Amazing! The devs did a great job making cherno feel like a real city, those new tenement buildings are fatastic! It's a shame about the DX11, maybe sometime in the future, imagine those sidewalks with tessellation!

Perhaps the mods could sneak us a screenshot? We promise not to tell rocket! Please?

True enough, so lets throw rewriting the zombie AI on the pile and call it a day? -

"Sex? What is sex, there is only SURVIVAL!" But really, it'll probably end up being an all nighter, kinda like when Dayz first came out, here's hoping Rocket can hit that sweet spot again. (Though from what I've seen, it's pretty much assured.) -

Eh, I don't think that is the worst case, but best case is the network bubble works like a charm and rocket presses the big red button we have all been waiting for. Though I can't wait to test it out, I hope there is a decent level of polish in it, as well as things to test. -

I'm hoping that something like that happens, that way we can use the custom faces like we have in Arma 2, it's a shame Arma 3's is currently borken... -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
korrobravin replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, especially now that the game will have radios we can use to communicate (though they could be susceptible to eavesdropping) some (most) people will still use skype, TS, or other programs like that because having psychic communication powers (who can still talk when dead) don't break immersion. Honestly, there are a lot of things that can be nitpicked at in Dayz, but 1st vs 3rd seems to be the latest scape goat. Just have official 1st and 3rd person servers, and maybe set up a new system for 3rd person (IE when you try to bring the camera up to look over a wall/past a doorway that you can't normally see into, have it bring the camera in close to the character's shoulder or something like that, preventing disembodied spying.) It's really a simple matter to fix. -
My good people, I do believe the Crowbar with a laser sight and ACOG scope attachments, along with several tactical rails for various accessories that could appease your desires is clearly the ultimate weapon.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
korrobravin replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well if we are going to disable first person, then we better force full grass, and full shadows rendered as far out as possible. Both of these give people who disable them godlike abilities of seeing everything in perfect light, and unobstructed by ground vegetation. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
korrobravin replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only thing I like 3rd person for is travel. Gets a little boring when running long, straight distances, and I like to look at the sweet hoodie and motor bike helmet I am wearing (But not pants, who wears pants anyway?). It also gives me a bit of a point of reference when using melee weapons on servers without crosshairs. But Dslyexci's points are solid. I always pop into first person when there is combat with guns, simply because the switch to using sights is less jarring when you are already in first person, and you don't have your character blocking anything that could possibly in front of you. Not to mention, how are we going to enjoy the shiny new animations without 3rd person? -

The only thing i can see wrong with a larger scale pre-alpha test is finding proper testers. The initial group is made up of forum mods, certain reddit mods, and some (important) people from Shack-Tac. In order to get a larger sample group (logically) you'd have to open "Pre-Alpha Testing Applications" then have someone go through and hand-pick people. That would be ideal, though I don't think that the team has the kind of time to go through and do that. An open alpha is really the best route. -

I dearly hope that there will be good business suits and hawaiian shirts, one must look classy if one is surviving the zombie apocalypse! -
Horses yes, ponies no. I'm fairly certain most grown men wearing around 75-100 lbs of food, ammo, and other survival gear might break the back of a pony... But horses, doesn't require gasoline or spare parts, win win from where I stand. Finding one, might be a bit tougher

I like this idea, but it should be more along the lines of GTA IV's style of climbing, where you can grab onto some ledges that are within reach, but not climb buildings ala The Saboteur/Assassin's Creed. More freedom of motion is increbily important when escaping zeds. A new fatigue system could also come into play, if you are tired, you might risk falling flat on your back, or if you are carrying too much loot, you might take more "stamina" or time to climb. I like this idea, it would also be hany for diving just out of the wing range of a zed, or didging a player's grenade. But you should still be able to do this with a backpack on, only the more you carry, the less able you are to finish the move fluidly. Also if you are packed with loot, you might accidentally break your fancy hi-tech gun from crushing it with your 200+ lb character (including gear) This would only be good for supressing enemies, and wasting bullets, although I am all-for putting in as many options to the player as possible, I doubt this would be used too much by people I love this idea, I can't tell you how many times I could have been better off if a friend could have tossed me another makeroni mag to finish off some zeds rushing at uswould have to be dynamic a fluid, perhaps maybe you aim at a survivor (withing a reasonalbe throwing distance) and they do the same, hold a button, and a circle menu pops up with availible slots listen at the top, and throwable items arranged in a circle below. To select an item to throw, you move the mouse around and click when the desired item is highlighted. Another cool feature to it would be to have a change to mis-throw, or fail to catch, making the item hit the ground near the target, possible causing damage to the item. Less than lethal, I like it. Though you should be able to do this while holding any item really. And like Zoey said, nailing someone with a blunt object with sufficient force should render them unconcious. Another thing I'd ad to LTL (Less than lethal) is poison darts perhaps, armed with a paraletic/sleep inducion drug that acts either quickly or slowly depending on the quality of the drug. This could be made from natrual plants and herbs growing in chernarus, or by mixing medication found in hospitals or markets. You could combine this with throwing dars as well, bow and arrow, etc. Anyway, those are just some of my thoughts on it, very good suggestion!

