So, whats yer all favorite weapon? When everything is done and dusted, that is. Range, sights, noise, ammunition capacity, ammunition availability... Personally, I think the M16 ACOG has the best of all the weapons. It has a decently long range sight, is accurate, and the ammunition (STANAG) is pretty damn common, while the weapon itself barely makes more noise than a pistol. Zombies don't come running from more than a hundred metres.

I found the body of a camper one time. He was lying on a road with an M24 and an MP5SD in his backpack. I looted his body. Mother----ing NVG'S! I took his NVG's and his M24, and got the hell out of there. ...when I next logged in, the M24 was gone. But the NVG were still in my backpack. So...wat.

I remember the first time I fired my Leeroy Enfield. I was in a barn, I had six mags for an m1911, and five mags for the Leeroy Enfield. I ran out of ammo before it ran out of zombies.

I remember one time, I picked up a...something. I forget what it was. I think an actual AKM? I stuffed that sucker into my backpack. I logged in next day, and it was gone. And in its place, were five blood packs, three morhpines, and an epi pen.

Why not, during a server restart, cross-reference all permanent items on the map, against the map grid. If an item, like say, a vehicle, tent, or barbed wire, is found to be outside of the map parameters, then it is deleted. No more dragging vehicles off the map. No more tent cities 5K out from the map borders. Not to mention the people who DO drag their vehicles 5 minutes off the map will find themselves logging in with no vehicle and a very, very long walk in front of them.

Quick everyone to Atlanta 98! There's an INTERNET FIGHT GOING DOWN!
-
Oh. I leave for two days and suddenly everything is fixed! :V
-
So...no one can ever log in at Cherno, Elektro, or the Northern Airfields then? A more likely fix would be forcing someone who logs in at hotspots (barracks and the like) to log in at a predesignated series of coordinates in the forest/grassland AROUND the areas, regardless of characters inside the designated areas. This would fix (to an extent) server hopping for loot, and ghosting in the high-traffic areas.
-
I'm not sure what word to use describe this. I'm suggesting a list of 'elite' servers where your character is stored server-side. These would be servers where you would not be able to loot hop, ghost, or alt + f4 to avoid engagements (because you'd log straight back in in the same spot). I think this would be the fastest way to stop ghosting and loot farming, at least for that server. Any items on these servers would have to be found on THAT server. It would be a true DayZ experience. I've seen one or two of these servers around already...but I'm not sure if they're even legit. I'm suggesting an actual legit list, of maybe 10 different servers running this modification to the DayZ mod.

Logging out to avoid a serverhopper.
Xianyu replied to The Poacher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Logging out to avoid ghosters is legit. I was in the northern airfield, in the barracks, with a friend, looting. No, we weren't server hopping. We cleared the barracks, made sure it was empty, and then began looking through the loot. My friend was in the bathroom, when we heard footsteps. So I went prone in the room I was in (third from last) and just laid there watching the door, because I know the windows are magical bullet-stoppers. Guy starts talking to me in direct chat (doesn't know about my friend in the bathroom). We have the tactical advantage, and it's the goddamn BARRACKS, so when he says 'leave and we won't shoot you' I'm like 'lolno.' So then it's 'leave or we will kill you.' I say 'bring it'. So the guy is like 'okay, we're logging out now'. And he actually does leave the server. I smell a trap: so I get up, and RUN to the end room of the barracks, and wouldn't you know it? His faggot friend has just finished logging in to the farthest room. Well, a M4 on single shot does not measure up to a M14. I killed him, and then both my friend and I logged off. I have absolutely no regrets. I'm not going to continue to 'play fair' against a player who abuses the rules. If they do this 'ghosting' bullshit to get the perfect edge on me, then I will remove myself from their bullshit equations. Until there are measures put in to stop ghosting, I will log out when faced with a ghoster. -
Okay, a double-barrel, home-defense or hunting shotgun. That's pretty cool, right? But as I look at it, it just seems....lame. It's a double-barrel shotgun, right? What's the firing rate on those? Isn't it like, as fast as you can pull the trigger? Having never fired one myself, I couldn't say. But I KNOW the firerate isn't that slow. Don't give me that 'balance' BS. It's got two shots per mag. Having no restriction on firerate would reduce it to being a recoil-controlled fire rate weapon, kind of like the makarov. And with only two rounds, it wouldn't get out of hand. And that's another thing...magazines for the thing are two rounds. TWO. And they take up the same amount of inventory space. Can't we like, stack them or something? You know, maybe six rounds per space? At present, the weapon is just...utterly underwhelming. I found it in a barn, and was like 'hey, I like shotguns!' so I picked it up. Tried it out on some zombies. It's loud as hell. It drops zombies. But lack of magazines and the horrid firerate just renders it...useless, pretty much. I actually had to keep it, as when I picked back up my AK, the server went down. I swapped it out for a Leeroy Enfield the first chance I got. Yeah, that's right. I prefer the dinner bell over this underwhelming POS. Thoughts?

