Hello people My character was just reset. This post isn't to whine about it - was looking forward to dying and trying the new loot system anyway. It's more that I'm kinda curious what caused it and need a bit more info. Anyhow, this is what happened: I was on a server that I frequently play on. Server gave a five minute warning. Server gave 1 minute warning. I exit the house I'm in, and drop four beers on the ground (couldn't really figure out if the persistence was working, so I figured I'd just test it). I might've cut the one minute a little close. My friend is on the same server (in a different part of the map) and quits too. Wasn't much time left, so I doubt a zombie or sniper killed me in the last few seconds. We wait for a few and then see the server back up. The time was adjusted (at first server list refresh it said 8:00, but at the second it said 14:00) and there was 6/40 players on the server. We both join, get a "waiting for host", then a "please wait". When we load in, we're both fresh spawns without any loot. I remembered this thing from a fair number of patches back, about this particular message that meant you'd have to disconnect or lose your character. Does that still apply and if so, what was the message you'd have to look out for? Anyone know if all the 6 players have lost their loot? I know people on the server did have inventory - because within 2 minutes of spawning fresh, some guy with an automatic decorates me with five new bullet holes (discounting exit wounds). Since we both quit at the last minute (my friend was trying to finish cooking some steaks) I sort of have feeling this might have to do with quitting when the server is resetting. Anyone know or have a qualified guess as to whether or not that's possible? And finally: has anyone else seen this? EDIT: Thanks Yaddie for bug tracker link. (closed, was duplicate) Edit2: Oh, appears it was reported multiple times: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78

Sigh. Did a quick google of game development pre alpha. Three of the first four links showing up confirmed what I said. Well knowing it doesn't have to mean fuck, I do work with game development, and I do have an education in game development. Plenty of people are smarter, more experienced and more knowledgeable than me on game development. Very few of them seem to be posting on this forum though. I know when a cheeseburger tastes good - that doesn't enable me to run a restaurant. I know when I pass a bridge and it doesn't collapse, that doesn't make me a construction engineer. I know when a car is driving, that doesn't make me Henry Ford. Most people feel the same way about these things. However, it doesn't apply to games - if you know what kind of game you like, you're a natural expert on game development. It creates a fearsome density of wrong information or statements based in lack of insight. Anyhow, I'm back out of here. This forum is a shitnami of experts on game development and there's no way the tide can be stemmed. Always gets me frustrated. Just wanted to see if the wipe had happened and I made the mistake of clicking on a post. My bad.

Wiki link's in my post.

Why the hell would switching the terminology to something WITHOUT clear definitions do anyone any good? Also, DayZ didn't pioneer early access? Wiki mentions minecraft as an early example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_access Nope, wrong. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Pre-alpha You guys should really read up on stuff before posting your opinions. Opinions not founded in fact are worthless imho. I mean, these are wiki links. Finding each represents 4 seconds with google and internets.

Just a piece of advice: never log out on first floor. I personally don't log out in buildings entirely, but 1st floor and up is particularly dangerous since the game currently sees it as an invitation to break the hell out of your legs. A friend got killed by unloading a clip on the first floor. That'll teach him or whatever.

Yeah, seems the policy is disabling the action of putting something on a gun, not the state of something being on a gun. Friend ran around with a clown mask and a pilot helmet for a long while after they disallowed it. Looked awesome. Total psycho clown, and probably the only one in the game by then.

Really? I'm pretty sure I've seen melee killed zombie respawn but it could've been a few patches ago.

Trick to recover reset character?

Sorry dude, that's not how it works. You should stop saying it everywhere, since it's simply not true. -
HandDick and SmokeWeed. Does indeed sound like good people!

Chatacter wipe next stable build(.49) possible

Aaaawesome! They can kill AND violate all my characters if it clears the db of duped items. Lulz, so you're allowed to dupe and ... aww I'm not even gonna bother, your posts speaks for itself. In a retarded voice. -
Sorry to be an ass about this, but aren't you asking for the developers to tell you exactly what happens so that you can help them figure out exactly what happens? Sort of a logical short circuit in there.

Yeah I think the guy's point is that the random sounds have been there for a long time. Personally I can't remember having played SA without them. The whole sound system sucks tbh. Missing some sounds (which is serious when it's gunshots) while having too many other. I guess the reasonable plan is to not try to fix something they'll replace the whole thing in one fell sweep.

Ehh can't remember, one of the last ones. Went from a situation where it would work maybe one in five times to now, where it fails (for me at least) rarely (which I assume is server-being-busy or similar). I don't even fear low fences any longer. Tested it with three other clowns, and ended up jump-frolicking across an open field.

zombies no clip - sorry if already done
LeeVanSpliff replied to boonaroony's topic in General Discussion
Navmesh working doesn't mean the zombies can open doors. It means that they'll go through the doorway. Sometimes when the door is closed too. I guess that you won't always SEE them going through the doorway, if a few updates get lost between the server and the client. I'd say that 10% of the time I see a zombie go through a doorway it'll have one shoulder inside the door frame. Anyhow, the zombie behavior is definitely changed for the better. They follow you up stairs, run around or through houses to get to you and so on - that's the nav mesh stuff in play. That doesn't mean that zombies are working well yet. They still have plenty of things about them that are just placeholders. Frankly I find the zombie-sliding-backwards-while-attacking-hitting-someone-behind-it way more annoying than the wall glitching ever was. If them glitching through walls a few months back was so annoying for OP, I think he should probably wait till the zombie radar sight has been replaced with a proper stupid-zombie behavior. -
Dunno, but after they fixed the jump/vault button not reacting properly, I have high hopes that it'll be fixed too. Seems very similar. Not sure if it's placebo, but when I have a problem with switching from gun to axe, I THINK it works better if you first remove the gun, then take out the axe.

Any idea why it didn't carry over to the stable .48? Was looking forward to experiencing it, but it seems like there's still no shortage of anything.

Any of you guys wonder what time period dayz is in.

Are you suggesting that there's crime and corruption in the glorious socialist republic of Chernarus? Please report to the party office. Anyhow, you guys are approaching the car situation all wrong. Obviously when the dead started walking, people left in their best vehicles, leaving only the old wrecks behind. Why do you think none of these cars drive anyway? Crime lord would've probably left in his chopper. -

Nope, haven't seen one. And I've been keeping an eye out for 'em. Wild boars, on the other hand, seem more easy to come by now. Edit - they might get killed by zombies: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207919-chickens/

So, I haven't played in a little over a week... I can has question?
LeeVanSpliff replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Happened to me as a fresh spawn the other day too. I turn healthy while neither energized nor hydrated has gone into the bright green. Never see "healing". I figured that either they lowered the requirements to heal or put a direct health bonus on the action of eating. I believe I was both running and sprinting. Possibly like an idiot. -

I have a hard time seeing how the answer to that question can be both yes and no .... -
Yeah, I guess that the interface aspect ratio has reset itself somehow. It did so on a type of crash that I got in .47 and it looked pretty much like what you describe. Change it back before you join a server imo, 'cause it'll require the game to restart.
