Poor baby. Don't get shot and don't expect free gear from easy kills. Problem solved.

What are your thoughts on camping snipers at Balota?
Xianyu replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
There will always be gutless, skill-less camping snipers trying their very best to be as edgy as possible and kill un-geared newspawns. Thankfully, they're stupid as well as skill-less. So when I get a scope for a mosin, it'll be a cakewalk to just sit on a server and pick them off as they try to snipe. Remember: If you can see a full five hundred metres of wooded forest from your position, a full five hundred metres of wooded forest can see you. -
Zombie Apocalypse shoot all surviving HUMANS

Maybe you'd be better off spending the time scavenging for all the extra letters you lost? -
I'm really sick of KOS scum calling themselves 'bandits'. They are glorifying themselves so far. Deathmatching is not 'banditry'. Anyone who thinks it is, is delusional.
-
Yes, but a player helping another player doesn't make that player stop playing the game, does it? If you think KOS and deathmatching garbage are all fine and dandy, go and play the mod. Walk up to someone and say 'Hey, I'm friendly.' Have fun respawning. That's if you even make it off the beach. Because it's all just one big, boring deathmatch. It's just a faggoted version of a CoD free-for-all where you don't start with any guns and you have a huge map. Why? Because there was absolutely nothing to mitigate KOS. The people getting constantly KOS'd said 'fuck it' and just started firing back. It degenerated from there. Killing someone is its own reward. Helping someone is not. You're giving up your own supplies, and trusting someone who, more often than not (at least in the mod), is going to kill you the instant they get the chance! It all just leads to a giant clusterfuck deathmatch that is boring as fuck.

So, I was looking around, and I've seen messages about people carrying all sorts of crazy shit. M4s with scopes, silencers, bayonets, etc etc etc. I didn't understand it. I trekked from one corner of the map to the other. I searched building after building after building to find my shit. I felt quite accomplished when I found a handful of 7.62 rounds to put in the mosin nagant I took off a KOS prick who tried to beat my head in with a pipe wrench. I was excited when I got hold of my pistol, even though it only had a single round in it. I had a Hoxton mask, an axe, and a backpack. I had my mosin, my pistol, two safety boxes filled with food and water. I had spent hours gathering all of this gear. This is my character at that point: And this is my characters as of five minutes ago, after spending ten minutes looting a military base. An M4, a new, larger backpack, a gas mask. Bayonet on the M4, a new bipod (I didn't swap out the old one). What you can't see is the new pistol in my backpack, the two extra mags of 5.56 ammunition, two medpacks, and more 7.62 ammunition. I left behind another M4, another pistol, another two camping bags and another medpack. Fuck, I even found a SUPPRESSOR up there. I promptly lost it because I dragged it towards my M4 and it didn't take (maybe because of the bayonet?). But one trip to a military base geared me up ten times better than the hundred or so houses I'd searched on the way there. And fuck, I was at the very meanest of military bases. I was at the northwest airfield. There were a total of five military buildings. Two hangers, an air tower, and two of the buildings that were previously inaccessable (which I love that you can enter now, btw). But this loot skewing is just so wrong. The only way to get weapons capable of actually killing other players (or defending against them), requires going right to the very places that are filled with the people who will be using said weapons. To kill you. Military bases are basically guaranteed weapon areas, while everywhere else is 'kindly go fuck yourself' territory. You might find a rifle or a pistol, but good luck finding ammo! So, what does that leave us with? People who get the military bases first? M4s for everyone! Scopes, silencers, bayonets, magazines! People who get there second? Axes, and lots of bullet holes. It's pretty clear that if you want to murder unarmed players, the easiest way to do so will be to hang around military areas. One trip is all that's needed to get everything you need to do whatever you want, so the people with M4s will fuck off and go somewhere else, while only the noobs who have no weapons will venture into the military bases hoping to find a weapon. Easy pickings. And yeah, before you say. I fucking get it. It's an alpha. Which would make it the single best time to point shit like this out.
-
Just two quick questions: Is the revolver residential loot? Please tell me it's residential loot and not more stuff to add to the already over-populated military areas. And also, shotguns. Do we have them yet? I've been finding shotgun shells around the place, but I haven't found anything to put said shells into. Someone said there were only three guns. That would be M4, Mosin, and the pistol, and now the .357, right? I'm confus.