[Questionable] New military grade spawn area?
Xianyu replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, so, when I swapped three+ different servers getting kicked for high ping, I rolled a 0 for zombies each and every single bloody time? Against a building that is apparently loaded with MILITARY SUPPLIES, hasn't been found and added to the maps, and no one is willing to screenshot? Seems legit. -

[Questionable] New military grade spawn area?
Xianyu replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I shall also all BS, because guess what? I was in that area recently. Server-hopping due to every single frigging server I joined kicking me for high ping. Wanna know what I saw? A broken Ural truck that I purloined some cans of drink from. And that's it. The most telling sign? No. Zombies. Wanna know why cities have more zombies? Because loot spots generate zombies. Ergo, no zombies, no loot. -

The fuck is this, a Grifter thread? -
No longer give us shock status for random damage. I got damaged by a glitch/zombie, healed myself up, got a blood transfusion, got D/c'ed, and suddenly, I have to be unconscious for FIVE MINUTES? What the fuck, man? Give us shock status ONLY for being shot at, or hit, by another survivor. and then, make it impossible to log off while shock status is active. If you alt + F4 while in shock; fuck you, your character model stays in the game for the duration of the shock status, during which time you CAN and WILL be killed. No more ghosting. No more alt + f4'ing to get out of combat. No more being knocked unconscious upon log in because of a ZOMBIE or terrain glitch of all things.
-
Can zombies grant the shock status? Me and a friend were wandering the wilderness out by devils castle. I'm pretty frigging certain there was no-one nearby. I managed to agro some zombies, so I whip out the M1911 to kill em, when suddenly, a zombie runs up. I'm on the deck, bleeding, unconscious, down to 8000 health from 12000, and I have the SHOCK STATUS. Can a glitch grant you the shock status? I ask because my friend had time to shoot the zombies, and then bandage me up and give me a blood transfusion...and we didn't get hit during all that time. We ran away from the spot, scanned like all hell, and didn't find a single tango. logic dictates that if it was a player, then we both should have died. Instead...it would have to be a player who shot me once with a weapon that takes off 4000 blood a hit, and then....ran away. So, yeah. Zombies/glitches and shock? does this happen?

Don't modify it. Don't nerf it. Remove it. As it stands now, it the most abused, and least useful object in the game. It literally does nothing against zombies. Nothing. It is capable of breaking your legs and killing you outright when you attempt to step over it. The only way to remove it is by aiming at two VERY specific, VERY tiny areas in the centre of the wire, and people already place the wire in such a way that it cannot be removed unless you are already inside the building. In its current state, barbed wire is an EXPLOIT. It is not a tool. It is not an annoyance. It is an exploit used to make it impossible for new players to start the game, and to protect loot-farming server-hoppers, which are already considered EXPLOITERS. Show me one server where barbed wire is used in a constructive sense. It does not protect camps. It does not stop zombies. It does not block roads. It is used purely for exploitative purposes. If any CHANGES are to be made to the barbed wire, it needs to; A) stop zombies. B) stop players C) have an increased 'interaction box' so it can be removed at any point along its length D) be limited in its use E) only be placable when in possession of a toolbox At present, barbed wire is an exploit. Not a tool. Not an annoyance. Exploit. And the only people who disagree are server-hoppers.

Xianyu replied to despair (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I go to the erm, showcase. Go to showcase for the takistan forces, or guerilla or whatever, and you can try SOME of the weapons, but other weapons simply...aren't there. Like the M16ACOG or M4 ANYTHING. NONE of the shotguns... It's kinda hit and miss looking for these weapons. But generally, the showcase firing ranges (except the UN, which is like, a ten-metre away shooting range) are good for general firing practise. Just look on the map for the firing range once you're in the showcase. -
