I like this very much. Makes total sense with what the game is. -
I think your mental health should get worse not when you kill people, but if you are exposed long times to "scarry" situations, like getting gangbanged by zeds or tortured.. Starving and things like this. We shudn't get punished for killing things, but for doing stupid things/allowing people/zeds to get us.

This is beautifull, a tear droped from my eyes man. You are a true hero of chernarus, no-pants-man was lucky to meet with you guys!

The 'friendly' pose and how I am dealing with bandits
Avant-Garde replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
I ask people to get naked and drop the weapons. You either get naked or get shot, your choice. If the person get naked then we are all good, I stop pointing the gun and we can have a conversation/I help the dude if he needs. "Nothing personal, really, I just need you to get naked lol." -
Not really, I never let a single door opened. I'm sure I'm not the only one

The 'friendly' pose and how I am dealing with bandits
Avant-Garde replied to gianni001's topic in General Discussion
I just have my gun out in military places, no one is friendly there and neither am I. In other places I have my guns holstered and AWAYS sneak in towns and such, so I can spot other Survivors before they spot me. If we get close, I try some comunications with writen chat (doesn't reveal my position by sound) while I'm hidden to see how said Survivor will behave. When fresh-respawns, they usually answer and ask for help. When geared up, they run lol. But what I think its the best to make friendly contact is to be in a position of superiority, that could be superior gear, a good place where you can see the Survivor and offer some threat to him but he can't do that to you.. this kind of thing. if they are in group I shoot to kill, I really don't trust people in groups and rather not even make contact other then a bullet to their face. All my "friends" are temporary. I don't kill them, Its like we help eachother and then go on our ways. -
Your dude looks awesome man, I wish I could find a bandana like that! I had no luck so far, just found a purple one :(

Thank you very much my good sir. This explains a lot. I hope that this: "...The melee system was prototyped in script and it introduced a nice hit detection mechanic during the swing where a trace is cast directly from the weapon" Gets back in the game, because it is the feature I most enjoyed. This gives a lot of depth to the melee system and also is really realistic So you guys think it will be like it was before? I also liked how the animations were the reference for the attacks, you could manipulate your swings and it gave a lot of freedom in melee. -

In my experience so far with this new patch, the melee still really wierd compared to what it was in older builds. Before, you could get close to a wall, turn your back to it, look up and then attack, if the weapon used an overhead animation, you could hit that wall behind you. Now you can't, the melee weapon will phase through said wall. Another test, get on the side of a tree and close to it, put in 3rd person and try to hit it with the last moment of the animation. You will see again the melee weapon model phasing through the object and the hit not registering. It wasn't like this before. This means that is not during the whole animations that the weapon will deal damage, and that's might be the reason why we can't properly hit things with melee, because what we see is not what is actually hapening. There is a right frame in the animation where it will register a hit, and imo this is really bad because it is a complete guess until you find that "sweet spot". We need that system that was in earlier builds, that were A LOT more acurate to what we saw in the animation. The melee weapon needs to deal damage through their whole animation, in order to be less guesswork. This is an artificial skill gap betwen experienced players and new ones, where the older players will know how to deal with this bullshit while new players won't have a clue over what to do. Does someone know EXACTLY how the melee mechanics in this game works? How can I find this information? It's really hard to give a feedback on the melee changes they make because our reference is only "I can hit zeds" or "I can't hit them", but it is noticiable that it has gone through heavy changes since this game launched and Imo it is getting worse. In this update seems like the "sweet spot" is a bit bigger, but I'm clueless, really. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Avant-Garde replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Don't use the crosshair to aim with melee, use the attack animation as a guide to where you will hit. Play a bit in 3rd person so you get usued to the animations and you will be good.Sometimes I don't even aim at the zombie/player, just drag the animation to it. The crosshair is the worse reference you could have. Oh also, when you get usued to the animations, you will see that you can increase the range of your melee attacks (when its an overhead animation) by hitting your target with the end of the animation. To do so, you go running towards what you wanna hit, start the attack before getting to close, look up and try to land it at the very last second of the animation (the melee weapon deals damage the whole time it is swinging). Other thing, if you want to hit your target faster then you usually would do, get in facehug range, look a bit down and attack, you will hit your target with the beggining of the animation and thus, making the hit land faster (really userfull against other players, against zombies you might wanna use the range trick I just told ya). But this does not apply to weapons that doesn't have an "overhead" attack animation (pitchfork, baseball bat, fists etc), for them you have to use diferent technics but with this same principle. Once you mastered this logic, melee will be A LOT easier. In CQC I'd rather use an axe then a pistol and it works nice because people panic. EDIT: Looks like this mechanic is out of the game for now, seems that it was lagging a lot so now you will have to find the "sweet spot", thats it, the frame or part of the animation that deals damage. Before, you could hit walls on your side or behind you because the during the whole animation it would deal damage, now your weapon will phase through things (walls, zeds etc) just like the DayZ mod's axe. I'm really expecting that they fix it and bring it back, it was an awesome mechanic and quite realistic. -
I'm not afraid of death in DayZ, but every encounter with another human is tense as fuck lol. Humans are really scarry, you never know what they have in their minds

Only thing I think its shit are the interiors, they are all out of proportions. Chairs, tabbles, sofas, hospital beds... Sometimes looks like I'm in a freaking doll house. I mean, look at this http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110319014528/silent/images/e/e1/LivingRoom.png And compare to this http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s470/Fragglerocky/original4_zpsb6252c94.jpg In the first picture you can clearly see that the human character could easily sit down on the chairs'n shit, things are proportional. Now try to notice that in DayZ, the character model is way to big for the interiors. This is what really, really breaks the game imersion for me, interiors are really bad imo. But other then that, this game is BEAUTIFULL, the outside is one of the best I have ever seen, feels very realistic even at potato computers. The weather effects makes my pen0r hard and the textures are awesome. But the interiors suck so bad it is not even funny. Wtf man, look at those ovens, you would have to crouch to cook something

Green/Brown check wool coat + green/brown cargo pants and a crafted backpack is gud But I aways use the pink running shoes, idk if that jeopardises me but they are lovely anyways

This is a great idea, imagine how cool would it be to have something like a underground base, all dark'n filled with zombies and bandits + good loot and a diferent atmosphere.

Melee still shit here, have to lmb spam and pray for the best. In older versions I could actually aim and hit only in the head with the first hit, it's not better then .47 and melee simply don't register how it should (the visual clue given by the attack animation). -
Holy shit the doors sounds is a must, I just didn't liked the shots noise, but all the rest is awesome.

This is glorious. Would give a nice use to the duct tape! -
Well that is true, but the situation ingame is really diferent. You see someone with a mosing on his back and a m4 in his hand, no way in hell I would try to comunicate with this person and if I'm in need of resources/ammo/weapons I would gladly kill him on sight. Oh also, in an end of the world situation there would be many groups. I belive that KoS would still happen a lot.
-
Thats true man, this could give a nice use to the duct tape!
-
Its not because someone is a doctor/mechanic/chemist that they will not be a threat to you. It's not so simple I would say.
-
Oh man, go in the middle of fucking nowhere, take a Bible with you and start to pray. You might find one if god likes you. Its easier to find fresh respawns. Kill one of them and then give the gun to another, so Karma won't be a bitch lol
-
Give it to a fresh-spawn!

I think it is the most clever way to engage in combat, but I don't do it because 1. I suck with snipers 2. boring as fuck But I should at least be good with them, it is a really userfull tactic that I might need at some point.