Huh, I searched for 'respawn' not 'suicide'.

There are just way, way too many ways to get stuck in DayZ at present. Glitch through geography, get stuck in between geography, a little script kiddie f----t teleporting you into the ocean, breaking your legs in the middle of nowhere (which doesn't enable the respawn button, BTW), and sometimes, just because you want to. It's an alpha, and we're supposed to be testing things, but what incentive do we have to look for glitches in buildings that allow us to get under the geography if our reward is having a character that is stuck under said geography literally until the next server wipe? Please, treat this game like an alpha. Bugs will happen. Glitches will happen. We shouldn't have to go complaining to some admin or mod system just to respawn our characters when we (intentionally or not!) get stuck inside objects. I know I don't even approach an area if it looks like I'll get stuck in there. I could handle losing my gear. I cannot, however, handle having to wait until the next server wipe to be able to do anything else. Even if it's a command we have to use, like typing '/suicide' into the chat. Or '/respawn'. That would be enough. People will use the respawn option to scum their way to their friends, certainly. But it's an alpha. Depriving everyone who falls victim to this issue, a way out, because some of the playerbase want to be scummy little respawn stabbers, is really detrimental to the entire project at large. Don't search for them glitches, kids, or you'll be stuck in never-never-land until the server gods decide to start over. Hell, even just add the 'respawn' option to the character screen on the main menu with a timer of half an hour between respawns. That would be more than adequate.

I ran past a guy at the northern supermarket in Cherno. I didn't even know I was in cherno at the time. I thought I was near berezino. That's what I get for running around in the dark, eh? I saw him, he saw me, but he didn't SEE ME SEE HIM, so he thought I was oblivious. I jut ran past, because I had a splitting axe and he had a mosin. So I'm running down the hill towards the next apartment block (Towards Cherno, because I still didn't realise where I fucking was), and this pathetic excuse for a gamer runs up behind me while I'm axing an zombie and attemps to beat me to death with a pipe wrench. TIP: Axe > Wrench. So I turned around, hit him a few times, we circled, he hit me a few times. Except he was bleeding like a fountain after the first three hits. So I sort of dragged it out a little to wait for him to bleed some of that precious blood away, and then I murdered him with an axe to the face. My send off to him was 'Don't bring a wrench to an axe fight, fuck face'. I don't feel bad at all. Little fuckface deserved it. I just wished I had a pistol on me at the time. It would have been awesome to pop him in the face.

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?
Xianyu replied to Gingerizhere's topic in General Discussion
I like night time. You know what I don't like? NIGHT TIME ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Jesus H Christ. I live in Australia, and every. single. last. fucking. server. I try to play on has a sunrise at THREE AM. By the afternoon, it's COMPLETE DARKNESS. And I don't mean 'oh it's kind of dark', I mean 'Turn gamma and brightness to full and everything is still a fucking silhouette'. It is literally impossible to see anything. I could be three feet away from a zombie and not see them. If I wanted to melee a zombie, I had to stand on a hillside and hope it was outlined against the night sky. And shit only becomes actually visible after midnight. So fuck it. I'll play on 24/7 daylight servers. I don't like it. But hey, I'll actually get to SEE the fucking sun for once. Instead of a perpetually pitch-black darkness that seems to never fucking end. If we actually had servers that were, you know, maybe set to the same time as it is over here in Australia, then maybe I'd have a problem with 24/7 daylight servers. This is an alpha. We're supposed to provide feedback. Well here's the feedback: Night time is fucking garbage. Pitch black fucking nighttime for every single hour of prime gaming time (IE, any hour of the afternoon!) makes the game unplayable. When you are reduced to standing in a building and literally moving to each corner of it with your tab window up just to see if anything is in there, it is NOT fun. But oh, let me turn on my completely inneffective flashlight and beam the light through the walls! If I wanted to stumble around in the dark I'd turn all the lights off and do it in real life. -
You're all just farming military areas expecting to find it. Pssssssssst: Some weapons are found in residential areas. Get out of the barracks and look around.

