You want a game that's realistic? Then make it realistic. Boom, bang, your eyes now adjust to lighting. What does this mean? It means at night, you can see more than nothing now. You can see outlines and shapes and everything, just not color and stuff further away. So is it only night? Silly, that would just nerf the game. When you are in a well lit area and enter a not so well lit area, you can't see shit. Wait a little and let your eyes adjust so you can see again. Are you in the darkness and someone tosses something bright your way? It might as well be a flashbang because now you can only see whatever is making that light. Are you in a dark area and you go outside? Well, you better take cover because now the sun's so bright that you can barely see without squinting, lowering your ability to see. Are you sitting next to a flare? Don't look at it for too long or you will only be able to see things illuminated by the light of it. So is that it? Nah. Let's say you and your buddies are sitting around a campfire roasting some lampchop. The trees right next to you are casting shadows that are totally opaque. A survivor is pushing his back against that tree, two feet from you and you don't even know it. You shouldn't have made that fire so bright, because you can't see anything that's not just about as bright now. That survivor pops out from behind those trees and puts a bullet in each of your buddies heads before you even realize where the shots are coming from, and he's right behind you. Sounds good, anything else? Yeah, no one wants to play at night, there's no use right now and it's too dark. But you could avoid the glaring eyes of snipers, right? Right. So if you could see better at night, then it's not going to be much different, right? Wrong. Just like a real night time through a human's eyes, even when your eyes have adjusted to the darkness, you can't see that far. Millions of years of evolution probably helps you see a little further than if you had a lantern making a dome of light around you. So then, won't this render flashlights, flares, and chemlights useless? No. What's a common problem with being in the darkness? You can see the walls of the room you are in but you can't see everything clearly. Without that flashlight or chemlight, you'll have a tough time searching for loot, unless you enjoy feeling around the floors of every building you enter. Add this to the game, devs. It'll be greatly appreciated and thanks for reading!

I got a fairly simple idea. I've already used the search and I did not find many threads that were closely related to this idea. Everyone know's that Jerry cans are made of plastic and are always filled with gas when you find them. I'm thinking that, if you shoot the Jerry cans, they explode in a small radius. I'm not calling for something the size of the satchel charges, no, I just want some quick way to cause fun destruction. Also, maybe add a small fire in the radius of the explosion, since it is gas. The fire should also do some damage to players and zombies. This will allow people with low ammo a way to survive, if only if they could find a Jerry can, and you could carry and drop a Jerry can in places to blow them up later. It should take multiple shots (gun varies the shots required to ignite a Jerry can) so a person with a makarov can't just go around blowing up Elektro with an explosion with every bullet. Of course, empty Jerry cans would just not create any explosion, but there's no way to know when you are being chased by zombies except to shoot it a few times Or, don't follow my ideas at all but still add exploding Jerry cans. PLEEEAAASE. THINK OF ALL THE FUN WE COULD BE HAVING

I've lost too many guns and backpacks by trying to change my options in this game. The respawn key on the Esc. menu should bring up a prompt and confirm that you want to suicide before actually letting you drop dead. It wouls save me so much time running back to my body. Just today, I logged into a server with bad FPS so I tried to turn down my graphics to see if it would help. I lost my Alice, L85A2, MP5SD6, and NV goggles. Not happy.

By now, its obvious that it's pretty useless. It should be your own logic to determine if the player in question is trustworthy or not. Things to consider is what they are equipping, what they are wearing, how they talk or move, not because your heart says they are a murderer. Players are killed long before they could approach and hear their heartbeat's feelings about a bandit. Also, it makes traveling with other players very annoying. You constantly hear heartbeats like you don't trust the guy you have been killing survivors with for the last few hours. It was a nice feature, but as you said, Rocket, it was purely experimental and I think it's time to decide that the heart beats actually makes less player interaction rather than more. It's also generally not used, because I could kill a ton of people in one life and be an angel in the next. It does not recreate that situation in that movie, but rather does the opposite and lets the player shoot the other player without even saying a word before hand.

Cars now run on oil, alcohol, and liquid explosives. Because Russia.

I found one at the first and only heli crash site ive been to so far. Unfortunately, it's the night vision variant and its completely useless during the day, unless I'm sniping.

