    Controls not saving

No I haven't changed anything. The only thing I can think of is that I might need to run in administrator mode or it's something to do with running the BETA patch.
  2. jimmy163

I see no point of having a toolbox

You need it to remove wire and tank traps.
  3. Looking at http://dayzmap.info/ What does the red P symbol stand for? Thanks!
  4. Ah OK. Is there any point of marking them on? Do they serve any purpose in DayZ?
  5. So yesterday I managed to get an ATV and have a FAL NV, FAL, M249, M1014 and an AKM. Got 3 jerrycans full of fuel and all the equipment I need (no NV or GPS though). Also got enough meds to last a lifetime. This is the best I have ever done in the game and now I'm not sure what do to. Just drive around a player kill? I could drive around looking for crashed helicopters but I have enough stuff for a small army already. My RL friends are sick of DayZ and no longer play it so I am solo. What do I do? Hunt clans at the airfields? Drive thru Cherno beeping my horn?

    What do I do now?

Ideally I would like to run along the coast providing some aid to new survivors. A bit of cooked meat here, a Winchester there. Unfortunately I won't do this as I'd most likely get a Makarov round to the head. I wouldn't blame them either. I'm going to keep my ATV hidden in the hope of a few RL friends coming back to DayZ. Maybe a M249 will persuade them? Think for now I'll stash the ATV and make a long walk to Cherno/Electro and try a hunt some bandits with the FAL NV.
  7. Hello, I have an ATV that I crashed and lost a wheel. I repaired that and now it just goes in circles when I press foward, doesn't matter which way the wheels point it will go in circles. The wheels icon is orange, does another wheel need repaired? I tried replacing another at the back and the same problem. Is there anyway to tell which wheel is damaged if this is the problem? Engine and hull are on yellow. Thanks.

    ATV going in circles...

Just logged in and found my ATV with everything now green! Does a server restart fix all vehicles?
  9. jimmy163

    How to find a Vehicle?

Find a low pop server and go up the east side of the map. I found and repaired a minibus yesterday. Then found an ATV at the NEA

    ATV going in circles...

I can't see any damage to the wheels. I'm out in the middle of nowhere as well. Can you actually see damage to wheels that are not completely destroyed?
  11. I think sniper rifles need to be removed. If someone can hit me with open sights from far away then fairplay to them. But someone camping in the trees 600m away just sucks. You can't counter it.
  12. I believe the reason this mod is so popular is because of the addictive 'gambling' aspect of it. I guess you are gambling your life (and all your gear) each time you go to a loot pile. The loot piles are random and there is a small thrill each time you loot one because you could find something very rare. Loot piles are a little bit like scratch cards in their addictive nature I guess. You never know what you are going to 'win' and you constantly want to keep 'scratching'. The game as it stands is quite shallow in that all you do is check for loot and kill players/zombies. The survival mechanic is really in it's infancy still. The game is very repetitive and bit of a grind but somehow very fun and addictive. This also relates to PvP. Players are like walking loot piles and are also 'random'. The thrill of killing and checking their loot again is similar to a scratch card. You might find NVGs or a load of crap. Either way you want to keep 'scratching'. CoD is very repetitive. I enjoy it but only play for about an hour before getting a bit bored. DayZ is very repetitive but the thrill of each loot pile appears to keep me gaming for longer periods of time. When I die I think I will logout. But I spawned right near Balota tents. I think I'll just check them, there could be some rare loot. I check and there isn't much good. Oh I'll just check the airfield tower. It's these little thrills that give the game it's addictive nature. Other things about the game obviously make me want to play more such as the thrill of player interaction or desperately avoiding zombies trying to find some food but at the moment I think the randomness of loot piles is the key factor in the game's addictiveness and the reason why we are all putting so many hours into the game. Anyone else thought about this? --------------------------------------------- Disclaimer - I love the game - It isn't just loot pile randomness that makes the game fun - I realise it's alpha - I realise new game mechanics and deeper survival will be added.
  13. So you're saying the random loot piles have no effect on the game's addictiveness? I get what you are saying though. I think 'popular' wasn't the right word to use because obviously it's popular due to the vast fandom for the zombie genre. The zombie genre lures people in and the 'gambling' aspect keeps people playing.

    NYC 7 hackers

Hello I was also on the server when this happened. [soB] are completely in the right. Basically when you join a server with an older version of DayZ than the server is running you have no sound and a faint message telling you. Zombies will not see you but you can still PvP as players will be able to see you. Any loot you get will not be saved and when you rejoin or join another server you will be back where you last disconnected on a server running the same version as you. Even if you die it will not be saved. So in this state you can only grief legitimate players and can't even save any loot. Also when you are killed in this mode, it says [friendly fire].
  15. SideStrafe is interesting. He appears to RP quite hard and is a total noob really. He doesn't head straight for a city and do a looting circle. I don't think I've ever seen him loot firestations, pubs, etc. General rule of thumb is that within 30mins of spawning you should have some basic gear. Winchester, pistol, a few bits of food and equipment. SideStrafe usually spends 30mins pottering about at the coast near a barn or a lighthouse. He takes things very very slowly and never really seems to get anywhere. Despite this his vids are entertaining because of his commentary and unusual play style. I'd rather watch his vids than some clan doing a heli raid on NWA for the 100th time.

