  1. So, when you get low blood in DayZ, you're in trouble. You start passing out. Your screen is all grey. It's hard to hear shit. Blood bags or eating a cow is the only way to go, really. Blood bags? No good for the solo player. And eating a cow requires a hatchet for wood, a knife for gutting, an actual animal to gut, a forest for the wood, and matches to start the actual fire. Not very good if you're low on ammo and are missing on the main components. I'm suggesting stimulants. These would be a morphine-like shot. I'd say epinephrine, but that's already used as a 'pick me up' in the most literal term. When you're extremely low on blood, just pop one of these injectors to get yourself a few thousand blood back. 2000-3000 would be enough. For balancing purposes, the cons! Con 1: The injector is rare. Con 2: Multiple injectors cannot be used. A cooldown of say, an hour? That's more than long enough for a regular player to find a cow and eat that bitch up. Con 3: After injecting yourself, you get the shakes. Akin to pain or the shivers. These shakes last fifteen minutes and make accurate fire impossible. There is no way to stop these shakes are they are medicinally induced by the life-saving drugs you just popped. This way, we'd have an 'emergency only' booster that a player could use to regain blood in dire circumstances. And for the obvious replies saying 'but that's unfair', I suppose to blood-bagging a friend to get back to full health is 'fair' too. Lone wolves shouldn't suffer. Bandits can't get blood-bagged without being body-bagged in most cases. And it'll add a dynamic to the game. Take the blood-regainer now? But you won't be able to be accurate with a weapon for fifteen entire minutes. Low on blood, being chased? Pop an emergency REGAIN and try to get away. Because now you can't fire back without spraying ammunition all over the walls.
  2. Yes, I used the search function. It didn't give me much of anything that was relevant. Is there any news on this front yet? I'm rather fond of private hives. At present, the news we have points at zombies and items being spawned at the start of the game. No more loot cycling. That is GREAT NEWS because it'll mean that not everyone has a military grade weapon from their magically refilling deer stand. They won't have tons of ammo, or tons of supplies. GOOD ALL AROUND. But there are two issues with the main hive that almost always force me to go to private hives. Loot hoppers and ghosters. Holy f- me sideways do loot hoppers piss me off. Nothing beats scoping out an area for players, making sure the coast is clear, running up, and then running into some stupid little prick who's loot hopping in the barracks with a .50 cal and kills you in one shot. It's happened to me. Another time, (at the barracks again), me and a friend were hiding in there because we heard footsteps. They offered to let us leave if we just walked out (totally legit we won't shoot you we swear on our dead grandmother's grave and cross our hearts /sarcasm). I told them to kindly come in the doorway if they wished. So we could kill them. Of course, they did the sensible thing. They logged off, went to a different servers, entered the barracks far room, and then re-entered the server. After I saw the guy leave the server, I was all like 'hell naw', ran to the end room, and put about ten rounds of my M14 into the guy as he was spawning in. Take THAT Mr. Ghoster. But case in point, that story isn't uncommon. Except it's usually the guy playing by the rules that gets fucked over by the ghoster. I've seen clans use this tactic to hunt other players. It's ridiculous. Private hives just make DayZ, DayZ as it was meant to be played. Loot is taken by people who pass by: not by five people who logged in there, looted the place, and walked off. You don't have to worry about someone popping into existence right behind you, and generally speaking, the players you encounter are armed based on their ability to play the game rather than their ability to server-hop. AS50's are rarer because they're not found on dead bandits at Cherno. NVG's are non-existant because there's no server-hopper to find them. Vehicles are easier to keep hidden because there's a static group of people who play as opposed to an ever-changing roster of people logging in all over the damn place. Plus, people don't Alt+F4 as often in private hives. Why? You can't run to a new server is why. You log right back in there at that same spot. Private hives are just better in my opinion. So someone please tell me we're getting private hives. I don't like the magical Ender-men with teleporting powers and meta-gamed loot.

    Standalone - private hives?

I've been on some good private hives, and then I've been on some shite ones. I was crawling through Cherno, didn't even have a hatchet. Was quietly making my way towards a zombie-killing weapon because it was broad daylight in the patch that made zombies ridiculously hard (and much more fun). A guy rocked up on a motorbike. He was wearing a ghillie suit. He dropped me a silenced MP5, and a silenced M9. And then he ran off, leaving me the motorbike. It turned me off the server entirely. Same as these 'donate for weapons' servers. I can handle donations for things like tins of beans and warm clothes, as a taviana server I play on does that. It doesn't unbalance the game at all. But when they start handing out weapons? No. Just ugh. That being said, I think Rocket will keep a much tighter reign on private hives in the standalone, mainly because it's no a mod any more. It's a GAME. The servers have to be running the STANDALONE version of the GAME. Not the mod. The game. So unlisting the server from the server browser would effectively kill it, no matter what the admins did. This way, the private hives will be much more regulated than the current ones. And even though I enjoy getting from A to B quicker, I am really sick of '500+ vehicles' private hives...

