I'm sure you've noticed that no-one in this thread suggest that Bohemian should be doing something about this ....
-
Yup, I agree there - social interaction is one of the best aspects of the game. You have everything on the line and you can never know how it turns out because it involves random people. Hmm, just sounded approachable to me. "Hi, I'm new and shit".

How well has persistent items worked for you in .47?
LeeVanSpliff replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
Uh, I thought this wasn't working yet? As in, as soon as the server restarts, the items will be gone. I thought the hotfix that'll probably show up next week would enable it. By no means sure, though. What I have noticed is that when the server restarts, the same boring loot you skipped before the restart will still be around. -
Every pvp encounter I had in eve had me on the edge of the chair! I love it when there are stakes.

Good post, good suggestions. I like the forced 24h cycle and the no white dot in particular. Imo the downsides outweigh the upsides here, as an evening on an empty server is wasted imo. It's supposed to make sure people can't join a low pop server and loot like crazy, but since I almost always play on 30+ player servers it would reduce my risk and make my hardcore server easier. I'm not crazy about the 3p hardcore idea either, imo it goes against the whole concept of hardcore.

Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?

Does the game become worse every update?
LeeVanSpliff replied to Bearserk's topic in General Discussion
Somehow, I feel like I'm owed a long answer now! -
Hmm, both those items would probably be in my category for military loot because you mostly find it at military bases.

What's next, a DayZ holocaust re-enactment video titled "Jews must die" while the band plays "Hakenkreuz am Stahlhelm"?
-
Only on that one server. It's not enabled yet though afaik (possibly on experimental).
-
My guess is that it's because no-one picks it up any more (shotguns being bugged and all) and the new loot system where unlooted loot persists on server after a restart. Eventually, we will be able to build a ship from shotgun shells.

Aye, the unloved sound bug. We all have the pleasure of that! I think it'll remain in the game until they do their proper overhaul of the sound system - no reason to spend time patching a system that they'll be replacing anyway. I couldn't reproduce the can't-attack bug like you describe. Killed plenty of zombies since .47 came out, and only had it twice. Here are a few of the bug reports on it: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15102 http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15174 http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15290 Frankly I wouldn't know which one to add your information to ... so many reports of the same bug in there.

So next time you see a nudist, just assume he was helping out some fresh spawn.
-
Yup, this is the patch notes description: Only happened to me twice since 0.47 - dunno why it happens so often for you. Only thing that works afaik is that relog that the patch notes mention.

Does the game become worse every update?
LeeVanSpliff replied to Bearserk's topic in General Discussion
Actually, they did put in a lot of police stations ... I believe it was to spread the loot out more. Like in the mod and previous versions, running through bushes help. Try looking at the zombies as they follow you - they sometimes stop, stand around for a bit like idiots. Then they spot you again and keep running. If you're not visible when they stop, they will just keep standing around. Another trick is to get them to suicide down a hill. Also worked in the mod iirc. Yeah it sucks atm. It's in the patch notes as a known issue, so hopefully it's being worked on. You can still kill zombies in melee, just sidestep and aim for their legs. [edit: and keep trying. Mostly takes me at least a couple of swings to get a hit.] -
Edit: Papa Duck beat me to it.

It's a way of playing zombie dress-up.

ULTIMATE IMMERSION ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE MODE!
LeeVanSpliff replied to R0B3RTF1SH3R's topic in Suggestions
Gods no. I'm sick of games assuming the global facebook-account-to-rectum-ratio is exactly one. -
I've build plenty of fires, but never with stones in 'em. The ones without stones work fine in my experience, but they're not exactly intuitive to make. I just craft the fireplace kit, try to get it to land somewhere dry (or you won't get to light it if it's raining). Then I drag firewood on top of it (has to be from your inventory, I couldn't make it work with firewood in hands or on the ground). This creates a fireplace with FIVE inventory slots. Initially I thought it was broken, because I couldn't drag my raw steak on top of the first of the inventory slots - it turns out it's only glitched: to drag something on top of the first slot, you have to aim for the second. To put stuff in the second, you have to drag to the third and so on. After that, you have to take matches into hands and you'll see an "ignite" option. Dunno if your problem is related to any of these things though, no experience with your fancy modern-day stone-fires! Edit: clown typing.

Went AFK to Poop and Character was missing gear when I came back
LeeVanSpliff replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
Lol! A brilliant plan executed with skill, surplus and overview! Did your character happen to auto-crawl when you came back? Because then maybe someone punched you out and took your stuff. -
I'll trade you a ruined orange boonie hat for that!
-
Only happened twice for me in .47 Sure, both times it was annoying as hell, but it's rare. I would never call something that happens twice in, say, 15-20 hours of game play "game breaking".
-
I sometimes try to trade ... not with a currency or anything, just bartering with random people I encounter. Also, I sometimes get shot meanwhile.

Well, granted, there are more high tech graphics engines out there. I never cared much about that though - maybe it's part of remembering how awesome 1024x768 pixels of 8 bit each was with SVGA. What I like about the DayZ graphics is that when I stand among the pine trees of a hill above a rural town in DayZ, it looks like a pine forest on something that looks like a hill overlooking something that looks like a town. It looks ... believable. And let's not forget the things that DayZ does well (and, I guess, the reason Arma2 was chosen for the mod): Huge landscapes, weather, realistic night sky, moving sun/moon and all those other thing that make immersion easier for me.