I wanted somewhere to suggest the ability to play russian roulette with the revolver. Just imagine walking into a building to loot it, see a shiny revolver sitting neatly on the table, and a figure steps out of the shadows with an M4 and a gas mask and you hear the words 'I want to play a game'. Wouldn't be particularly hard to impliment. Maybe. Just give the revolver a percentage chance to fire after a 'spin the chamber' option is used. Oh, and an animation for holding it against your head. Imagine the fun that could be had? I'd be a real-life two-face. 'Here's a revolver with three shots. Place it against your head and pull the trigger. One click, and you walk. You can guess the other eventuality.' So, for serious. Please give suggestion subforum.

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
Xianyu replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Hey, you kill me for my beans, or my gun? That's cool. That's DayZ. But if you're gunning down new spawns on the coast, or just killing people 'because it's fun', then you're just a KOS CoD kiddie and should probably go play something else. -
So, we know it's in the standalone. We've seen screenshots of it. But the obvious, glaring issue hasn't been adressed to my knowledge; What's to stop people just logging when they're taken hostage? People log when they're fire at, when they see someone, when they loot whore, when they hear gunshots, when they're injured, when they've got zombies after them. They do it all the goddamn time, for every goddamn reason. So I fail to see how putting someone in handcuffs is going to stop them from 'combat logging'. In fact, I think that it would be a massive, massive incentive for them to do so. They're stuck, being marched around. The moment they're told to sit still, they just close the game. Personally, I hope that if you're in handcuffs and you log out/lose connection/get kicked from the game, you lose your character. That should go for any 'combat' disconnects of any shape or form. Because, hey, you lost connection during a firefight/while you were being chased by zombies. Your life is forfeit, deal with it. So, is hostage-taking gonna suck? I'll probably just shoot them in the head and be done with it. Might march the odd bandit or two into the middle of Cherno and force them to leap off a building or something, though. For funsies!
-
Yeah, because finding all my stuff in the north east airfield is 'on the coast'. I went from the coast, between Cherno and Elektro, clear across the map, looting as I went. And this problem is not a problem of 'only having three guns', but rather the fact that military areas spawn too many guns. Once they add more guns, the problem is going to get worse. I found two rifles, and two pistols, as well as probably a hundred rounds of ammunition and I didn't even search the final building. Also, so edgy calling me a twelve year old, try not to cut anybody.

What is 'modified data file' and why should we care?
Xianyu posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
<ORLOK says: temp pinning> I see like one of these every other minute. I've seen them stack three high. In blood-red lettering, no less. It's the same garbage message I see on Arma 2, and 3, and it's really starting to annoy me. Wtf is a 'modified data file' and why does the engine feel the need to tell every single person on the server whenever anyone (and it seems to be everyone) has it? -
Either that, or, you know, maybe make it so that the servers obey the actual time of the place they're set in. My gaming time, which is during full daylight here, is in pitch black darkness. The sun starts to come up at near midnight my time. So afternoon gaming? Pitch black darkness. How fun. Please compress the day to 12, or even 6 hours.Give us a chance to actually play during the different times of day. I'm all for playing at night, but it's just a chore to walk around with a flashlight. Hell, I don't even have a flashlight on my character any more. So I guess I'm not going to be able the game this afternoon?