    Standalone - private hives?

Not private servers. Private HIVES. These DayZ servers are 'private DayZ servers' not 'private hives'. This distinction allows direct control and punishment of rogue admins on private hives. Since it's a standalone, if you abuse your admin powers and say 'well this is a private server' Rocket say 'well fuck you' and delist them from the server list, thereby making their server invite-only, or maybe even not accessible AT ALL to normal DayZ gamers. Private hives do NOT have to = Private servers.

    Standalone - private hives?

Badmin, madmin, those can be avoided. Clan dominated: Can be just as bad on the public hive except that the clan can pop in and out of existance at will. As for pay for weapons, those can be avoided too. All problems with private hives you've listed can be fixed by finding a private hive that doesn't have a shite admin or a large clan running it. All of the problems with the public hive are endemic to every single hive on it.

    Standalone - private hives?

I don't think it's misleading at all. The topic is asking about private hives. The post is asking about private hives. I just included my reasoning behind liking private hives way way WAY more than public hives. Thanks for answering my question though. Sucks that there won't be any private hives at the start. Ghosting and loot hopping will be rampant.
  7. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. I love sniping. When I play with my friends, I am overwatch. Usually with a .50 cal of some kind. The first thing I look for a CZ550. And I'll take a scoped rifle over an assault rifle any day. but that being said, I really don't think the AS50 and the M107 add anything to the game at all. They're an 'easy mode' button in a game that's supposed to be 'harsh and brutal'. No other weapon allows you to theoretically kill ten survivors with a single magazine from over 800 metres away with very little skill.
  8. Suggesting a new 'suggestions' board to replace this one. Right now, it's a simple board style, except it has a single major flaw. The good ideas don't get looked at. Or, more accurately, the 'tame' ideas don't get nearly as much face time as the controversial one. For instance: make a suggestion to add the M4A1 Holographic as rare loot in normal military loot tables. Not a bad idea. Gets one or two responses saying 'yeah, that'd be pretty cool'. Make a post about adding tanks and APC's to the vehicle table. You get that thread on the front page for days while people constantly bump it with 'are you fucking crazy?' replies. I'm suggesting a upvote/downvote system for suggestions, instead of just beans and replies. The ones with the highest 'ratings' are the ones that are AT LEAST decent ideas, whereas the ones with shit ratings are pretty much guaranteed to be troll posts or shite ideas. Because what is this board for? Suggesting things for the game! That's a GOOD GOAL. But it's not such a good system when decent ideas are buried in a flood of shite that gets more responses and more attention for BEING shite.

    Fallout 3 style storage

They'll be 'hidden' in plain sight. As in, ON shelves and IN open cupboards. These things won't be an actual 'container' like a vehicle or a tent is.
  10. Okay. So. Stop server hoppers! Stop ghosting! Stop farming! Uhm... ... ... mind giving some ideas as to HOW one would go about that?

