A recent Harvard study determined that 95% of the player-base are mouth breathing douche bags. But I'm not sure how scientific it was so it's probably safe to say only 92% are...

So tents are in the latest experimental..anyone in there yet ?

I'm pretty excited. I will be hunting tents when they go live. Please store all of your good loot in them. :) -
So I've only been playing the game the past 2 nights, for a total of about 6 hours. I love it. I do have one gripe, however, and it is not with the game, or its mechanics, but with an apparent mindset of some of those playing. If you see me rummaging through an old house looking for supplies, and leaving me alone is not an option for you, that's fine. But don't VOIP me to drop my axe, put my hands up, and turn around slowly. Just shoot me, srsly. I am not 'dynamic content'. I am not a fly placed here for you to pull the wings off of. i am not going to pause my evening of gaming in order to provide you with role-playing entertainment. This may seem like a dick move on my part but, really, who wants to spend their night being 'virtually' mugged for some random internet stranger's enjoyment? Not I. I'll go ahead and re-spawn, you can loot my corpse. Thanks.

Great info. Thanks!

Indeed. I was in a fire station last night that had two in the same room.

Maybe my server list just isn't the same as others, but the average population of the servers I see/join is right around 6-10 people. Spread out over 200+ square Km... That said, I ran to the airfield west of Grishino last night and got lots of great gear. Particularly a 35-slot backpack, an 8-slot tactical shirt, a 12-slot tactical vest, and two 10-slot ammo boxes. :beans:

^ What he said. Two of my first three hours with this game were spent stuck in a basement. luckily I hadn't had anything to eat or drink so I starved. That said, I had to come here to find out that that was my only option. I now always log-off outside and have not had a repeat.

Thank you form sharing some examples. I'm not sold, but I can see how a role-player would make do.

I keep hearing about "help" being offered when being held up. What help? I'm as new to this game as can be and i haven't needed any help, at all. An hour of looting and I'm fully equipped. Information? Alt-tab and the dayz wiki has all the info I need. I have a map on my cell phone... Food and drink is so plentiful I don't even store them i just eat/drink as i come upon it. Broken leg? Unless it happens right as i re spawn, it is no issue as I always have rags, and sticks. Ammo? I'm overflowing with ammo.. So, what help does a geared player that you've just stuck a gun at actually need? And what information do you have that is so valuable that you need to stick a gun in someones face in order to "share" it?

Three things that completely ruin the DayZ experience...
Solreal replied to Daricles's topic in New Player Discussion
If it wasn't for the fear of being KOS'd, there wouldn't be any fear/challenge in this game. Zombies are not a challenge. An axe is all you need to kill every zombie in-game. I have zero fear of a zombie encounter, absolutely zero. But when I see another player my heart races. That's good stuff. And I wouldn't want it any other way. -

It seems to me that safely acquiring life-saving valuables is the name of the post-apoc video game. Other than scavenging, KOS'n is the most cautiously tactical and/or intelligently strategic way to acquire the valuables you need. Anything else places you in extreme, unnecessary danger. -
"Hey, i have a sawed-off shotgun aimed at your head, don't move a finger. Why? Cause I'm lonely and need a stranger on the internet to talk to and I also want to give you an unsolicited can of tuna that you could have found by looting any of the thousands of buildings in game! What's that, you were already looting buildings when i interrupted you with a shotty to the back of your head? Oh, I see, valid point. But i need this interaction, i need this! So I'm going to just forcibly "help" you at gunpoint; whether you like it, need it or want it..." Seems legit.

Thanks!

Conversation. I think it's called "player interaction" around here.
-
Did you really cut half of my post off so as to alter its context? So lame.
-
i didn't read your whole post cause you were wrong in the very first sentence: "Ehem... You are stating that rather than coming up behind you when we are in your area we should just shoot you." I never said don't approach me. I said if your intent is to rob me, then "just shoot me". Feel free to re-read the OP ( and every other post I've written in this thread)
-
holy hypothetical nonsense batman.. the guy chased me into a building, when i never even saw him, cause he was "protecting himself"? Sure dude. I'll be the dick. and wear it like a friggin medal.
-
If this is how the game is, then what is all this "player interaction" that keeps being lobbed at me? Seems like player interaction is simply allowing yourself to be taken advantage of. Or hoping that you wont. In a post-apoc world like that, being a loner and KOS'n seems like the normal safety progression.
-
True, the guy could have said, "Hey, I'm terribly afraid of you. The way you never saw me and ran into that building with that long-range axe. It scarred me so instead of continuing on my way I chased after you with my M4 pulled....btw, can you empty all of your gear, it's really scary gear." He didn't convey any intent other than to rob me. Which, as i have stated repeatedly, is not something i will be taking part in. He can loot my corpse.
-
That is exactly what I am going to avoid. But apparently that makes me a dick for not being "interactive"...
-
Try and talk to me? " Put your hands up and drop all your gear " That isn't talking to me, that is virtually mugging me... for their entertainment. And like i said, it wont happen. And I'm starting to figure out that it isn't me that is frustrated with the way this is playing out, but the person that wants so badly to mug someone.
-
I'm starting to think that "getting mugged" is the only form of "player interaction" in this game.... So i am fine hanging out and hunting with others. I'm fine with hunting zombies with others. I'm fine with scavenging and chatting over VOIP with others. But because I prefer to get shot instead of mugged, this game isn't for me cause i don't like "player interaction". lmao.
-
Not sure what you're referring to. i have not once said i want to be shot on-sight, i said don't come up behind me and tell me to put my arms up. Let me try to summarize "Don't try to mug me, just shoot me in the back or i will turn around with a gun and shoot you in the face. I will not empty my bag for your entertainment or so you can feel like you had some super awesome role-playing experience at my expense.
-
No, I'd rather play this. You make that statement as if I don't have a choice what happens in-game with regard to muggings, so I should just move on to avoid any unwanted frustration, thanks so much for your concern. But the thing is, I do have a choice: If I'm 'told, asked, or directed' by another person to drop my gear, I'll simply point a gun at them and force the situation. Being mugged in a game is not something I will be taking part of. Being shot and then having my corpse looted? Sure, sign me up! Also, why does 'not wanting to be mugged' = no player interaction whatsoever? It doesn't, yet that has been implied twice in this thread. The same peep that came up behind me and told me to put my arms up could have said, "Hi, I'm right behind you just chilling and I'm friendly. Would you like to go for a walk along the beach and look for canned tuna with me...?" That would elicit a different response from me. One that would not have included a forum post.