That was my entire experience for the first two hours of the standalone. Every building I found, every place I went through had been stripped bare like a plague of loot-obsessed locusts had descended on chernarus. I found exactly two zombies, saw one survivor at a distane (which I avoided), and trekked pretty much halfway across chernarus to find an axe, a green hoodie, a pair of camo hunting pants and a motorcycle helmet. Oh, and a bandage. That's the entire extent of my standalone experience. Just walking through the dark (even though I was on an Aussie server and it was fucking daylight- midafternoon here), finding the occasional building with doors thrown open and nothing inside, and that's pretty much it. I'm all for bringing the game back to being hard, but this is ridiculous. It's impossible to survive outside of Clusterfuck City (IE Cherno), or Snipersville (Elektro), because trying to get anywhere else requires resources that are impossible to find now. Not because they're not spawning, but because the places have been squeezed dry. No players. No zombies. No loot. I'm beginning to feel like server hopping would be the only way to even get hold of a simple can of soda. And I've no doubt in my mind that it's already happening, considering that each and every single building I've come across has been looted already. From the small towns, to the chicken-coop looking things hidden in the valleys, to the barns and everything else. Saw my first female zombie though. Put an axe through her chest. So that happened, which was nice. Oh, and I saw about five metres worth of the new swamp before an M4 round going off nearby scared me into turning off my flashlight. So that was nice too.

Hangs around the barracks Makes thread about KOS. Kay.

Uhm, so you would have everyone who ever plays the alpha ever 'stop crying and get over it'? I'm afraid that's not the point of a fucking alpha. Holy shit you must have some serious cognitive dissonance going on up there. On one hand you say 'it's not fully developed' and then the other you say 'so shut the fuck up'. Those two ideas do not go hand-in-hand. If everyone just 'stopped crying and got over it' then there wouldn't need to be an alpha, would there? The entire point of the alpha is to find balance and eradicate bugs. And I'm saying right now, there is no balance. The military areas are spawning too many weapons, attachments, medical supplies, and everything else. They are basically a guaranteed stop for not only weapons, but ammunition and medical supplies as well. And the people who gear up at the military areas are almost untouchable for anyone who doesn't. Weapons spawn too sparsely in civilian areas for anybody to effectively combat someone who spent ten minutes in a military area. By spending ten minutes in a military area, a player basically makes themselves untouchable to the other players. Watch some streams. From what I hear it's just guys with silenced M4s picking off helpless other players who are armed only with axes. Which is the kind of thing that Rocket was apparently trying to steer the standalone away from. But this problem is going to exist even with an introduction of hordes of zombies. Because the military spots are spawning weapons and ammunition at a rate exponentionally higher than any other area in the game. People who want to kill other players will just run to the military areas, gear up, and go hunt players. And because of the fact that military areas are the only areas that actually have weapons and ammo in them, they're going to be completely uncontested. In the mod, you could go to a barn and pick up a dinner bell. You could wander off to a fire station and get a shotgun. You could find pistols and whatnot with some regularity in residential areas. But as of this moment there is no dynamic. Period. You either search a hundred buildings in the weak hope of finding a weapon and ammunition, or you go, unarmed, into a military area. Wanna guess how that'll end? Spend ten minutes in balota on any server for some idea. Don't worry. I'll wait. BTW I have put the game down. Until 3AM tonight. When the sun comes up. But I have an M4, a pistol, food, water, and medical supplies. So it's not like I need to really loot anything any more. I'm at the current 'end game' after ten minutes in a military base. That's not right. And if no one says it's not right, it'll never get fixed.
-
Why don't you use your brain and understand that 'alpha' does not mean a game is above critique. It means the exact opposite, in fact. And just, by the way, the pistol, mosin, and M4 have a distribution something like this: Mosin - nowhere. As rare as the CZ550 in the mod. Pistol - also nowhere in the civilian areas, even though it does spawn there (That's where I found mine). And yet military areas have scopes, rifles, pistols, bags, and everything else just falling out of them. If the alpha continues in this vein, with military areas overflowing with guns and attachments, then it's going to end up the exact same way as the mod. KOS with high powered weapons because they're far, far too easy to find. But, wait, it's an ALPHA, so obviously we can't say anything bad about it without sheep like you bleating 'alpha! Alpha!' over and over and over again like it means a fucking thing.
-
It's gotten worse than the mod. At least in the mod you can find the odd pistol. A Dinner Bell. Or something. In the alpha it's military base or bust.
-
It might be a lot harder once zombies are actually in the game. Which is going to exacerbate this situation even more. People will need guns to survive.Military bases are teeming with guns. Guns are nowhere else.
