You make yourself sound mighty server-hoppy ... Anyway: freshly started servers is the old (and somewhat cheesy) way of making sure you get the loot you want. I don't believe it works any more (but I could be wrong, I gotta admit that this persistence enabled/disabled/hotfixed/.48/tentfest has me quite confused). I've found a fair amount of mosin ammo in the current stable version - but most of it I've found in civilian homes. There might be a full 20 box, or just a stack of a few rounds on tables here and there. Oh and if you're just back form a longer break, you might have to completely revise your take on where loot spawns (both in terms of which houses and regarding where in the house). It changed a good deal.

They've got some stuff running that puts the items in all sorts of places when you drop them. On one hand it's really cool - you drop a can of something and it shows up on the bookshelves. Also makes it less easy to deduce if something was dropped by a player or spawned there. On the other hand, it sometimes displaces the stuff you drop. It typically puts it in the next room, or in a room above or below you.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?
LeeVanSpliff replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think the OP has a very relevant question, and I think this thread quickly de-railed into discussions on hardware specs. The game definitely doesn't perform as well as it used to. In 0.46 I amused myself by mocking friends who play on potatoes. In 0.47 I started getting some fps drops in towns. In 0.48, I seem to have pretty much the same fps in towns (maybe slightly higher). On top of that, I sometimes have a lag spike of approximately one second. It appears to happen when getting within rendering distance of a town (which is not surprising, but didn't use to happen on my system in previous versions). There must be some changes made that makes my FPS drop. Possibly some early version of whatever that still needs to be optimized. There were rumors of unoptimized buildings, but I can't remember having seen it confirmed anywhere. Furthermore, the latest patch notes say The missing notes could be very relevant for our understanding of our performance. The whole debate on hardware is sort of pointless till we know what the engine folks have to say. Just my 0.02 -
Aye. Loot a town. Any town. Then while you're leaving said town, look over your shoulders. All the way on the other side of the town, waaaaay up on the high grounds out in the fields, you should see four or five pixels flailing angrily while rushing towards you. That's your zombie.

Info on how to avoid it in here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207676-character-just-reset/ Edit: not saying this to be an ass, but if you name the thread better or use search you'd have an easier time to get to the information that can save your gear.

I'm trying to create a top 10 of the very best things this post adds to the discussion, but I simply cannot make up my mind.

DayZ is literally unplayable at the moment
LeeVanSpliff replied to private-pile's topic in General Discussion
Aye absolutely - most of the times I quit and rejoin it works fine. -
And a quick piece of advice: never log out on second floor. Even if you don't get stuck in the room below, the game might see fit to break a selection of your bones when you log back in.

Bug tracker issue number says that it's the 78th bug reported, so it's not entirely new :) It appears to be getting very common with 0.48 though (happened to me and 2 of the 3 guys I regularly play with). Which (in spite of appearances) might be a good thing since it'll help them track down the root problem. -
This pig thing is starting to border on the erotic ...

We discussed it here, there are some good suggestions as to how to avoid it: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207676-character-just-reset/?p=2082232 And it does work, friend of mine got reset yesterday, quit quickly, joined other server, character back. -
I once survived six minutes in Berezino. SIX!

Yup, if my server browser can detect passworded servers I bet a relatively simple script can too. Anyway, probably has something to do with this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/?p=1603380 If it were some third party who were responsible for it, they'd set up the aforementioned script to save money on having some guy read through emails. I guess these hosting services aren't all that keen on setting up something sleek and automatic to remove servers and reduce their business ...

Just scrolled through my list of first person servers, and saw four with "persistence en" or similar in title. Unfortunately 3 of them were locked, so only one server for this atm it'd appear.
-
Thanks, good info that.
-
Nice! Did you see a message or did you quit quickly when you found out you were a fresh spawn?
-
That's a pity. Seems it's getting kinda frequent btw, haven't seen this many reports on it at once before. I linked the primary report on it in the first post, please upvote. Seems it's been around for a while (id is 0000078 hehehe), but that it's grown some new features lately - didn't see a message and there's the maybe-related missing items. Did anyone who had this is 0.48 actually saw a no-connection-to-main-hive message?

0.48 - things I've noticed so far

No! No-one has! -
Is anyone else having character issues?
LeeVanSpliff replied to trimpampano's topic in General Discussion
Well some people have lost characters entirely. And I did lose some pants and boots (4th post): http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207676-character-just-reset/ -
I hesitate to ask ....
-
Yeah thanks, but I doubt it was that though. I didn't see any red message, and neither did my friend (could've overlooked it of course, but we were waiting to spawn and staring at the screen). Anyhow never paid much attention to it (never saw it, so I couldn't remember what to look for). Anyhow, also given the pants situation I guess it's something more sinister at work. Been at green mountain at midnight recently, so I guess i had it coming. Edit: nothing missing when I relogged again.
-
Looool something is definitely wrong! I logged back in (same server) and found my character bare-assed and without shoes! Can't turn my back for a second! Guess I shouldn't have let a low-on-blood character slam a rasputin .... I had "pain in my leg" thing going after that guy shot me - that might have something to do with the pants but since the shoes were also gone I think it's more because I looted both, say, ten minutes before logging out. Thanks for the feeback guys, trying to re-log again (found new pants and shoes, want to see if they're gone too) and then maybe post a picture of my bare-assed failure.

Uhh sweet. Hadn't realized! Perfect opportunity to share a picture of an erection
