Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...

Fuck m8, why don't you try, you know, going to cities where no one goes? Novo is shit, its like you come here and go all "HUE elektro has no loot ayy lmao", no shit Sherlock. VERY CLOSE to Novo is a city called Krasnoe, go there. Then go to Stary Yar, you will see how newb you are being. Go to smaller isolated cities for a change and you will find everything you want to. Stop being newb and server hoping Novo lol, you will never find good shit there. Open the map and look for places outside of interest areas, there is where the good stuff is. If you go to obvious places where everyone goes, welp, server hop all you want, there are probably more 300 people doing the same shit as you in the same place. So yeah, git gud scrub -
Will we EVER see DayZ get to this level of gruesome?
Avant-Garde replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
The gore I want to see is more as a response to player actions. Simple things like bullet wounds, blood "clouds" when you land a shots, this kind of thing. Maybe some sound gore as well, like, if you get shot but still alive your avatar starts screaming in panic, but you know those screams that makes you uncomfortable due how gruesome they sound? Yeah, we need that in my opinion. Same when you take heavy damage from zeds or other source like breaking a leg etc. I do believe that while visual gore is always a nice thing to have, "sound gore" can cause way more impact, like axing someone in the shoulders, you hear a disgusting sound of flesh and bones being fucked up (not those over the top bullshit though) + believable panic and pain screams. If the sound is convincing enough, the visual gore doesn't need to be all that elaborated I think, but basic wound decals is a must in my opinion. We need visual clues in this game, not only as a fun gory thing but as a gameplay factor as well. For example, in this game at the moment is hard to know when you landed a hit on someone due lack of flinch, lack of gore decals and blood and lack of sound clues as well. All of this makes for a nice gameplay where the player "feels" the consequences of his actions. At the moment everything is rather bland tbh. -
Next time you should leave a note man! "ayyy lmao nice hiding m8"

This makes sense man, I found absolutely 0 loot there, big disappointment as I walked A LOT from Rify to devlands and that was my reference to get there. At least it was a fun ride until devlands, then it was boring lol, but since I choose to not use outside of the game maps thats one of the best references I think to find those tanks. Oh well, got rewarded with beautiful pump action shotgun at that industrial place between Stary Yar and Krasnoe, plus ammo and a lot more good stuff! Can't say it was a bad or unfunny ride, now I'm at the holy quest to find a Gorka helmet + that new gas mask and look as close as possible to this: AW YIS Brotherhood of nod light infantry! What else gas masks are good for lol, already found a grey cargo pants, a black rain coat and a red armband, close enough tbh I really wanted grey camouflage so I could look elite as fuck like this guy: Notice how he blends with the environment and is almost invisible. Yeah, such is the Brotherhood.
-
Makes a lot of sense tbh. I'll try to restart the game more often see if it gets better! For the guys having loot problems, the cities of Krasnoe and Stari Yar had more loot then I can take, shitload of food/clothes/civ weapons/melee/drinks/bags... I love these shitty cities lol, no one ever goes there it seems. But that tank convoy that is over those areas were completely empty, not even trash loot. Idk if its worth to go there, does someone had a different experience with that place?

All of these happening here as well. The FPS drops are literally freezing the game here lmao. Here it seems to happen more often the more I play. Have to quit the game and open it back to reduce the freezing, but its not really working tbh

Yeah man I do agree with you, this game can never lose its "charm" just to appeal a wider audience and I'm also afraid of big changes you know, that's why I can't even can suggest anything related to the movement system because at the same time it bothers me, it is one of the things that distinguish this game from others and give him and identity, you know what I'm saying? DayZ and ARMA feels unique, its a great idea with HUGE potential, I just think they need to fine tune it a bit. Also, as I said earlier, sometimes I think that the clunky controls create a sort of artificial difficulty but at the same time kinda fun to deal with. Not for everyone of course, I know people who really hates this system and its the main reason they don't even dare play this game lol. But I do believe that this game would benefit A LOT from a movement system that felt more "natural". I am really eager to see what the dev team will come up with the new character system, and how it will affect the game as a whole. -
looking for something different to do? help combat server hoppers

Thats actually a very good suggestion OP, I'm gonna do that right now lmao, I think I have the perfect weapon for such task, the almighty pump action shotgun Lets see how this goes, wish me luck -

Yep, I understand that, but in the game are we a camera stick on a helmet or are we the human? On DayZ we are the camera stick on someones head it seems, thats my point, this breaks immersion for me man, idk. While in RO, HL2 and such I feel like the human. -

The above answer I did to Pilgrim kinda fits your comment as well, read that please. The point is the balance between realism and immersion, Red Orchestra does it better then DayZ imo. -

