    It finally happened

I brushed past my friend and got broken legs one time. It was ridiculous. Can't say I've outright DIED to being stepped on though.

    Wind and ballistics system

You mean.... you mean to tell me... that bullets will now obey wind direction in a new update? If this is for the standalone too, I will explode. Words cannot describe how awesome this is. The only thing I can think of, is if I get this moment, take it to my bedroom, fuck it repeatedly, and make it have a thousand babies. I then selectively breed these baby moments together to form a second generation, find only the very best of these super moments, put them in an arena to fight to the death, and present you with the final surviving moment. This is how awesome this is.
  3. So, the ARMA engine currently has your character move at about 22KM/h when running, or sprinting, or something. Simply put, you can run from the coast, to the northern parts of the map in an hour. What I'm suggesting, is dialing back the speed that a character can move at, to something approaching 'normal' speeds. The reasons for this are many: First off, it slows everything down. No longer will it be a case of 'grab beans, grab water, run to X'. Let's face it. Once you get a tin of beans and a water canteen, you're all set for wherever you need to go. Maybe grab some stuff on the way, IF you run into trouble. But if the movement speed is lowered, and the health/thirst levels are unaffected by this, then you will literally have to stop and loot somewhere looking for food/water while moving on, or die of starvation/dehydration on the way. Chernarus will feel larger. Zombies will be able to be dialed back in their speeds from 'spastic kid with ADHD high on LSD' to something approaching normal speeds, and probably make them easier to shoot at, which they will need once they start running indoors. Right now, they just run too fast for the average gamer to consistently be able to shoot at them one vs one. And before you say 'hurr, it's supposed to be hard', zombies are supposed to be a threat in force. 1 vs 1, a human with a gun should be able to comfortably drop a zombie with a headshot, without having to wait for them to melee you. Trips will have to be planned; no more 'let's go to the north west airfield!' It's more like 'let's go here, and here, and if we get enough supplies, go up to the north west airfield'. Stealthier approaches will be encouraged. If you're going to be sprinting at 'normal' speeds instead of this 'African distance runner on steroids', then not being seen in the first place would be a better deterrent to being shot than trying to outrun bullets and your attacker. And the final one: Vehicles will be MUCH more valuable. To the point where having a working vehicles able to get you places without having to worry about dehydration and time, will be an actual tool for looting and groups, rather than just a simple 'luxury'.

Give a reason to play on night servers?

I live in the middle of nowhere. On a moonless night, sure, I couldn't pick out a person if he was standing in the shadows, completely still. In the SHADOWS. Because even stars cast light. The only time it gets too dark to see ANYTHING is when there's cloud cover. If the moon is out at all I can pick out objects in my path down to the size of a coke can. I think you'll find that in the middle of nowhere with no lights is when your eyes work best. When you just finished being blinded by your car headlights, street lights, etc etc etc it takes twenty minutes for the chemicals in your eyes to reach a stage that permits really good night-time perception.
  5. 'It's not going to be about advanced weaponry. The only advanced weapons that are going to be in are the ones with attachments'. That's what Rocket said at PAX. So... does this mean no more AS50, M107, MK MOD 0, Fal/NV etc? Seriously. No more OP point-and-click wonder-wands? I am cautiously optimistic. I feel that the AS50 and M107 have no place in a game like this, and 'no advanced weapons' is a quote I am quite excited about... But will rocket really deprive the endless rabid hill snipers of their point-and-click killing capabilities? 15:02 is when he says it. Hope level is through the roof. As a sniper myself, I so hope that this is true.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