    New 'suggestion' board

I disagree. The posts that get the most comments and bumps are the ones that are that gets tons of suggestions on 'no, how about THIS?' Look at the front page right now. The highest-commented posts are: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/122280-they-should-make-single-player-for-dayz-standalone/ Which is full of people saying 'what are you even doing?' http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125449-how-to-handle-property-the-issue-when-being-offline/ which has spirited debate on the premise. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125207-weapon-damage-general-discussion/ which was a discussion about replacing the Makarov PM with the Makarov PMM, but has now devolved into a debate about gun damage. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/124876-replace-m107as50-with-less-effective-russian-equivalent/ My own thread that is about replacing the M107 and AS50 with something less effective and has many posts just saying 'that gun is old and wouldn't fit' and a bunch of other meaningless posts. This general pattern stretches back across the entire forum. The good ideas just don't get attention. There is no universally agreed-upon idea that gets more than two pages of replies because after the first three '+1' posts, no one else wants to reiterate what was already said. I made a suggestion about changing the way loot was distributed. Not one person had a bad thing to say about it. Five replies. Suggestion by someone else to nerf the 5.56 millimeter weapons? Five PAGES of replies. Mainly people saying 'no.' or saying stuff about the weapons that do 8000 blood damage. When was the last time you saw a 'good' suggestion with more than three pages of replies? And how many times since then did you see a shit idea get 5 pages of replies? Even a 'sort by bean count' would be an awesome addition. But right now, if you look for good ideas by looking at the amount of replies (which is sensible, given it's the only measure available) then you shit out of luck.
  12. Right. I'm sure that every single APC and tank was destroyed utterly. I mean, it's not like some of them would have run out of fuel or been abandoned when they ran out of ammunition, right? Because that's what would have happened. They wouldn't have magically blown up. You can't be that frigging DENSE to think that every single last tank and APC was blown up. You just can't be that stupid. They're not there because it would ruin the game by massively unbalancing it. I'm beginning to think you're just a l33t sn1p3r scared of losing his win button.
  13. This is a suggestion to do away with much of the metagaming that happens. Mainly, loot maps and etc. Chernarus is huge. Absolutely massive. You can run around lost and not find a town for hours (if you're not using a loot map). But loot maps have brought the game down to 'run over here, grab X loot.' My suggestion is: remove all current deer stands and military spawns. Except perhaps the airfields. Now, create two hundred deer stands, and build military installations everywhere: but here's the kicker. At server start, a random number (say 10%) of these deer stands and military base are chosen as 'active'. They get created in the world. The rest of them don't. This way, the biggest meta-gaming will be gone. No more loot maps. The people who find deer stands will be the people who scan the edges of clearings for them. The people who find the best military loot will be the ones that find the military bases that are randomly scattered, as opposed to spawn-scumming until you land near Balota. No more 'bad spawns'. No more rush to get to starry before anyone else. And server-hoppers would be butt-frustated in the extreme by these changes. And who doesn't love butt-frustrated server hoppers? It would make the world of DayZ a new, exciting, dynamic experience. As opposed to stale and never-changing. And lets face it, a week after the standalone drops, we'll have complete loot maps for everything. Every deer stand will be marked. Every building will be known. Every loot possibility will be seen. That's probably why new maps are so popular. There's a sense of exploration and pioneering. I've never been here before, let's see what I can find! You never know what's over the next ridge. You don't know if it's a sniper hotspot. You don't know if there's good military loot there (unless you use loot maps. Shame on you.) In short: Random loot for a better Chernarus!

What if we removed the crosshair?

Having the crosshairs there doesn't really DO anything. They're terribly inaccurate at any rate. The only time you even use the crosshairs is if you're spraying (not accurate anyhow), or if you're using the .50 cal sniper rifles at close range. So for both of those types of players, f- em. Learn to aim properly. Either way, shooting with the crosshairs is really terrible for accurate fire. It's better that these people learn to use iron sights early on. They'll get better that way. Don't believe me? Try to headshot a zombie at close range with the crosshairs. Impossible.
  15. okay then, why didn't the soldiers use tanks and APC's? Oh wait, THEY DID. And yet I don't see anyone except skiddies with tanks and APC's. You know why? GAME BALANCE

    Hack/Cheat Situation ?

Wanna test how bad hacking is? Get dayzcommander. Sort servers by amount of users. Look at the servers at the top. With over 30 people. Now wait five minutes, and refresh the server list. If you see a server that previously had 30 people on it suddenly have only a handful, guess what? It got hacked! :D

    Hack/Cheat Situation ?

Apparently, some DayZ scripts got released publicly for free. That of course caused a jump in the amount of skiddies. I can barely go a few hours without running into at least one.
  18. I know, I know. The mention of a 'store' or 'perks' immediately sends you all batshit crazy and ready to hit that 'flame' button, but hear me out. DayZ has no real 'progression' to speak of. It's just loot and run away. 'perk' systems are almost always unbalancing towards new players, and just makes it a mess. What I'm thinking is, a store for a new spawn. As in, when you spawn on the beach, you 'pay' for supplies. Not with money, but with 'experience'. Experience would be earned through acts, DEFINITELY NOT BY SHOOTING PEOPLE. Bandaging someone, giving someone a bloodbag, walking a certain distance, passive gain of exp over time, etc, these things would all give you a certain amount of exp to spend in this once-per-spawn store. The store would contain very, very basic survival gear. A backpack for an insane amount of exp. A makarov for about the same insane amount. A mag for the makarov. A tin of beans. A can of coke. Maybe a canteen of water for large amounts of exp. A box of matches. A flashlight. That's it. Each of these items would be one purchase only, per life. Ergo, if you saved up ten lives worth of exp, you could get a new spawn on the beach with a makarov with a single mag, a larger backpack, a canteen of water, a tin of beans, a can of coke, a flashlight and a box of matches. That's it. That is the entire extent of the shop. No ammunition for military weapons. No NVG's. No sniper rifles. No super epic awesome shit. Just very, very basic shit. The entire point of it would be to say 'hey, you survived for FIFTY GODDAMN DAYS all on your lonesome. Here's a pistol and a backpack. Get back to surviving, buddy.' Or to help a team member get back to his team. If you spawn on the coast and your teammates are up north, it can be a painful hour of running, which is only extended by the need to stop and loot places, which will be exacerbated in the standalone due to the new systems put in place. It would help both new players and the more experienced ones. And a makarov is NOT a dangerous weapon. You can empty an entire mag into a guy and still not kill them. It's a zombie-killing weapon, that's it. Beans, a backpack, a canteen. Those are all just stopgaps. The canteen and backpack might last you a while, but if the backpack is reasonable (say a normal coyote pack), it's nothing that an experienced player wouldn't be able to find in under half an hour anyway. And I can't stress enough: No exp for shooting people. We have enough KoS bullshit without incentivising it. And for the people that survive for 50+ days, you get a bunch of respawns with survival gear. You get an easier time of respawning as a reward for surviving so damn long. With a few tweaks, it wouldn't be too hard to make the makarov and backpack insanely hard to purchase. So if you use it to immediately hunt other players, and get killed, you won't get another one for days.
  19. In the new patch that made zombies devastatingly terrible for being summoned to gunshots, me and two friends managed to agro zombies in and around Stary Sobor. We ended up in a barn, duking it out with the veritable horde of zombies. I had a leeroy enfield. I used thirty rounds. Two of us walked away.