Hahahhah my friend, I obviously don't get offended with your opinion man, I'm glad we are having this discussion tbh because I always had some doubts about ARMA movement system and wanted to discuss it, and I thank you for the well thought answer! Real life combat is clunky for those who are watching it, for the soldier himself he is just like, you know, running and walking and much likely he does all that in "automatic mode", like ourselves. ARMA movement system reminds you every time that it is a game and you are not your avatar, because you have to think about the simplest things like going through a door (for example, there are houses in DayZ that are stupidly small, you almost have to crouch to go though the door), jumping over a fence etc. While in other games, like Red Orchestra, I do it all "automatic", just like in real life. See a fence and want to jump over it? Well I just do it no problemo. See a wall and want to get cover? Fine there you go. Once you master the control layout, it all feels "natural" you know what I mean? Half-Life 2 is for example the complete opposite of DayZ, the immersion is amazing, you are literally Gordon fucking Freeman lol. DayZ doesn't give me this, it gives me unnecessary clunkiness, the speed is totally off (either too slow or too goddamn fast), I have to "aim" at the right place on a ladder to interact with it, taking cover is a pain in the ass because I can't position myself the way I wanted to, the roll over thing you said is just plain bad in my opinion, totally unnecessary and I would rather it be like Red Orchestra. The point being, all this clunkiness does not convey a realism feeling for a shitload of people, it does the exact opposite, it reminds you that you are in a clunky as fuck game. It might be realistic as a concept, but I don't think they did a good job putting the theory in practice. Disproportion does have something to do with the clunkiness of the game. If I have to crouch to get into a house, there is obviously something wrong. If a stair is barely big enough for one person (the big building in Novosomethinski), there is something wrong. You see, the concept is great, but in practice it doesn't seems to work and just add unnecessary clunkiness and throw immersion and realism out of the window (like, imagine if before the apocalypse that building was on fire and people had to escape it using those stairs? Or the midget house example, there are many other examples). Now, Red Orchestra is not real? No shit Sherlock. May I remind you that DayZ and ARMA are not real as well. They are games and gameplay and immersion plays a major role in games. Red Orchestra has a more fluid and immersive gameplay in my opinion, while DayZ and ARMA reminds me everytime I'm in a game, a quite realistic one but there is no reality suspension you know, Half-Life 2 full of aliens does a better job suspending reality then DayZ tbh. Movement system is one of the causes, bad interior design is another (everything is cramped as fuck). Devs seems to acknowledged this, since they are changing the character and movement system at some point. My point is: I don't want DayZ to have a movement system like Unreal Tournament or Half-Life 2, it wouldn't fit. It needs more "weight" then what those games propose. BUT, the way it is now is not good at all, way to clunky and and instead of suspending reality it reminds you that you are playing a game. I talk about Red Orchestra because until this day, that game had the best b0lonce between both worlds in my opinion, of course its not perfect or 100% realistic, but it does convey some realism sense AND does cause the suspension of disbelief. Idk if people heard about this term before, but anyways here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief Sometimes I get sad because I'm all nervous and shit because of PVP situations, then the clunkiness of the game gets in the way and immediately I'm "out" of the game you know. BTW I know is oftopic but fuck, just read the OP man, we are doing this thread a favor lmao (just kidding) -

Red Orchestra 2 has realistic movement system and is not clunky as ARMA. Idk man, I understand they are trying to make things realistic, but this doesn't feel a bit realistic to me, its just unnecessarily clunky tbh. I don't know how my avatar not having a precise movement is realism. Are soldiers disproportional huge and fast as fuck robots that stumble on everything and have problems with little fences/doors/crouch-walking/interiors/etc? I mean, Red Orchestra conveys with WAY more finesse the "IRL clunkyness" you guys are saying, in my opinion of course. -
Welp, but then how to fix vehicles?
-
Well I guess that was never really the devs intention tbh. What other reason does people has to use third person if not peaking corners? People cries a lot about realism and immersion, third person throw both out the window. Why even care about "balancing" peaking if thats exactly why people use third person in the first place? As I see it, devs did it to look more "modern" you know, over-the-shoulder bullshit like resident evil and such (game will go to consoles after all). If they really wanted to fix this there is no other way then "fog of war" thing tbh. But does people who play third person want this? Do they want b0lonce? I think not, they want peaking. I really can't think of other reasons to use 3rd person if not to create stupid advantages over other people to compensate the hard-as-fuck PVP this game has and the fact that losing your character brings many tears and no one wants that. Remember, in the older builds there was no "3rd person servers" but "Casual" and "hardcore". That tells us a lot about this whole discussion as I see it. By the way, thats not the only advantage that comes with 3rd person. In facehug encounters, if you are in third person its WAY easier to strafe and spam bullets then in first person, melee is also WAY easier since in this game you aim with the swing animation, and in third person you see the whole animation and thus its easier to aim. Really, I see it as "DayZ easy mode", if they balance it (which is obviously not gonna happen because its a natural advantage in many sectors of the game, not only peaking), you might just play first person then.