the zeds should have skins of dead survivors/snipers/bandits/heros
korrobravin replied to tigerww2's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As far as I can tell, that is a little how the PMC guys are done, only there is a single factor in the slot machine: the character's clothing texture (colours) It would be cool if the player and zeds all shared the same clothing parts (if per-body part customization came to fruition, AKA modular clothing (pants, shirt, coat, shoes, hat, etc)) that way the same parts would be loaded at all times (Saving memory). (it would also be fruitful to use tint maps for colouration of clothing, skin, blood/mud/ stain, and rips/tears to clothing overlays, but I'm not sure how advanced the material editor in the engine is. If it is anything like UDK, this could add a vast ammount of variation to the zed's appearance as well, but I digress!) Anyway, what all this rambling means is that a new zed could be spawed in place of the dead/infected player, only it's LOD is forced to render lower than player's (saving render cost to client). But I'm not entirely sure on this theory because I havn't modded the ARMA2 engine very much at all. After looking over my post, I think this could also go in a player customization thread... -

That is actually a great idea, I would hate having to constantly find a friend when we spent 2-3 hours locating each other the previous day... -
Yeah so I was trying to pitch a tent near Berezino, but each time I tried on a fairly flat surface, it failed example: So yeah, maybe make tents a little more lenient on the pitch of the ground...

Gather round the campfire fellow survivors, and hear my tale of extraordinary valor. Like all good tales, this one starts in our very own Chernarus. Now, two young survivors by the names of Rusty and Korro are out on a raid in Vybor. The two are doing fairly well on loot, getting some soda, and some ammo for their weapons. Now they accidentally aggro a few zombies, so they climb atop a school, and wait for the zombies to follow so Korro can give them a good few whacks with his axe. Now to make a tragic story short, Rusty has his legs broken in a tragic accident involving a hatchet. Now the two have been without morphine for a good long time, neither had really needed it. So Korro must go out, and retrieve some from the nearby airstrip. This is where our tale begins my friends. Now Korro is your average survivor, not extraordinarily talented, but he does well enough to get by. Now he does his best to sneak out of Vybor, and does so. He goes out of the town, successfully avoiding the zombies milling about the once great city. He moves with the swiftness of a leaf on the wind to the North Western airstrip, slaughtering a few animals on the way, as Rusty and he had no blood packs. The trip was uneventful, and he arrived at the airstrip in good time. He begins his infiltration of the strip silently, reaching a barracks building without attracting any attention. He earnestly ransacks the building in hopes of finding morphine, but alas, there was none to be found. However, he does find an M104, and a fair ammount of ammunition for it. Next he moves to search the hangars for the morphine, and on his way across the airstrip, he hears gunfire. He immediately drops to the ground, heart pounding, Makerov ready. He slowly crawls forward, then moves to a crouch jog to the hangars, and searches them thoroughly, still no morphine. He again hears shots, this time from the fire station just up the strip from him, he knows it is his only chance, and one way or another must get the morphine, so he moves to the closest hangar to the fire station. Now our hero was faced with a moral dilemma, does he call out, and ask these people if they would be willing to trade for the morphine, or does he silently move in and kill both of them. Ultimately, his moral side calls out to them, "Hey, do you guys need some help?" He waits, unsure if the other two survivors would decide to shoot him, or respond, "Yeah!" they both cry out. Our hero nods slowly, then continues, "I'll take care of these zombies in exchange for some morphine, deal?" he asks, readying the M104. "Yeah, I think we have some in here, you can have it if you get us out of here." they reply. Korro immediately gets up, and runs into the fire station, taking down three zombies, then runs out, where dozens more have become aggravated, and are now running in his direction. He ducks into a hangar, and uses the darkened area to confuse, and eventually slaughter the zombies trying to kill him. "Ok, it's done." he calls out, a pile of zombie corpses littering the area around the fire station. The two unknowns descend from the the station tower, and meet Korro on the airstrip. The tension between the parties is palpable, one can guess that the either group is prepared to kill to survive, but our hero's actions have proven that he may be trusted. One of the survivors reaches into his pack, and removes the injector of Morphine, and hands it to Korro. A rush of relief passes over him, and he places it in his pocket. He thanks the two, and turns to run, heading straight for Vybor to heal his wounded partner. he easily slips back to the school without disturbing the horde of zombies milling about the town, and injects his friend with the leg-healing substance. The two stand, ready to beat feet and get the hell out of dodge, as staying in any town too long has always been disastrous. Just as Rusty rises to his feet, his head explodes in a mist of red. Our hero cries out in horror, and soon his own body is penetrated by the deadly bullet, and both drop to the ground, dead. And neither heard so much as a whisper from the sniper. True story, aside from some dialogue edits and streamlining for length's sake. Both of us were incredibly pissed when we got sniped, we had every survival tool, and had been alive for at least two days.

Leg breaks after crawling through doorway
korrobravin replied to MMooKow's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This happened to me, only I wasn't prone, I was crouched and walking into a building in Vybor (2 story house) Kinda annoying, cause I have no morphine... -
I actually really like this idea. I was running around the other day with my Enfield, and I wanted to make a silent kill with my axe, but couldn't switch to it without dropping my rifle. Would be nice to be able to just put my axe on one side of my pack, and my rifle on the other...

A few suggestions of mine/influenced by others

I like the radios idea, as well the customization at the start. Would definitely add to immersion, in my opinion.
