sneak in from the north and go straight into one of the bigger tents on the end. drop your rifle there and pull out your hatchet. kill whatever zombies have chased you into the tent and go loot the tent line. pick up your gun again on the way out if you haven't picked up a replacement. also you should refrain from picking up any gun you find until you have checked out all the tents, because you really want to be using the hatchet while you are still looting.

so i'm moseying up to a deer stand, and BOOM!! gunshot really nearby, like right on top of me. made my heart skip a beat. sounded like an m14 or DMR. i break into a sprint immediately running through the tree that is less than a meter away to my right, then break left through another tree. i continue evasion tactics, sprinting, zig-zagging through cover, waiting for the follow-up shots. i begin to think about what just happened, that guy was SOOOO close, how did he miss me? i didn't see him at all, because i went into super-jackrabbit mode immediately rather than turn around and look and get a bullet to the face for my trouble. maybe he didn't see me till the last second either and just fired off a panic shot? in any case my pulse was racing and i felt lucky to escape such a deadly situation. i've moved far enough now through enough cover that i'm pretty sure i've made a clean break. i begin to consider whether i should circle around and try to find this guy and get the drop on him. there are a few other deer stands in the area, and he might be looking to clear them out. if so, i can probably get him. i mentally calculate where i would be if i was him, how long he was likely to have stayed at the first deer stand after missing me, the next-nearest deer stand, and the one after that. i start to move through the forest, carefully watching, pulling up the scope on my own DMR to scout ahead, when i notice... DMR ammo 19. /facepalm. so embarassing. nearly gave myself a heart attack.

L85. another set of eyes on thermal is always good. you have m9sd for zombies, otherwise sd m4 is best. if you are actually planning on using it to kill players, the m14 is the best gun for close/medium range fighting. i would stick with the L85 because im planning on doing my shooting with the as50.

thermal is broken, i don't see how it's even an argument. daytime, nighttime, it doesn't matter, it just makes spotting people SO much easier. i wouldnt mind at all if it was removed.

i also like the pdw. before the pistol nerf i considered all 9mm pistols to be garbage aside from the m9sd, but now that headshots matter again i have found that the ammunition variety that the pdw accepts is really fantastic. you always have a deep magazine, and there is a full auto option for those few cases where you have to engage multiple zeds in the open and just want to drop them quickly with torso shots. the downside to the pdw is the awful, awful sight picture. it really sucks. the m9sd is really the only other pistol that is comparable, but as you said, ammo is a problem for it. if i have a reasonable amount of ammunition, then i'll go m9sd all day, just to not alert players that i am around. realistically, however, it's rare to have enough m9sd ammo. i just wish you could keep your hatchet as a secondary weapon instead of a pistol.

m14 all day, not even close. common ammo, better optics.

L85, no question. thermal is broken. anything farther away than 200m you should be using the as50 anyway.

i just died 10 mins ago to hacker, tped to me and shot me with as50. lost my dmr, ghillie, coyote, gps, etc. last time i died was to hacker also. lost a lot of great gear then, too. the time before that, hacker. didn't have much stuff that time, but still annoying. you guys yelling at this guy for making this topic can piss off. really. i don't care if there HAVE been 8000 threads about it, we need 8001. the kind of rampant cheating going on in dayz right now is absolutely unacceptable. there needs to ALWAYS be a "hackers ruining game" thread or three on the front page of gd. i know, rocket doesn't control anti-cheat, but with the money that is being made from arma2 sales due to dayz BI can do something to close all the gaping holes in their game, or battleye can pay more attention. this game is fantastic, and i don't mind dying when i earn it, it's just stupid to die randomly because some kid found a script on a website that gives him godmode. there has to be more that bi/battleye could be doing about this.

yeah, i was in a bush with a ghillie. dude teled to me and shot me. then went and killed my friend. so sad that nobody seems to be able to really do anything about it. (hacking, that is.) edited for clarity.

my friend and i just got killed by a hacker on your server around 1245-50ish cst, he teleported to me and bam in the face with as50. he then teled to my friend who was a good distance away (500meter-ish) and seconds later bam dead. he was going by the name of john gameson in game. i know there's not much you can do, but just letting you know about a hacker on your server. he's still on your server right now as i post this. (edit) also, you should include the port for your ts.

shooting up folks in elektro, then the guys got mad and turned on a hack and teleported to me. i actually killed him (half a mag of dmr and he passed out, 2 mags of prenerf 1911 to the head and he FINALLY died). killed another guy then got teleported into water and killed. was so angry. respawned and literally 5 minutes after i started some guy tries to hunt me down in a farm complex between cherno and elektro. i snuck up behind him with a hatchet (the only item i had) and POW, dmr, coyote pack, lots of tools. so, my worst death led immediately to my best kill. was so pissed when the hacker killed me, and so elated when i got hatchet kill on a geared-out sniper when i had nothing.

brown house did for me the other day, somehow clipped the doorway coming in. 6000 blood loss, broken leg, unconscious with zeds eating me. fun times. at least i was relatively near the coast so i could get to my body fast enough to recover my stuff.

because if i shot you 10 times in the chest with a 9mm pistol you wouldnt die? right? thats realistic. if i gave you both barrels of 12-gauge slugs in the chest, it's ok, right? REALISTIC. empty an ENTIRE MAGAZINE of m1911 .45 acp into you... not dead. SUPER REALISTIC! irl firearms are a lot more balanced than you seem to think, as in, pretty much every gun is super-deadly if you are shot with it. there are no pistols in this game of a smaller caliber than 9mm. there are no rifles less powerful than 5.56mm. if anything, weapons need buffs across the board if you are going for "realism"

if shit like this gets banned in your country, then you have bigger problems than video games. you need to get active in the political process to defend your right to simulated barbed-wire hatchet arenas. failing that, you need to overthrow your government. i'm sure the squad tactics tha you have learned in dayz will help you in the revolution. (edit) and btw, WHY would you think he's stupid for disarming himself? he didn't have any exotic gear. he looked like a fairly fresh spawn with a 1911 and an m16 that he picked up in a fire station. so what if he died? the bus ride with these guys' commentary is worth respawning by itself. if he had an m107 and ghillie and nvg and all the rest he probably woudla blown up the bus, which also would have been a good video.

except that your 1911 cant put anyone on their ass anymore, even if you empty a full mag into them. in order to equip hatchet for fighting you have to drop your primary. i'd rather be able to swap to it instead of a pistol, if i so choose. (edit) and who the hell shoots players with a pistol unless they don't have a primary weapon? your secondary weapon slot is for zombie killing.

akm is full/semi auto and can be zeroed.

the pvp implications are stupid, too. empty a .45 revolver into somone's chest and they can run away?

it used to be one of the best in the game, it's still ok but that nerf really hurt. it used to be a decision whether to drop it for an akm, not anymore.