You know, I played BF3 a lot. It has the same basic 'sim'in' bullet drop as the ARMA engine. With my M98B, I did some absolutely INSANE shit. I mean, one time, I was watching a guy abuse a glitch. He dropped down an M.A.V. (mobile aerial vehicle or something, a small hovering spybot, basically) jumped on top of it, and then used it to climb upwards at an amazing speed, so he could jump off and land on a crane and snipe from there. He had to be moving at around about 5 metres a second, straight vertically. I was six hundred metres away, being a good little recon out of the line of fire, counter-sniping. I decided to have fun with this mavevator abusing prick. I shot him in the head as he was shooting upwards. From a distance of 600 metres. With no easy little range-changer, too. Everything in BF3 is done by eyeballing the distances and practise. And then I did it again. And again. I think it was only three times I managed to shoot him in the head as he was doing this. No, give me a similar game mechanic, against a moving target, with a weapon that kills with a shot to the CHEST? Puh-leese. That's easy street. If I can headshot a moving target at 400 metres in a game with similar mechanics, then shooting someone in the chest is going to be pretty frigging easy. Add in the distance zeroing, and you have a recipe for death. Even a twelve year old CoD kiddie could figure out how to adjust for movement at range, and I'm willing to be a lot of them have. It's not so hard to think 'so aim in front of them, then?' Granted, I'm not sure what latency does to bullets, and my internet sucks lately. Plus, I haven't practised. I tend to shoot stationairy targets, because I know I'll hit them and down them with a single round before they can combat-log. And you don't need to set up anything. Run through Cherno on a populated server. I'm sure you'll get sniped sooner or later. Probably sooner.

Fuck healing people. I want to defib a ghillie sniper. While he's still alive.

Okay then, if this is a simulator, I wouldn't 'QQ' if it included ACE-mod levels of realism with the sniping. But when killing someone at 600+ metres comes down to point-and-click mechanics, it's not a 'simulator', it's a fucking game. And a pretty BS one at that. Unless you mean to tell me that with a map, you can judge distances down to the metre, and then click a button on the side of your scope of a .50 cal sniper rifle to get the exact perfect range amount so you can just put the crosshairs on a target and pull the trigger with full confidence of hitting them, even out to 1000 metres away? Some 'simulator'.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

I found them on a hive server. Once I started actively looking for crash sites (looking for a pair of NVG's, to be honest. And never found any) I started getting M107's and AS50's easily. As for being shot at? I can remember pretty much every time I've been killed in this mod. Sniped once at long range, shot in the face with an AS50 by a server hopper, and the rest are pretty much hack deaths. Died after being teleported to a hillside with everyone else on the server. I died after picking up a can of mountain dew to an invisible guy with what sounded like a M14 or DMR firing from a few metres away. Had a ghillie-guy teleporter run out of a tree directly besides me and my friend and spray us down with an M4. And that completes the 'deaths by other players' for me. Those are all the times I've ever been killed in PvP, off the top of my head. But yeah, I do want all the things I think are overpowered removed. But don't you agree that a gun that is perfectly accurate from 1 -1600 metres, kills in one shot to any part of the body, can destroy helicopters, is semi-automatic, and takes two different magazines, one of which is found is normal military loot fairly commonly, is a LITTLE BIT OVERPOWERED? As stated previously. What DO we need to have before you guys will admit that it needs to be removed? A farsight? I just don't think that anyone should be given the ability to EASILY kill another survivor at any range at any time without ANY effort on their part. What kind of game mechanic is that? It makes the game BORING. If you want sniping, you should have to put a long-range scope on an M4 and use it as a marksman rifle, rather than 'hurrr, I has 50 cal. you die now. durrrrrrrrrrrr'. Give me one good reason a one-shot weapon should be included in ANY game other than for destroying helicopters?

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

Why do people assume that my high disdain for the .50 rifles in this game stemmed from being shot by them? I've said it in every single thread when the conversation INEVITABLY swaps to 'oh my god, you're just bitching because you get shot by them all the time'. But lolnope, I don't. I've been killed by them twice. Once when I was watching Elektro and covering my friend (My fault for lying prone on a hill with a ghillie and an AS50) and one of the very first times I entered the barracks, when a loot-hopper spawned into one of the rooms and popped me with his AS50 from two metres away. That being said, I've started with a winchester, ran around, found an M107 at a crash site, dropped it for an AS50 at another, and found ANOTHER AS50 at ANOTHER crash site all on the same server. They're really just not that bloody hard to get hold of, if you know how to helicopter hunt.
  11. So, according to this, vehicles won't be available for the first while in the standalone. Bwahahaha. Oh good god. This is going to be hilarious. The levels of butthurt from people who constantly play on '500+ vehicle' servers suddenly getting dumped into a Chernarus where they actually have to run places? No helicopters. No cars. No bicycles. No moving storage spaces... Just you, the zombies, the fresh outdoors air and tents. As someone who runs everywhere already, I have no problem with this. But the inevitable deluge of complaints will be hilarious.