    Ethics of the common player

Order the unarmed guy about? He's unarmed. What's he gonna do, scream over the mic? 'don't move or I'll drop you'. 'turn around and run away.' 'there's an axe in that barn back there, you follow me, you die.' And if he doesn't do exactly as you say? You shoot him. There. Situation controlled.

...aren't there nun zombies around the churches? I vividly remember zombies in black robes chasing after me.

    Server restarts in SA

And that's different from now... how? Someone logs in at the barracks. The loot spawns for them. The only difference between this and the standalone is that the loot was already spawned in at the start of the server, instead of when someone decides to go there. There is really NO DIFFERENCE. Do I need to draw pictures? Make a comic? So, let's look at it from loot standpoint. Normal DayZ server, vs Standlone DayZ server. Both have a building. Both of them spawn in an M1911, a magazine, two cans of coke, and a tin of beans. Player A comes in to the server, loots the building. He takes the M1911 and the magazine. He leaves the coke and beans. Player A comes into the standalone, loots the building. He takes the M1911 and the magazine. He leaves the coke and beans. What the hell is the difference? Let me clue you in to the secret: there is none Both servers have the exact same loot, and the exact same happenstance, and they're exactly the same! The only difference between the standalone and the current DayZ servers is that loot hoppers will be MUCH more common as you can't sit there and cycle loot.

    Server restarts in SA

They already run out of loot at the same rate as before. I was kinda iffy on loot being spawned at the start, at first, before I realised that the only people affected by this will be loot cyclers. One person goes to barracks, loot is spawned. They pick up the best stuff, move on. Player 2 gets the leftovers. And then player 3. etc etc. With the loot spawning at the start of the match: Loot is spawned. One person goes to barracks, they pick up the best stuff, move on. Player 2 gets the leftovers. You see where I'm going with this?

    'New spawn' store/perk system

Yes, because it makes sense to farm a store like that, that sells makarovs and beans... I mean, it's not like you can walk into any supermarket in the game and pick up three backpacks, a tent, a shotgun, twenty cans of beans, and twenty cans of coke. Never happens. The only 'point' you made was ermagherd permadeath harsh. Which is a lie. Sure you lose your items. Kinda. But tents and vehicle storage have made permadeath kinda meh. If you really actually have a problem with dying on a server you've spent more than a few hours on, then there's something wrong with how you play the game. Sure you might not have a building, but after an hour me and my squad mate can have a tent stash with backpacks, assault rifles, food, water, and survival supplies.
  25. Xianyu

    'New spawn' store/perk system

Yawn. Another person with a straw-man argument. 'You must suck at the game, so shut the fuck up.' I've played for months. I don't NEED a store like I suggested. I can crawl through cherno, or elektro, and find everything I need. I don't get killed by bandits. I've been killed by zombies at least four times as much as by other people, including script kiddies. I've had a character survive 50 days before getting killed by hacks. Do I really sound like someone who needs something like this to get by? It's a convenience thing. When it takes roughly an hour or more to find a pistol and such as a new spawn, because you have to belly-crawl past the zombies unless it's twilight out, that is a lot of peoples entire playtime right there. It discourages squad play. So I made a suggestion that wouldn't change the game balance at all and ease respawn for people who play the game a lot. But hey, just because I have ideas must mean I suck at the game. I'd love for you to wander in front of my scope sometime. I'd break the 'no KoS' rule I set myself for a bigoted prick like you. Kthnxbai.
