  1. One thing that I've found that might not be common knowledge, and especially to the new players... Zombies carry loot. Lots of different loot. Items like bandages, tin cans, beans, and soda, those all change your crosshairs when you aim at a zombie, giving you a context-option to pick them up directly from the body. But if you search bodies using the 'gear' key, you can find substantially more. Military zombies carry everything from STANAG ammunition, AK mags, to grenades and such. So if you're running low on ammunition for your primary... try shooting some military zombies and checking the bodies! Tedious to check every body manually, but very rewarding.

How to make death actually matter more

You want to add more impact to death? Take random screenshots of a character every five minutes. When you die, the 'you are dead' screen is replaced by these screenshots, deliberately sepia/black-&-white'd, and this plays in the background. Boom. Dying sucks.
  3. Okay, before I read your post, here's a tip. When you write something up in notepad, TURN OFF WORD WRAP BEFORE COPY PASTING. Kthnx.

Why bandits are needed in dayz...

I love bandits. They're fun. And I hunt them. Without bandits, I have no one to hunt. No fun to be had just avoiding zombies and nothing else. That being said, greifers need to go the fuck away. People who shoot new spawns on the coast and justify it because they 'feel threatened' or 'hey might take my loot later on' need to just stop playing. At that point, they're just glorified greifers. And don't even get me started on the people who camp hills with AS50's. Ugh. But bandits? They're fun.

    SA: start out 'sickly'

Perhaps. While that is a valid point, the same would be said for the beach snipers. If they start off sickly and less able to aim a rifle well, they can't snipe of they get killed and respawn. And if the damage in the standalone is the same as the mod... Well, there's no FEASIBLE way for a guy with a makarov to kill anyone with an automatic weapon. Sure, you can aim for the face, but the odds are so far stacked against you, you might as well just duck and hope he misses all his ammunition. People will kill people on the beach no matter what you do.

    Makes so much sense...

I remember my first can of dew... I was on a 55 day old character, outside of Elektro. Me and a friend had just traveled down from the northeast airfield. We come across a tent, we peek inside. There's stuff there. Lots of stuff. Guns, ammunition, supplies. And a lone can of mountain dew. I pick it up. I'm happy. And then Mr. Invisi-SKIDDIE starts firing at us from a few metres away with an m16 or similar weapon. Me and my friend both die after 55 days of survival. Less than a minute after picking up a can of mountain dew. Fuck mountain dew, man.

Good luck, bro. You're gonna need it.

How to make death actually matter more

Why not have dead bodies attract zombies? After a while, the smell would start to attract them to the blood. And if you've got twenty zombies all chowing down on your previous life, you aint looting it.

    Will SA be modder friendly?

Even SERVER OPTIONS are destructive to the state of the game. 500+ vehicle servers. Start with weapons. Etc etc. Mods should just fuck off for the standalone. At least for the first year or so. I love new maps. Chernarus gets really boring. But everything else, I've pretty much hated. Just divides the community and divides the server base.
  11. Xianyu

    Dog tags

It would give incentive to hunt bandits? I hunt bandits myself, if you noticed my sig. There is no way to 'confirm' a kill in DayZ. No way to show what you did in a life except hearsay and the debug monitor. And as I said, I'd prefer to get killed for dogtags rather than just because some CoD kiddy is bored. And what, praytell, would we do other than kill people in the end game? Everything else has been suggested. Base building. missions (lolrite), and etc. They're just shallow things. In a sandbox environment, you can only facilitate gameplay, rather than force it. You can think of things to add to BUILD gameplay around, but you can't directly add gameplay without removing the sandbox.
  12. My god this is going to be a such a problem in the standalone. I mean, a massive problem. Right now, it's not that big a deal. But who remembers back before private hives? I never approached the barracks alone because I knew there was a very high chance of someone spawning in three feet away, or sometimes, in the very rooms themselves. Now compare this to the standalone: Items are spawned in at the start of the server. There's no need for any of this bullshit about running around. You get in, look around. Everything's spawned. You don't need to run away and come back, or spawn further out. You can spawn directly into the room itself, get all the loot, leave, and go to another server and do the same again. Am I the only one who's beginning to think that this is going to be the single biggest problem in the standalone? Fuck immersion breaking. All of the fire stations will be picked clean constantly by server hoppers. Churches will be. So will bars. And don't even get me started on deer stands and military tents. The barracks will be a no-go zone for anyone with a brain, because they'll be picked clean the instant they have loot in them, and server-hoppers will make approaching them an insane prospect. It's like trying to watch out for an enderman. He can just teleport three feet behind you, appear out of nowhere. Now, compound the current DayZ game state, with the fact that zombies will be harder. Losing them will be harder. Everything will be pretty much harder. Do you think these ADD-as-fuck CoD kiddies that infest the game at present, will be able to handle having to LOOK for their gear? No. They'll pick a random house, server hop until they get a primary or a secondary, and then run for a military area to do the same. I think the standalone will be broken by this for the first few months... I'll probably play for a week, and then never touch it again until private hives are enabled.