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

No, but when a certain set of weapons are the be-all, end-all of weapons for any range, they need to be removed. I remember a thread asking what is the best weapon for killing survivors for the different ranges, and someone put down 'AS50' for each range. And that's absolutely right. It works from 1 metre away to 1800. It's perfectly accurate. It's semi-automatic. It kills in one shot. The zeroing makes it RIDICULOUSLY easy to kill someone at ANY range. I mean, holy shit, what the fuck do we need to happen before you admit a gun is severely OP? Do we need a farsight and just start shooting people through walls from across the map? Would THAT be overpowered? Or would you just say 'oh no, it's using a very large round. It's not overpowered at all'? The AS50 and M107 in their current state ruin the game. And anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves, lying, or a blithering idiot. AS50 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything else. Name me one other weapon that can destroy helicopters, kill people at any range, has a massive scope, is semi-automatic and is insanely easy to use. You know, other than the M107. Maybe if it needs a headshot to kill a healthy survivor, I could tolerate it. But if you want to sit on a hill and be a l33t sn1p3r, then that should require SKILL. Not some wonder-wand. This is not a game that lends itself well to the inclusion of point-and-click mechanics. And that's all the current AS50 and M107 are. Sniping with the AS50 and M107 require zero skill, and zero effort. And killing another survivor who has NO chance of seeing you, from a range at which he probably can't even hear the gunshot, that's just hands down ridiculously unfair. And before you go spouting off 'IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE FAIR', no, it's NOT. So why are we giving the snipers an 'I win' button? Why are we including in a game that's supposed to be HARD, a weapon that reduces long-range killing down to literal point-and-click mechanics?
  13. Xianyu

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

Yawn. ITT: beach snipers already bitching about losing their 'I win' button under guise of 'it's realistic to have them there'. Realistic, maybe? Fun? No. If As50's and whatnot are realistic to be there, then I want to be able to repair a tank and gun down people on the beaches with it. Because after all, the tanks all didn't magically disappear, did they? What about the APCs? Rocket launchers? Gunships? The line needs to be drawn somewhere. And personally, I'd prefer the line be drawn THIS side of weapons that can kill you with one shot at any range with no effort.

    DayZ SA: Walking simulator

They're making it mad-max like. Instead of maintaining a factory model vehicle, you sorta hodge-podge one from many different parts from OTHER vehicles, from what I understand,

    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

I think they were there as anti-materiel rifles. Taking out helicopters and shiz. I hope they remove the helicopters with door guns, too, so then the people who do want the AS50 in the standalone won't have a goddamn leg to stand on.

    DayZ SA: Walking simulator

Guys. It'll be an alpha. I never accepted that argument when this was a mod. That was a complete cop out and a shield for the fanboys to hide behind when something was broken. 'What, this is broken? IT'S AN ALPHA AND YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN MENTION PROBLEMS EVER'. But this is going to be a for-real ALPHA. I recently got the Starforge alpha. And holy shit, it has more lying in the demo video than WarZ did. Seriously. They promised so many features in the video and in the game you get absolutely nothing anywhere close to what the demo promised. Hell, there's things REMOVED in the latest build that when compared to a previous FREE release. It's bloody terrible. But it's an alpha. And that's actually acceptable. They're building a base for a game. Things are allowed to be broken. If ANY you go into an ALPHA expecting a full game, then please, stop playing video games. If alpha's were feature-filled, complete games, then we wouldn't have an alpha-beta-complete sequence, would we?