Good idea! if we find axes and stuff left on tree stumps, we should be able to take them. However, that would mean changing the model for the tree stumps to sperate the axe and the stump, so the axe may disappear after being taken. This would result in having to change the map of Chernarus, which has already been included with Arma II.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
NguyenSanity replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES There's no use in shooting someone with just a flashlight and a band-aid, and it really makes the game hardcore and instinctive for new players. -
Hatchet can no longer be in tool slot
NguyenSanity replied to BlessedHeretic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Axe for melee, hatchet for wood. Do it. Doo it. I mean, just take the crrent model for the hatchet and return it back to its function while getting a new model for the axe and giving it the hatchet's current function. Or let us right click it and select use as weapon or something. -
Rocket, Review your own game.
NguyenSanity replied to myzsarc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Get used to it. Spawn, move and survive. There would be no use of camping new survivors without even beans on them, even if I had the intention of killing people, I would at least kill them for supplies and not just a band-aid. I haven't gotten shot at the coast once today, and I met up with at least 5 survivors on the coast, most of whom had guns while I didn't. Not one of them shot me. One even gave me a blood transfusion after a nasty zed contact. There's really no fun in killing someone without anything to lose, too. The point is to survive, and when you start without any means of defense, you revert to your only option, which is surviving and sneaking, which are key instincts of this mod. -
How to find out where you are without map?
NguyenSanity replied to despair (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Use your real world skills. Even the maps in game don't show your position, its a map, as simple as that. If u want to find out where you are, use landmarks and inference. Did you run up the field from Elektro? You are probably north of there somewhere. Is that a powerline to your left? okay, not even better. How far are you from these landmarks? What type of terrain are u on? Then, use a external map to zero on your own position. Yesterday, after getting a town of zeds to aggro me in the dead of night while all alone, I ran around in a circle by justing running straight at every fork in the road or just winging it. After I tried to shoot the zombies (and ended up throwing chemlights at them first), my leg was broken and I was in shock and I was lost. What then? I used the night sky to see the silhouette of a tower on a hill. I was also next to some fences and I was sitting on a paved road. After a while of guessing, I surely found my position, even after sprinting in the dark with nothing but a G17 flashlight beaming all over the place. Survival and skills is the name of the game. Use your surroundings to find out where you are. -
So wait, let me get this right. Before, you could carry a primary, pistol, and a hatchet in your tools. But as soon as you could use the hatchet to kill zombies, you may no longer carry your primary with the hatchet? What if I need to but down wood for fires? do I have to go look for wood piles now? Or can I keep the hatchet in my tools slots as long as I don't bust a zed with it?

That's what's up with DayZ. Shit happens. Cope with it. I had my flashlight broken until the 1.7.1.2 update. I logged in with 2 bloodpacks, an AK74 Kobra with full ammo, G17 and a whole bunch of goodies, just to get shot as soon as I spawned. And you know what I did? I ran around the cost annoying people for fun, finally found someone to bum with, and I'm starting out fresh again.

Friendlies only - Anti Bandit group + TeamSpeak3 + Website. (Closed For Now)
NguyenSanity replied to CrissCrow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd love to join. I'm tired of the hostile airfields and fearing for my life every time I hear gunshots. IGN: NguyenSanity Steam Username: neil_222 I do not have a single murder on my record, I was huting a bandit today in Elektro with a guy I just met. I watched the chat and heard gunshots as I saw two names declared dead. I decided that the gunshots were at just the right intervals to have killed them (three shots, one died, another three shots, another survivor died). This guy and I heard it come from the supermarket and I camped out the door while my buddy snuck around and shot him. He was carrying almost every survivor tool. Also, it brings me happiness to find a bunch of dead bodies carrying binoculars and sniper rifles within a city. Together, we can rid Charnarus of the evil bandits and make it at least a little safer for humanity here. -
Last night, while playing, me and a buddy were raiding the international airfield. we accidentally fired a shot and the entire airport was on our back. We decided we would sprint into a bunker because we had thought that zeds would have to walk indoors. Unfortunately, they did not slow down their pace at all and continued to chase us. I ran into the firehouse and aborted the mission because dying would mean having to sprint back up there. We were also basically out of ammo by that point. We logged back on and he turns on his flashlight. I attempt to do the same, but nothing happens. I was holding a G17 and so was he. I pressed F and switched to a green chemlight and tried to illuminate the darkness. It works, but when I picked it up, everything went dark again for some reason. I tried pressing F to select my G1 and pressing L I tried switching guns and pressing L I tried putting the G17 in my bag and reequipping it, still no luck. I have tried joining multiple servers since last night and I still can't turn on my flashlight.