    SA: server hopping

Newsflash: I'm ADHD and played around about 2000 matches of CoD Black Ops. I fucking hate the FAMAS with a passion and think anyone who used it should have their own place in hell RESERVED. I use these terms because they summon up the imagery I want it to. What else am I meant to call them? 'Those people who just want to PVP and KoS all the time'? Or 'CoD kiddies'? I think I know which one I'll stick one. This is a forum. This is the internet. We don't need to be 'politically correct'. Fuck, I'll take 'correct' half of the time and be happy. Stop getting so up in arms because the fanbase of one of the games you play is used to derogatorily refer to a group of people. Unless you intend to tell me that CoD HASN'T devolved into 12 year olds twitch-shooters doing their stupid 'trick shots' and 'no scopes' and bullshit like that? P.S. I criticize others on how they play the game - namely the PvP CoD kiddies who backstab and spend their time sniping people from hillsides, thinking that they're somehow 'cool' for it - because they ruin the game for the people who DON'T want to play like that. Wanna be friendly? You can't. Find a survivor. Walk up. Say 'friendly'. Repeat, ten times. On a server without side chat. I'd say do it on a Hive server, but that's a joke, considering there's like two left. Now tell me how many times you got shot in the face. Extra points if you have a primary weapon when you do it. if you're unarmed, there's about a 3% higher chance of not getting your face fucked with bullets. the 'KoS' mentality brought in by the 'casual' gamers has bled through to every single player. No one is friendly. No one pretends that anyone else might be. Even myself, who hunts bandits, I do not reveal myself to ANYONE. Period. Why? Because the ADD as fuck CoD kiddies will shoot you on sight, the 'bandits' will kill you for your loot, and then 2% of the population will run away because they either A) have no weapon, or B) actually want to play a zombie survival game. Leaving the remaining 1% of players to actually go 'hey, a survivor, maybe we can team up! :D ' But don't worry, the CoD kiddies are hard at work teaching that 1% fucking moron that trusting ANYONE for ANY reason at ANY time will only earn you a bullet in the back.

    Dog tags

That was a possible thing that could come from the dog tags. Or even a 'bounty day' where people hand out loot to those survivors who bring them the dog tags of bandits.

    SA: server hopping

Because 'casual gamer' implies that I'm talking about people who spend a few hours playing it every now and again, and not spasticated ADD-infested immature pricks seeking instant gratification. plus, calling other people 'casuals' implies that I'm not. That I'm some kind of hipster gamer. 'Yeah, I played CoD before it was cool and I never kill people.' 'CoD Kiddie' just very eloquently brings to mind the kind of associations I want it to. That's what a word, or title, should do.

    SA: server hopping

Pretty much, yeah. Ask anyone. The KoS mentality that infects 98% of players, the whole 'omg I'm an edgy bandit Kos'er!' came about IN FORCE after the massive influx of gamers. Before that, it was a much more sedate, less ridiculously PvP orientated experience. Sure, some of the patches that hamstrung zombies and made them no harder to shrug off than a light breeze, contributed pretty badly to the KoS mentality. But the massive influx of 'casual gamers' who came from youtube expecting 'OMG I CAN SHOOT SURVIVORS!' irreparably ruined the experience for people who didn't want a massive KoS shitfest. Right now, the mentality of those gamers has bled through to the rest of the community, so much so that it's EASIER to shoot another survivor because they were MORE than likely going to shoot you the moment they saw you anyway. It's safer to assume that these people are going to shoot you because 90% of the time, they will. Even if you're completely unarmed, half of the community will shoot you. These are CoD kiddies. Don't like the term? Too fucking bad. That's what they are. ADD, spastic fucks who just kill people on site because it's 'fun'. Their only reason for playing the game is to shoot other survivors. And sure, maybe it's a playstyle. but it's a shit, cowardly playstyle that has successfully bled through the entire mod until it's just one big PvP match. Except you have to find your guns. Fuck, remove the zombies and you just speed up the process a little. So I make NO apologies for calling people like this 'CoD kiddies', because associating them with 12 year old little ADD-infected shitstains who need gratification from PvP every ten minutes so as not to lose interest is an apt comparison in my mind.
  17. I'm suggesting that the harder server difficulties, the more 'intense' servers, all force first person view. I'm not a fan of constantly running around in first person. I really am not. And I prefer to play on the harder servers. But third person is just too powerful of a tool for ambushing, hiding, wallpeeking, etc etc etc. Veteran servers with high difficulty should force first person to make the game more visceral and intense. No more will you be watched from out of line of sight by a sniper, or be wall-peeked by the guy hiding behind it. It'll actually make the veteran servers more realistic and less camped. And if you can't handle first person, play on the kiddie servers. Sure, it'll be an unpopular decision... but at least the CoD kiddies who need their wallpeeking to stay alive will stay off the veteran servers, neh?