    DayZ SA: Walking simulator

Watch the entire thing. It's not about 'releasing a completed game' at all. They're releasing a FOUNDATION RELEASE. Which is what the rest will be built upon. That's been said for MONTHS. They're still waiting for the server-client architecture to be done. Which is why they can't release the game. Which is well acceptable to me. If they were keeping us from getting the game, and pushing the release date back because vehicles weren't in there? Or something just as ephemeral? I'd be more than a little annoyed.
  18. People seem to think that by pushing back the release date, DayZ is going to magically not have any bugs... Keep holding onto that dream. It's gonna have bugs, exploits, and hackers are going to break into it. If not when it's released, then when content is added. Pushing back the release date just lets them work on architecture and base-level content. You only find the majority of bugs when you open up the game for multitudes of people to have a go at breaking.
  19. .............................................................................................................. this silence is stretching so incredibly long that I'll need pac man to clear all these dots. Have you ever heard of 'Aliens: Colonial Marines'? Or perhaps 'Duke Nuken Forever'?
  20. I keep going back and forth between two different things. A video of Rocket saying, OVER AND OVER AND OVER again in 2012 that 'It'll be out this year.' 'It just has to be.' 'There's not other way'. 'It HAS to be this year'. Just reiterating the same point again and again to an audience. And then now. 'Oh, hopefully sometime this year'. Doesn't give a whole lot of faith. I like that he's working on it. I like that he's trying to make it as good as it can be, but the popularity is declining, and it's coming dangerously close to missing the window of opportunity. People have already left the mod in droves. He should put it on early access on steam. It's almost stupid NOT to. After the massive hype for a December release and then just NOTHING, people are losing interest. Why be interested in something that they HOPE will be released this year? With every week, the active community will diminish. They're missing their window.

    Dog tags

Soooo, I been thinking about end game content in DayZ. End game content can only really be metagaming. Really. Shoot heroes. Be a bandit. Be a hero. Kill zombies. Horde items. Etc etc. You're playing a game within the game, basically. But that also leads to people getting bored. Hence sitting on the coast with a sniper rifle shooting at cherno, or something lame like that. So what I'm thinking is: Dog tags, to facility end game metagaming and create new 'avenues' of gameplay. Basically, the dog tags are a character record. They're around your characters neck from spawn to death. once you die, they can be removed, not before. They form a semi-permanent record of your death. Upon the dog tags are written some key bits of info: Character Name Character age (in days) Players killed Game UID (more on this in a sec) So, you get these dog tags, you can collect them. Horde them. Perhaps the bandit, and the hero, will get fancy different dog tags to differentiate them. Nothing special, just a red or blue border around the outside. Just this simple addition changes things. Collect dog tags. Go up and down the coast shooting noobs and take their tags. Sure, you'll have a fistful of '1 day old' dogtags to show you're a cowardly douche, but it's how big in the pants it makes you that matters, right? And personally, I'd feel better about being killed for my tags than for being killed because 'OMG ANOTHER PLAYER MUST SHOOT!' Collect bandit dog tags (My favorite) Collect HERO dog tags - for teh bandits Collect SPECIAL dog tags. Like, say, getting hold of the dog tags of Dr Wasteland. Or Rocket himself. And that's where the GUID comes in. GUID is there specifically for identification purposes. This is part of the metagame. 'I want Rockets head. A helicopter to the man who brings me his dogtags.' If you have his GUID, you can successfully put together a manhunt. Sure, more organization would need to be had for that, but it's a START. And if you can find me someone who can hack somehow, using a GUID, then I will bow to you. There could even be events. A private hive set up by the developers, where the ultimate goal is to collect as many dog tags in a day as possible. Can you imagine the bedlam? The confusion and anarchy? Would you try team up and split the prize? Betray someone? Go all out crazy on the beaches? Or head inland and hope for a weapon that would give you an edge? Dogtags for endgame! Woo! Idea probably needs some tweaking. But I think it would add a new layer to the metagame.

    Dog tags

The game already has mindless killing.
  23. EXACTLY Go to an airfield and shoot military zombies. Anywhere, shoot military zombies. Search each body manually. Even if that little weapon icon with the three dots is there, you can STILL find things on the bodies. STANAG mags, AK mags, grenades, chem lights... there's a whole host of things you can find on the bodies that helps your survival that you just never know is there unless you manually search bodies. Normal zombies sometimes carry things like crossbow bolts and such, too.
  24. Xianyu

Why do you shoot unarmed players?

I love DayZ bandit logic. 'I've got an AS50, ghillie suit, enough food to last months, enough water for just as long, enough ammunition to destroy a small nation, NVG's, range finder, a silenced M4 in my massive backpack. I shot that unarmed new spawn because I felt threatened or because he might take gear I need.' Personally, I don't shoot unarmed survivors. Unarmed bandits though...
  25. I played DayZ every day, had a character survive 55 days before dying to a script kiddie. Me and my friend found that out by accident. We always thought that zombies only carried food, water, and the odd bandage. Nothing anywhere, at any point, suggests otherwise. Until you start searching them manually :3