Thing is: when I'm playing, if the responsiveness is bad my immersion breaks entirely. I might be floating arms in those games, but I don't even think about what I actually am because its really fluid. Like in real life, I almost never think about my presence in the environment, I just get to places without stumbling my way in walls and shit, pretty much like Half-Life 2 for example or Red Orchestra 2. It is indeed fake, but it results in you not even thinking about your presence in the environment, so for example when you jump over a fence in Half-Life 2 it wont break your immersion because its easily done, and IRL its just like that, you see the fence and you jump it no problemo. Now on Arma and DayZ, man... Its a goddamn struggle. You see, in Half-Life 2 there is one clunky element, that are ladders. The responsiveness on ladders are shit and totally immersion breaker for almost like everyone that plays that game, DayZ and Arma seems like full of HL2 "ladders" you know. Its a fight to jump a fence, to get running into a house, to adjust your position on a corner, to crouch walk/run in general and especially in interiors... Everything feels kinda clunky and more often then not your avatar in game does not respond as you wanted it too and either he walks way more distance then you wanted him to, or less distance. I feel its hard to have some movement precision with this movement system. If the environment was in a better scale, this might not be half as noticeable, but you get in a house and everything is cramped it seems, you have very few space for movement in a movement system that seems to require some space to be immersive (outdoors I have almost 0 problems with this movement system). Everything seems to get in your way, idk man its kinda abstract tbh, I'm having trouble to express myself I think lol. I mean, this game on a controller.. Its going to be quite a challenge for the devs in my opinion, how to make this game feels good on a controller? Since there are fixed walking speed and running speed on DayZ, and console players usually control their movement speed by the analog stick. It will be even clunkier! -
AHHAHAHHAh thats some funny shit man, oh god... I know how it feels lol. Fists are really OP tbh as the knock down chance is way to high, it should be a rare thing in my opinion. Its one of the best melee weapons, if not the best if you exclude the weapons that has the same animation of the fire axe (pike axe, farming hoe, splinting axe, sledgehammer etc)

I understand, its funny because its probably more a experience thing. By what you say, I guess the games you play the most are from Bohemia right? I'm relatively new to all this (my first experience being DayZ mod a few years ago) so it all feels terrible sometimes, but I understand what you are saying about the weight thing, its definitely not how I feel when playing Bohemia games. I feel like, I'm way too big and fast you know, I understand what they are trying to archive with this movement system I think, but in real life I also have more control over the speed I walk/run and I can avoid obstacles easier. I do agree that walking in general feels pretty realistic, but everything goes down the drain when you start running, in the mod it was terrible and in standalone is even worse, because you are literally Usain Bolt and since interiors plays a major role, I think the "clunkiness" intensifies. I don't think DayZ would be cool with a movement system like Half-Life 2 for example, but the way it is now is just shit in my opinion, they need to tone it down a bit, or make interiors bigger, I don't know man. Being in interiors with someone else feels suffocating, its plain weird tbh lol, especially if the dude only runs. I hold myself not to shoot them in the head STOP RUNNING GODDAMMIT knocking me back all over the place (the military barracks for example, you can't even have 2 guys inside there, you can't even walk down those corridors due extreme clunckiness) This not only affect PVP aspect of the game, it affects the general experience the player has, a shitload of friends of mine and on reviews people talk about how clunky this game feels, and how that is one of the main things that they don't like about the game. -

In real life I have good responsiveness on my movements, I don't stumble on walls (interiors in DayZ and ARMA are true nightmare fuels) and its kinda easy to get through doors you know, also I don't feel like walls have magnets and I'm made out of metal, etc, etc. To me, a realistic movement system is like, idk, closer to counter-strike or half-life 2, Red Orchestra... DayZ and ARMA is just...clunky as fuck, I simply can't get used to it, but at the same time its kinda fun the artificial difficulty this system adds, but it never felt realistic to me tbh. Looks like I'm driving some kind of robot thing. -

Only because its alpher, DayZ was never in fact a great survival game. ARMA is clunky as hell, that seems to be "realism" to bohemia. -
I wholehearted agree tbh, if this is how it works, then its shit. Also might explain why I had found so much good loot on stable but when it was exp, I hadn't found anything worthy. You can bet that in some days you will find only shitty pistols lol.

Its funny because in my experience it was the opposite, found guns, food, water and clothes in the first city I spawned in. I imagine that interior cities, especially the "shitty" ones with no hot spots are even better tbh. My only problem is the game freezing ALL THE FUCKING TIME, I rage so hard with this lol. But hell, thats alpher right -
My first death on this built was at the Prison tower, got up there and my ankle got funny, then red, then I felt to the ground and couldn't walk, then dead lol. But you know what makes me mad? I'm getting impressively 30-40 fps even in cities, but this game fucking freezes EVERY GODDAMN TIME, it literally freezes. This will for sure cost my life sooner then latter. Its annoying beyond belief, freezing for like almost 1 minute then back to normal, then fucking freezing again in a interval of what, 10-15mins? Fuck, I can't make my viewdistance even lower, it will be unplayable if I do it. At least we don't have zombies, because if we had it would be unplayable tbh, frozen then dead. It wasn't nearly as bad in older builds. I want to play and like this game so bad, but dayz hates me so much man. WHY DAYZ WHY DONT YOU LOVE ME BACK PS: I had absolute 0 problems with loot, it was even kinda easy to find stuff tbh.

GUYS ITS HAPPENING! 1,2 gig

Yeah I feel empathy when I see someone getting killed, its cool to see how other people react to deaths in my opinion. Nice video man!