Lol i tried to join a server and see if i could drop my g17 and pick it back up and see if it worked. As soon as I joined i got shot in the head. We should have some type of protection when we just join the server

Food and drinks impossible to find since 1.7.1.1
NguyenSanity replied to Jorden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This game is taunting me. I'm killing zombies and risking my life for just a can of food and I can't use noobs for food. -
As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
NguyenSanity replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
The mod is bugged right now. Loot spawns are bugged so it is difficult (read impossible) to find food and drinks in buildings or anywhere that's not on a zed. weapons will be tough to find, too. I think pistols, especially low caliber, should be tons times more common. I haven't seen a single pistol when I was playing yesterday. I did find some ammo for my G17, though. -
Food and drinks impossible to find since 1.7.1.1
NguyenSanity replied to Jorden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been running from town to town in search of just food and I haven't even found a can of beans. I'm not a murderer but those noobs better watch out for their beans, I'm getting kind of desperate. -
I agree, the darkness just seems broken now. It's really hard to play at night even with a G17 and shining that everywhere.
-
Broken bones and shock. That's definitely a silenced sniper bullet to the leg or something of the sort. Better luck in your next life. Avoid cities, that's where everyone with silenced weapons camp out.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
NguyenSanity replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. What I think should happen is breathing rate. When you are close to someone humane, your breathing is relaxed and steady. When you are close to someone inhumane, your breathing is a little faster and more frantic. Then, snipers should have controlled breathing rates so they can't tell and have a harder time picking their targets, unless they are an inhumane sniper. -
Thanks to the Dev Team and everyone working on this mod. You guys are really putting an effort into making this mod playable and enjoyable. Thanks for getting rid of the hackers who are ruining the gaming experience and for asking for what we want in the game and taking suggestions and running polls, it really helps to make this game what the players want and makes the players feel apart of the development, too. Keep it up and don't let the hackers discourage you. Everytime a bug is reported, it means that person is having problems but still wants to play and people out there are also having this problem. And when this mod goes vanilla in Arma 3, I can't wait to see how it will look and everything that could have been made specifically for this mod. Keep it up and keep improving!

Hi, I've been playing DayZ for a couple of days now and I've been having problems with my framerates. I don't know if its a problem on my side but after playing some time, my frame rates drop considerably. I know this game is still in alpha but this is an issue that makes it almost unplayable for me. I've had my frame rates drop to an estimated 5-10 while playing once. This usually happens if I stop playing and launch the game again and temporarily fixes itself when I reboot my computer. My computer Specs are: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40 GHz 2.39 GHz 4.00 GB RAM 32-bit (This is likely to change when I get more RAM) Nvidia 560 Ti Overclocked (but set to normal settings) It's a pretty powerful computer that runs BF3 with really good FPS but I can't manage to play ARMA and certainly can't play DayZ with the really low Framerates. I think after experiencing low framerates for DayZ, other games also suffer from low frame rates. This is the first time this has happened and only really happens if I play DayZ for an extended period of time or if I launch DayZ after closing it before. Is there a fix to this? Also, when my framerates are low, setting my video options in-game to very low does not do much help. Thanks! and I hope this issue gets resolved!

When you join a server, it should take you to a screen where you could see all the players in the server. On that screen, you can also select a role, but the only role should be "Survivor." Confirm on that screen before clicking OK that your friends are indeed in the server. Otherwise, you may be in different places but assume you are close. There are multiple lighthouses and cities and such in the game and pinpointing your location may be tough, so use a browser map and your surroundings to find yourself. Also, you want to meet up away from the coast. The coast is full of bandits and zombies, the north, the bandits are more scattered.