IF this was an actual game...

    - One off game purchase - NO DLC! Old school expansion packs are ok. Also: - Studio developed? - Studio run servers are a must but community based servers also. - Kickstarter if required.
  17. Played the 1.7.1.4 patch and had to revert back to 1.7.1.1 - Major FPS drops after about 5-10mins of play on all servers - Hatchet is just a bad idea. We don't need melee weapons at this stage and it ruins what the hatchet already was used for. - Zombies act very strangely and spot from a mile away even if I am prone. They will then run away from me before turning and running towards me. - Dodgy zombie spawns. I had 1 zombie spawn on me and then about 7 or 8 spawned in a shed next to me. I had to revert as the FPS drops I was getting made it unplayable. On 1.7.1.1 I don't get them.

    battleye script restriction #1

I am also having this problem.
  19. At least 1 morphine injector. Getting a random broken bone by a zombie sucks. Wouldn't be so bad if morphine spawned more.
  20. Hi, Today was the first time I managed to acquire a knife, hatchet and matches. I went and found a sheep and then tried to make a fireplace. It said I had made one but there wasn't anything there. I even found a very flat piece of land with a tent on it and it didn't work there either. I get a message that I had successfully made a fireplace but it never works. Is this a bug any ideas? Thanks.

    Fireplace not working?

I had wood... I stepped back but there wasn't anything there. I tried scrolling as I looked around but there definitely wasn't anything there. Might have been some sort of server bug?
  22. I have only had this mod for the past few days and I've really gotten into it. My current strategy is to head to Elektro and loot the first Firestation, then the supermarket, then the office and finally the last Firestation and head up the hill to the woods from here. I realise now after 2 days playing that Chern and Elektro are just deathmatch towns. The real challenge is heading into the wilderness to the untold riches up North. ---------------------------------------------------------- Today I spawn and make my way to the firestation at Elektro. Someone has wired the stairs so I couldn't get up. At the supermarket I find a Makarov, some other bits but most importantly MATCHES! At the office I grabbed a Enfield plus a bunch of other stuff. The final firestation was empty! I headed into the hills and looked over Elektro for any survivors. I heard a vehicle and quickly went prone. A guy on a dirt bike flys by down the hill. He didn't see me and I watch with my binoculars as he heads off towards Chern. I have around 5K blood and only 1 can of coke and 1 can of beans. I decided to head north (I have a compass) in the hopes of some animals and a quiet town I can loot for some essentials. I find a tent and check it, empty. I kill and gut a sheep but unfortunately something was bugged and I couldn't make a fireplace to cook. It kept saying I had made one but nothing was there. I tried multiple times on flat surfaces and it didn't work! I work my way through the forest until I found a barn. It has around 7 zombies inside (bug?) but I decide I really need some food/drink and other bits. Who knows when I will next see any buildings. I take aim and end up killing about 10 zombies with my enfield. I take everything I can and move on. I find myself at Staroye. A zombie sees me and I lead him away into the woods to kill. My Enfield attracts a HUGE horde of zombies from the town and I run to the forest. I figure I can take them all out. I didn't realise how slow the Enfield fire and before I knew I had killed 20 and now had a broken bone. They killed and ate me. ----------------------------------------------------- This game is buggy as hell but it's still very fun. The shooting mechanics are horribly clunky and the zombies are too responsive in 1.7.1. I've had my run-ins with bandits and also been one myself. I killed a guy from the top of a firestation. I could barely make him out on another roof and I wanted to see if I could hit him with my enfield. I could. I have also had some friendly encounters. When I first spawned with no weapons, a guy with a mic came up behind me. He told me to follow him and he found me a Winchester. I said thanks and we went out separate ways. Another time I found a DMR and AK in a firestation. I called out if anyone wanted the AK and a guy said he did. I climbed to the top and saw him running across the field with zombies in tow. I then sniped them and he safely made it to the building. He told me of DMR mags elsewhere, I thanked him and left. ---------------------------------------------------------- Thoughts from a 2 day newbie: - Enfield sound radius is huge. Needs a fix. - Zombies should be 1.7.0 responsive (crawling 100% is boring) - Zombies need their running pattern fixed. - Zombies shouldn't be able to attack/see through walls. - Zombies shouldn't be able to open doors or glitch through them. - The shooting mechanics are very clunky. Same with AMRA2? - Starting with no equipment is fine. - SIDE CHAT HAS TO STAY!! - Inventory system is a bit fiddly - Bandits aren't as bad as people make out. Overall I think there needs to be a good balance between realism and playability. Side chat isn't realistic (radios?) but it enabled me to work together with other solo players. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the best mod I have ever played.