Ha... hahahahahaheeheeehaahahaha Walk into Cherno or Elektro on a populated server. That's all the evidence you need.

    SA: server hopping

Oh I'm sorry, but comparing the current state of the game to a TF2 is impossible because there's no teamwork, and it's all just KoS shit. CoD has infected DayZ, and if you can't see it, you should get your head out of your ass.
  20. So, server hoppers are a problem in the main hive. And come the standalone, without pretty stringent anti-hopper systems, it's going to EXPLODE out of control. Loot spawns at server start... so server hoppers will have instant access to it the moment they spawn. Even if they spawn right in the room itself. So what are the systems that are used to combat hoppers? The big ones are: Relocation: move the hopper somewhere else. This has the issue of catching innocent parties in its net and forcing them to a predetermined point. The problem with this is that people can camp those predetermined points and murder the people who spawn there; legit players and hoppers alike. Deprivation: Spawning in on top of loot causes it to disappear. This has the problem of removing loot from high-traveled areas. That is to say, places like the barracks. What if you disconnect at the barracks by accident, and then come back in there afterwards? The loot is all gone. Disappeared into the ether. It also deprives other survivors of the loot because of one server hopper removing all loot from the one place that has the best chance of spawning in good loot. Isolation: A server hopper is restricted in the servers he can access. He can't keep hopping to a new server by some system. An inelegant solution. Sort of like trying to pop a tire with a rocket launcher. A lot of innocent people can get caught in that net. My idea is: Invisi-loot™! When someone hops to a new server, that is to say, a second server within an hour of another, a countdown begins. Fifteen minutes. During that fifteen minutes, any 'rare' loot is invisible to that player. They can't see it. They can't interact with it. They can't pick it up. Fifteen minutes of grace before you can find a pistol, a shotgun, a rifle, ammunition, ghillie suit, etc etc etc. So, for those fifteen minutes, a player would only see junk. Tin cans. Razor blades. Toilet paper. Cans of drink. Bandages. Tins of beans. The basic survival items, food and water, still are visible to you. You can pick those up. So you won't starve or die of dehydration while waiting for loot to spawn in. And innocents don't really get caught in this net. But Xianyu, it affects EVERYONE! Really? Reeeeeeeally? How, praytell, does this affect everyone? Well, loot is invisible for fifteen minutes. Okay, so, run from Kamenka to Cherno. Time it. Don't worry. I'll wait. Took longer than fiteen minutes? Good. Now STFU. But Xianyu, what if I have a vehicle? That would be on your 'main' server, would it not? Why would you go to another server and then your main one? Because I wanted to. Okay, so you spawned in at your base, probably in the woods, and drove a car to a nearby spawn in under fifteen minutes. Okay... so? Wait. But this idea still sucks because it doesn't account for people with vehicles. I argue that if you have vehicle, you're not on a 'random server'. Why the fuck did you hop to another server before going to your main server? If you have a vehicle on a server, use that server. Or wait fifteen minutes. I'm sure you can amuse yourself for the ten minutes it takes the rare loot to spawn in. And if you have a vehicle, you're not so noob at the game that you need to find a weapon within five minutes to be able to survive. But what about people who get disconnected for ping or network errors? You're punishing them. Not if you go back to the same server you were originally on. The timer wouldn't start because it's the same server. And instituting a clause for being kicked for high ping giving you a 'mulligan' would work fine. Just go to another server and hope for the best. Of course, the mulligan would have to only stop the countdown on joining a new server once an hour or so. This is to stop people from using a 'lag switch' to give themselves high ping, get kicked, and join a new server to instantly have access to good drops. Invisi-loot™ is a low-impact solution to high-impact metagaming. Only people who swap servers a lot would be affected greatly, and people with really shite internet (me included. I have some of the worst internet ever. 80-90% of current servers kick me for high ping, so I would definitely be one of the worst off by an Invisi-loot™ system). But between doing away with server hoppers almost completely, and inconveniencing a few people (myself included!)... I'll take stopping the server hoppers, to go, please. Vote Invisi-loot™! For a better Chernarus! Xianyu and Invisi-loot™ are not accountable to any damage to your person or lost revenue due to misuse of Invisi-loot™ and related products.

    SA: server hopping

Actually, in that theoretical situation, there's nothing stopping me from picking you all off. Because you can't magically appear and disappear from the server.
  23. That traps people like me. I get kicked for high ping, as I said. At present, I have to server hop at least ten times before I can stay on one for a little while. and it's only for the first fifteen minutes. If you're playing in a group that can organize and find eachother, on a RANDOM server, in under fifteen minutes, video or that shit did NOT happen.
