebuilding so much in the game as it is.

    September Rant Topic.

Some people need to grasp the simple fact that not all Early Access games are created equal. There are good Alpha's, decent Alpha's, and bad Alpha's.
